The Rehfeld Report

I will speak for approximately 15 minutes on a single topic that I know something about, with emphasis on the environment, personal finance, education and journalism.

  1. 12

    Renewable Stocks; Permanent Profits

With gas and oil prices and electricity demand soaring, solar and wind power is looking promising. There are not a lot of companies that provide and the few that do, are showing some good movement after some rough times. Some of the more promising are NextEra, First Solar,  Brookfield Renewable Partners and Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure. There's more. Tune and find [email protected]

  2. 11

    The War Against Wind

Trump has canceled a lot of wind projects, especially those located off the coasts of blue states, because he can. It has really hurt our efforts to kick the fossil fuel habit. Ironically, quite a few solidly red states are big on wind. They have the land and they have the wind. Might some Democrats get elected in those states, hopefully to promote wind power in blue states or wherever we can. We can dream and you can listen to hear the full story on the state of wind power in the U.S. [email protected]

  3. 10

    Running Low On Water

Droughts are becoming increasingly common as the globe warms up. We often have less water than we would like for drinking, agriculture and producing power. Some places have less than others, but we all to stand to lose. Listen to hear what the problems are and what we can do about it. [email protected]

  4. 9

    Wildfires Out of Control

Wildfires are burning up the country and the risk keeps getting greater. Why? As global warming increases, so too do drought conditions, making forests dry like kindling ready for something to ignite. More of the means to send the forest up in smoke too. Rising temperatures increase the risk for lightning. Rising winds increase the likelihood that an aging electric grid will break down somewhere and ignite a fire. 5. 8

    My Beef With Beef

For two plus million years, we have been eating beef and now it has to stop. I have. You could not have known a more committed meat eater than me. I loved it, but I gave it up because it's killing us. Raising cattle requires too many resources and involves too much waste, putting a terrible strain on the environment. Most of it is also bad for our health and we would be far better off eating a lot more vegetables. Tune for one former meat eater's version of giving up beef and liking it. [email protected]

  6. 7

    Dumbing Down Digitally

The digital world has become all consuming for our children and it doesn't appear to being doing them any good. Their school days, for over a decade now, are as much taken up with screen time as it is at home and, as a result, they are not learning as much as they had before they were blinded by iPad light. We look at the numbers on how poorly they are performing, why it is so and make modest suggestions on what could be done better, using the example of the few school systems that have not drunk the digital Kool-Aid. Tune in.  [email protected]

  7. 6

    The Self-Defeating States

while the red states are being destroyed by global warming more than blue states, they are doing much less to do anything to try and stop it. They are simply so very much against solar power and energy efficiency and show little sign of changing.  Tune in to hear the story. [email protected]

  8. 5

    What Would George Carlin Say?

One of George Carlin's best routines was on euphemisms. It would be hard to top, but the use of euphemisms have only gotten even more extreme in the 18 years since his death as a way of putting lipstick on a pig or hide it completely. For example, U.S. and Russian bombs can kill many people and still not call it war. Have a listen. [email protected]

  9. 4

Why Red States Pay For Global Warming

Call global warming a hoax as President Trump likes to say, but the bottom line is that his voters are more likely to pay more and more, over and over again than voters in blue states. It has nothing to do with politics though, just geography. Trump voters are where natural disasters have always happened. Big trouble now though, there are more and more disastrous hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, flooding and wildfires than ever before. Turn in to hear what's happening where, how and why.  [email protected]

  10. 3

    Great Tesla Alternatives

You may not like Elon Musk, his politics and the way he treats his employees, but that's isn't the best reason to not buy his cars or to sell a Tesla you already own. The reason to get away and stay from Tesla is that there are better electric vehicle choices. In fact, there has never been a better time to switch from gas to electric. Listen in as I talk about some of the best of electric cars from Hyundai, Chevrolet, Lexus and Toyota. [email protected]

  11. 2

    Luxurious Waste

The more you spend on a home, car and other big ticket items the more you are likely to waste in money and energy., with little in return. Take cars. Expensive cars use more gas than compacts. Fancy refrigerators with ice-making machines in the door, same thing. Also, those luxurious gas ovens. McMansions are more likely to waste energy because they are more likely to have chimneys, which waste energy all year long. The idea is to buy small electric vehicles, top freezer refrigerators without ice makers, induction ovens and homes without chimneys. Tune [email protected]
