In this episode of The Slight Shift Show, Chris and Angela are joined by Grandmaster Keith Winkle for a deep dive into the Il Il Shin philosophy. This traditional Korean concept, which translates to "renew every day" or "Be Better Every Day" serves as the foundational blueprint for the Slight Shift Show podcast. They discuss how this ancient wisdom provides a practical bridge between high-performance success and genuine inner peace. If you are an entrepreneur, business owner or high achiever, this is a must have conversation. Key Discussion Points Il Il Shin as a Lifestyle: Angela explains why she views the philosophy as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a "fad diet," emphasizing consistent mindfulness and self-awareness. The Humility of Mastery: A reflection on the profound influence of Grandmaster Kim, noting how true masters remain humble, serve others, and continue to "renew" their training despite decades of achievement. Permission to be Human: A powerful segment on the "societal shift" needed to embrace vulnerability. Angela shares how the philosophy gives people a "permission slip" to express emotions without guilt. The Power of Presence for High Achievers and Entrepreneurs

The "Slight Shifters" dive into the profound impact of being truly present in life's most significant moments. Drawing from a weekend of major milestones, including a high-stakes NCAA tournament game and a "wedding of the century" Angela and Chris explore how disconnecting from our devices allows us to anchor "core memories" into our subconscious. By making the slight shift from capturing life through a lens to experiencing it with our own eyes, we create internal high-definition "videos" that last an eternity. Sligh Shift Discussion Points: The Phone-Free Challenge: Chris shares his decision to go entirely phone-free during his son's wedding, discovering that the emotional intensity of the day was far better preserved in his mind than on a screen. Creating Core Memories: Angela recounts witnessing a miraculous three-point buzzer-beater at the Elite Eight. The group's collective realization that they actually saw it with their own eyes, rather than on the jumbotron, became the highlight of the experience. The Buddhist Philosophy of Time: A discussion on the idea that being 100% engaged in a single moment allows that moment to "last for eternity" within your subconscious. Escaping Digital Captivity: Practical shifts for managing technology, such as: Using "Do Not Disturb" as a default setting. Turning off all non-essential notifications. Externalizing reminders, instead of sending late-night texts that disrupt others. The Silent Killer of Success: Why Anger is Your Biggest Liability

In this episode of The Slight Shift Show, Chris and Angela dive deep into the second principle of Il Il Shin. Avoiding anger at all costs. While passion is a strength, unchecked anger acts as a destructive force that destroys you from the inside out, impacting both physical health and mental clarity. Drawing from personal anecdotes, Chris and Angela explore why shifting from a reactive emotional state to a logical, empathetic one is life-altering. They discuss the importance of self-awareness, recognizing physical "tells," and the leadership power found in remaining calm under pressure. The Physical Toll of Emotion: Angela shares a powerful story of how a stressful airport experience years ago caused physical chest tightness that lasted for a long period of time. Identifying Your "Tells": The importance of self-awareness. Recognizing if your heart races, your palms sweat, or you shut down, and catch anger before it takes control. Control vs. Influence: Using the "90% Rule": most situations causing anger are outside of our control. The shift lies in choosing how to react internally. Channeling Energy: How to redirect the energy behind anger into productive problem-solving rather than destructive outbursts. And much more!

Shift your focus from gaining power to increasing your expertise. Earn the Right to Lead: Avoid "imposter syndrome" by outworking your own expectations. Leadership is earned by being an example and practicing what you preach every day. Humility Increases with Rank: The higher you go in any field, the more humble you should become. A great leader is never "above" any task, including the smallest chores. Train for Longevity: Respect your body's limits. Resilience Through Reframing

In this powerful continuation of the Slight Shift Show, Angela shares her harrowing yet inspiring recovery from multiple strokes at age 29. Moving from the isolation of the ICU to the grueling physical work of regaining her strength, Angela illustrates how she reclaimed her life through sheer determination and a radical positive mindset. This episode explores how simple shifts in perspective can transform traumatic obstacles into meaningful growth, offering listeners a blueprint for navigating their own "less-than-ideal" circumstances. Key Takeaways & Advice Practice Active Reframing: Use the "Yeah, But" technique. When a negative thought or event occurs, immediately follow it with "Yeah, but..." to find a hidden benefit or positive alternative. Choose Your Memories: You have the power to decide which parts of a tragedy to hold onto. Angela chose to focus on the bonding moments with her father and the kindness of strangers rather than the pain of recovery. The "When" vs. "If" Mindset: Shift your internal dialogue from "if" you will recover or succeed to "when" you will. This subtle linguistic shift builds resilience. Avoid Stress as a Biological Essential: Recognize that anger and stress are physically detrimental. Intentionally staying positive is not just "wishful thinking"—it's a vital tool for physical healing. Utilize a "Circle of Confidence": Identify a past moment where you felt powerful and use it as a reference point to prove to yourself that you can overcome current challenges.

The 4 Step Process to Overcome Negative Patterns of Behavior

In this episode of the Balanced Warrior Podcast, Coach Paul tackles a powerful topic that can ruin relationships, destroy productivity, and kill sales. It is a negative pattern of behavior. Coach Paul explains that a single bad interaction, whether it's with a difficult client or a disgruntled team member, can derail your entire day and even spill over into your personal life. He provides a simple yet effective four-step framework, Change Your Physiology: The first step is to interrupt the negative pattern with physical action. Stand up, shake your body out, do some pushups, or take a short walk. This physical shift helps to break the mental and emotional hold of the negative event. Reframe the Trigger: Next, ask yourself powerful questions to change your perspective. By actively searching for the positive, you can shift your focus from the problem to the opportunity for growth. Redirect Your Focus and Energy: Combat the negative with an "evidence stack." If one person is critical, remind yourself of the hundreds of clients who love and appreciate your work. Anchor a New State: Create and repeat empowering statements or "I am" statements to reprogram your subconscious mind. Statements like, "I am in control of my energy," or "My clients love, trust, and respect me," can help you build confidence and solidify a positive identity. Be Better Every Day!

Managing stress and the daily pressures of being a high achiever

Welcome to another must listen episode of The Balanced Warrior Podcast for the driven professional!  This week, Coaches Mike and Chris tackle the topic of stress and the daily pressures of being a high achiever seeking balance and fulfillment. The Balanced Warriors offer practical mindsets and habits to navigate life's pressures. If you're building a business or growing a demanding career, you'll face stress and pressure. But it's how you manage it that counts. Episode Highlights: Reframing Anxiety: Mike and Chris argue that the term "anxiety" is often overused and misused. They differentiate between anxiety (a severe mental health condition requiring professional help), stress (debilitating but not immediately affecting physical health), and pressure (day-to-day challenges). Checking Your Language: Coach Chris and Coach Mike emphasize the importance of conscious language when describing personal feelings and situations. They suggest that how we label our experiences influences our response and ability to overcome challenges. Controlling the Controllables: A core strategy is to identify what you can and cannot control. If a situation is beyond your direct control, emotionally detaching from that aspect allows you to focus energy on what you can influence. The Power of Perspective (Zooming Out): Chris introduces the concept of "zooming out" and envisioning the desired outcome first, likening obstacles to "sharks" that can be overcome with certainty. This outcome-oriented mindset minimizes the perceived size of challenges. Prioritizing Well-being Amidst Challenges: The hosts stress the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being that includes adequate sleep, exercise, healthy eating, even when facing significant pressure. They view these practices as essential for high performers in daily life, rather than luxuries to be sacrificed. The Wisdom of Pausing: Coach Mike and Coach Chris advocate for taking deliberate pauses before responding to difficult situations. They emphasize that giving yourself time for reflection and accessing a calmer mindset often leads to more effective and thoughtful solutions. And much more!

His teachings, rooted in both Eastern and Western philosophies, form the foundation of Empowered Mastery and the multidimensional success approach. Humility in Teaching: Coach Chris shares a humbling experience of presenting the Il Il Shin philosophy to 200 people, with Grandmaster Kim himself in attendance. The Power of Consistent Application: A key takeaway from the conversations with Grandmaster Kim was that there was no "new" information. Instead, the emphasis was on consistent application of the fundamental principles he had taught for decades. Growth and success are found in consistency. The Value of Consistency in Daily Life: Coach Paul shares a personal anecdote from the gym, illustrating how his lifelong consistency in fitness, rather than sporadic effort, has yielded remarkable results. This principle is applied to various aspects of life, including financial investments, relationships, and personal habits, likening it to the long-term compounding interest seen in financial planning. This week on the Balanced Warrior Podcast, Coach Paul shares insights on maintaining business stamina and momentum, especially during traditional slower months like July and August. He emphasizes the importance of a "halftime" assessment to evaluate progress and strategize for the remainder of the year. Paul's Key Points for High-Achievers Recharge, Reset, Realign, Rally: Coach Paul advocates for taking time to recharge but stresses that it should be followed by a strategic reset, realignment of goals, and a renewed rally into action. Halftime Report: Use mid-year (like the start of Q3) as an opportunity for a "halftime" assessment. Evaluate what's working well, celebrate victories, and identify areas needing improvement or adjustment. Challenging the Summer Slowdown Mindset: Coach Paul debunks the myth that July and August are inherently unproductive months for business. He encourages listeners to reframe their perspective and treat July as a "new January" with renewed enthusiasm and activity. Sustaining Activity in Q3: Instead of shutting down, focus on consistent activity such as networking, connecting with centers of influence, and servicing existing clients to build momentum for Q4. Avoiding the Year-End Scramble: By maintaining consistent effort through Q3, businesses can avoid the frantic, "survival mode" rush often seen in Q4, allowing for a stronger finish to the year and a more relaxed December. Consistency is Key: Just like in fitness, business success requires consistent habits and a commitment to higher standards, rather than sporadic bursts of effort followed by periods of inactivity.

Reflections from a Day with Grandmaster Kim

This week on the Balanced Warrior Podcast, we have coaches Chris and Paul, who recently met with their Grandmaster, Grandmaster Byung Min Kim.  If you have been tuning in, you'll notice that Chris and Paul reference Grandmaster Kim's training often, and a lot of the lifestyle they both live is from Grandmaster Kim's teaching.  Of course, the meeting was profound and powerful, as with all of them, and had the two of them thinking and reflecting at a deeper level.  Tune in to learn a bit more about how to adopt the Il Il Shin (Be Better Everyday) lifestyle and listen to the takeaways that both Chris and Paul received.  Here are some key points to look out for… Sometimes, words have the same meaning but different interpretations. Stay out of the gap. Focus on progress, not perfection, and always be happy where you are. When feeling down, use three different stacks. Victory Stack:  Focus on your victories in life. Gratitude Stack:  Focus on what you're grateful for. Ego Stack:  Focus on the great things about you, the individual.  Ensuring that you are worthy of success. Master Antony Graf and his newly released book Whispers of Wisdom

This week on the Balanced Warrior Podcast, we have a special guest, Master Antony Graf.  Master Graf has numerous accomplishments and accolades.  He was a nine-time US National Taekwondo Champion, a US Team Member winning 13 International medals, and more.  He turned his energy from competition to business and now owns and operates Believe Martial Arts, a highly successful martial arts school in Miami, Florida.  Even more significant, he has a fantastic marriage and two very inspiring and wonderful children.  He captured his stories and anecdotes on leadership and parenting in his new book, "Whispers of Wisdom."  Master Graf profoundly impacts children, his own, and his students and many refer to him as the "kid whisperer."  He is an empath who truly cares; he feels what others feel, and he has taken his unique abilities and is now sharing them with all of you.  There are numerous value bombs and golden nuggets you do not want to miss.  Whether you are a parent or a leader of a large organization, this podcast is for you.   Grab a pen and paper, be ready to take notes, and listen to all Master Graf has to share.  Some key points to look out for are…   "To teach is to learn." When you speak to children, adults relate their own lives to the children's experiences. Most challenges adults face come from what happened when they were children. Feed the behavior you want, and starve the behavior you don't want. To help children or adults, you need to share their load and see things from their perspective. Up close, life is a tragedy; from afar, it is a comedy. Necessity is the mother of invention. Consistently challenging children allows them to overcome failure. Hard work doesn't guarantee success, but it greatly increases the odds. Conscious parenting: Be mindful of your words, eliminate "can't" and replace it with "I haven't done it yet."
