Adam is an open book, he was super open with us about his processes and desires as a business owner. He shares how anyone can start a business similar to that of his and start making large sums. It all starts with education, will and drive. By doing things like transitioning all gear over to electric, Adam has kept his costs down and now only works 3-4 days a fortnight and lives comfortably. He has the ability to work as much or as little as he wants and have a work life balance that works for him. Open Spaces Presentation | Behind the scenes of LIV Adelaide - Rowan Daymond
Our final speaker is Rowan Daymond, who takes us on a behind-the-scenes look at the incredibly successful LIV Golf tournament held in Adelaide, South Australia 2023. After developing a passion for golf at a young age, it wasn’t until Rowan fell into an apprenticeship at 16 years old that he found a passion for producing high-quality surfaces within the golf market. Having worked at smaller country clubs to some of the best-known in South Australia and the world, Rowan has spent 22 years taking satisfaction from seeing staff excel and develop their skills, and our members get the best from their golfing experiences. Rowan has a skillset that stretches from the finer details of turf maintenance, short/long term planning, setting and maintaining budgets, irrigation systems scheduling and installation, tournament preparation, stakeholder engagement, fleet management, and managing committee expectations all the while meeting the needs of his 32 staff. Open Spaces 2023 | The ins and outs of Allianz Stadium - Adam Lewis
Our third speaker at our Open Spaces event for 2023 was Adam Lewis who discusses the ins and outs of Allianz Stadium, the SCG, and his history being a pitch curator. The presentation was proudly sponsored by Rainbird. Adam Lewis has been working as Head Curator at the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust since November 2017, following the footsteps of the legendary Tom Parker. Adam is responsible for the SCG’s famous center wicket square and the Bulli soil that lies beneath and provides the pitches’ unique character. Prior to his role at the SCG, Adam had overseen Hurtsville Oval since 2001, preparing it for cricket, AFL, American Football, rugby league, athletics, and football. He was involved in wicket preparation at all levels of cricket, from grade cricket to Test matches. Hurtsville Oval has been voted the most outstanding ground in Sydney grade cricket numerous times under Adam’s management, including three seasons in a row from 2014-2016. Open Spaces 2023 | Telemetry and Data Collection - Greg Ingleton
During our Open Spaces Event, we had Greg Ingleton speak, who is a member of the Green Adelaide Board. Greg's presentation was on Telemetry and Data Collection and was sponsored by Wildeye. Greg started his career as a farmer and, after completing his environmental science degree, moved into the water industry. After 18 years in SA Water Greg jumped ship to Sydney Water where he works on integrated water cycle management, focusing on recycled water use. Greg is a Board member of the Green Adelaide Board and also has his own company, Cool by Nature. His main aim in all these positions is to practically demonstrate the benefits of water for liveability and productivity through a circular economy lens. Coupled with this is his passion to use smart technology to monitor and to educate which hopefully results in the ability to influence strategic investment and inform policy. We had a mountain of positive feedback from Greg's presentation with it being engaging, and unique and how it changed the way people think about water usage in our community. Open Spaces 2023 | Biodiversity in Urban Spaces - Monina Gilbey
Our first speaker at our Open Spaces event was Monina Gilbey who is a garden designer, and educator as well as the Biodiversity Manager at Glenelg Golf Club. In her presentation Monina went over the importance of biodiversity in urban areas, and golf courses, current conservation projects and initiatives that are being undertaken at the golf course, water management practices, and much much more. Monina is passionate about Adelaide’s local flora and fauna and the contribution that golf courses make to urban biodiversity. Working with the Glenelg Golf team, Monina, a relative newcomer to golf, has helped to raise the national environmental profile of the club and has won multiple awards. In 2022, Monina was co-winner of the Claude Crockford Environment and Sustainability Award – Monina is the second woman to win the award in 24 years. Monina was instrumental in the club becoming a finalist in the biodiversity category of the 2023 National Banksia Sustainability Awards. .......................................................................................................... Phil Scardingo is the son of an Italian migrant to South Australia. He was educated as a teacher but after working in the family business early on decided he loved it and hasn't left.
