Why Am I Saying ‘What?’ More? Hearing & Hormones in Midlife
Lately, you might be noticing small things… You’re asking people to repeat themselves. Restaurants feel louder than they used to. You leave conversations feeling more drained than connected. Or maybe there’s a subtle ringing, buzzing, or just an “off” feeling you can’t quite explain. And you’re wondering… Is this just normal? Or is something actually going on? In this episode, I’m joined by my longtime friend and audiologist, Dr. Rhee Nesson of Hearing Doctors of New Jersey, to talk about something we don’t often connect to this chapter of life: hearing health. It’s about understanding the subtle shifts happening in your body and knowing what to do next. We talk about: Why hearing changes are often so gradual you don’t notice them at first The connection between hearing, brain health, and mental load How perimenopause and menopause can show up in ways like ringing in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness, or sensitivity to noise Why feeling overwhelmed or exhausted in social settings might not just be “in your head” The emotional side of it — confidence, connection, and how you show up in conversations What it actually looks like to get a baseline and be proactive without spiraling Because this isn’t just about hearing. It’s about how you move through your life. How you connect with people. How you feel in your own body. And if something feels off, you don’t have to ignore it. Resources + Connect with Dr. Rhee Nesson If you’re experiencing ringing, buzzing, or changes in your hearing, this is a helpful place to start: https://hearingdoctorsofnj.com/tinnitus-during-menopause-what-women-need-to-know/ For more comprehensive tinnitus support and treatment options: https://tinnitusdoctorsofnj.com/ Explore hearing health resources or schedule an evaluation with Dr. Rhee Nesson and her team at Hearing Doctors of New Jersey: https://hearingdoctorsofnj.com/ Follow along on Social: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hearingdoctorsofnj/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hearingdoctorsofnj/ If this resonated… If you’re noticing changes — physically, emotionally, or just that sense of “something feels different” — this is exactly the space I support women through. Not just what is happening… but how to process it, understand it, and move forward without feeling stuck in it. Because sometimes it’s not one big thing. It’s a lot of small shifts happening all at once. And having someone to talk it through with changes everything. The Year That Changes You: Navigating the Messy Middle
One year ago, I was sitting in a parking lot when I got the call that would change my life. But this episode isn’t just about that moment. It’s about what happens after. What a year like that teaches you. And why this conversation matters even if you haven’t faced a diagnosis like mine. Because most of us will go through a year that changes us. A year where life splits into before and after. A year where something happens that we didn’t plan, didn’t want, and didn’t see coming. In this solo episode, I’m reflecting on the past year and sharing the questions I’ve been asking myself: What do I know now that I wish I had known then? What does the one-year mark actually mean? What did I get wrong about how hard this would be? And what does it look like to keep living while going through something hard? I talk about the part no one really sees. The invisible part. The part where you look fine on the outside but are carrying so much on the inside. And I share what actually helped me navigate this messy middle. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. This episode is not just about cancer. It’s about identity, resilience, community, and what it means to move through something hard and still find yourself on the other side. If This Episode Resonated: If you’re in your own version of a messy middle right now, you’re not alone. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to keep moving forward. Planning Ahead Without Panic: Understanding Long-Term Care with Suzanne Scheer, J.D., CLTC®
Most women in their 40s and 50s don’t think about long-term care—until they’re suddenly forced to. In this episode of The Next ChaptHER Podcast, Andrea Hecht sits down with Suzanne Scheer, J.D., CLTC®, to unpack what long-term care actually is, why it matters, and why waiting until a crisis hits can leave families overwhelmed—emotionally, logistically, and financially. Suzanne’s passion for this work is deeply personal. As part of the sandwich generation, she spent years caring for her parents through extended illnesses while raising her own young child. That experience opened her eyes to what families go through when there isn’t a clear plan in place—and why education before a crisis is so critical. Together, Andrea and Suzanne break down long-term care in simple, human language—without fear-mongering or pressure—so women can make informed decisions that protect both their future selves and the people they love. In This Episode, We Cover: What long-term care really means (and what it does not) Why Medicare and health insurance don’t cover custodial care Common misconceptions that keep women from planning ahead Why long-term care isn’t just about aging—it can happen at any age The different types of care: home care, assisted living, memory care, and more Traditional long-term care insurance vs. newer hybrid/asset-based options How health history and timing affect eligibility Why planning ahead gives you choice—not panic How proactive planning can reduce emotional and financial strain on families Key Takeaways: Long-term care covers custodial care—help with daily activities—not medical treatment Medicare offers only limited, short-term rehab coverage Planning earlier often means more flexibility, better options, and less stress Newer long-term care products can provide value even if care is never needed The goal isn’t just financial protection—it’s dignity, autonomy, and family peace About the Guest: Suzanne Scheer, J.D., CLTC® is a long-term care specialist who helps individuals and families plan proactively—before they’re in crisis. She is known for her clear, compassionate approach and specializes exclusively in long-term care education and planning. 🔗 Website: https://www.sgsinsurance.net 🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/suzannescheer/ 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/suzannescheer_jd_cltc/ 💻 Upcoming Webinar: “Understanding Long-Term Care Insurance” will be on February 19th at Noon EST. Protect the Feeling: The Camera Roll Exercise for Real End-of-Year Clarity
Before we step into the rush of December — the events, expectations, emotions, and everything extra — this episode invites you to slow down and take a breath. Today, Andrea walks you through one of the most clarity-creating exercises she uses with clients and inside her Circle groups: choosing a feeling you want to protect and then using your camera roll or calendar as a truth-telling inventory to understand what supports that feeling… and what drains it. This isn’t about resolutions, reinventions, or “new year, new me.” It’s about recognizing a feeling that already lives in you — even if it shows up inconsistently — and learning how to protect it as you move into your next chapter. Inside this episode, Andrea shares: Why choosing one anchor feeling is far more powerful than setting a dozen goals How your camera roll and calendar reveal the real story of your year The three buckets that help you see your wins, your drains, and your clues How patterns point directly to what needs to be protected, released, or re-aligned Why boundaries hide in your calendar How Andrea’s own year — including breast cancer, recovery, healing, recalibration — led her to choose strength as her feeling to protect This episode is part grounding, part practical exercise, and part invitation to choose differently before January arrives. What You’ll Learn How to identify the feeling that anchors you What your camera roll and planner reveal about your lived experience How to gather data about your life without judgment How small smile moments and forgotten wins show you what supports you Why repeated drains show you exactly where boundaries are needed A simple, powerful framework to step into December with intention Try the Exercise for Yourself Download the step-by-step reflection guide here. If This Episode Helped… Share it with a friend who might need a moment of clarity before the holidays hit. You never know who needs an anchor feeling right now. When Life Cracks You Open: Rewriting Your Inner Playlist with Cara Lockwood
There are moments in life that stop you cold — the ones you didn’t schedule, didn’t plan for, and definitely didn’t see coming. The kinds of moments that crack you open and force you to see yourself, your life, and your inner voice through an entirely different lens. In today’s episode, I’m joined by USA Today bestselling author Cara Lockwood, whose newest book, There’s No Good Book for This (But I Wrote One Anyway), brings humor and raw honesty to the chapter of her life that changed everything: her breast cancer journey. But our conversation goes far beyond illness. This episode is about mindset, self-talk, and the negative playlist so many women carry without even realizing it. It’s about what happens when life throws a curveball big enough to make you finally hear that inner soundtrack — and the turning point that comes when you decide to rewrite it. Cara and I dive into reframing old narratives, challenging the stories we’ve absorbed over the years, why asking for help is actually a strength, and what it means to take back control of the pen as you write your next chapter. Whether you’re currently navigating a heavy season or simply feeling stretched thin, this conversation is your reminder that you are stronger than you think… and you deserve the same grace you so freely give to everyone else. Even in the Sticky Moments, Joy Is Still a Choice
The past few weeks have been full of “full-circle” moments for me — from hosting my very first Next ChaptHER Connect event, Courage & Caramels, to speaking at a Pink Babka Bake in front of the most incredible group of women. Both experiences reminded me what this community is truly about: connection, conversation, and choosing happiness even when life feels sticky. In this heartfelt episode, I share the reflections, mindset shifts, and stories from both events, including what I’ve learned throughout my seven-month breast cancer journey about how to stay grounded, use humor and gratitude to heal, and reach for those rose-colored glasses even when they’re foggy. If you’re walking through something hard or just trying to find your footing again, this episode is for you. You’ll hear how small mindset shifts, community, and a willingness to laugh (even in the hospital gown moments) can help you rediscover your strength and your joy. 🌸 In This Episode, We’ll Talk About: The real story behind Courage & Caramels and what inspired it How humor and gratitude became my healing tools Why “being strong” doesn’t mean pretending everything’s fine How to keep your brain “online” when life feels chaotic The power of faith, friendship, and letting yourself be seen How to ask for — and receive — help without guilt Why misery and happiness are both choices The role the community plays in helping us find joy again 💬 One Takeaway to Remember: “Even when life gets sticky, there’s always sweetness if you’re willing to look for it.” ✨ Connect & Continue the Conversation If today’s episode resonated with you, please take a moment to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another woman who might need this reminder. REPLAY- Rose Colored Glasses: The Road to Happiness with Samantha Kestin
It’s been a season of slowing down and healing after my reconstruction surgery on October 6th, and at my recent follow-up, my doctors said the words “you’re healing beautifully.” Those words instantly lifted my spirits and reminded me how much happiness comes from choosing to notice the good, even in the messy middle. So this week, I’m replaying one of my very first and most joyful conversations — my chat with Samantha Kestin, the creative heart behind Sweet Samantha. Samantha lives by her grandfather’s advice: “When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.” In this episode, we talk about what it really means to find happiness, create sweetness, and keep following the road back to joy. It feels extra special to revisit this one because Samantha is joining me today for my first live Next ChaptHER Connect event — Courage & Caramels: Finding Happiness Even When Life Feels Sticky. Do the Next New Thing with Pam Lamp: Finding Courage, Connection, and Your Next Chapter
This week on The Next ChaptHER Podcast, I sit down with Pam Lamp, author of Do the Next New Thing, for a heartfelt and inspiring conversation about what it really means to step into the unknown and create your next chapter. This episode is extra special—it’s my first guest conversation back since my breast cancer diagnosis. Pam’s story felt like the perfect way to return. Her journey began in a season of uncertainty—relocating to a new city, feeling isolated, and wondering what’s next? Instead of staying stuck, she committed to doing one new thing every single day. What started as small daily steps turned into a transformative project that shifted her mindset, created connection, and sparked a book, blog, and podcast of her own. In this episode, we talk about: ✨ Why so many of us feel “frozen” when asking what’s next?—and how to unstick yourself ✨ The power of small, intentional daily actions and how they rewire your brain ✨ Practical ideas for starting your own “next new thing” list (without breaking the bank) ✨ How letting go of perfection and outcome opens the door to fun, growth, and connection ✨ Pam’s surprising stories (including her unforgettable police ride-along!) ✨ Why your happiness and purpose don’t always have to be tied to a paycheck Whether you’re navigating a life change, searching for purpose, or simply craving something new, Pam’s story will remind you that your next chapter starts with just one small step. 📖 Learn more about Pam and grab a copy of Do the Next New Thing 🎧 Check out her podcast Who I Met Today. 📲 Connect with Pam on Instagram @pamelalamp2. 👉 After listening, I’d love to hear from you—what’s YOUR “next new thing”? I Wore the Bathing Suit Anyway
In this episode of the Next Chapter Podcast, I share a personal story about a seemingly small moment—trying on bathing suits for my 20th wedding anniversary trip to the beach—that turned out to be a profound reminder about the power of showing up. It’s not about the bathing suit or how we look, but how we choose to feel in the moments that matter. I dive into how self-doubt and mental chatter can cloud our choices, but how mindset work can help us decide how we want to feel and what we want to embrace. If you’ve ever found yourself avoiding something you used to love because of how you think you look, this episode is for you. It’s a conversation about feeling present, reconnecting with who we are, and stepping into the next chapter of our lives with confidence, no matter where we’re at. Resources Mentioned: Substack: Read more about my Bathing Suit Moment and reflections on feeling like yourself in the current chapter. Lifestyle & Mindset Assessment: A tool to help you reconnect with how you want to feel mentally, emotionally, and energetically. Action Steps: Ask yourself: How do I want to feel, not how do I look? If you’ve been avoiding something you used to love, I challenge you to take the first step towards showing up—whether it’s a bathing suit, a pair of jeans, or something else. What It Really Means to Regulate (and Why It’s Not Just Breathing)
In this episode of The Next ChaptHER, I’m pulling back the curtain on what nervous system regulation really looks like — especially when you're walking through something hard in real time. Mindset matters — but it doesn’t work alone. To think clearly, stay grounded, and show up for yourself (and others) when life gets messy, you need tools that bring you back to your center in the moment — not just after the chaos ends. I’m sharing: What regulation actually means (spoiler: it's not just breathwork and candles) Unexpected ways I regulate in real life — from binge-watching to city walks What I did in the middle of a medical procedure to calm my nervous system Why regulation is about choosing your response — not controlling your emotions The one question I ask my clients (and myself) when everything feels like too much Whether you're navigating illness, burnout, parenting, recovery, or just regular life — this conversation is here to help you pause, reconnect, and come back to you. Mindset in the Messy Middle: How I’m Staying Grounded through Breast Cancer
Mindset isn’t about being strong all the time — it’s about staying present enough to choose your next step, even in the middle of the mess. Back in March, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In May, I had a double mastectomy. And as of today — I’m still healing. Still a patient. Still navigating all the physical, emotional, and mental layers of recovery. In this episode of The Next ChaptHER, I’m not speaking from the “other side.” I’m sharing the mindset tools I’m using right now — in real time — to stay grounded when my nervous system wants to spin out. This is for any woman navigating her own version of the messy middle — whether it’s health, identity, burnout, loss, or transition. You’ll hear: What it really looks like to regulate your mindset during uncertainty How I use music, breath, humor, and intentional rituals to stay grounded The difference between feeling your feelings vs. living in victim mode Why I start all my clients with the ELI Lifestyle & Mindset Assessment How mindset work doesn’t erase fear — it gives you tools to move through it Plus, I share real moments from my journey as I actively work to stay grounded and in control. What “I Don’t Have Time” Really Means (Time Series, Part 1)
If you’ve ever said, “I don’t have time,” this one’s for you. Ditch the Recipe: Trust Your Gut in the Kitchen & in Life with Melanie of Gather Culinary
"Perfectionism kills intuition. And as a former pastry chef who was a perfectionist, I always call myself a recovering perfectionist." – Melanie (09:49) Are You Stuck Following the Recipe—In the Kitchen and in Life? If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by cooking, labeled yourself “the worst cook,” or relied on strict rules and recipes just to get through dinner, this episode is about to change the way you think—not just about food, but about confidence, intuition, and self-trust. Cooking is one of the few things we do daily that engages all five senses—yet many of us feel stuck, insecure, or afraid to make mistakes. What if the kitchen could be a place of freedom instead of fear? This week, Andrea sits down with Melanie from Gather Culinary, a chef and culinary educator with nearly three decades of experience, to explore how breaking free from recipes can help you break free in life. They dive into why perfectionism is holding you back, how to trust your intuition when cooking, and how a simple mindset shift in the kitchen can spill over into other areas of your life. Plus, Melanie shares some eye-opening tricks—like why banana peel tea can help you sleep and how to train your senses to “hear” when food is ready. By the end of this episode, you’ll be ready to ditch the self-doubt, tap into your intuition, and cook (and live) with more confidence than ever before. Key Quotes: "If you tell yourself that story, your body hears you, your mind hears you, and it's like a little chip away every day. ‘I'm not good at this. I can't do it.’" – Melanie (01:27) "Your intuition isn’t about thinking harder. It's about creating space for the answers that are already there to emerge." – Melanie (22:03) "The kitchen is the perfect place to practice flexibility—because if you can pivot when your avocado isn’t ripe, you can pivot in life too." – Andrea (08:57) "If you taste something and don’t like it, ask yourself why. Cooking isn’t about getting it ‘right’—it’s about making it taste good to YOU." – Melanie (31:21) Resources & Links: 📌 Connect with Melanie Underwood & Gather Culinary: 🔗 Gather Culinary Website: https://www.gatherculinary.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatherculinary Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatherculinary 🔗 Chef Melanie Underwood: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chefmelanieunderwood Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chefmelanieunderwood Insight Timer: https://insighttimer.com/melanieunderwood 📌 Other Resources Mentioned: https://www.gatherculinary.com/post/guide-to-intuitive-baking https://www.gatherculinary.com/post/mindful-cooking-affirmations https://www.gatherculinary.com/post/mindful-cooking-nourishing-your-body-and-soul-in-the-kitchen 📌 Connect with Andrea Hecht: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: https://www.fullyinformedlife.com Feeling like life’s stuck on repeat with stress and doubt? Why Friendship Feels So Hard in Midlife—and What to Do About It with Nina Badzin
Friendship in midlife can feel unexpectedly hard. Why does it seem tougher to connect, and what can we do about it? Andrea Hecht sits down with Nina Badzin, a friendship expert who has spent years helping women navigate this stage of life. They unpack why old social circles may no longer fit, why assumptions about who’s available for friendship can hold us back, and why redefining what we expect from relationships might be the key to feeling more connected. From casual acquaintances to deep bonds, every relationship has a place. But how do you know when to nurture a friendship and when to let it go? Nina shares her perspective on making meaningful connections without overthinking every interaction. If midlife friendships feel more complicated than they should, this episode will help you see them in a new light. Quotes “You cannot make someone do friendship like you do.” (10:05 | Nina Badzin) “People make assumptions about how available others are. A lot of times they assume they’re not available for friendship because they seem really busy, they look really busy on social media, and we all know social media isn’t always what it seems.” (15:32 | Nina Badzin) “If you take your own social life into your hands, you will meet new people.” (18:09 | Nina Badzin) “It is impossible for everybody in a friend group to be equally close.” (40:24 | Nina Badzin) “I would just love to see people give other people as big of a break as we give ourselves.” (42:18 | Nina Badzin) Links Connect with Nina Badzin: Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship: https://ninabadzin.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dearninafriendship TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dearninafriendship Substack: https://dearnina.substack.com/ FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/855246118403712 Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: https://www.fullyinformedlife.com ✨ Join The Next ChaptHER Circle! ✨ A transformative space for women ready to connect, grow, and rediscover their joy. 👉 Sign up here and receive 30% savings:: The Next ChaptHER Circle https://the-next-chapther-circle.circle.so/checkout/the-next-chapther-circle-founding-annual-membership Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. The College Admissions Rollercoaster: Managing Emotions and Expectations
The college admissions process can feel like a whirlwind of stress, emotions, and endless comparisons, but does it have to? In this episode, Andrea Hecht sits down with Kelly Levi, a college admissions expert and mom of three, to unpack the emotional side of navigating college applications. From the pressures amplified by social media to the rising number of applications brought on by test-optional policies, Kelly explains why today’s admissions process feels more overwhelming than ever. She shares practical tips for parents to stay supportive without adding unnecessary pressure—like using digital tools for communication and setting clear boundaries to manage expectations. What if we reframed the college admissions journey as a chance for students to discover their strengths and families to grow closer? Kelly and Andrea explore this perspective, and offer strategies to focus on progress, celebrate milestones, and approach each step with intention. This episode serves as a guide for parents looking to balance their own emotions while empowering their kids to embrace this transformative chapter with confidence. Quotes “Focus on what you can do. Focus on your academic performance, your story, and we can talk about that and what that means. And embrace your friends and try to get through it together. Because pinning yourself against someone else is not gonna help anything.” (13:18 | Kelly Levi) “Instead of making it a competition, make it a celebration. Make it a celebration of this chapter of your life and this excitement. Again, you can control if you want to make it a miserable experience and add to the stress, or are we gonna make this as positive of an experience?” (14:44 | Andrea Hecht) “The whole point is that we’re here as parents to guide our kids and to support them. We only want to see the best for our kids in any of it. But what our best support looks like and what we think it might need to be could be completely different than what your child really wants.” (20:58 | Andrea Hecht) “When a rejection comes, it stings and it’s yucky, and it’s okay to feel crappy about it, but know that it will be okay.” (38:14 | Kelly Levi) “Plan ahead. I think that takes so much of the stress out of it. And obviously knowing when your due dates are is important, but having someone, and that does not have to be mom or dad, having someone kind of oversee those due dates from afar is really helpful.” (57:19 | Kelly Levi) Links Connect with Kelly Levi: The Write Stop http://www.thewritestopwithkelly.com Instagram:@kellykoeniglevi Have specific questions you’d like to ask Kelly, email her at [email protected] Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: https://www.fullyinformedlife.com ✨ Join The Next ChaptHER Circle! ✨ A transformative space for women ready to connect, grow, and rediscover their joy. 👉 Sign up here and receive 30% savings: The Next ChaptHER Circle https://the-next-chapther-circle.circle.so/checkout/the-next-chapther-circle-founding-annual-membership Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. I got to tell you, that really resonates. I say that to myself a lot. Nobody has it figured out. You can't know all the things, right? But you are strong at something. Feeling Stuck? How These Women Broke the Cycle and Rediscovered Joy
Feeling stuck in autopilot mode—showing up for everyone but yourself? As Andrea Hecht puts it, "When you're constantly giving everything to everyone else, like your family, your career, your friends, it's really easy to feel like you're disappeared from your own life." In this episode, Andrea shares her personal journey of rediscovery and introduces her "This Is Me" coaching framework, designed to help women reconnect with themselves, let go of limiting beliefs, and build lives that feel joyful and authentic. Through three inspiring client stories, Andrea highlights how small steps—like setting boundaries, releasing guilt, and reigniting forgotten passions—can lead to lasting transformation. These stories remind us that prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Andrea encourages listeners to reflect on where they might be giving too much of themselves and take one small step to reclaim their joy. Learn more about her lifestyle and mindset assessment and how it can help you find your roadmap back to yourself. Quotes "Midlife isn't a breakdown because it's really an opportunity for a breakthrough .But when you're constantly giving everything to everyone else, like your family, your career, your friends, it's really easy to feel like you're disappeared from your own life and forgetting to fill your own cup." (02:35 | Andrea Hecht) “Sometimes transformation isn't about fixing really what's broken. It's really about reigniting what's already inside of you. And that's a huge part of what I do with my clients. There's nothing wrong with anybody. Sometimes we just forget about the things that matter to us. And we need to kind of uncover that and spend some time working on that.”(13:42 | Andrea Hecht) "So really what I want you to ask yourself right now is to think where in your life are you constantly giving but feeling drained, that you're constantly giving to everyone else, but it's draining your energy?" (14:08 | Andrea Hecht) "If you're ready to rediscover yourself and release what's been holding you back, I really want you to start creating a life that feels bold, balanced, and joyful for you." The Loneliness Crisis: Why We Feel Disconnected and How to Rebuild Connection
Loneliness can linger even in the busiest rooms, but meaningful connections have the power to transform how we feel and thrive. As your host Andrea Hecht says, “Loneliness isn’t really about how many people are around you. It’s really about that quality of connections that we have.” In this episode, Andrea explores the often-overlooked issue of loneliness, especially among women in midlife, who may feel isolated despite living in an age of constant digital connectivity. Sharing her personal experiences, Andrea reflects on how surface-level relationships can leave us feeling unseen and how seeking deeper, value-driven connections can change everything. Andrea points out the importance of taking stock of current relationships, letting go of those that no longer serve us, and finding new communities where genuine bonds can form. Vulnerability and consistency are key in cultivating these meaningful connections. To support this journey, Andrea introduces the Next ChaptHER Circle—a community designed to help women in midlife feel truly seen and build relationships that matter. Learn more about it at https://fullyinformedlifecoaching.myflodesk.com/nextchapthercircle. Quotes “Loneliness doesn’t always look the way that we think it does. So you can be married and lonely. You can have a partner and be lonely. You can have a house full of kids and still feel disconnected. And you can be a part of a huge social circle. But guess what? You can still feel like no one truly knows or sees you.” (03:37 | Andrea Hecht) “Loneliness isn’t really about how many people are around you. It’s really about that quality of connections that we have.” (04:05 | Andrea Hecht) “Where in your life do you feel most connected right now? And where can you start to build that up? And where do you feel really disconnected? And then what’s one small step you can take this week to deepen your connections?” (13:47 | Andrea Hecht) “Connection doesn’t really have to be complicated. Sometimes it just starts with that single conversation or that small act of vulnerability and reaching out. So, if you’ve really been craving connection, I want you to know that it's possible to find.” (15:03 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram: @fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: fullyinformedlife.com Join The Next ChaptHER Circle! The $1 a day shift: Why Investing in Yourself is a game-changer
“What if you spent just $1 a day on yourself an entire year?” Your host, Andrea Hecht, starts this episode with this question. What could that dollar add up to—clarity, confidence, connection, or even joy? In this episode, Andrea challenges the common hesitation many women feel about investing in themselves. How come we spend so easily on others but second-guess even small acts of self-care? She explains how this mindset sends the wrong message to ourselves and those around us: that our needs are optional. Andrea shares her own journey of overcoming guilt and shifting her priorities to include personal growth. She then introduces The Next ChaptHER Circle, a space designed for women to reconnect with their purpose, build meaningful relationships, and access tools for thriving in every stage of life. Could one small shift—like a dollar a day—be the key to stepping into your next chapter with confidence and joy? Andrea invites you to find out by joining the waitlist and making yourself a priority. Sign up for the waitlist here: https://fullyinformedlifecoaching.myflodesk.com/nextchapthercircle Quotes “The hard truth is when you hesitate to invest in yourself, whether it’s that time, whether it’s money or it’s just energy spent on yourself, you’re sending yourself a huge fat message and those around you that you don’t matter, that your needs don’t matter, your dreams don’t matter, your wellbeing doesn’t matter, and that it’s just optional.” (04:38 | Andrea Hecht) “It’s not about that money; it’s more about ‘What does it represent?’ For that dollar, you’re actually telling yourself every single day that you are worth it. And it’s important to send yourself that message and say, ‘I am worth it. I am valuable, and I should be spending time on myself.’ That dollar isn’t just about a present for yourself. It’s actually an investment in your future self. So, we’re investing in our growth. We’re investing in our self-worth.” (09:17 | Andrea Hecht) “You are worth it. You deserve to feel joyful, confident, and connected. You deserve a space that’s just for you—a space where you can grow, dream, and step into your next chapter with confidence, surrounded by women who are cheering you on. And guess what? It all starts with just a dollar a day and saying, ‘Yes, I am worth it.’” (15:24 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram: @fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: fullyinformedlife.com Feeling like life’s stuck on repeat with stress and doubt? Manifesting Confidence: Creating the Life You Want at Any Stage with Emmie Levy
“When you’re kind and do a kind gesture for a friend, it makes you feel good. When you feel good, you feel confident about yourself. When you do something kind for someone else, they feel good, become confident, and want to pass on that kindness. It creates a chain reaction of kindness, spreading positivity. That’s what I hope to do with the Emmie Effect—affecting the world in a very positive way.” Emmie Levy, the creator of the Emmie Effect, joins Andrea Hecht in this episode to share her journey from education major to Super Bowl halftime dancer, proving that confidence and persistence can lead to extraordinary outcomes. As a confidence and manifestation coach, Emmie explains how tools like journaling and affirmations can shift your mindset, clarify your goals, and empower you to overcome challenges. Emmie’s story shows the power of belief paired with action. Whether you’re rewriting your story or moving on to the next chaptHER, join Emmie and Andrea’s conversation for actionable tools and encouragement to help you build confidence and create a purposeful life—at any stage! Quotes “Anyone can benefit from confidence and the tools of manifesting. I wanted to share this because I believe it’s so important. When you manifest something, think about your dreams and goals, and put them into the universe, they can come true. Just like my own dreams came true when I danced in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.” (04:37 | Emmie Levy) “It’s important to understand that the skills you have go with you. It also takes confidence—believing in and understanding yourself—to make these pivots. And it’s okay to make them. Reclaim Your Style: How to Rewrite Your Closet Story in Midlife with Laura P. Barker
“When you curate—starting with your closet, which is always ever-evolving—and continue to let go while bringing things in with intention, you become more aligned,” says Laura P. Barker, a closet curator and personal stylist helping women over 40 redefine their style narratives. Laura joins Andrea Hecht and invites us to see our closets as more than just a place for clothes. Does your wardrobe truly reflect the person you are today? Instead of clinging to outdated styles or beliefs about what “works” for you, Laura encourages a fresh approach—one that’s about letting go of what no longer serves you and making space for pieces that feel genuine. She shares insights on moving past limiting beliefs around body image and size and reminds listeners that style can be freeing when it’s rooted in personal comfort and confidence, not trends. Through her thoughtful approach, Laura shares practical tips for building a wardrobe that resonates with your life right now. This episode is a reminder that style isn’t about fitting into someone else’s idea of what looks good; it’s about wearing what makes you feel true to yourself. Quotes “When we think about those stories we tell ourselves, we try to let go of them. We push ourselves to open up and ask, ‘What would we really want to do? How would we really want to feel?’ Then we start experimenting and let ourselves go in that direction. That’s when you can feel truly aligned and like yourself, so you can do all the things. And what better time to do that than in midlife?” (10:17 | Laura P. Barker) “When you curate—starting with your closet, which is always ever-evolving—and continue to let go while bringing things in with intention, you become more aligned. Your closet and your clothes become a reflection of who you are.” (18:09 | Laura P. Barker) “Midlife is the perfect time to rewrite your style story. Just like life evolves, so does our personal style. This is the moment to shed outdated narratives, challenge old beliefs, and embrace fashion that reflects who you are becoming. You don’t need to fit into someone else’s idea of style—you get to write the rules and define it for yourself.” (55:36 | Andrea Hecht) Connect with Laura P Barker: Website: https://www.laurapbarker.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurapbarker/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurapbarker/ Resources: Embracing Change in Your Body and Style in Midlife: https://www.laurapbarker.com/curatedandstyledblog/embracing-change-in-your-body-and-style-in-midlife-tx3de How an edit helps tell the story of who you are today: https://www.laurapbarker.com/curatedandstyledblog/whyanedithelpstellyourstory Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Website: https://www.fullyinformedlife.com Feeling like life’s stuck on repeat with stress and doubt? In this episode, she invites women in midlife to rethink what fulfillment truly means. Is it about the titles you hold, the success you’re chasing, or is it something deeper? Drawing from her journey of stepping away from a corporate career and redefining her purpose, Andrea shares practical steps to help you reconnect with what lights you up. From rekindling old passions to practicing mindfulness, giving back, and investing in personal growth, she breaks down how you can create a life that feels truly meaningful. It’s not about what the world sees, but it’s really what feels right for us inside.” (08:47 | Andrea Hecht) “You’re never too old to learn something new or to invest in your own happiness.” (15:27 | Andrea Hecht) “Fulfillment isn’t about what you do for a living. Rekindling Passion: Navigating Intimacy & Desire in Midlife with Rachael Goodman
“The biggest misconception is, ‘Oh my God, I hit 40, and I’m done. My time is over. I peaked in my 20s.’ But that’s completely wrong—a total misconception. The best is yet to come,” says Rachael Goodman, a registered psychotherapist and certified sex and couples counselor at Level Up, who specializes in intimacy and sexual relationships for women in midlife. In this episode, she joins Andrea Hecht to talk about how intimacy evolves as we age, exploring shifts in libido, body image, and emotional connection. Rachael points out how open communication is essential to keeping a relationship fulfilling. She explains that intimacy is not just about the physical—it’s about emotional closeness and understanding, too. What can couples do to keep that connection strong? Rachael shares actionable tips, from trying new ways to connect intimately to fostering an environment that encourages closeness and trust. Rachael and Andrea encourage listeners to embrace their sexuality and recognize that intimacy, when nurtured, continues to evolve and grow. Tune in to be reminded of how midlife can be a time for deeper connection and greater pleasure! Quotes “We want to enjoy ourselves, and part of that is pleasure. The women I typically work with have often lost themselves and want to rediscover who they are beyond motherhood or who they were in the past. That journey involves understanding their pleasure points, which may have changed over time. And those changes can happen because our bodies are changing.” (05:53 | Andrea Hecht) “The reality is, as individuals and as couples, we often talk about our finances, our careers, or what’s happening in our day-to-day, but we rarely take the time to talk about sex—what we want, what’s happening, how it’s making us feel, or what we’re missing.” (07:19 | Rachael Goodman) “The biggest misconception is, ‘Oh my God, I hit 40, and I’m done. 3-Part Series of A Pediatrician's Perspective: Part 3: Role Models in the Digital Age: Guiding Teens to Healthy Influences
“With social media, influencers are now at the forefront of who our teens look up to. But how do we, as parents, help them discern which influencers are worthy of their admiration, especially in a world where AI can create perfect yet unrealistic personas?” Andrea Hecht raises this question in the final episode of the series “A Pediatrician's Perspective.” With Dr. Lisa Klein, they talk about the challenge of helping teens navigate a digital landscape where appearance often overshadows authenticity. They explore the difference between influencers who push superficial values and those who stand for resilience, hard work, and real passion. Dr. Klein stresses the need of helping teens focus on role models who inspire through character and meaningful accomplishments—not just looks. How can parents initiate these conversations? Andrea and Dr. Klein offer helpful strategies for parents to help guide their teens toward influencers who will positively impact their development in the digital age by promoting open conversations and educating them to think critically about the content they consume. Quotes “Let’s start by being excellent role models ourselves and being honest and vulnerable with our tweens and teens about how we have awesome, confident days, but also days where we’re feeling kind of insecure—and that’s okay. We’re not robots; we feel things. We’re not perfect. So, let’s be good role models by finding good role models for ourselves at our age, and then helping our kids find who could be good role models for them.” (03:19 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “It starts with us, understanding that we need to make sure we are following proper role models. We all know we’re guilty of putting on a quick filter or taking a picture and then deleting it, but we need to have those conversations… Sometimes these kids don’t understand that the people they’re following aren’t necessarily targeting children or considering what those children might think of them.” (05:44 | Andrea Hecht) “It’s just good to follow people with passions, hobbies, and honesty. And yeah, the fun stuff is there too, as long as you stay in the mindset that, okay, I’ll take it for what it’s worth, but no one’s life is perfect, happy, and sunshine all the time.” (07:29 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “Be real, be raw, don't use filters to change your appearance. Filter who you follow, filter the information coming at you. Is it real? Is it fake?” (12:10 | Dr. Lisa Klein) Links Connect with Dr. Lisa Klein: Website: https://www.turningteen.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turningteen Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/turningteen Resources: Follow Olympic Medalist Ilona Maher on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ilonamaher Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. 3-Part Series of A Pediatrician's Perspective: Part 2: Teen Skincare: Separating Facts from Fads
“The young tween girls today want skincare as birthday gifts at their parties. That’s all they want: skincare, skincare, skincare,” says Dr. Lisa Klein. “This is a problem. It’s the latest craze, and it’s not okay. It’s not just about wasting money; these kids are damaging their skin.” In this episode, part two of “A Pediatrician’s Perspective” series, Andrea Hecht and Dr. Klein talk about the rise of teen skincare trends driven by social media. Dr. Klein warns against using harsh products that can cause more harm than good and emphasizes the value of simple, age-appropriate routines for sensitive teen skin. She encourages open conversations between parents and teens about skincare choices and promotes a holistic approach to skin health, reminding us that what we put on our skin affects the entire body. Quotes “We have to be more educated and knowledgeable about what’s in our products, and understand that children’s skin is different from adult skin. Kids have healthy, sensitive skin that doesn’t need much.” (03:37 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “I’m not shaming parents—I hear you. I’m a mom. Parenting is not for the weak. We want our kids to have fun and be part of fun trends. And you can have safe, fun skincare. You can have multiple products, but they should be multiple safe products.” (05:19 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “Let’s create good habits. Let’s not believe everything we see on social media. Just like with everything else we teach them about social media, not everyone looks like that—everything’s edited. Just because you hear something doesn’t mean it’s true. The same goes for skincare, so we have to be very careful.” (07:09 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “The key is simplification. It also involves having the conversation, educating your kids, and understanding that skincare is not just a toy—though I don’t know if ‘toy’ is the right word as they get older. I know my daughter enjoys doing ‘get ready with me’ and ‘get unready with me’ videos, and it becomes this whole thing where they do a haul of what they got. But we also need to make sure they’re using safe products.” (08:28 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with Dr. Lisa Klein: Website: https://www.turningteen.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turningteen Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/turningteen Resources: Follow Dr. Brooke Jeffy for additional information about all things skincare related on Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/brookejeffymd Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. 3-Part Series of A Pediatrician's Perspective: Part 1: Ick Pics: What to Do When Inappropriate Content Strikes
“We need to be able to have open conversations so they feel comfortable coming to us when they’re in a bad or an uncomfortable situation,” says returning guest Dr. Lisa Klein, a board-certified pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine and co-founder of Turning Teen. Andrea Hecht and Dr. Klein kick off their three-part series, "A Pediatrician’s Perspective” which aims to empower parents to engage in crucial conversations with their teens. This episode—part one of the series—dives into the sensitive but important topic of unsolicited or inappropriate images, referred to as “ick pics,” that teens could come across online. Dr. Klein emphasizes how important it is to have these conversations about consent and internet safety earlier than most parents would think. Having these talks with parents before issues emerge gives teenagers the confidence that they may approach them without worrying about being judged or punished. How can we foster this kind of open communication that empowers teens in today’s complex digital landscape? Andrea and Dr. Klein encourage maintaining calm, approachable communication that helps teens make better choices. Tune in to get practical tips for setting boundaries, building trust, and encouraging teens to speak up when they encounter something inappropriate online. Quotes “‘Ick pic’ is a picture of naked people, private parts, right? Anything inappropriate. And it’s not necessarily that you asked for it. A lot of times it’s accidental exposure or unsolicited receiving of it. And in a perfect world, we would talk about it with our kids before any of it happens, so we know what to do… My main messages are: shame-free, don’t embarrass them, don’t punish them. We need to be able to have open conversations so they feel comfortable coming to us when they’re in a bad or an uncomfortable situation.” (04:19 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “I think it’s really important that we take a deep breath. We need to understand that this is an uncomfortable conversation, and we need to be prepared. We must make sure not to shame anybody because that immediately shuts down the line of communication.” (06:30 | Andrea Hecht) “We need to be teaching our kids that private parts are private.” (08:39 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “We have to start talking to our kids early and often about every topic, including the ones that make us uncomfortable, like inappropriate pictures and pornography—what we see online, how to prevent it, and how to deal with it when it happens. So, stay calm, stay shame-free, and try to avoid embarrassment. Again, parents, use your resources. There are resources for all these things now available at your fingertips.” (15:52 | Dr. Lisa Klein) Links Connect with Dr. Lisa Klein: Website: https://www.turningteen.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turningteen Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/turningteen Additional resources to learn more about digital safety: https://www.protectyoungeyes.com Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Rediscovering Beauty: Expert Tips on Aging Gracefully with Dr. Julia Milman
“I am a very, very big proponent of less is more. I definitely do not think that it is necessary to use a 25-step skincare routine or do all sorts of injections or a million lasers, etc.,” says this week’s guest, Dr. Julia Milman, a board-certified physician and the owner and medical director of Dr. Julia Milman’s Aesthetic Medicine. In this episode, Dr. Milman discusses her practical advice for aging gracefully, supporting straightforward skincare practices over elaborate ones. She explains the effects of aging on the skin and offers helpful guidance on what matters most, such as utilizing products of the highest caliber and initiating preventative treatments when necessary. What’s the key to long-lasting results? Dr. Milman emphasizes the value of working with qualified professionals for aesthetic treatments, ensuring both safety and effectiveness. Her take: beauty and confidence can thrive with a “less is more” philosophy. Quotes “How many of us have looked in the mirror one day and realized we don’t quite recognize ourselves anymore, both from the inside and out? When we are on a journey of rediscovering our inner identity, I hear all the time how challenging it can feel when our external identity feels foreign too.” (01:57 | Andrea Hecht) “I am a very, very big proponent of less is more. I definitely do not think that it is necessary to use a 25-step skincare routine or do all sorts of injections or a million lasers, etc.” (12:04 | Dr. Julia Milman) “The way your skin looks is definitely a lot more important than any sort of injections… Things like Botox and other treatments are, of course, important if someone isn’t opposed to that kind of stuff, but skincare is definitely first.” (13:06 | Dr. Julia Milman) “Preventative Botox is key. Just like in any medical aspect, in any medical specialty, prevention is always better than needing to treat afterwards. So, that is an option for wrinkles for prevention and for treating as well.” (29:17 | Dr. Julia Milman) “Try not to succumb to the social media pressures and challenges. Do what feels right for you. Do not listen to anybody else. If looking at yourself in the mirror is something that’s bothersome to you and you’d like to treat it or you’d like to take care of something, go for it. But if you’re somebody who doesn’t want to do anything and who is happy the way that you are right now and would like to continue that, then do that.” (51:14 | Dr. Julia Milman) Links Connect with Dr. Julia Milman: https://www.drjuliamilman.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/julia.milman.md Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/julia.milman.md/ Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Embracing Change During the Back-to-School Season
“Back-to-school season isn’t just about the kids—it’s about us, too,” says Andrea Hecht. In this episode, she reminds us that this time of year brings new beginnings not only for children but also for parents. Sharing a nostalgic story from her own school days, Andrea reflects on the excitement and potential that come with this season. It’s the perfect moment for mothers to pause and consider how they can reset and rejuvenate their own lives alongside their children. To guide this process, Andrea introduces her RESET framework, a practical five-step tool designed to help women reconnect with joy and purpose. The steps—Release, Evaluate, Start Fresh, Energize, and Transform—invite women to let go of what no longer serves them, reassess their paths, embrace new opportunities, infuse their lives with fresh energy, and take real steps toward a more fulfilling life. Andrea’s message is clear: Change isn’t something to fear—it’s an opportunity for growth. Tune in to discover how this season can be your perfect chance to realign with your values, embrace new possibilities, and kickstart your own fresh chapter! Quotes “Back-to-school season isn’t just about the kids—it’s about us, too.” (02:35 | Andrea Hecht) “It took me back to thinking about when my kids started kindergarten and all those big milestones that mark the beginning of their educational journeys, and now as they face new challenges, I’m really inspired to see this season as a fresh start in my own life. Reflecting on the different life milestones, whether it’s your child’s first day of kindergarten, their first day of school, their transition to high school, or maybe they’re preparing for college, it can all feel like a whirlwind. So often, we’re juggling their schedules, their dreams, and we put ours on hold. But I want you to stop and think, what if we use this back-to-school season to support not just our kids, but also to support ourselves?” (06:23 | Andrea Hecht) “I encourage you to use this opportunity again to transform and to grow. This isn’t just about sending your kids back to school, but it’s really about giving yourself the chance to hit the reset button and refresh your own path. This is the perfect opportunity to do it. Whether you’re navigating the college prep situation with your kids, managing a hectic schedule, adjusting to becoming an empty nester, or maybe even starting a new job, now is really the perfect time to reset yourself and rediscover your journey back to you.” (14:01 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Mom Brain with Dr. Nicole Pensak
“Mothers really are the ultimate caregivers, and we don’t have enough support for mothers,” says Dr. Nicole Pensak, a licensed clinical psychologist and author of “Rattled: How to Calm New Mom Anxiety with the Power of the Postpartum Brain.” In this episode, she sits down with Andrea Hecht to shed light on the often-overlooked mental health challenges that new mothers face. Dr. Pensak draws on her extensive training at Yale and Harvard, as well as her personal experiences with postpartum depression and anxiety—challenges that were only intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her journey from struggling to thriving led her to write “Rattled” and offer free resources on Instagram, aiming to support mothers during this transformative period. Dr. Pensak explains how the brain undergoes rapid changes postpartum, similar to those seen during adolescence. These changes, though overwhelming, actually prepare the brain for caregiving by enhancing mental flexibility, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Rather than viewing “mom brain” negatively, Dr. Pensak reframes it as a period of cognitive growth. To manage postpartum mental health, Dr. Pensak offers practical strategies. She underscores the need to build a robust support system, including mental health professionals and social support groups, while also maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. Self-care is crucial, as is the importance of taking breaks to safeguard mental well-being. Quotes “Mothers really are the ultimate caregivers, and we don’t have enough support for mothers.” (04:43 | Dr. Nicole Pensak) “I wanted to bring forward the science and provide evidence-based information—the good information—because in the age of social media, there’s information overload, and it’s hard to distinguish between what’s signal and what’s noise. I wanted to get high-quality information out there to mothers to help them feel their best and give them a roadmap for this incredible and challenging phase of life.” (06:29 | Dr. Nicole Pensak) “If you know something just doesn’t feel right, get the help. Seek it. Ask somebody. There’s no harm in asking someone for additional information… And it goes with anything—postpartum, anything. If something in your body or in the way that you’re operating just doesn’t feel right, ask someone. Don’t just chalk it up to, “Oh, I’m too tired,” or make excuses or whatever. I think it’s so important for everybody, but for mothers in particular, that we need to take care of ourselves and not feel guilty or ashamed for it because we’re the caregivers.” (15:22 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with Dr. Nicole Pensak: https://www.drnicoleamoyalpensak.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drnikkipensak To purchase "Rattled: How to Calm New Mom Anxiety with the Power of the Postpartum Brain” https://www.amazon.com/Rattled-Anxiety-Power-Postpartum-Brain/dp/1682688305 Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Empowering the COVID Generation: Navigating the Transition from College to Adulthood
“I have to help in bridging that gap for students from graduation into the real world, not only in finding a job but also in understanding financial literacy,” says Heather Redisch, founder of the Talent Maven and creator of the Adulting 101 Masterclass. In this episode, she and Andrea Hecht dive into the unique challenges Gen Z faces, especially as they transition into adulthood during the post-COVID era. Heather emphasizes the critical role parents play in this process, advocating for a balance between support and allowing young adults to experience challenges on their own. Heather reflects on her own career journey, including a pivotal move to New York City, which shaped her approach to recruiting and HR. She underscores the therapeutic aspect of recruiting, where understanding and addressing individual needs is key. The episode explores the impact of technology on Gen Z, particularly how smartphones and social media have influenced their communication skills and confidence. Heather discusses the importance of teaching life skills—like financial literacy and effective communication—that aren’t always nurtured in a digital-first world. Through her Adulting 101 Masterclass, Heather provides a comprehensive curriculum that equips young adults with the tools they need to succeed in the real world, from managing finances to building good credit. She also touches on the dynamics of a multigenerational workforce and the need for clear communication to bridge differences in work habits and expectations. Heather’s advice to parents is to coach and support their children without enabling them, fostering resilience and independence. She encourages young adults to build a personal advisory board of mentors to guide them through life’s challenges. Quotes “Technology has really moved the needle, and kids aren’t keeping up with the times. They’re also extremely uncomfortable in their own skin. Their confidence level isn’t great, their eye contact isn’t great, and they don’t really know how to put themselves out there. It became a pattern that made me realize I have to do something. I need to help bridge the gap for students from graduation into the real world—not only in finding a job but also in understanding financial literacy.” (10:27 | Heather Redisch) “Allowing us to really understand what this generation is all about—their skills or lack thereof—and the reasoning behind it is very important. I think any parent wants the best for their kids, and we’re trying to do the best we can with the information we have. It’s important to have these kinds of conversations so we can become educated, empowered, and able to support them in a way that’s empowering for them.” (21:36 | Andrea Hecht) “As a parent, you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.” (51:34 | Heather Redisch) Links Connect with Heather Redisch founder of Adulting 101 Masterclass: Adulting 101 Masterclass: https://www.adulting101masterclass.com The Talent Maven: https://www.talentmaven.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adulting101_masterclass https://www.instagram.com/the_talentmaven Use code A101 for 20% off webinars on https://www.adulting101masterclass.com Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Instilling Gratitude in the Next Generation
“Gratitude lights our world,” says Jill Rivkin, co-founder of Gratitude Generation. “It’s an overall attitude about how you approach your life.” This week, Andrea Hecht sits down with Jill to discuss the transformative power of gratitude. Jill shares her journey from being a young storyteller to becoming a magazine writer, editor, and children’s book author, as well as her transition from city life in Chicago to balancing motherhood and professional aspirations in the suburbs. Jill’s passion for gratitude led her to co-found Gratitude Generation, an organization dedicated to teaching gratitude through hands-on service and education. They share practical ways to incorporate gratitude into daily life and emphasize the importance of modeling it for children. Jill and Andrea also offer personal stories and insights into fostering empathy and community support. Listeners will be inspired by Jill’s journey and the actionable strategies she offers for cultivating a grateful and fulfilling life. This episode is a valuable resource for anyone looking to instill gratitude in themselves and future generations. Quotes “Gratitude is an overall attitude about how you approach your life. It’s also an actionable attitude about how you approach things and with what feelings and reactions you approach them with.” (20:28 | Jill Rivkin) “Gratitude generation is at the heart in our community of inspiring gratitude with tens of thousands of people a year… GLOWING stands for Gratitude Lights Our World… When you feel grateful for what you’ve done or what you’ve been given or what you have, you will glow and it will light the world and make it all a better place. And we know we know the world could use some glowing.” (32:36 | Jill Rivkin) “I think that it is important to highlight that it does kind of wrap up into values. And so if we are to kind of pass this to the next generation, we need to stop and pause and look at ourselves and understand, is this one of our core values? And if it is, how are we exercising that muscle? And are we looking at things with the glass half full? Or are we always complaining? Or how does that trickle down?” (51:49 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with Jill Rivkin: Gratitude Generation: https://www.gratitudegeneration.org Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gratitude.generation Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/374544252977626 To purchase a copy of Jill Rivkin’s book, “Crazy Hair:” https://a.co/d/1sRIlQY To purchase a copy of Jill Rivkin’s book, “It’s Just a Potato:” https://a.co/d/bcUpccN Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Listeners will find valuable tips on time management, self-care, and the importance of flexibility and intentionality in achieving their goals. Join Andrea and Suzanne in this episode of The Next ChaptHER to uncover how to maintain excellence in your career while staying devoted as a parent. Quotes “Self-awareness, self-composure, humility, letting go of ego, sharing the spotlight with others, not feeling the need to take the credit, shining light on other people, and not letting your ego drive your decisions and responses—these are components that are really important. To me, everything hinges on effective communication and engagement with others.” (17:07 | Suzanne Sitrin) "Your non-negotiables—that’s something that I work on all the time. You need to understand your non-negotiables in work and in your personal life... I think it goes back to understanding yourself, that not everything has to get done at one time too, and prioritizing, being able to be crystal clear on your priorities in your home life and in your work life, and understanding when there’s a fire to put out at work or at home, then you need to be able to be flexible to do that.” (41:45 | Andrea Hecht) “Resilience is about wanting to welcome failure into your life so that you build skills and trust in your ability to navigate things you didn’t think you could.” (47:46 | Suzanne Sitrin) Links Connect with Suzanne Sitrin: Blue Birch Consulting: https://www.bluebirchconsulting.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bluebirchconsulting LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/suzanne-sitrin-9730b88 Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching Click the link (https://fullyinformedlifecoaching.myflodesk.com/triedandtruerecipes) to download your FREE copy of my 15 Tried and True Recipe Booklet. How Stress Impacts Digestion with Bonnie Wisener
“Stress is a common factor in many people’s lives, and its impact on digestive health is profound and often underestimated,” says Andrea Hecht. In this episode, she tackles the connection between stress and digestion with Bonnie Wisener, a registered holistic nutritionist and founder of Shift Nutrition and Wellness. Bonnie shares insights on how stress affects digestion, often in overlooked ways. Bonnie's own health challenges inspired her to leave the advertising career behind and pursue holistic nutrition. She starts by recounting her career shift from advertising to holistic nutrition. She emphasizes the healing power of food, which inspired her Shift Your Gut therapy method. Andrea and Bonnie discuss how stressors disrupt digestion, from major life events to everyday pressures like skipping meals and excessive caffeine intake. Bonnie recommends deep breathing before meals to help the body stay parasympathetic, which is essential for optimal digestion. The episode covers practical strategies for digestive health, such as avoiding skipped meals, planning ahead, and maintaining a balanced diet rich in fiber and protein. Bonnie highlights the importance of sleep and routine, noting that the body’s natural rhythms are crucial for digestion. She explains the gut-brain connection and how our mental state influences digestive function. Bonnie also shares her personalized approach with clients, stressing tailored strategies for individual digestive issues. Success stories from her practice illustrate how personalized care and nervous system regulation can significantly improve digestive health. Quotes “We stress our body out on a day to day basis without even realizing it. Our body is designed a certain way that it kind of needs sustenance to give us the energy that we need. So, unbeknownst to us, that actually does affect our physiology. It does affect how our body functions and which part of our nervous system is activated throughout the day.” (12:37 | Bonnie Wisener) “Our body loves a routine for digestion. That's what it needs.” (30:09 | Bonnie Wisener) “I think we need as a society to be mindful of the whole mindfulness and how it relates to just everything in our life, including when we're actually fueling our bodies. And so if we can't fuel our body in a mindful, calm state, how can we then do anything else? So it really goes back to that, which is just fundamental.” (33:37 | Andrea Hecht) “Stress management techniques can be very helpful, but I also want to say clearly that I think why people walk away from tips, like simple, even everyday tips is because sometimes we try something just for a week or two and we don’t really notice a difference. I think it’s really important to rather than focus on all the things, try and be perfect at doing the food properly and the lifestyle pieces perfectly, pick one or two things to focus on for at least a month and you’ll see over a month things can make a difference.” (52:51 | Bonnie Wisener) Links Connect with Bonnie Wisener: Shift Nutrition and Wellness Website: https://bonniewisener.com/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/shiftnutritionandwellness/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/shiftnutritionandwellness TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@shiftyourguttherapy Click here to access Bonnie’s tips to support digestive health while traveling: https://shiftnutritionandwellness.activehosted.com/f/31 Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Connect with Andrea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fullyinformedlifecoaching. Whether you want to or not, you will go through puberty,” says Dr. Lisa Klein, a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine. In this episode, host Andrea Hecht and Dr. Klein, who have been friends since childhood, tackle the often-taboo topics of puberty and sexual health in parenting. They aim to normalize these essential discussions to help cultivate a healthier, more informed next generation. Dr. Klein, co-founder of Turning Teen, stresses the importance of educating children about their bodies using accurate terms early on to demystify puberty and reduce associated stigma. She offers strategic advice for parents on becoming credible informants who can counteract the misconceptions spread by media and the internet, particularly around sexual content. With practical tips tailored for both boys and girls, Dr. Klein covers the physical changes of puberty, and essential concepts like body safety and consent. This episode is a valuable resource for parents ready to support their children through these transformative years with confidence and clarity. Quotes “We created Turning Teen, which is a resource, pediatrician developed educational programs about puberty and sexual health that we teach in homes, communities, and classrooms. It’s really started to grow and the beauty is that it really helps people and it’s not just helping these awkward, confused kids. It’s really helping a parent be a better parent. And it’s helping schools provide quality education… It’s helping everyone do a better job at a very, very important topic.” (08:55 | Dr. Lisa Klein) “Everyone does have values and what they feel is right and wrong. And that’s up to you and your family. But bringing it back to the science, we teach our kids about how our body works just in general or sports or whatever. And if you’re not educating your kids on the safety of their body, you’re doing them a total disservice.” (23:43 | Andrea Hecht) “Parenting is hard. Growing up is hard. There is no one right answer a lot of the time. Give yourself grace. Be vulnerable and admit your mistakes. If we can talk about it and be honest and open, then having conversations is the way to keep us healthy, safe and smart in making good decisions.” (56:22 | Dr. Lisa Klein) Links Connect with Dr. Lisa Klein: Website: Turning Teen https://www.turningteen.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/turningteen Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/turningteen Resources to speak to your children about puberty and sexual health: https://turningteen.com/resources/ Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Unleash your summer. And I feel like right now I’ve finally found something. I think it’s a lot of practice. I think it's practice and trial and error trying to find the right system for you. But it all starts with knowing yourself better and knowing the kind of person that you are.” (26:33 | Ronna Belinky) “I know that so many of us can learn so much on how to get shit done and to really be much more proactive to look at the things in our life—both work and personal—how to make those repeatable processes. I think that really is key... When you have a repeatable process, it makes things more efficient. Embracing the Trials of Motherhood with Jodi Klaristenfeld
How did a mother of a preemie parent build resilience and purpose? In this episode, Andrea Hecht connects with Jodi Klaristenfeld, the founder of FLRRiSH, which supports preemie parents from hospital to home. They explore the unpredictable nature of motherhood, discussing both its difficulties and triumphs. The critical birth of Jodi’s daughter, born prematurely due to a rare and severe condition combining preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome, became a transformative life event. This led Jodi into an intensive learning phase on medical challenges and motherhood. The episode explores the emotional toll of Jodi’s experience with her daughter’s time in the NICU, addressing feelings of isolation and guilt. Emphasizing the importance of support networks, Jodi discusses how she established FLRRiSH to aid other mothers facing similar trials. Andrea and Jodi discuss how societal norms and personal pressures influence motherhood, advocating for acceptance of life’s unpredictability and the importance of community and self-care in navigating parenting challenges. Quotes “Since I’ve become a mother, I’ve always been all about helping other mothers.” (02:03 | Jodi Klaristenfeld) “The mission of the podcast and why I started is to form a community of other mothers supporting each other and to be able to share our journeys openly and honestly. I think, sometimes, maybe with our best friends—even though they are our best friends—we might be afraid to openly share because of fear of judgment or whatever it is, but this is supposed to be an open, honest community, and that we can seek support and comfort from other people’s journeys.” (02:31 | Andrea Hecht) “I started a company called FLRRiSH, and it's all about growing, empowerment, learning, and support, because I do believe our life’s work is learning, growing, and flourishing every single day.” (21:26 | Jodi Klaristenfeld) “If your child is in the NICU, self-care is the last thing that you can think of doing. But the truth is, you can’t be there all day, every day. It’s not healthy for the child, it’s not healthy for you… Because when you’re in the NICU, you’re in this constant fight or flight mode. You have no idea what’s going on, you don’t feel like yourself. So I tell parents: do something that makes you feel like you. The doctors and nurses are watching your child. You need to take that time away so that you can fill your cup.” (32:50 | Jodi Klaristenfeld) “It takes a village to raise a family and we need to be able to show up the best that we can for ourselves first, and then be able to project that positive energy to our family.” (47:56 | Andrea Hecht) Links Connect with Jodi Klaristenfeld: FLRRiSH, Inc; https://www.flrrish.com/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/flrrish FB: https://www.facebook.com/flrrish/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/79013380/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@flrrish Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Unlock Joy By Knowing Your Values
“When you are very clear on what your values are, that can keep you moving forward,” advises Andrea Hecht as she delves into the impact of aligning personal values with life’s pursuits. Andrea likens personal values to fuel for a journey—essential for smooth and directed travel. She discusses how values are influenced by factors like family, religion, and community, and how they evolve over time. Andrea notes that feelings of fulfillment and peace often indicate that one’s values are being respected, while dissatisfaction or confusion can suggest neglected values. Andrea encourages listeners to reflect deeply on what matters most to them through questions from her Roadmap Back to Joy Value Exploration Booklet, examining how their possessions and relationships reflect their values, and whether their actions align with their beliefs. She urges revisiting these questions regularly to maintain alignment with evolving values. Her message is clear: understanding and aligning with one’s values is key to pursuing passions and leading a fulfilling life. Grab your copy of the booklet here. Quotes “When you are very clear on what your values are, that can keep you moving forward.” (06:44 | Andrea Hecht) “I like to use that analogy with a car that if you’re driving around and your tires feel a little bumpy, the ride feels a little bit bumpy, it’s probably because one of your values is not being honored. So really the values are the fuel that keeps us moving forward towards our desired direction. And then that helps us move forward. It keeps us on our path and keeps us pursuing our passions. So your values really end up developing as a product of your life experiences.” (06:53 | Andrea Hecht) “When it comes to honoring your values, you wanna identify the actions and behaviors that align with your values and how you incorporate them into your life. So what do you currently do in your life that allows you to honor these values? And what aren’t you doing? That is very important too as you continue to think about what your passions are, what your purpose in life is, what your why is.” (14:21 | Andrea Hecht) Links If you like today’s conversation, I would love it if you left a five-star rating and review so that others can discover our podcast, too. From Stay-At-Home Mom to Shark Tank Entrepreneur
Necessity is the mother of invention. In this episode, Andrea Hecht sits down with Jackie Samuelson, the inventor of the Nursing Cool Cover—a breastfeeding cover with an integrated fan, which earned her a patent and a spot on Shark Tank. Jackie discusses how she became an entrepreneur and turned her idea into a reality, from securing a patent to launching the product. Jackie's journey into entrepreneurship began while she was a stay-at-home mother, a period marked by personal challenges including a divorce and financial ruin. She shares how she leveraged resources like YouTube and Google to develop business acumen, highlighting the indispensable support of her family and the value of a resilient mindset. The conversation goes beyond the basics of starting a business, highlighting the significance of self-care, balancing professional and personal life with motherhood, and the impact of a supportive community in overcoming challenges. Jackie's story is a powerful reminder that empowerment and achieving potential stem from resilience and determination. Tune in for a conversation that encourages every listener to pursue their passion with purpose and confidence. Quotes “It's really hard when you're in that moment to try to find the inspiration to get out of it. I remember it felt like it was just for the longest time I was at that place, hanging out with the wrong crowd, not really having any direction in life. But I feel like I needed to go through that in order to really appreciate what I have now. And also that motivates me to never go back to that place.” (07:04 | Jackie Samuelson) “If there is a woman going through this, just really try to figure out what you love, what drives you, what makes you feel happy at the end of the day. But I think that comes with not having any distraction because it's easy to get taken away with the distractions and to not really pay attention to what drives you and what makes you happy, which is in turn, I feel like, how you find your purpose.” (07:32 | Jackie Samuelson) “We suffer and struggle in silence when we're breastfeeding, when we're having breastfeeding struggles. I think it starts with us breastfeeding in the middle of the night by ourselves. We're the ones there with the baby, you know, boobs and pain and all of that.” (30:52 | Jackie Samuelson) “Whatever you are working on or focused on, do the thing that you enjoy doing that comes easy to you. Just really explore that. If you're able to explore that and something great can come from it, whether it's creating a community, joining maybe a group of other moms or a creative outlet for you that you enjoy and it comes easy to you, do that, focus on that.” (34:24 | Jackie Samuelson) “What is the one kind of message, piece of advice or something that you want every listener to walk away hearing? I want them to remember that It doesn't have to be perfect. You just have to get started. Just launch the thing, sis. Just go for it.” (49:00 | Andrea Hecht & Jackie Samuelson) Links Connect with Jackie Samuelson: Instagram: @ladyalphaig TikTok: @ladyalphaig Website: https://www.shopladyalpha.com/ Connect with your host, Andrea Hecht: Work with Andrea one-on-one to unlock your true potential and lead a fulfilling life. Abby's story shows that it's always possible to follow your dreams and that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Key Takeaways: It's okay not to know what you want to do as a child or even in college. Like I was at the greenhouse all the time. We got to do all these cool experiments." Andrea Hecht on feeling pressure to choose a traditional career path: "It's really hard when you feel the pressure to kind of choose this traditional path. And I think that that is something that a lot of women, mothers, we can all relate to that." Abby Perry on starting her own business: "It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it's so worth it if you're doing what you love."
