    94. Zapped: Spending $9.99 on Boys

Ugh I swear, aren’t boys just the worst? So loud, gross, and unfocused. Well have no fear because for the low low price of… $9.99, and a freak electrical accident, you can now have access to a dog training app that can make boys do whatever you tell them to do, completely against their will! No listeners that is not the log line for a new horror movie about completely subjecting a large amount of the human population to be at your whim, it’s actually the plot summary of the 2014 Zendaya lead DCOM, Zapped. Jake has qualms about the gender of it all with this movie, Kate has qualms about this movie being categorized as sci-fi, and both of them are thrown way back with how the main characters phone looks. They also catch up on DCOM news and make plans for how to celebrate when they get to DCOM 100. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Kate getting FirstPrince pilled, The first meeting of the Start of Something New book club, Taking vitamins at our elderly age, The many similarities between DCOMs and Hallmark Channel movies, Attempts at using synonyms, Academic architecture, Obsession (2026), and spotlighting the differences between cheerleaders and dance teams. 92. Teen Beach Movie: Their Job is Beach

Oh hey listeners! You’re just in time to join us in watching our favorite movie! You know the one about a boy and a girl from opposing groups who fall in love despite their groups feelings about each other, who ultimately unite said groups to take down a greater evil. Oh no not that one, or that other one. Okay let me just say it, we’re officially making our one and only stop in 2013 on the DCOM train as we hit the beach and learn true gender equality as we discuss the meta musical Teen Beach Movie. Jake reveals his R5 lore, Kate contemplates how she and her significant other would react to being in this situation, and both of them ponder if the titular teen beach is actually located in Barbieland. They also go over some quick Disney Channel news nuggets and reveal their official rankings for DCOMs 81-90. 91. Girl vs. Monster: Skylar the Vampire Slayer

When hinges creak in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls. Whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts… err I mean monsters are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight! Welcome foolish mortal listeners to… well okay it’s technically a haunted mansion but not that haunted mansion. To summarize that long winded, and partially stolen, intro is that after a little over a month away we’re officially saying goodbye to 2012 on the DCOM train with a very spooky stop as we discuss Girl vs. Monster. Jake present a theory for Disney really pushing Olivia Holt at this time, Kate has words about the editing of phone screens in the movie, and both of them discuss how this movie totally didn’t steal from Ghostbusters but might have helped inspire Inside Out 2. They also go over all the news they missed while they were away including the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special, the newly announced Disney Legends, and the continued longevity of the Descendants and Zombies franchises. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Dealing with illnesses, Reflections on Kate’s wedding almost a year later, Olivia Holts current career in horror, A 101 lesson on Shadowhunters, The YA novel adaptation boom in 2010s cinema, Avocado toast, and A Stephen King fact checkAlso stayed tuned for next episode where we will reveal our DCOM rankings of movies 81-90, this episode would’ve been very bloated had we added that. 88. Frenemies: A Story in 3 Acts That Only Needed 1

Ah welcome back everyone to your favorite podcast hosted by two best, two good friends, who would never think of each other as enemies. Not even if outside factors came into play like say, a new romantic partner, a job opportunity, or a stranger who looks completely identical to us. Nope we would never turn on each other like that, unlike the people in this movie. Yeah that wasn’t one of my best intros but this movie didn’t give me that much to work with. So join us as we start 2012 off on the DCOM train as we discuss the 3 vignette film Frenemies. Jake does some research about the book this movie is adapted from, Kate discovers a new dream thanks to the lack of parents in one segment of this movie, and both of them come to a conclusion about why they stopped watching the Disney Channel during this time. Okay why are you just yelling at us now? If that lead in wasn’t enough to get you excited listeners than maybe the episode itself will be, because we are officially kicking off 2010 on the DCOM train with what is probably the most anticipated non-franchise DCOM that we’re going to discuss, Starstruck. There comes a time in every persons life in which they need to spread their wings and leave the nest, even if when they do that they have a completely different face than they had before. Not sure if that was enough to give it away but listeners today we wrap up 2006 on the DCOM train as we discuss the final installment in the Halloweentown series, Return to Halloweentown. Jake proposes a way to fix #MarnieGate, Kate revisits her issues with how college is portrayed in movies, and both of them pitch Halloweentown movies they actually want to watch over this. They also report on some other fourth movie installments, and a Disney Channel show getting a movie, as we continue this transition period from DCOMs to D+OMs. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Kates immersion therapy, Jakes intense spring cleaning, How Kate’s study abroad changed her, Loving space, how #AggieGate almost happened, College is not high school, a Mean Girls review, Majors and Gen Eds, and The Marnie that Lived. 65. The Cheetah Girls 2: Strutting Like We Mean It (with Special Guest Liz)

Alright listeners it’s time to get your spots on and your luggage ready as we head to Barcelona with our favorite girl group. That’s right it’s time for us to discuss the iconic Kenny Ortega directed DCOM sequel from 2006, The Cheetah Girls 2!!! Though unlike the cheetah girls in this movie we were able to get the whole gang to focus and make this happen because we have returning special guest Liz to help us talk all things cheetahlicious and Barcelona. Jake drafts a potential Cheetah Girls 4, Kate defends but also critiques Galleria, and Liz shares her plans to become a cheetah girl. They also discuss the latest news on some continuing DCOM franchises. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: So many trips so little time, The Lohanissance, The drama in Barcelona, Unrealistic college depictions strike again, Kids complaining about vacations, Asking parents for stuff, Latin American Disney Channel shows, Our limited musical talents, Quiet On Set, European Dress Codes, and Jakes baking attempts. 64. Read It and Weep: Mean Girls Meets Black Swan

Alright listeners I hope you all did your essay assignment and turned them in, wait what’s this, why did someone turn in something that clearly isn’t an essay? If that didn’t give away that we’re watching the 2006 Panabaker sister double feature DCOM, Read It and Weep, then I’m not sure what will. Jake wonders if this movie was heavily inspired by Mean Girls compared to the book it was actually based on, Kate gets very frustrated at the plot of this movie as a writing teacher, and both of them agree that Jamie definitely needs therapy or some kind of mental health treatment. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Becoming America’s Next Top Model, Getting welcomed to New York, Car talk, A Nickelodeon and Disney Channel crossover, 2006 computers, Our histories with gym class, P90X is not yoga, How great of a movie Holes is, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and a meeting with 5 Seconds of Summer. 63. Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior: A Date with Destiny (Season 4 Premiere)

Let’s get down to business, to defeat… well not the Huns but something evil at least. That’s right listeners it’s time to do your training and pick out your best formal wear as we kick (haha get it?) off season 4 with the 2006 Brenda Song led classic, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. Jake recalls his history as a Power Rangers kid, Kate learns that Disney has actually given away properties they’ve bought, and both of them give flowers to Brenda Song for making their childhoods as well as claim her as a Disney legend. They also discuss the current status of the DCOM and decide their new ending point. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Living in the cold, RIP DCOMs as we know them, The Disney Channel Games, International Disney Channel shows, Researching mythology, Mooncakes, Staying at the mall too late, Avoiding Karen allegations, and the lack of homecoming in this movie. Disclaimer: We say it in the episode but please take anything we say regarding the authenticity of representation of Asian Americans in this film with huge grains of salt. Neither of us have that experience but we would love to hear from those of you who do. Also sorry for Kates audio, her computer is on life support so she was using her phone for this recording. Testing, testing, this thing still on? Hey listeners! It’s been a while hasn’t it? But it’s here now and to celebrate our return we’re starting off by filling you guys in on what we’ve been up to while on hiatus, including big trips and big life events! We also reflect back on what 2023 was like for the podcast as a whole by looking at our Spotify wrapped stats and look forward to what 2024 holds for us as we get ready to head back out on the DCOM train with all of you! Alright listeners it’s clear that you all don’t know responsibility or the value of the dollar because you, burned the kitchen a bit, okay then, so it’s time to get to work at the dairy factory. If that introduction didn’t give it away well then let me tell you that we are ending season 3 by discussing the 2006 Aly and AJ led DCOM classic, Cow Belles. Jake wonders why Aly and AJ never sang in this movie, Kate talks about her favorite yogurts, and both of them point out the massive health code violations these girls 2006 fashion choices present. They also reveal their rankings of DCOMs 51-60. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: We’ve made it through 3 years, Theme parks are upon us, Stu call us, The third Michalka sister, Shout out to Keke, Disney Channel.com games, Ecuador, Money conversions, and 13 years of One Direction. Our Instagram will be updated soon with links on how you can help in this regard. Thank you for listening and hopefully we will be back with season 4 sooner rather than later. Alright everyone, say it with me: what team? Wildcats. What team? Wildcats. What team? Wildcats! Wildcats, get your head in the game! That’s right everyone, finally after almost 3 whole years of podcasting we’ve finally reached what some would argue is the pinnacle, the peak, of DCOMs as we kick off 2006 with the one, the only, the cultural reset that is, High School Musical. But we realize we couldn’t do this alone so we called in our friends Bekah and Hunter from The Time Mousechine podcast to talk all things East High. BONUS. Sky High: The Original My Hero Academia

Already everyone it’s time to get on the bus and head to the sky as we aim to become the next generation of superheroes. Between Up, Up, and Away and the creation of the MCU, Disney had one other entry into the superhero genre and that is what we are discussing today in this super duper bonus episode. That’s right we’re talking the 2005 cinematic experience, Sky High. Jake doesn’t know how being a teaching assistant works, Kate declares Layla a Fearless girly, and both of them lament the loss franchise potential of this amazing movie. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: Kate is a Kansas City Night 1 Girly, Jake is reading in 2023, We’re London girls, Elemental deserved better, Kate is a burn notice stan, this episode recording had been delayed a lot, Sky High: The Musical: The Series, The concept of sidekicks arent really a thing anymore, We do be shipping Layla/Warren, and Jake apologizes for combining Schrödinger’s Cat and Chekov’s Gun. 60. Twitches: The Twins Who Lived

Gather round listeners, for a story that some may find, spooky. It is the story of a land very different than our own. A land full of magic and fantasy, a land ruled over my a king and a queen, a land that was under attack by darkness. A darkness that could only be defeated by the boy… I mean the twins who lived. Yeah if that whole introduction didn’t give it away then I don’t know what will, but yes join us listeners as we round off 2005 with a beloved Halloween DCOM classic, Twitches. Jake gives a book report, Kate questions how the bad guy works, and both of them agree that this movie doesn’t feel as long as it’s runtime actually is. This episodes tangents include but are not limited to: We are reunited, We’re locked into theme parks, Jakes tablet trouble, The scholastic book fair, Clueless lore, Thanos is not in this movie, We’ll try not to be bias against the 2010s, Echoes of Regina George, and One very eventful day. We say it at the end of this episode but because next episode is probably the biggest DCOM we’re gonna cover and we’re currently in talks with some possible guests it’ll probably be a bit before we post it. But keep your eyes on our socials as we announce things regarding that episode and we can’t wait to record it for y’all.
