He led the Hawks to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a perfect 27–0 regular season and an Elite Eight run in 2004. That same year, he was named AP National Coach of the Year. Over 24 seasons at Saint Joseph’s, Martelli amassed over 400 career wins and was a four-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. Today, the POZ5 sits down with a legend in the Delaware County coaching scene: Bill Zwaan, a Former Widener and the most victorious football coach in West Chester University history. Zwaan was a standout quarterback for the Delaware Blue Hens from 1973 to 1975. He led the team to the 1974 NCAA Division II national championship game.After playing, Zwaan had a successful coaching career, with his first head coaching job landing him in Delco at Widener University. Maguire's senior season was particularly impressive; he contributed to Malvern Prep's first-ever 11-0 record, scoring 14 touchdowns—including seven rushing, five receiving, and two interception returns. Send us Fan MailOn this episode,  the guys are honored to sit with a distinguished figure in Philadelphia college basketball, known for his leadership at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and La Salle University. Coach Fran Dunphy. Born in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, Dunphy played basketball at La Salle University before embarking on a coaching career that spanned over five decades. He began his head coaching tenure at Penn in 1989, where he secured 10 Ivy League titles and led the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances over 17 seasons.​In 2006, Dunphy transitioned to Temple University, becoming the first coach to lead two different Big 5 programs. At Temple, he amassed 270 wins, guided the Owls to eight NCAA Tournaments, and clinched four conference titles, including three Atlantic 10 championships and one American Athletic Conference title. Dunphy returned to La Salle in 2022, his alma mater, to serve as head coach, continuing his legacy in the Big 5. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2024–25 season, concluding a remarkable coaching career with a record of 611–361.​ Coach Dunph was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and received the Gene Bartow Award for his contributions to the game. A 2018 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, and currently color-analyst for Temple football radio. Paul PalmerPalmer, a running back best known for his stellar college career at Temple University from 1983 to 1986. In his senior year, he led the nation in rushing yards (1,866) and all-purpose yards (2,633), earning unanimous First Team All-American honors. He finished second in the 1986 Heisman Trophy voting and also in the Maxwell Award race. Palmer broke Marcus Allen's NCAA record for single-season all-purpose yardage. He set 23 school records at Temple, including career marks for rushing yards (4,895) and all-purpose yards (6,613), which still stand today. Borcky played college football at Memphis from 1983 to 1987, and after going undrafted, he played for the New York Giants during the 1987 NFL season. On the football field, Sullivan was a key player, notably recording 47 receptions for 800 yards and seven touchdowns in 1981. His performance placed him among the top receivers in the school's football history, leading to his induction into the school's Hall of Fame in 1997. Sullivan's legacy at Cardinal O'Hara is marked by his exceptional athletic achievements and his ongoing commitment to the school's development and success. Sullivan has been actively involved in the school's governance. Where he serves on the school's Board of Directors, contributing his expertise to the institution's leadership. Beyond the ball field, Sullivan has achieved much professional success. Working with companies such as Reebok, then as Director of College Partnerships at Under Armour. A former All-Delco lineman at St. James High School and a four-year starter at the University of Tennessee, Gallagher began his coaching career at St. James and later held positions at Cardinal O’Hara, Conestoga, and Williamson Trade School before taking the helm at Haverford.
