Week 1 of the 2023 version of Brainstorm, the series where we choose a scripture at random, and write a sermon live, in person, and in real time.

The final week in this series, How It All Works, wherin we take a second look at what it means to fail or succeed.

Fear is built into the human experience. Fear of heights, fire, even of the dark help to keep us safe in an unsafe world. But does Fear have the final word? Should it? Or is there a path forward where Fear informs our experience, but is not the ultimate influence?

Week 2 of this series, in which our Family Life Pastor, Hunter Maerz, tells us about apples, heterozygosity, and not forcing things into a smaller timeframe. It takes as long as it takes.

There are no straight rivers. Oak trees drop thousands upon thousands of acorns for every one that grows up into a tree. These, and many other examples from nature, show us a picture of a God who is less concerned with efficiency and efficacy, and more concerned with the process.

This is a special one-off message, in which we talk through what it looks like to pursue faith, justice, comfort, and healing in the midst of difficult life circumstances. There are many questions, and few easy answers. But it is in the difficult times, when we feel broken and broken-hearted, that God is nearest to us.

The finale of our series Mountains and Seas and Gardens and Roads.

Week 9 of Mountains & Seas & Gardens & Roads. We're finishing up the gospel of Luke this week, putting a bow on our journey through the gospels. Next week will be a more experiential, wrap-up sort of week.

Part two of the gospel of Mark, which focuses on the image of dark and stormy seas as a way to get at the question, "How do we face suffering?"

We're continuing our journey through the gospels, starting on the gospel of Mark this week. The key image in Mark is of stormy, chaotic seas, and the key question addressed is, "How do we face suffering?" In Mark, Jesus models how to live in and deal with suffering and grief, while also remaining hopeful in the presence of God.

Week 3 of this series finds us finishing up the gospel of Matthew, asking the key question, "How do I face change?"

I (Joseph) was on vacation last week. :-) This is week 2 of our series called Party, wherein we are spending 5 weeks diving deeply into what is commonly called the Parable of the Prodigal Son, but could more accurately be called the Parable of the Dysfunctional Family. This week focuses on the Younger Son. Enjoy!

In this five-week series we will explore a parable about a dysfunctional family through the various perspectives and experiences of the key characters. We often live with the idea that the fullness of life we’re looking for is elsewhere but what if what we’re looking for is already here? What if the Party’s already started and you’ve already been invited?

Every person is created in the image of God. Is the image of God singular, or vast and multifaceted? If it’s true that every person is created in the image of God, why do we all have different perspectives? Why do we find ourselves coming to different conclusions about a particular issue? Maybe we do well to think of God as a mosaic. As we live into the fullness of who we were created to be, we each serve to reveal various aspects of God. And as we live in community, we collectively display a more full and tangible picture of the heart of God. In this series, we explore the nature of God, the nature of ourselves, and the nature of each other for the sake of reclaiming God’s intended reality and creating a better you and a better world.
