In my masters program research, I've encountered a new-to-me term: the window of tolerance. Basically, this refers to the zone of awakening or passion in which we are able to function most effectively. Low key, it's about emotional regulation.The window is smooshed between hypo-arousal and hyper-arousal:* Hypo-arousal: shut down, numb, depressed, withdrawn, shame, passive* Hyper-arousal: high energy, anxiety, anger, chaotic, hyper-vigilant, overwhelmedThe goal is, ultimately, to widen the window of tolerance so you can experience a range of emotions while continuing to live your life.
