EP31 | Prophecy or Prop: How Magicians Replicate Modern "Miracles"
Is it a miracle from God, a manifestation of the demonic, or just a clever trick? In this deep-dive interview, professional magician and mentalist Terry Holley pulls back the curtain on the "signs and wonders" appearing in modern movements like the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). From gold dust and "glory clouds" at Bethel to the secrets of "words of knowledge," Terry explains how mentalism and cold reading can perfectly replicate what many claim to be supernatural. We also tackle the tough theological questions: Did Pharaoh’s magicians actually perform miracles? Can Satan control the weather? And why do so many Christians give the enemy more credit than the Bible does?If you’ve ever wondered if what you’re seeing on stage is real or just "extrasensory deception," this episode is for you. IN THIS EPISODE:Mentalism vs. Prophecy: How "Question & Answer" routines mimic prophetic words. The "Glory Cloud" Demystified: Comparing modern church manifestations to Las Vegas illusions.Theology of the Miraculous: Why creating life (snakes and blood) is a boundary only God crosses.Occam’s Razor & The Supernatural: Understanding the 4 natural forces before jumping to "miracle" conclusions.Demons & Objects: The logic (and hilarity) of "demon-possessed" chocolate chip cookies. Let us know in the comments.TWO CORRECTIONS SUBMITTED BY TERRY HOLLEY:1. David Hoy's "Hurling the Headlines" is not a book, but it is a chapter found in his booklet, "The Bold and Subtle Miracles of Dr. Faust."2. I accidentally stated that I sent predictions to David Hoy. I should have stated that I sent them to Gary North. Hoy passed in 1981. EP30 | Signs, Wonders, or Sleight of Hand? A Magician's View of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)
Is it a miracle, or just a really good trick? In this revealing interview, 55-year veteran magician Terry Holley pulls back the curtain on the "supernatural" claims of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR).While many believers are amazed by "words of knowledge" and "miraculous" powers, Terry reveals how professional mentalism, data mining, and theatrical illusions can replicate these exact experiences. We explore the historical deception of figures like William Branham and Paul Cain, and the danger of building theology on anecdotal stories that crumble under investigation. EP29 | Francis Chan’s Public Apology: Does It Go Far Enough? | With Doug Geivett
On March 6, 2026, Francis Chan released a public apology titled "Tremble at His Words, Be Careful with Your Own." In it, he addresses his associations with leaders in the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), including Mike Bickle and IHOPKC. But does this apology truly address the root of the problem, or does it sidestep the real issues and dangers? In this special audio-only episode of the podcast, Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett (joining from the Florida Everglades!) break down Chan’s letter and the accompanying statement from his network elders. We dive deep into:The "Integrity" Gap: Was Mike Bickle a man of integrity who "fell," or was the foundation flawed from the start?"Fooled Hundreds of Times": Analyzing Chan’s admission of a lack of discernment and what that means for his role as a globally influential leader. The Elder’s Defense: Why claiming "refutation" of NAR accusations is factually incorrect and misleading to the church. The Prophetic Movement: Why a focus on character scandals ignores the deeper crisis of fallible prophecy and theological error.A Call to Action: Will Chan ever give us the biblical criteria for evaluating prophets?Resources Mentioned:-Francis Chan’s Letter: Tremble at His Words, Be Careful with Your Own (Crazy Love Ministries)https://www.crazylove.org/articles/tremble-at-his-words-be-careful-with-your-own -Holly’s Blog: hollypivec.com -The Implosion of IHOPKC: https://www.hollypivec.com/blog/implosionofihopkc -Books by Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett: Counterfeit Kingdom, God's Super-Apostles, and more.https://www.amazon.com/s?k=holly+pivec+and+doug+geivett&crid=2B4DQ2AUNRY85&sprefix=holly+pivec+and+doug+geivett%2Caps%2C216&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 Timestamps: 00:00 – Introduction & Background on Francis Chan04:46 – Framing the Apology: "Those who no longer walk in integrity"15:10 – The avoidance of addressing "false teaching" in the apology21:47 – The stunning admission of being "fooled hundreds of times"35:34 – Analyzing the Elders’ Statement52:40 – Can a "legitimate" prophet be fallible?1:10:00 – Unity vs. Truth: Final thoughts and closing wisdomStay Connected: If you found this analysis helpful, please Like and Subscribe to stay updated on our latest critiques and theological discussions.#FrancisChan #NAR #MikeBickle #IHOPKC #Discernment #Theology #NewApostolicReformation #HoldFast #HollyPivec #DougGeivett

EP 28 | NAR and the AG: Why Assemblies of God Pastors Must Draw a Line in the Sand (Part 2)
The ongoing collision with NAR has forced a moment of truth for the Assemblies of God, requiring a clear and final decision on whether it will protect its Pentecostal roots or succumb to apostolic infiltrators.* See a note of correction and clarification from Aaron Mapes below.*In this deep-dive interview, an AG pastor pulls back the curtain on how "Latter Rain" doctrines and modern NAR theology are covertly reshaping Pentecostal churches—and why the stakes for the AG have never been higher. From the controversial "offices" of modern-day apostles and prophets to the devastating impact of "fallible prophecy," Pastor Aaron Mapes and I explore why AG leaders must draw a line in the sand. We discuss the historical link between the 1940s Latter Rain movement and Jim Jones, the theological danger of the "always God’s will to heal" doctrine, and why Pastor Aaron has chosen not to use Bethel Music to protect his congregation. If you’ve ever wondered why your favorite worship song, or a "prophetic word" you've heard, feels like it’s leading to a different gospel, this conversation is for you. Key Topics Discussed:The historical condemnation of "Latter Rain" doctrines by the AG in 1949.Why Jim Jones is a sobering warning for modern charismatic movements. The "fallible prophecy" trap: Can a true prophet be wrong? Why Bethel’s theology is creating a "wrecking yard" of deconstructed faith. The practical reasons why Pastor Aaron has banned Bethel Music in his AG church (and other AG churches should do the same)How to identify "bad fruit" in a movement before it leads to spiritual and sexual abuse.Timestamps:0:00 – Introduction: NAR and the AG04:15 – The 1940s Latter Rain Movement & Jim Jones12:30 – Why the AG Issued New Position Papers on Apostles & Prophets18:45 – The Dangers of "Fallible Prophecy" (Deuteronomy 18)25:10 – Shipwrecked Faith: When "God’s Will to Heal" Fails33:20 – Why We Stopped Singing Bethel Music in Our Church41:15 – The "Cover-Up Culture" and Biblical Discernment50:40 – Truth Over Relationship: How to Talk to People in the AG About NAR58:20 – Final Thoughts: A Bigger Vision for the GospelResources Mentioned:Counterfeit Kingdom by Holly Pivec & Doug Geivett - https://a.co/d/0hncwff4God’s Super-Apostles by Doug Geivett and Holly Pivec- https://a.co/d/0aURrk3lA/G Pastors Concerned about NAR (New Apostolic Reformation) Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1299878327294092/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBTAre you seeing NAR influence in your local Pentecostal or other type of church?#AssembliesOfGod #NAR #BethelChurch #ChristianDiscernment #NewApostolicReformation #TheologyMatters #Pentecostal #biblicaltruth A Correction and Note of Clarification from Aaron Mapes:"Thanks, Holly! It was a pleasure to join you for this podcast! I need to make a public correction. In the interview, I stated Jim Jones was an A/G (Assemblies of God) minister instead of Independent Assemblies of God International minister. Very similar in history, relationship and doctrine, but separate organizations with cooperative ties and relationships as well as a shared name and some shared roots, as was the case with many early pentecostal churches and movements as they were emerging. EP 27 | NAR and the AG: The NAR Incursion into the Assemblies of God (Part 1)
Is the New Apostolic Reformation covertly reshaping your church? Join me and 5th-generation Assemblies of God pastor Aaron Mapes for a deep dive into the "smuggling" of NAR doctrine into classical Pentecostalism. While the boundaries between NAR and Pentecostalism have become increasingly blurred, the differences are critical for those concerned about the future of the Assemblies of God. In this episode, we expose how specific terminology—like the "five-fold ministry"—is being used as a gateway to introduce NAR "apostles" and "prophets" into local Assemblies of God churches. Pastor Aaron shares his personal journey of watching a thriving church of 300 dwindle to 80 after a NAR takeover and discusses the high-profile departures of flagship churches from the AG, like James River and Bethel Redding. In this video, you will learn:The vital distinctions between Pentecostalism, charismatic belief, and NAR.Why "five-fold ministry" language is often a red flag for aberrant teaching. The truth behind the "Show Me the Toes" (alleged) miracle and the danger of deceptive "revival" narratives. How the Assemblies of God’s new 2025 position papers address these encroachments.TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Intro: The Encroachment of NAR into the AG2:15 - Aaron Mapes’ Story: A 5th-Generation Heritage5:30 - Pentecostal vs. NAR: Clearing the Confusion9:45 - The "Second Act of Grace" and Initial Physical Evidence14:10 - How NAR Emerged Out of Independent Charismatic Churches17:40 - The "Seven Mountain Mandate" vs. Traditional Eschatology21:30 - Personal Fallout: When a NAR Takeover Splits a Church28:15 - "Smuggling" Doctrine: The Five-Fold Ministry Language35:50 - Case Study: James River Church and the "Toes" Controversy42:10 - The 2025 AG Position Papers: Do They Go Far Enough? EP 26 | Dangers of "Hearing God's Voice" on the Mission Field: with Aaron and Chelsea Hunter (Pt. 2)
Is modern missions work inadvertently hindering the gospel? In Part 2 of our deep dive, former Beyond missionaries Aaron and Chelsea—who were accused by the organization's leadership of being "unteachable"—share their firsthand experiences with the "Church Planting Movement" (CPM) strategy and the controversial "Insider Movements" that allow for religious syncretism. We discuss how the pressure to "hear from God" and meet artificial deadlines, like the 2025 goal, is resulting in unqualified leadership and the compromise of sound Christian doctrine. If you’re a missionary, a church supporter, or interested in the future of global evangelism, this conversation is a must-watch.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Syncretism in Missions: Why some organizations allow "converts" to continue to worship in mosques or give gifts to idolsLack of Transparency: Why missionaries are being instructed to hide syncretistic practices from their sending churches and financial supportersThe Problem with Speed: How fast-tracking missions efforts results in unqualified missionaries on the fieldSubjective Leadings: How some missionary training models have integrated a version of Discovery Bible Studies that shift the focus from the objective meaning of the biblical text to subjective internal impressions RESOURCES MENTIONED:Nine Marks: https://www.9marks.org/ (Resources on biblical missions)#Missions #ChurchPlanting #Theology #Christianity #Discernment #Beyond #YWAM #Evangelism #BibleStudy #Apologetics

We Left the Mission Field: The Reality of "Beyond" and the Theological Drift in Modern MissionsWhy would an ethusiastic, committed missionary couple walk away from their life’s work? In this deep-dive, two-part interview, Aaron and Chelsea Hunter share their jarring experience with the missions organization "Beyond." They reveal how the pressures to "hear God's voice" and document numerical growth have led to a "Jesus Hermeneutic" that replaces sound doctrine with subjective impressions, and why they believe these "Church Planting Movements" are hindering the gospel and world missions.Watch to discover:The perceived tension between "theological purity" vs. "reaching the nations."A first-hand account of when "Discovery Bible Studies" bypass God's objective Word in Scripture. The dangers of "Listening Prayer" and New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) influence on the mission field.Advice for churches and aspiring missionaries on how to select sound missions organizations to partner with. EP 23 | Is "Listening Prayer" Biblical? How "Listening Prayer Retreats" Hinder Spiritual Growth
Is "listening prayer" the key to intimacy with God, as many Christian teachers claim? In this deep-dive conversation, we discuss a particular view of prayer as "two-way communication" and explore how seeking audible voices or mystical promptings can be a distraction from true spiritual growth. If you’ve ever felt stuck waiting to "hear from God" or worried that you’re missing God's specific instructions for your life, this episode is for you.In this video, we explore a more robust, biblical framework for intimacy with God. The topics we address include:True "Conversation" with God: How God communicates through a mind transformed by Scripture.Wisdom Over Formulas: Why God wants you to grow into an "empowered agent" rather than a puppet waiting for instructions. The Dallas Willard Connection: A personal look at Willard’s approach to "hearing God."The Obedience Key: Why acting on what you already know is the surest path to intimacy with God.RESOURCES MENTIONEDHearing God by Dallas Willard - https://www.amazon.com/Hearing-God-Developing-Conversational-Relationship/dp/1514011573Have you ever felt pressured to "hear a voice" in your prayer life? EP 22 | Is the Pressure to "Hear God's Voice" Preventing You from Actually Knowing Him?: An Interview with Doug Geivett (Part 1)
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Doug Geivett, my co-author and long-time colleague, to discuss a very popular teaching in the church right now: “hearing God’s voice” outside of Scripture.Doug and I have co-authored four books on the New Apostolic Reformation. In this conversation, which is part of my larger series on "hearing God's voice," we address why the modern expectation of daily private messages from God has become so widespread and why it is spiritually risky. We respond to real pushback messages I have received, including claims that relying on Scripture to mediate God's voice means you only have a “relationship with a book.” We explain why that argument undermines both biblical authority and true intimacy with God. We also dig into what the Bible actually teaches about the Holy Spirit’s role in the believer’s life, what “being led by the Spirit” means, and why obedience is the biblical foundation for intimacy with God, not chasing impressions, dreams, or inner promptings.00:00 Intro and who Doug Geivett is01:53 Why this topic hits a nerve and the pushback has been intense03:51 Why “hearing God’s voice” is so appealing and why it became mainstream now06:08 How expectations are shaped by church culture and imitation08:35 The personal draw: intimacy, immediacy, and “God speaking to me”10:35 Main dangers: replacing real intimacy with an artificial metric12:18 The irony: seeking intimacy but actually blocking it14:35 Social pressure, spiritual insecurity, and manufactured experiences19:06 Reading pushback comments: “relationship with a book” and “living God speaks”21:07 Why Scripture still governs the question, even if God speaks in other ways24:19 Psalm 119 and why God’s Word is not “just a book”28:35 Why impressions are also a medium, and the inconsistency in the critique30:37 A sincere concern: “being led by the Spirit” and daily guidance34:47 Acts, decision making, and “it seemed good to us” vs “God told me”37:09 John 14 and what Jesus actually promised about the Holy Spirit41:29 Fruit of the Spirit and what it means to be led by the Spirit43:34 “Does God speak English?” Clarifying what people mean by “God spoke”45:44 Guidance through maturity vs claiming private revealed words47:52 Imagination based practices and why that is a problem50:19 The core claim: intimacy with God is grounded in obedience, not voice chasing52:24 Outro

EP 19 | Exegesis Matters: Why Getting the Text Right Is So Vital to Expository Preaching (Part 2 of a 2-Part Interview with Dr. Adam Pivec)
Many Christians assume that if a sermon is biblically sound, it must be expository, but is that always true? In this conversation with my husband, Adam Pivec, we look beyond the label to explore what genuine "expository preaching" is. And we provide a checklist of things to listen for during your next Sunday sermon to know if your pastor is exegeting the text. This episode examines subtle, but crucial issues:• Why “using the Bible” doesn't guarantee that a sermon communicates the biblical author's intent• How some sermons begin in the text but drift into opinion or agenda• The role of the pastor as a messenger, not an originator of truth• Why faithful preaching often corrects our expectations rather than confirming themUltimately, this discussion reminds us that true expository teaching does more than reference Scripture, it submits to it. When the Word leads, the church is not shaped exclusively by the imagination or creativity of the preacher but by the voice of God Himself.

EP 18 | Exegesis Matters: Why Getting the Text Right Is So Vital to Expository Preaching (Part 1 of a 2-Part Interview with Dr. Adam Pivec)
How to know if a sermon is faithful to the biblical intent? In this episode, I sit down with my husband, Adam Pivec, to talk about something we care deeply about: expository preaching. We explore what it really is, why it's essential for the church today, and why so many sermons drift away from Scripture without people recognizing it.We explain the difference between exegesis (drawing meaning from Scripture) and eisegesis (reading our own ideas into it), and why getting this right is foundational for faithful Christian teaching and discipleship. We also discuss how sermons can subtly shift into opinion, trends, or personality-driven messages, even when pastors still quote the Bible. And Adam shares the concerning methods regularly used to preach within the New Apostolic Reformation movement. If you've ever struggled to find a church that teaches the Bible faithfully, or wondered whether topical sermons can be biblical, we address those issues, too. We also share encouragement for believers who feel discouraged by the lack of churches that teach exegetically, and what to do about it.#exegesis #doctrine #bibleverses #hermeneutics #hollypivec

EP 17 | Hearing God’s Voice: What Scripture Actually Teaches
Many Christians are told that if they’re not hearing God’s voice through inner impressions, dreams, or prophetic words, they’re missing out on intimacy with Him and knowing His will for their lives. But is that really what the Bible teaches? In this episode, we turn away from popular teachings and look at Scripture itself. What we find is both freeing and grounding: the normative way to hear God’s voice is through His written Word. The Bible is sufficient to equip us for salvation and for living a life pleasing to Him—without the pressure of chasing constant “signs.”You’ll learn:What Scripture actually means when it talks about “obeying God’s voice”Why the sufficiency of Scripture is central to hearing GodHow the “way of wisdom” offers a biblical model for making decisionsWhy God’s guidance doesn’t mean micromanaging our every choiceThis episode is not about dismissing God’s power to speak in extraordinary ways—but about recovering the confidence and peace that comes from growing in our ability to make wise, God-honoring choices.📖 Scriptures discussed: 2 Timothy 3:14–17, Deuteronomy 26:17, 2 Kings 18:11–12, Jeremiah 9:12–13, James 1:5, Proverbs 9, Psalm 111.If you’ve ever wondered how to truly hear God, this talk will help you anchor your faith and decision-making where they belong: in Scripture and the "way of wisdom."#doctrine #theology #bibleverses #hollypivec #godsvoice

EP11 | Subverting the Bible’s Authority: Part 5 of Review of Pete Greig’s Book How to Hear God
Are Christians being told to obey fallible prophecies? In this episode, I review Pete Greig’s How to Hear God and show how his teachings, while sounding biblical, subtly undermine Scripture’s authority. He claims the Bible is central, yet urges obedience to dreams and prophetic words that can be mistaken, even suggesting that studying Scripture can hinder hearing God’s voice.I explain why this “bait and switch” is dangerous, how it reflects broader NAR patterns, and why we must test both the words and practices of today’s teachers against Scripture.

EP10 | Is There a Genie in Your Bible? Part 4 of a Review of Pete Greig’s Book How to Hear God
Just because a verse hits you doesn’t mean it's about you. 📖💭 In this episode, I unpack how popular methods of "hearing God" through Scripture can drift into dangerous territory when context is thrown out the window. When we treat the Bible like a magic mirror, we risk seeing only our own reflection—not God's words.

EP09 | Why Pete Greig’s “ABC” Prophecy Test Fails the Bible’s Standards
What if “learning” to prophesy is less about hearing God and more about making stuff up? This episode exposes how popular methods like the “ABC filter” blur the line between God’s voice and human guesswork — or worse, flirt with practices the Bible clearly warns against. Rather than relying on a faulty "filter," the best way to test a word is to ask: “Would this survive the tests for prophecy given in Scripture?”

EP08 | Does God Speak to Us Like This?: Part 2 of a Review of "How to Hear God" by Pete Greig
A lot of Christians today believe God is speaking to them constantly—about everything from major life choices to what shirt to wear. But is that really what Scripture teaches? In this episode, I take a closer look at Pete Greig’s book How to Hear God and examine three commonly misused Bible passages: John 10:27, 1 Kings 19, and 1 Samuel 3. You’ll see how verses pulled out of context can be made to say things they were never meant to say—and why that matters. We’ll talk about Elijah’s “still small voice,” Samuel’s prophetic calling, and what Jesus really meant when He said, “My sheep hear my voice.”The goal here isn’t just to critique a book—it’s to help you grow in biblical discernment. If you’ve ever wondered whether you're supposed to be hearing God speak every day in whispers and impressions, this episode is for you. Let’s test these claims carefully and biblically.

EP07 | Pete Greig on “How to Hear God”
Is God really whispering to you... Or are you hearing something else? 🌀 In this episode, we dig into a book that's shaping how thousands think about hearing God, while also shining a light on the hidden influences many Christians don't realize they're embracing. 📚 Whether you're curious, cautious, or convinced, this conversation is worth having. Many Christians long for an intimate, conversational relationship with God, and Pete Greig offers what sounds like simple advice: "Listen and follow Jesus." According to him, all Christian theology boils down to those four words. From major life decisions to tiny, everyday choices—like which shirt to wear—Greig claims God is constantly whispering guidance to those who will listen. But comforting as that may sound, such bold claims demand biblical support. That's where things get convoluted. Greig points to the story of the road to Emmaus as a "master class" in how to hear God's voice. But that story, found in the Gospel of Luke, wasn't written as a manual for discerning divine whispers—it was written to show that Jesus truly rose from the dead and appeared physically to his followers. Reading it as a guide to spiritual intuition not only stretches the text but also ignores its context entirely.

EP06 | Is it important to learn how to "hear God's voice"?
When the “key to everything” becomes a catchphrase, it’s time to ask some hard questions. In this episode, we begin examining a popular but rarely scrutinized teaching: that God speaks to us regularly outside of Scripture—and that we need special methods to hear Him. But are we supposed to seek daily divine messages? This isn’t just a theological debate—it’s about spiritual safety and biblical fidelity.

EP05|What Old Worship Songs Can Show Us About New Ones
Worship music isn't just about the latest release—it’s a window into how generations before us thought about God. When we only listen to modern worship, we risk becoming blind to our own biases. Sometimes, it takes an old hymn to reveal just how much our theology has been shaped by the trends of today. Want to grow in discernment? Don’t skip the “old stuff.”Just think for a moment about the songs your church sings or what you hear on Christian radio or streaming platforms. What are the lyrics most often about? What are the theological assumptions? What buzzwords keep showing up? Now—how would those compare to the songs written by earlier generations of Christians?Sometimes, the best way to recognize the blind spots of our era is by listening to the voices of the past. In this episode, we explore how worship music—old and new—shapes our theology more than we realize.
