Culture tells us love is affirmation, lust, or whatever we say it is. But Scripture tells us that God is love. Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. And God’s love was ultimately revealed in that He sent His one and only Son so that we might have life through Him. Not because we first loved God, but because He loved us first.

Solomon spent his life chasing pleasure, success, possessions, relationships, and everything the world says will satisfy us, only to find that it was all futile. Jesus didn’t just ask us to spend our lives on Him, He spent His life for us. A life spent on Jesus is never wasted. So what are you spending your life on?

The world tells us to look within ourselves, trust that we know what’s best, and carry it all. But Scripture reminds us that there is a God, and we are not Him. We were created for God, not to take His place. Like Job, we can find freedom in realizing the universe doesn’t depend on us. You’ve heard it said that you are enough, but Jesus offers something infinitely better. You don’t have to be enough, because He is.

Philippians 4:10-23 I Derek Jones I April 30, 2026As we wrap up the book of Philippians and the semester, we’re left with this question: what if there was a way to live where your life doesn’t fall apart, no matter the circumstance? Paul shows us that kind of life is marked by contentment. Not a fleeting feeling, but a steady, lasting peace that must be learned. The secret isn’t found in what we have, it’s found in Jesus. True contentment comes from walking with Him, not chasing after anything else to fill what only He can.Contentment isn’t something you feel, it’s something you embody. It produces a life that is steady, generous, and bold. When you’re rooted in Christ, you’re freed to give, to serve, and to keep sharing the gospel with conviction. You don’t invite Jesus into your plans, you follow Him into His. Are you available for the work God wants to do in and through you?

Philippians 4:1-9 I RJ Frahm I April 23, 2026Standing firm is “in the Lord.” Your stability comes from being rooted in Christ. If you don’t know who you are in Him, you’ll look for identity somewhere else. Real joy comes from standing firm in the Lord. It means living aware that God is with you now and is coming again, and that truth reshapes your life.Bring your anxiety, fear, and uncertainty honestly to Jesus. Prayer doesn’t have to be polished, it just has to be real. We don’t drift into peace, we drift into anxiety, so we must actively meet with the God of peace. Remove what feeds anxiety, interrupt it by naming it, praying it, and replacing it, and build a life that can hold peace. Standing firm isn’t a moment, it’s a way of life.

The invitation is simple but costly, relentlessly pursue Jesus. The goal isn’t comfort or achievement, it’s more and more of Him. Some of us love the benefits of Jesus more than we love Jesus, so what’s on the throne of your heart? When confronted with sin, do you repent or defend it?Real joy is found in the will of God. Run hard after Jesus, leverage your life for Him, and ask what He wants to do with your life. At the end of it all, the prize isn’t what Jesus gives, the prize is Jesus.

Real confidence is found in Christ.Like Paul, we’re invited to let go of confidence in both our sin and our success to know Him more. So what are you counting on? Maybe it’s time to drop the bags, both the good and the bad, and run after Him.
