Kent talks with Dwight Upshaw & Nic Johnston, two of the coaches from PRVN Fitness, coaching some of the biggest names in the sport such as Tia Clair Toomey, Brooke Wells, Alec Smith, Streat Hoerner, Will Moorad and James Newbury.   ---   Dwight Upshaw, most recently was the head coach of Crossfit Sanitas, has trained all types of athletes for nearly 15 years.  (Crossfit Sanitas, btw, is the gym in Boulder CO owned by Eric Roza.  Eric was the CEO of Datalogix, an extremely successful technology company that he sold to Oracle, allowing him to buy Crossfit in 2020, where he is now CEO).  Growing up in Northern California, he started out in track, football, swimming, baseball, and soccer. In college, he was a D-1 rower on the UC Berkeley Crew Team. He later transitioned into triathlons and multi-sport racing and was part of the UC Berkeley Tri Team that won the Collegiate National Championship.  After years as an endurance athlete and with burnout beginning to creep in, Dwight found CrossFit.  The competitive, fun, community-based atmosphere helped him fall back in love with fitness. Pieter Valk talks with Kent about his belief that we are here by design, and part of that design is that sex is for marriage, and marriage is for a man and a women. Yet, he is openly gay. --- Pieter Valk is a licensed professional counselor who founded EQUIP in the summer of 2014. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with Highest Honors in Chemistry in 2013. After graduating, Pieter studied at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for a year with a focus on Lay Leadership and Culture-making. As a fellow of the Boston Fellows Program, he worked as a ministry development intern and completed a 26-week Pastoral Counseling course on relational and sexual brokenness. In 2016 Pieter graduated from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, with his Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In addition to his work with EQUIP, Pieter provides counseling services to LGBT+ students at a local Christian university. Pieter is motivated by the pain and beauty of his story and the stories of fellow gay Christians submitting their sexualities to the Lordship of Christ. Andy Schoonover talks with Kent about the state of health care in America, why it's so broken and what to do about it, the data supporting the advocacy of contraception for pregnancy care centers but the opposition this view faces, what non-profits can learn from for-profit businesses, as well as selling his company for over $100m, renting the Facebook party house to the real Mark Zuckerberg (as seen in the movie The Social Network), business and leadership principles he builds and leads by and much more. --- After graduating with a BS in Commerce from the McIntire School at the University of Virginia, Andy started his career at Host Marriott Corporation (now Host Hotels & Resorts, NYSE: HST) in the Treasury, Asset Management and Acquisition and Development groups and completed transactions valued at approximately $1.5 billion. He then moved to Silicon Valley to attend Stanford Business School where he got that entrepreneurial itch. As his friends headed off to Google, Facebook, and other high flying tech companies after graduation, Andy and Chris Hendriksen, his business school roommate, founded Blue Canyon Capital which was formed in September of 2006. Blue Canyon Capital then purchased Valued Relationships, Inc (VRI) in Dayton, Ohio. Andy became CEO and served in that role for five years. After a fourfold growth in revenues, the majority of VRI was sold to Pamlico Capital in 2014. VRI investors received a gross return of approximately 9x their investment.
