The Koz Effect

On this week's supersized episode, the panel of libertarian Carl Kozlowski, liberal black guy Tymon Shipp, right wing attack dog Ari David and liberal news joke guy Dr. David Robinson all team up to discuss the Pope's visit, the jerk in the pharmaceutical industry who jacked up an AIDS drug's price by 5000 percent, John Boehner's mystery resignation, and yes, Planned parenthood . You won't believe we just said this stuff!  

The whole gang is in the house, plus a rant from five-time Emmy nominated comedy legend Will Durst, as they took on the 2nd Republican debate, the Rise of Carly, the precarious position of Trump, and the Muslim kid in Texas who got arrested for making a clock that looked like a bomb (How do you KNOW what a bomb looks like?!" asks Dr. David).

Actor David Oyelowo may be British, but he's taking on some diehard American roles these days.. His stirring portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King helped lead the movie "Selma" to a Best Picture nomination last year, but now he's the star of "Captive," a stirring new true-life drama about a troubled man who shot his way out of jail and a trial and wound up kidnapping a female meth addict, only to find that they helped each other live better through their ordeal and shared experience with the faith-based book "The Purpose-Driven Life," He joins Koz for a conversation about what drives his choices, his own deeply Christian faith and how he manages to enter and leave the mindset of a killer in a healthy way for his role. In this very special episode, We explore the horrific on-air shootings of the Virginia news crew, the mysterious death of the Justin Bieber clone (the guy who paid $100K to look like Bieber), what it all means in terms of fame and narcissism, mental health and gun culture in the US, plus we look back at the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. 

The guys take on Jared from Subway, Gene Simmons, and Josh Duggar all being convicted of, investigated for, or admitting they're pervs. Plus Hillary's got some 'splainin to do! And of course the weekly Will Durst rant and Dr. Dave's awesome news jokes.

Craig Robinson is not only one of the hottest comics in America - selling out clubs nationwide, as well as starring in hit movies like 'This is The End,"- he's also the star of NBC's new hit summer sitcom "Mr. Robinson." He's also a friend of Koz dating back to their earliest days in standup comedy back in 1996 Chicago. With the new show on the airwaves, Craig took some time from his busy schedule working a Denver club weekend to talk with Koz about the whole glorious ride and the hard work that made it happen. 

Koz goes crazy with excitement, talking to his favorite singer/songwriter ever (well, maybe next to Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, who he's Kozversationed twice in the past). The creator of the landmark 1992 album "Girlfriend," which was named one of the 100 best albums of the '90s by Rolling Stone, Sweet went on to unleash one classic platter after another with "Altered Beast," "100% Fun" and "In Reverse" before spending the past decade expanding his artistic horizons as part of the vocal supergroup The Thorns and three amazing duet albums with Susanna Hoffs as the "Under the Covers" series. He's about to release another album, and he took the time to talk with Koz about the stories behind the music, his creative process, the rollercoaster career of a rocker and his passionate devotion to the paintings of Margaret Keane and her "Big Eyes" body of work. This is one hell of a Kozversation!

This week's show starts off with 5-time Emmy-nominated comedy legend Will Durst on the phone, helping us tee off on the World's Most Ubiquitous Man: Donald Trump, and his shockingly meteoric rise to the top of presidential polls despite his seemingly racist comments about Mexicans and illegal immigrants. We get into that and lowering the Confederate flag in South Carolina, leading to an hour of compelling fireworks worthy of the 4th of July!  

Kevin Allison was a member of The State - a comedy troupe that helped redefine comedy in the 1990s, alongside the likes of "Mr. Show" and "The Ben Stiller Show." They had 11 members, many of whom continue to power American comedy through the creation of "Reno 911," "Viva Variety!", the "Night at the Museum" films, and cult hits like "Wet Hot American Summer." But Allison had his own unique niche in the troupe, as he came out as gay right from the beginning of their shot at success, in 1994 - more than two decades before marriage equality was achieved. Allison invited Koz over to his New York City apartment while Koz was in the Big Apple on other Radio Titans business, and this terrific Kozversation is the result.

One of the longest-running and best-loved stars of ABC's "The View," Shepherd has also had a great career as a comic, actress and even author. She also sells out clubs nationwide, and she took time from her busy schedule to talk about it all with Koz, along with plenty of behind the scenes scoop on "The View" and some surprising stories about Rosie O'Donnell.

Koz takes an info-packed ten with the legendary director of such horror-comedy gems as "Gremlins," "Innerspace," "Matinee" and "Small Soldiers," as he marks the release of his new indie gem, "Burying the Ex." They talk about the state of horror today, how Dante built his trademark mix of horror and comedy, and the surprising longevity of "The Burbs." Tune in if you love movies!

The Yes Men are activist pranksters who have spent the past two decades disrupting and embarrassing some of the largest corporations and globalist organization on earth. They've also had three hilarious documentaries made about their work, with the latest, "The Yes Men Are Revolting," opening this month. One of the Yes Men, "Andy Bichlbaum," (they use aliases) explained the manic magic behind their successes  in this Kozversation.

The gang takes on another week of bad news, with hilarious riffs on OJ Simpson, the ridiculous abuses in the justice system, out of control taxes and more in a freewheeling and funny episode that will get you thinking, talking and most of all laughing! 

The panel takes on the Duggar “19 Kids and Counting” molestation scandal, the minimum wage and how corporations keep screwing us over.

William Turner is a fascinating yet regular man who has written his debut novel, "A Murder in Our Midst," which ties together a killing and the impact it has on a lifelong friendship. He talks with Koz about what inspired him to write the book, as well as his own dramatic life story in which he almost became a Catholic priest and has wrestled with guilt over his decision not to join ever since. A truly intriguing interview.

Greg Proops. ANDREW NICCOL - One of the world's most distinctive filmmakers, Andrew Niccol emerged from the world of commercial directing to write the 1998 classic movie "The Truman Show" before writing and directing a string of visionary films about technology and war and their effect on our humanity, including "Gattaca" (Koz's favorite scifi film ever), "Lord of War," "SimOne", "In Time" and his latest, "Good Kill," starring Ethan Hawke as a US drone pilot and the devastating psychological effects of this seemingly safer form of warfare. He spoke with Koz about his career, the causes that drive his work and the dangers of drone warfare.

Koz talks to his favorite rock singer ever, Joie Blaney aka Dead Blonde Girlfriend about his impending major surgery and the changes it has brought to his life and creative process. 

It was the same day as Mayweather-Pacquaio fight, but the REAL battle took place at Radio Titans studio between one of our longtime liberals, Dr. David Robinson, and one of America's top and most daring conservative comics, Evan Sayet. They engaged in a battle royale of jokes and arguing that made Koz actually stop the show for a palate-cleansing and very funny rant from Will Durst. Covering everything from Baltimore to Bernie Sanders, this one was a knockout!

Bruce Jenner came out as a woman, and America tuned in to see the results - and the gang at Koz Effect are here to talk about it and all the issues it entails! Well, that and the insane police brutality in Baltimore. You'd never expect it, but we tie those issues together and find a way to make them both meaningful AND funny! Dr. David Robinson had a joke in “The Week We Were” that made Koz turn purple with   laughter, Dr. David also admitted for the first time ever that Reagan was right (well, once, according to him), Ari went down the “why Ted’s not a thug” checklist, and Ted actually agreed with Ari about the need to control our borders, but just differed on how. Julia Fairlight has a big booming soulful voice that carries on the tradition of Janis Joplin, and she also goes old school in her music's production values with a Wall of Sound approach (courtesy of producer Andrew Monheim, musical director of Radio Titans' "Pajama Party"). She has also overcome an eating disorder and addictions, coming out the other side with a strongly inspirational point of view and boisterously joyful music. Her debut CD "Midnight Muse" is a blast of fun fresh air, and she brought that energy to this Kozversation.!

We never actually got around to debating the week's news, because instead panelists Tymon Shipp, Ari David, Dr. David Robinson, 5 time Emmy nominee Will Durst and host Carl Kozlowski wound up arguing about Ted Cruz, teacher salaries, unions, climate change and the Iranian attempts for a nuclear bomb. With a fresh batch of Robinson news jokes and a great rant from Durst, this is one episode you can't miss!!!

We have another walkout, as conservative panelist Larry Meyers hung up and quit before we even got through Dr. David Robinson’s “The Week We Were” news jokes. But Koz, Tymon and Dave still had fun expressing outrage over Oklahoma’s racist frat brothers and their bizarre house mother’s use of the “N word” while rapping along to a song, all sorts of other racist issues, and then to frightening new GOP Sen. Tom Cotton’s open letter to the Iranian government stating that Congress could interfere or shut down the country’s current nuclear negotiations, when in fact, they really aren’t allowed. A very funny episode filled with humorous outrage!

Koz says Mahalo! to the King of Podcasting, in this special episode recorded AT Carolla's Glendale-based media empire. They talk about Carolla's new move ROAD HARD, and the world of standup comedy and life on the road, plus a walk through some of the more outrageous moments of his career and whether PC-ness is killing American speech again

T. Sean Shannon - This guy from Texas went to the Mt. Everest of Comedy- "SNL" - for eight years as a writer from 1998- 2006 (aka The Will Ferrell/Tracy Morgan years). He now makes movies, but in the wake of SNL 40, he sat down with Koz to dish on all sorts of fascinating stories from his time on the show, along with sharing hilarious stories from the time he and Fred Willard freaked out an elevator full of tourists at the Roman Colosseum!
