MERCE: Make It Good to Be Alive

This episode is dedicated in loving memory to Richard “Dixpop” Nichols   Singer, songwriter, and producer MERCE joins Jeremiah for an intimate conversation about music, love, loss, and finding the road back to feeling alive.   As a founding member of the Jazzyfatnastees, Mercedes “MERCE” Martinez helped shape the emerging neo-soul movement, contributing to Philadelphia’s fertile musical landscape and leaving an indelible mark on the city by founding Black Lily: A Women in Music Series. Initially conceived as a weekly live-music showcase in Philadelphia, the series became a pivotal launchpad and vibrant community space for a remarkable wave of neo-soul, neo-funk, and organic hip-hop artists. It provided early exposure to iconic figures such as Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Bilal, Floetry, and Jazmine Sullivan, paving the way for their future success.   Now, MERCE steps forward with her debut full-length solo album, Alive—a deeply personal project created in the wake of the loss of her husband, creative partner, and mentor, Richard “Dixpop” Nichols.   MERCE discusses growing up immersed in music, finding her own sound beyond genre, learning to trust emotion as her creative compass, and returning to the studio after a devastating loss.    She also shares how songs such as “Overcome,” “In Time On Time,” “Come and Go,” and “Alive” trace a journey from questioning whether she could move forward to recognizing the gift of still being here.   With her new single “My Guy,” MERCE arrives at another realization: what is truly meant for us will never pass us by.   A conversation about light and shadow, the people we carry with us, and making the most of the time we have.   Today’s music soundtrack includes new music from MERCE, from her debut solo full-length album ALIVE, created with longtime collaborators Rick Friedrich (The Roots) and Kush Oxford (Estelle) - COMING SOON   Get Social with: MERCE on Instagram.  | @mercesingersongwriter   Follow and Listen:  MERCE Spotify | MERCE MERCE on Apple Music | MERCE   Check out MERCE’S “My Guy” video on YouTube MERCE YouTube | @merce-music   Photography by Liliana Salinas // Artwork by FMWJ   CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction and overview of Merce's journey 02:02 The story behind the album 'Alive' 03:52 Merce's relationship with Richard Dixpop Nichols 06:08 The influence of Richard on Merce's music and life 08:00 The impact of loss and the process of healing 09:55 Creating 'Alive' amidst challenges and setbacks 11:54 The significance of the album's title and themes 14:02 Visual elements and symbolism in the music video 16:01 Reflections on authenticity, courage, and artistic growth 17:55 Life's beauty and the importance of family and creativity 19:57 Merce's son's musical talent and future 21:57 Upcoming releases and Merce's social media presence 24:01 Final thoughts and dedication to Richard   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Michael Orland & Jamie Wooten: Love, Luck & Show Business

Step behind the curtain into old Hollywood, where craft mattered, where legends walked the soundstages, and where a chance encounter could change a life's course.   Jeremiah welcomes longtime friends and collaborators Michael Orland and Jamie Wooten for a warm, funny, and deeply personal conversation about show business, friendship, music, and the remarkable turns that have shaped their lives.   Michael—legendary music director, pianist, arranger, and longtime American Idol vocal coach—shares memories of working with entertainment icons such as Ann Miller and Kay Ballard, and explains why talent alone is never enough without work ethic, preparation, and a little bit of luck. Jamie reflects on his years writing The Golden Girls, the unexpected accident that led him from performing to television writing, and how the lessons buried in that beloved sitcom eventually became lessons for his own life.   Michael and Jamie reveal the story behind their uplifting new song, “Love Is Why We’re Here,” featuring Sam Gravitte—and why, after decades in entertainment, its simple message may hold the greatest lesson of all.   Michael Orland INSTAGRAM Michael Orland on YouTube   Jamie Wooten WEBSITE   Photo credit courtesy of Michael Orland and Jamie Wooten    CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction to Hollywood's Studio World 00:29 Guests Jamie Wooten and Michael Orland Introduced 01:23 Jamie Wooten's Career Highlights 02:26 TV Evolution: Network Sitcoms to Streaming 03:41 The Future of Sitcoms and Industry Trends 05:13 Michael Orland on Talent Mining and Show Business 06:09 The Changing Music Industry and Artist Development 08:41 Gains and Losses in Music and TV Industries 11:06 Inspirations from Classic Composers 12:37 Memories of Hollywood Stars and Career Reflections 14:56 The Impact of Industry Timing and Luck 18:44 Jamie Wooten's Success in Theater and Playwriting 22:26 Meeting Debbie Shapiro and Fateful Encounters 23:37 Belief in Fate and Life's Path 28:25 Reflections on Life, Love, and Learning 30:23 The Message of Love and Simplicity in the Song 33:22 Closing Remarks and Song Premiere   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Tristan Tritt - Defiance Has A Voice

THE JEREMIAH SHOW Featuring Tristan Tritt   For Tristan Tritt, rock and roll has always been a voice of defiance—and he has no intention of playing it safe.   The son of country music icon Travis Tritt, Tristan grew up backstage and on tour buses, immersed in music before setting out to build a life entirely his own. He joins Jeremiah to discuss overcoming stage fright, building a community around his music, and making songs he hopes will still matter 30 years from now.   Tristan also opens up about his parents, Travis and Theresa, the lessons he learned growing up on the road, and why the smell of “cigarettes and diesel” instantly transports him back to childhood.   At the center is his new single, “Living the Dream,” a hard-hitting anthem born of a generation trying to make sense of a divided world.   “There was a rawness to rock and roll that caught my attention and never let go.”   Tristan Tritt carries that rock rawness forward.   TRISTAN TRITT WEBSITE TRISTAN TRITT SPOTIFY TRISTAN TRITT INSTAGRAM     CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction and episode overview 04:58 Nostalgia for community and patriotism in Idaho 16:11 Family influences and marriage of Tristan’s parents 18:05 Inspiration from his mother’s kindness and selflessness 19:25 Growing up on the road and childhood memories 21:12 Lessons from life on the road and routines 23:30 Future plans and raising a family on the road 25:01 Early memories of backstage and sensory experiences 26:47 Stage nerves and performance mindset 28:16 The influence of rock and roll on his soul 38:21 Principles to live by: integrity and honesty 40:20 Connecting with fans through genuine interaction 41:56 The evolving image of a rock star today 43:07 The modern rock star lifestyle and discipline 45:10 Rebellious childhood and attitude towards authority 45:54 Personal vices and self-discipline 47:16 Introducing his band members and their roles 49:22 The importance of storytelling in his music 50:30 Expressing frustration and hope in his lyrics 54:40 Future goals and the meaning of living the dream 56:21 Closing remarks and encouragement for aspiring artists   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. DIPSEA FLOWER Taking The Road Less Traveled

For Dipsea Flower, the road less traveled brought four musicians together—and turned them into a band.   Born at Berklee College of Music and forged on the road, Dipsea Flower comprises Ari Rosenberg, Trevor Hurvitz, Andy Baker, and Spencer Arjang—four musicians whose friendship is inseparable from the music they create.   The band joins Jeremiah to discuss the moments that first called each of them to music, how Dipsea Flower came together, and the summer spent crisscrossing the country in a Honda Pilot, a journey that transformed four musicians into a genuine band.   They also explore creativity, finding inspiration by actually living life and getting out of your own head, and by explaining why Dipsea Flower isn't interested in making music simply to create a product. As Ari puts it, “We’re human beings, and we make mistakes—and that’s part of why it works.”   It’s a conversation about friendship, instinct, life on the road, and four young artists taking the road less traveled together.   DIPSEA FLOWER ON INSTAGRAM DIPSEA FLOWER ON APPLE MUSIC DIPSEA FLOWER ON SPOTIFY   CHAPTERS   00:00 Introduction to Dipsea Flower and their journey 02:27 The origin of the band and the meaning of the name Dipsea Flower 04:11 The pivotal moment for Ari Rosenberg's musical calling 07:04 Trevor Hurvitz's early musical influences and first instruments 09:27 First musical experiences of the band members from the East Coast 12:15 Adjusting to life and music in Boston and California 14:55 Finding and expressing their unique musical voice 17:26 How the band members met and formed Dipsea Flower 20:02 Memorable moments of meeting and collaborating 23:28 The chemistry of the band and their live performance dynamic 30:42 The band’s vision for the future and their musical goals 34:47 The influence of California and East Coast sounds 40:57 The meaning of the song 'Song of the Blue Jay' and their creative process     POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Taylor Morden + Zeke Kamm | The Last Blockbuster

Blockbuster was once integral to people's lives, then disappeared, but “there was no funeral for it.” We all rented a movie from Blockbuster for the last time. The strange thing is, none of us knew it was the last time.    Featuring Taylor Morden & Zeke Kamm   Classic Episode 359 - Originally aired June 13, 2023   Filmmakers Taylor Morden and Zeke Kamm, creators of the hit documentary The Last Blockbuster, join Jeremiah on a wonderfully nostalgic trip back to Friday-night movie rentals, late fees, VHS tapes, date nights—and that unmistakable Blockbuster smell.   Taylor and Zeke reveal how a simple idea about their local video store in Bend, Oregon, evolved into a film about the last Blockbuster on Earth, why manager Sandi Harding became the heart of the story, and what we lost when convenience replaced the ritual of wandering those video-store aisles together.   And then there's the ultimate irony: a documentary mourning Blockbuster's disappearance became a Netflix hit.   It’s funny, nostalgic, and surprisingly moving—a conversation about movies, memories, and the experiences we don't realize we'll miss until they're gone.   THE LAST BLOCKBUSTER INSTAGRAM THE LAST BLOCKBUSTER BEND WEBSITE   CHAPTERS   00:00 — Welcome to The Last Blockbuster 03:41 — Meet Filmmakers Taylor Morden & Zeke Kamm 11:51 — How The Last Blockbuster Began 15:32 — Why Blockbuster Nostalgia Still Resonates 19:10 — Meeting Sandi Harding: The Heart of the Film 27:36 — How Blockbuster’s Business Model Really Worked 37:33 — The VHS Tape Scene That Brought Back the Memories 48:43 — What We Lost When Video Stores Disappeared 51:26 — Blockbuster Date Nights, Memories & That Famous Smell 01:04:49 — The Ultimate Irony: The Last Blockbuster Lands on Netflix       POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Jerry Lee | The Empty Bowl

The Day The Noodles Ran Out...Featuring Jerry Lee, Owner of The Empty Bowl   Classic Episode 224 - Originally aired May 29, 2019   Jerry Lee bet everything he had on a tiny noodle bar in Santa Barbara. On opening day, The Empty Bowl ran out of noodles at 4 p.m., even though they were supposed to stay open until nine.   That turned out to be a pretty good problem to have.   Born in Taipei and raised in his family’s restaurants, Jerry grew up washing dishes and watching his parents work seven days a week. He eventually built a career in hospitality, spanning fine dining and wine, and helped establish service standards and a world-class wine cellar at the legendary San Ysidro Ranch.   Jerry joins The Jeremiah Show to share how he built The Empty Bowl, why consistency and training were central to his success, and why restaurant owners should never ask employees to do work they aren't willing to do themselves.   There’s also an unexpected family story: after 30 years of divorce, Jerry’s parents found each other again—and remarried.   Restaurants, risk, family, and one unforgettable opening day.   EMPTY BOWL INSTAGRAM EMPTY BOWL WEBSITE JERRY LEE INSTAGRAM   CHAPTERS   00:00 Introduction to Jerry Lee and his culinary background 03:09 Early life in Taipei and family restaurant roots 07:00 Moving to California and starting in the restaurant industry 12:00 Transition from server to restaurateur 19:55 Opening Empty Bowl Gourmet Noodle Bar and sourcing ingredients 29:59 Expanding with Cow Gang and Thai cuisine focus 39:56 Training staff and maintaining quality 49:56 Future plans, franchising, and wine cellar project     POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Veronica Swift | The Storyteller

Classic Episode 338 - Originally aired January 7, 2021   This episode is dedicated in loving memory of Hod O’Brien   Step into the world of acclaimed jazz vocalist Veronica Swift, an artist who literally grew up immersed in music.   Veronica, the daughter of jazz pianist Hod O’Brien and vocalist Stephanie Nakasian, recorded her first album at age nine and spent her childhood surrounded by musicians who helped shape American jazz. She has already performed alongside Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, Michael Feinstein, Benny Green, and other giants of the genre.   Joining Jeremiah from Scarborough, England, Veronica discusses her remarkable musical upbringing, life on the road, and why she considers jazz “American classical music.” She shares how classical music, opera, rock, heavy metal, bebop, and swing have influenced her artistry—and why she believes,  “We are as good as what we expose ourselves to.”   The conversation also explores the pandemic’s devastating impact on jazz clubs and live performance, the relationship between music and emotion, and Veronica’s belief that the great venues where musicians perform can become almost sacred spaces.   In one of the episode’s most personal moments, Veronica remembers her father, the legendary jazz pianist Hod O’Brien, who died in 2016. She reflects on his influence, his humility, and the chance he had to watch his daughter’s career take flight. This episode is in his memory.   Ultimately, Veronica sees herself as more than a vocalist: “She is a storyteller.”   “Music will change, art will change, the way we talk, the way we share...but storytelling transcends time.”   VERONICA SWIFT   VERONICA SWIFT INSTAGRAM   CHAPTERS   00:00 Introduction to Veronica Swift and her musical journey 02:31 Veronica Swift's early influences and family background 05:53 Her experiences touring with jazz legends 09:06 The impact of the pandemic on live jazz venues 12:03 Music as a reflection of personal and collective experiences 14:56 The influence of classical and opera music on jazz 18:00 The significance of historic jazz venues and their legacy 21:02 Veronica Swift's approach to storytelling and emotional expression 23:49 Her upcoming projects and future vision for jazz     POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. ROREY: I Get It Now

What do you do when love is no longer enough—and holding on costs you more than just letting go?   New York singer-songwriter ROREY joins The Jeremiah Show for a deeply personal conversation about heartbreak, self-respect, bipolar disorder, and the music that emerged from one of the most difficult relationships of her life.   Her new album, I Get It Now, available August 14, chronicles the slow disillusionment of loving someone deeply while realizing the relationship cannot survive. ROREY opens up about carrying a relationship long after she knew she should put it down, romanticizing someone's absence, learning to choose herself, and finally accepting that some people change your life without remaining in it.   ROREY also discusses how songwriting has helped her navigate bipolar disorder and intense emotional states. For her, creating music isn't simply an artistic exercise—it's a form of survival. "I write for myself," she explains. "In the moment, it's a form of therapy."   We go inside the stories behind "Dying Fire," "I'm Sure," "Temporary Tragedy," "Quiet Love," and her new single "Binary Thinking," a song inspired by the unanswered questions left behind when someone disappears from your life without explanation.   ROREY also takes us behind the visual world surrounding her music, including the remarkable one-take video for "Hurts Me to Hate You," created with her mother, and her noir-inspired video for "Binary Thinking."   Ultimately, I Get It Now isn't a record about having all the answers. It's about the moment when you finally stop fighting what you already know.   "This album has no ego and no pride," ROREY says. "I am not posturing. I am devastated. In every single song, my heart is bleeding. And I have no shame in that."   ROREY's new album I Get It Now is available August 14.   Music featured in this episode: "Dying Fire" "I'm Sure" "Give Me a Reason" "Binary Thinking"   ROREY'S SOCIALS   INSTAGRAM   TIKTOK   WEBSITE   Photo: Olive Jolley    CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction to Rory and her new album 04:51 The song 'Dying Fire' and its emotional meaning 07:31 Reflections on dysphoria and mental health 12:52 The story behind 'I Get It Now' and its themes 17:08 Lyrics and songwriting process for 'Understated' 22:28 Projecting onto the present and past relationships 26:29 The significance of releasing her album 30:13 Living with deep emotional sensitivity 35:21 Music videos and visual storytelling 45:31 Collaborations with Scott Effman and Jimmy 49:48 The creative process behind 'Binary Thinking' 54:18 What Rory wants listeners to feel and see 01:00:23 The meaning behind 'I Get It Now'   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Soulful Smallz: Beyond The Time

One question changed Soulful Smallz's life forever. Long before he became an R&B artist, Soulful Smallz was a little boy from East Long Beach who lost both of his parents at just six years old. Searching for belonging, he found himself caught in a cycle that led to juvenile hall, prison, and ultimately 14 years behind bars.   But it was inside prison where everything began to change.   In this deeply personal conversation, Soulful shares how music became his therapy, how one inmate's simple question—"Do you want to live life... or do you want a life?"—transformed the way he saw himself, and how Homeboy Industries helped him discover purpose beyond his past.   Today, Soulful uses his music and his story to inspire others who are searching for hope, healing, and a second chance.   This is a conversation about loss, redemption, and choosing the life you want to live.   Today’s Music Soundtrack Includes Music Artists: Soulful Smallz, Beno, and MM.   Soulful Smallz Instagram   Photographer's credit - CATHRYN FARNSWORTH   CHAPTERS   00:00 Introduction  01:39 The value of time and early life challenges 03:09 Losing both parents at age six and its impact 04:34 Childhood personality and early trauma 05:31 Memorializing parents and their influence 07:29 Imagining how to spend more time with parents 08:34 Dreams of starting a winery and creative pursuits 12:32 Life after loss and turning to the streets 14:06 Juvenile hall and rediscovery of music 15:14 Music in juvenile hall and early influences 19:10 Musical inspirations and developing a style 22:43 Moment of self-reflection and overcoming depression 23:42 Suicide attempt and divine intervention 27:29 First encouragement and stepping into music 30:41 Performing on stage after prison 32:10 Playing 'Do the Time' and its meaning 37:46 The significance of community and mentorship 43:25 The influence of Coop and life-changing questions 50:04 Discovering Homeboy Industries and its impact 54:25 The mission of Homeboy Industries 56:47 Evolving through community and faith 01:05:07 Future goals and legacy building 01:08:27 Message of hope for struggling listeners 01:09:00 What Soulful Smallz wants his life to stand for   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Mauricio Velázquez de León: Every Recipe Tells a Story

Stories Worth Passing Down The first lessons we learn in life rarely come from classrooms. They come from kitchens.   For author and publisher Mauricio Velázquez de León, the aroma of simmering beans, handmade tortillas, and family recipes became a bridge between generations.   Inspired by his relative, legendary Mexican culinary pioneer Josefina Velázquez de León, Mauricio has spent his career preserving culture through storytelling—first as the founder of the award-winning children's publisher Duopress, and now through food writing that celebrates the people, traditions, and memories behind every meal.   In this heartfelt conversation, Mauricio shares his journey from Mexico City to New York, explains how homesickness led him to rediscover authentic Mexican cooking, and reflects on why food has the remarkable ability to transport us back to the people and places we love most.   We also explore the philosophy behind Duopress, the importance of making books fun for children, and how scientific research, curiosity, and creativity shaped one of the most successful children's publishing imprints in America.   Finally, Mauricio introduces his delightful new cookbook, An Illustrated Guide to Tacos and Burritos: A Comic Book with Stories, Recipes, and More—an inventive blend of culinary history, authentic recipes, and graphic storytelling that makes Mexican cooking approachable for everyone.   Whether you're passionate about food, publishing, travel, or family traditions, this episode is a reminder that the best stories are often shared around the table.   THE MUSIC SOUNDTRACK FOR THIS EPISODE INCLUDES:  Get Wild - HOUZEWORKZ & Quentin Hartz Drive It Into The Ground - The Fuses I’m Not Going Anywhere - The Golden Gaytimes Guetta - Some Sprouts   Spotify Playlist SN22Ep11     In this episode: • The extraordinary legacy of Josefina Velázquez de León, Mexico's first celebrity chef • Growing up in Mexico City and finding home through food • Building Duopress into one of America's most innovative children's publishers • Why books should be educational—and fun • Immigration, identity, and preserving culture through cooking • The inspiration behind An Illustrated Guide to Tacos and Burritos • How recipes become family heirlooms passed from one generation to the next   CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction to Mauricio Velazquez de Leon and his work 02:12 The legacy of Josefina Velazquez de León in Mexican cuisine 04:02 Food as a connection to family and cultural memory 07:02 Mauricio's discovery of Josefina's true impact and influence 09:48 How Mauricio's career path was inspired by his family and Josefina 12:04 Breaking into American media with a story about Mexican food 15:46 The significance of traditional Mexican dishes and culinary techniques 20:07 The role of food in preserving cultural identity abroad 25:04 The founding and growth of Duo Press and its mission 30:05 The principles guiding Mauricio's publishing and storytelling 37:10 Introduction to the illustrated guide to tacos and burritos 39:54 The creative decision to illustrate the cookbook as a comic book 44:45 Design choices inspired by Mexican graphic art and street culture 50:03 Making food fun and accessible for a global audience 55:11 The scientific research behind infant visual development 01:00:06 How the book reflects Mexican culture and regional diversity 01:04:47 Mauricio's hopes for how readers will connect with Mexican culture 01:08:56 Closing thoughts and upcoming projects   Order AN ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO TACOS AND BURRITOS here!   TacosandBurritosBook.com   Instagram   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. SANGINA: Freedom to Become

Some journeys take us far from home. Others teach us that home never really leaves us. Born in Kazakhstan to a Kazakh father and an Uzbek mother, award-winning singer-songwriter SANGINA joins The Jeremiah Show for a deeply personal conversation about identity, freedom, and the experiences that shape who we become. From the ancient Silk Road and the traditions of Central Asia to recording music in Los Angeles, her story bridges two cultures while remaining deeply rooted in both. During the conversation, SANGINA reflects on growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, discovering music through childhood choir, competing on international television shows including The Voice, and the life-changing competition in Turkey that gave her the confidence to pursue music professionally. She shares how studying at Musicians Institute opened new creative possibilities as a songwriter, producer, and independent artist while helping her build a career entirely on her own terms. She also discusses blending Eastern musical traditions with contemporary Western production, preserving the excitement of songwriting, navigating the challenges of independence, and mentoring aspiring singers to become confident, self-sufficient artists rather than relying on a vocal coach forever. Along the way, SANGINA reflects on representing Kazakhstan wherever she goes—not simply as the country where she was born, but as the place that taught her generosity, resilience, and, above all, freedom. She also shares the remarkable milestones of becoming one of Kazakhstan's first Grammy Voting Members, receiving multiple nominations at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards, and explains why she believes success begins with remaining curious enough to keep learning. Will Breman NBC's The Voice SN17 - Team Legend

Sometimes the greatest victory isn't hearing someone say "yes." It's refusing to let every "no" define you. Originally aired on October 24, 2019, this Classic Episode features Will Breman, the Santa Barbara singer-songwriter whose unforgettable audition on NBC's The Voice SN17 earned him a spot on Team Legend and launched a remarkable new chapter in his career. Will was the first artist from The Voice to join The Jeremiah Show—the beginning of a journey that would eventually bring 54 Voice Artist interviews on the show. During our conversation, Will shares the emotional story behind his Blind Audition, the relief he felt when John Legend and Gwen Stefani turned their chairs, and the years of perseverance that led to his breakthrough after leaving his day job to pursue music full-time. He also speaks candidly about living with Asperger syndrome, how songwriting became his voice, and why authenticity has always mattered more than fitting in. Listeners will also hear the stories behind Will's original songs from his Santa Barbara Soul Music EP, including the deeply personal inspiration for "Olive Trees," as well as his reflections on creativity, community, and finding hope through music.   Will Breman’s Website   Santa Barbara Records   Spotify   Instagram   Twitter   Facebook   The Voice NBC Show   CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction to Will Breman and his background 02:07 Will’s experience on The Voice and memorable moments 03:56 Overcoming performance anxiety and the moment of success 05:55 The story behind the song 'Olive Trees' 08:07 Will’s musical influences and style 10:00 Living in Santa Barbara and its impact on his music 11:53 Dealing with Asperger’s syndrome through music 13:54 The songwriting process and emotional expression 16:04 Reflections on personal growth and future goals   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Maz Jobrani, Connected

The shortest distance between two cultures... is a laugh. Originally aired on October 5, 2019, this Classic Episode features internationally acclaimed comedian, actor, bestselling author, and humanitarian Maz Jobrani in one of the most thoughtful conversations ever featured on The Jeremiah Show.  This episode was the first of many appearances by Maz.    Best known for the groundbreaking Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, his hit Netflix special Immigrant, CBS's Superior Donuts, and countless sold-out performances around the world, Maz shares how comedy became his way of building bridges between cultures rather than walls between people. During the interview, Maz reflects on growing up as an Iranian immigrant in America, why laughter can challenge stereotypes, and how finding common ground through humor has shaped both his career and his life.   He also offers a moving tribute to his late sister, award-winning filmmaker Mariam Jobrani, whose documentary Everything Must Change chronicles her courageous battle with breast cancer and reminds us to embrace every moment of life. Equal parts hilarious, heartfelt, and inspiring, this Classic Episode reminds us that some of the most meaningful conversations begin with a laugh. *Jeremiah sincerely apologizes for mispronouncing Maz's name in the first segment!   Maz Jobrani Official Website   Maz Jobrani Twitter   Maz Jobrani Instagram   Superior Donuts on CBS    Immigrant Netflix Special   Everything Must Change Film    CHAPTERS   00:00 Introduction to Maz Jobrani and his background 03:21 Maz's experience at Berkeley commencement 07:55 Discussing 'Superior Donuts' and Netflix special 'Immigrant' 12:04 Maz's thoughts on comedy and stereotypes 16:24 Maz's future projects and aspirations 21:12 Mariam Giobrani's story and 'Everything Must Change' 28:07 Reflections on grief and advocacy 29:00 Humor in the face of tragedy 30:57 Closing remarks and upcoming events   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Naomi Jane is Kinda Sorta Country

What if the smallest act of kindness became the greatest love song ever written?   Singer-songwriter Naomi Jane returns to The Jeremiah Show for an intimate conversation celebrating her upcoming debut full-length album, Kinda Sorta Country, releasing October 9, 2026.   Together, Jeremiah and Naomi explore the stories behind three deeply personal songs that capture the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Naomi reveals how her father unknowingly inspired the touching single Clementines, explains how a painful betrayal became the empowering anthem Pumpkin Eater, and shares the memories behind Farren Road, the coming-of-age ballad inspired by a hidden road on California's Central Coast where generations have fallen in love.   Throughout the interview, Naomi reflects on navigating heartbreak, online criticism, changing friendships, discovering her artistic identity, and learning the difference between loving someone and finally being loved in return.   The conversation also explores her evolution from the innocence of her 2024 EP sweet talk to the confidence and creative freedom that define Kinda Sorta Country.   Produced by Adam Zelkind and featuring collaborations with Nashville songwriter Joey Hyde and acclaimed musicians including Toad The Wet Sprockets' Glen Phillips, Greg Leisz, Jimmy Mattingly, Theo Haber, Tyson Motsenbocker, and Greg Holden, Kinda Sorta Country balances polished musicianship with deeply personal storytelling.   "I'm not chasing anymore. I'm choosing,” says Naomi.   This episode also features the world premiere of "Farren Road", heard here before its official release.   If you've ever experienced first love, first heartbreak, or wondered how artists transform life's hardest moments into beautiful songs, this conversation is for you.   Support independent music this summer. Carlton "Santa" Davis - Reggae Rhythm

Few musicians can say they helped shape a musical movement from its earliest days. Even fewer can say they stood alongside legends as that movement changed the world.   In this episode of The Jeremiah Show: Pop Culture, Music Icons, Food Gods, guest host Mike Gormley sits down with reggae drummer Carlton "Santa" Davis, one of the most respected rhythm makers in Jamaican music history.   Born and raised in Jamaica, Davis began playing drums at age eleven through a Catholic youth organization that kept local kids focused on music and community. What began with a makeshift drum kit assembled from marching band equipment eventually led to a career performing with some of reggae's most influential artists.   During the conversation, Davis reflects on Jamaica's close-knit music scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when aspiring musicians gathered on Kingston's famous Orange Street and Chancery Lane, hoping for studio calls and opportunities. Those early experiences led him to recording sessions with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer during reggae's formative years.   Davis shares stories from his earliest recordings with The Wailers, his years working alongside Peter Tosh, and the discipline needed to survive in Jamaica's highly competitive studio environment. He also discusses reggae's global expansion, noting that today's audiences span Europe, Eastern Europe, and beyond, proving that Bob Marley's vision of reggae reaching the world continues to unfold.   Now touring internationally to promote his 2025 album “Thy Will Be Done, "Davis remains both a steward and a participant in reggae's ongoing evolution. His stories offer a rare firsthand perspective on the artists, studios, and communities that transformed a local Jamaican sound into a global cultural force. But when her career path shifted, music slowly faded into the background. What followed was an unexpected creative awakening that led to more than twenty new songs, including her debut singles "Good Girl" and "I Am You, You Are Me."   During our conversation, Yalana shares her journey from Russia to Los Angeles, the pressures of being the "good girl," the power of therapy and self-discovery, and why it's never too late to return to your true self.   This is a conversation about music, transformation, and finding the courage to become who you were always meant to be.   "It's never too late to get back to yourself, to your true self."   In This Episode: Growing up in Russia and fronting a rock band Building a successful career in public relations Moving to Los Angeles with almost no English The creative awakening that sparked her return to music The story behind "Good Girl" Healing, self-discovery, and finding your authentic voice Why songwriting became a form of therapy What's next for Yalana Featured Songs: • "Good Girl" • "I Am You, You Are Me"   Follow YALANA INSTAGRAM TikTok   Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Yolana and Her Musical Journey 05:00 Transition from Music to PR and Back 10:06 Insights on the Russian Music Industry 14:53 The Emotional Journey of Songwriting 19:58 Reconnecting with Music and Inner Self 25:09 Yolana's New Music and Artistic Evolution 34:54 Vocal Evolution and Techniques 37:07 The Journey of Songwriting 40:20 Returning to Music and Personal Growth 45:22 The Essence of Yolana: Transformation and Identity 48:25 Breaking Free from Expectations 52:36 Overcoming Self-Sabotage 54:16 Recognizing the Forgotten Self 56:34 The Role of Supportive Relationships 01:00:18 The Artist's Vision and Future Projects   The Jeremiah Show features conversations with music icons, filmmakers, chefs, entrepreneurs, authors, and artists who inspire us to listen more and evolve.   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Sierra Levesque is the New Generation

At just 21 years old, Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sierra Levesque is proving that guitar-driven rock still has the power to ignite a new generation.    Raised on the sounds of Guns N’ Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, and Heart, Levesque transformed an early obsession with music into a relentless pursuit of artistry, teaching herself the drums, piano, guitar, and bass by the age of 13,  while developing a sound that channels the energy and guitar-driven spirit of ’80s hard rock and metal with her own distinct style.   Her explosive live performances, unmistakable image, and fearless authenticity have already earned praise from Guitar World, which called her “the future of rock ’n’ roll,” while mentors and collaborators, including Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N' Roses), Nancy Wilson, and LA Guns, have become part of her rapidly expanding orbit. Yet despite the comparisons to past icons, Levesque remains focused on carving out her own identity. “I wanna be Sierra Levesque,” she says. “I don’t really wanna be the next someone.”   What makes Levesque especially compelling is her refusal to simply imitate the artists who inspired her. Whether she’s performing arena national anthems, sharing stages with rock legends, or building a fiercely loyal online following, her focus remains on creating music that feels unmistakably her own. “I want people to know it’s Sierra Levesque when they hear me,” she explains — a mission that comes fully alive on her debut album NEW GENERATION, a 13-track collection of fully original, self-recorded songs that has already surpassed 2.5 million Spotify streams. Combining heavy riffs, emotionally honest songwriting, and arena-sized hooks, NEW GENERATION positions Sierra Levesque as one of the most exciting young artists carrying rock forward for the NEXT GENERATION.   Sierra Levesque’s WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM | SPOTIFY    Photo Credits: Jack Lue   Chapters – Sierra Levesque 00:00 – Jeremiah's Rock & Roll Origin Story Jeremiah shares how discovering AC/DC as a kid changed his life and set him on a path toward music. 10:09 – From Musical Theater to Heavy Metal Sierra discusses growing up in musical theater, discovering rock music, and the influence of her family. 18:00 – KISS, Ozzy, and Finding Her Musical Identity The bands that shaped Sierra's sound, her first rock concert, and why classic rock became her passion. 22:17 – Taking Chances and Learning Every Instrument Sierra talks about reaching out to artists, learning guitar, bass, drums, and piano, and the discipline behind her success. 31:45 – Self-Doubt, Perseverance, and Online Criticism A candid conversation about confidence, criticism, social media, and staying focused on long-term goals. 37:08 – Song Feature: "Don't Go" Sierra introduces her single "Don't Go" and the inspirations behind the song. 45:26 – Loss, Mentorship, and Finding Her Sound Remembering mentor Pat Hamill, working with Bumblefoot, and developing a unique artistic voice. 01:13:54 – The Future of Rock & Roll Sierra discusses her vision for modern rock, inspiring young musicians, and carrying the torch for a new generation. Franny Higgins Through Fire And Rain

For this special Mother’s Day episode of The Jeremiah Show, Jeremiah sits down with the person who shaped his life more than anyone else — his mom, Franny Higgins. What begins as a conversation about growing up on the Santa Barbara Mesa unfolds into a deeply personal story about love, family, hardship, creativity, motherhood, and finding beauty in ordinary moments. Franny reflects on meeting her husband Terry during the counterculture era of the late ’60s, raising three children across the Pacific Northwest, and eventually creating the warm, nature-inspired world of Franny Annie’s Childcare — a place that has nurtured more than 50 children over the last two decades. Together, Jeremiah and Franny revisit memories of Shoreline Park, homemade bread, hitchhiking to Oregon, raising children in cabins and farm country, and learning how to hold onto hope through grief and loss. The episode becomes a meditation on resilience, gentleness, and the quiet lessons mothers teach simply by the way they live. One of the most powerful moments comes when Franny reflects on aging and her early morning walks through Santa Barbara: “My world… it is so rich. It’s filled with trees. I could spend a lifetime exploring every branch that breathes, every bird that sings.” This is a heartfelt conversation about memory, family, and the people who shape us forever.   franny annies childcare Franny Higgins Instagram   Photo Credit - Lauren Ross Lauren Ross Photography   CHAPTERS 00:00 — Fire and Rain: Jeremiah’s Mother’s Day opening reflection 11:43 — Franny’s childhood on the Santa Barbara Mesa 14:26 — Talking to trees overlooking the ocean 15:30 — Family trips, Yosemite, Disneyland & growing up with little money 18:17 — Clifford Perrault: humor, imagination & family stories 23:10 — Difficult family years 26:40 — Photography, dance & dreams of motherhood 28:32 — Meeting Terry Higgins during the late ’60s counterculture era 33:41 — Becoming young parents and building a family together 37:12 — Living across Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Arkansas & beyond 40:04 — Returning home to Santa Barbara 43:42 — Going back to school and discovering childcare 47:34 — The vision behind Franny Annie’s Childcare 53:52 — Treehouses, outdoor learning & creating wonder for children 56:32 — Why meal time matters for young children 01:00:29 — What Franny hopes children carry with them into adulthood 01:05:27 — Grief, resilience & finding beauty after loss 01:06:30 — Morning walks, nature & growing older 01:09:30 — The bond with Sugizo 01:11:34 — Remembering Terry Higgins, a decade later 01:14:10 — Closing thoughts & sponsor acknowledgements   POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS - Listen More & Evolve   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D. Hunter Hawkins is in a Phase

    * ORIGINALLY AIRED August 21, 2021   On this episode of The Jeremiah Show, rising artist Hunter Hawkins shares the story behind her debut EP Phase—a deeply personal project shaped by change, independence, and self-discovery. Hunter takes us through the evolution of the record, from writing her first songs after a transformative experience at a songwriting festival in Hawaii to navigating uncertainty during the pandemic. Along the way, she opens up about stepping away from expectations, leaving behind the pressure to fit into a mold, and learning to trust her own voice. Each song on Phase captures a moment in time—family dynamics, emotional growth, and the process of rebuilding a sense of self. This is a conversation about identity, creativity, and what it means to move forward without a script. Listen now to hear the full story behind Phase and discover one of the most compelling new voices in indie music. Chef Dom of Dom’s Taverna - A Chef's Story

From an Oregon vineyard to Santa Barbara’s hottest new restaurant, Chef Dom Crisp shares a journey shaped by the land, discipline, and chasing a deeper purpose beyond the kitchen.   On this episode of The Jeremiah Show, Jeremiah sits down with Chef Dom Crisp, the chef behind Dom’s Taverna in Santa Barbara. Raised on a farm in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Dom learned early to respect the land — a mindset that still guides his cooking today. He shares his journey from early kitchen days cooking through France, where he embraced a style built on Basque cooking: simplicity, seasonality, and great ingredients. Now in Santa Barbara, Dom is building a restaurant rooted in local seafood, live-fire cooking, and a high-energy dining experience that brings people together. At the center of it all is something personal — how becoming a father reshaped his priorities, and why he wants to be known not just as a great chef, but as a good dad.   Dom’s Taverna Dom’s Instagram   CHAPTERS 00:00 The Roots of Culinary Passion 06:01 Lessons from the Land 11:39 The Influence of Community and Family 17:36 The Importance of Shared Meals 22:33 Culinary Journeys and Cultural Influences 28:32 Defining Legacy and Community Impact 37:12 The Legacy of Garappa's Cheesecake 38:22 Meet the Partners Behind Dom's Taverna 38:34 Exploring the History of Dom's Taverna 40:54 Designing the Space: A Culinary Vision 43:21 Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere 46:38 The Role of Youthful Energy in Service 48:15 The Morning Buzz: Restaurant Preparations 49:23 The Evening Vibe: A Lively Dining Experience 51:43 Crafting an Authentic Basque Menu 55:39 The Jasper Oven: A Culinary Game Changer 57:30 Designing Dishes for Connection 01:01:23 Upcoming Events and Collaborations at Dom's Taverna   THE JEREMIAH SHOW IS POP CULTURE, MUSIC ICONS, & FOOD GODS   Catch Up With Past Shows and Your Favorite Guests - TJS MEDIA LIBRARY   Partner with The Jeremiah Show  BRAND PARTNER DECK   The Jeremiah Show is brought to you by Evolve Entertainment Network  www.thejeremiahshow.com https://radio-evolve.rocks   Host | Executive Producer - Jeremiah D.
