The Night Pharma

I make psychic maps for the new travellers, with sound, images and words. Sound structures that drive people into new states of awareness. A form of music that is auditory medicine. Sound that sends people out of their minds, into the big beating heart of the cosmos. "Black is the badge of hell / The hue of dungeons and the school of night."

    01 Trance Formation

Drone based trance music. Didgeridoos, synthesizers, tanpura machine, two FM3 Buddha Machines along with samples. Recorded and produced in the summer of 2023 at Nadaville Studios in south Stockholm. I am most attracted to the ritualistic and consciousness changing elements of music. I know music can be used for pleasure and enjoyment, but both concepts lead to the questions, what is pleasant? How do we enjoy things and why? I believe reality is a projection of our mind. At the same time our mind works on making sense of reality. But there is no separation between the two. It is a constant cycle of adaption, recognition, and change. That which exists outside the mind is Nature. By encountering Nature, we can expand our mind and bypass reality, that which we live in. Music for me is a way to do this. Recording music is a way of passing on or sharing the essence of the musical ritual. Like providing a taste of something. When recorded music works it transports the listener to the site of ritual. At that point a form of transcendence can be experienced. The ritual does not have an audience. It only has participants. I want to be in a permanent state of ritual, making music for the realizing of higher consciousness for all.

    2020

Acoustic acid tribal trance for 2020. Smash the control images, smash the control machine. Love is the Law, Love under Will. For some time now I have been working with old reel to reel tape machines to record and make music. I am at last starting to produce sounds that I am happy with. This was recorded using a Nagra 4.2 Mono reel to reel tape machine, then mixed using the Reaper audio program. I offer it as a piece for the new year, new decade and new world. Global human society is in a desperate state in many ways as we continue to blunder on with our greed and fear, promoted all the time by those that are supposed to be leading us. I am inspired by Mahayana Black Hat Buddhism. The central yogic practice of the Karma Kagyu is the doctrine of Mahamudra, also known as the "Great Seal". This doctrine focuses on four principal stages of meditative practice (the Four Yogas of Mahamudra): - The development of single-pointedness of mind, - The transcendence of all conceptual elaboration, - The cultivation of the perspective that all phenomena are of a "single taste", and - The fruition of the path, which is beyond any contrived acts of meditation. It is through these four stages of development that the practitioner is said to attain the perfect realization of mahamudra. Mahamudra is practiced both independently and as the completion stage of Vajrayana practice. Then Every attempt to escape yourself Ends in a mirror Do not spend your lifespan Feeding appetites Step out of the circle The body is where We wait for death but Instead open a wound In the skin of reality Crawl through it Into yourself The ache of experience Points to no new roads But the dream can be the map From what you already know You present ultimatums Like they are ideas And then wonder why The television is not listening. What time is mind? Lying in the arms of separateness Get grow or give the difference To strangers The spider queen lives within me Colonial reparations paid to the moon. There are many ways for looking at forever Shall we begin?

Were there enough reasons Left behind For anyone to find them And take up the same life Of fears and concerns? Was pleasure left stranded On her own island And made a prisoner By those that could afford The segregated time. Did knowledge watch The whole sorry scene Unfold from his vantage high In the trees where memory Had trapped him eternal. The camp we made In the future was deserted By the time our children arrived Fanning out in multiple directions A search was commenced for promise. By morning it was over Gathered in the dust of chance Nobody was ready for history And instead tasks were allotted Based on forgetting. The larger concerns were constructed Decorated in seashells and wine They first took turns in the mirror Waiting for the signals sent by them Selves advertised each day to no one. The last fight was staged in darkness It took years to find the separation Once it was put on display The audience had already left the building But nobody knew the way home. (James Barrett 2017)
