The Spirit is Lit (for Young Adults)

Sandy Meyers works on staff at St. Patrick’s as the coordinator of parish nurse ministry. Her role entails more than being attuned to the physical needs of people but also the mental and emotional well being of individuals. Our conversation centered on mental health in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Zac Karanovich is currently in a PhD program at Boston College on systematic theology with a specific interest in liberation theology. He is considered a double eagle (Boston College’s mascot is the eagle) because he also finished a master’s degree at Boston College in theology. This conversation focuses around liberation theology, Catholic Social Teaching, Fratelli Tutti, and much more.

Bari Bellard is a college graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans and currently works within the theater world. Growing up Catholic and Gay he has had some interesting experiences. This conversation focuses on his experiences within the church and the ways in which he has found spiritual comfort.

Joe Twiner is a recent graduate from the school of Theology and Ministry at Boston College. He recently wrote a paper for a conference on the process of discernment in civic duties, specifically voting. He breaks down some of Aquinas’ philosophical thought to give a comprehensive guide to listening to our moral compass in the process of being active citizens.

Patricio Chacon is in the Norbertine order and is also a fellow New Mexican, like Jacob. This conversation centers around Patricio’s discernment process into the Norbertines, some nerding out on theology, some New Mexico things, and more.

Mookie Manalili is a recent graduate of Boston College’s School of theology and ministry. Mookie’s work currently focuses on social neuroscience and philosophical psychology. Our conversation on this episode centers on the neuroscience of prejudice, encounter, and much more.

Valentines day is right around the corner! On the Spirit is Lit  this week Emy, Thomas, and Jacob talk all about relationships. Themes ranged from boundaries, courting, attraction, communication, and as always the good old fire round questions.

Andrew Craig received his masters degree from Boston College and recently published a children’s book entitled “The Girl Who Saved The Stars.” In this book Andrew tells the story of a young girl who lives in a big city where the stars begin to disappear. The young girl is concerned for the stars so she does something about it. Our discussion in this episode centers around caring for God’s creation, Andrew’s inspiration on writing this book, and much more.

Kayla August has many years of experience in the realm of campus ministry and is currently in the process of pursuing a PhD in preaching with a specific interest in women’s voice in the Church. She recently had an article published in The Grotto, which focused on racial justice and how one can be an ally in the fight. Our conversation focused around racial justice (specifically in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death) and women’s voice in the Church.

Frances Casey currently works at Catholic Relief Services and Emy & Jacob had the opportunity to sit down and talk with her about how she got into this field of work, what her work entails, and how we can be of assistance.
