the Inner Practice, yoga for the mind
by Catherine Haylock
There's a calm that doesn't depend on anything going right. It's always there, just quieter than the thinking, and easy to lose under the noise of a busy mind. This podcast is about finding your way back to it. We look at how the mind works and why it makes everything harder than it needs to be, how to work with our emotions instead of being run by them, and how to hear the intuition underneath it all again. Nothing to fix, nothing to become, just a clearer way of seeing what's already here.I'm Catherine Haylock, and everything I share comes from my own experience, the difficult stretches and the quiet that came after.

How to stop believing every thought your mind tells you
What do you do when everything falls apart and you've got no energy to practice?A few years ago everything around me came crashing down, and so did I. I'd come from a strong physical yoga practice, and when it all fell apart there just wasn't the energy for the mat or the meditation cushion. In this episode I talk about what I actually did, day to day, over weeks, when everything else was out of reach. And then what came after, once my nervous system was calm enough that I could look at what was underneath, which is where the real work started. This is the work I teach, the Inner Practice, yoga for the mind. If you'd like to find out more, it's all at www.catherinehaylock.com/yoga-for-the-mindI'm sharing my own experience here and the practice I teach, not medical advice. If anxiety is making daily life hard for you at the moment, please talk to your doctor too, there's no reason to be doing this on your own.

How an emotion actually dissolves
Every time we're triggered and we stay with the feeling instead of the story, we shave one layer off it. And then one day someone says the thing that would have completely triggered us a year ago, and we notice, hours later, that we didn't even react to it. Nothing was managed, there was just less there to react with. That's what this episode is about, and it starts with the person cutting in front of you in the queue, small enough that we can practise on it.Try it this week, and if you do, I'd like to know where in your body you found it.I'm Catherine Haylock. I've been teaching yoga for over 25 years, and the Inner Practice is yoga for the mind: working directly with thoughts, emotions and the patterns underneath them.Work with me 1:1: https://catherinehaylock.com/work-with-me/Writing on the inner practice: https://catherinehaylock.com/sign-up/

Why fixing the stuck feeling keeps you stuck
Feeling stuck rarely arrives as a crisis. It's the niggling feeling in the quiet moments, when the day is done and something just doesn't sit right, and the question comes: is this it? Is this all I can expect? In this episode I take that feeling apart. Why we drown it out with doom-scrolling and binge watching TV, or bury it under the next plan, the next course, the meditation cushion we swear we'll sit on every morning. Why none of it holds, and why the brain, doing its job, protecting us from uncertainty, talks us out of change every time.I'm Catherine Haylock. I teach the Inner Practice, yoga for the mind: how to find the space underneath the chattering mind, where things get quieter and you can hear yourself again. For the writing and reflections between episodes, sign up to my newsletter: https://catherinehaylock.com/sign-up/To find out more about the Inner Practice: https://catherinehaylock.com/yoga-for-the-mind/
