Finding the Good, Finding the Fun | Why So Many Women Forget How to Have Fun After 50
When was the last time you laughed until you cried? In this episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya and Jen explore something many Gen X women quietly experience: somewhere between raising children, building careers, caring for family, managing households, and checking things off endless to-do lists, we forgot how to have fun. Why does joy feel harder to find in midlife? Why do we feel guilty when we aren't being productive? And what if fun isn't frivolous at all? Backed by fascinating research from experts on happiness, play, positive psychology, and well-being, this conversation explores why play matters, how our brains are wired for productivity, and why joy may be one of the healthiest things we can pursue. Along the way, Tanya and Jen share stories about childhood fun, Barbies, fashion plates, water slides, grandparent memories, Diet Cokes with lime, summer adventures, and the tiny delights that make life sweeter. If you're a woman over 40, over 50, an empty nester, a busy mom, a grandmother, or simply someone feeling stuck in the routine of everyday life, this episode is your permission slip to start finding fun again. In this episode, Tanya and Jen dive into the science of happiness, positive psychology, joy, play, and emotional well-being while asking an important question: What happened to fun? Together, they explore: Why many women lose touch with fun after 40 and 50 The surprising connection between play and mental health How productivity culture steals joy Why social media can distort our expectations of happiness The research behind resilience, happiness, and emotional wellness Childhood memories that reveal what truly brings us joy Tiny delights that can improve your mood immediately How to find fun again without spending money or changing your life Whether you're navigating midlife, empty nesting, burnout, caregiving, retirement planning, friendship changes, or simply trying to enjoy life more, this episode will leave you inspired to slow down, laugh more, and intentionally create moments of joy. After-show: Going to Bed Angry at Jon Hamm ( A Streaming Guide)
"It made me go to bed angry." And honestly? That may be the most accurate streaming review system currently available. This week's after-show for Episode 209 of the Superlatively Yes Podcast ("Raised Analog, Living Digital — Why Gen X Still Feels Different") quickly turned into an accidental master list of everything Tanya and Jen are currently watching, rewatching, recommending, emotionally processing, or threatening to quit entirely. From Taylor Sheridan dramas to nostalgic childhood television, this episode covers the shows that stay with us, frustrate us, comfort us, and occasionally make us go to bed angry. Tanya and Jen discuss Ted Lasso, Your Friends & Neighbors, The Madison, The Better Sister, Imperfect Women, Tracker, The Night Agent, and show cancellations. The conversation also drifts into beloved Gen-X television memories, including Little House on the Prairie, Hee Haw, Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, The Wonderful World of Disney, Unsolved Mysteries, and the strange realization that many 1980s movies absolutely could not survive in modern culture. There's also a surprisingly passionate conversation about The Devil Wears Prada, why the Barbie movie brought Tanya so much joy, and whether Project Hail Mary exposed some gaps in their communcation. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, the conversation includes Mountain burgers, childhood TV lineups, mystery spoilers, actors who only play themselves, why everyone on modern television mumbles, and the ongoing Gen-X need for captions. If you've ever texted a friend, "What are you watching right now?" this after show is basically that conversation, but longer, funnier, and slightly more emotionally invested.

Raised Analog, Living Digital - Why Gen X Still Feels Different
If you survived secondhand smoke in a station wagon, folded notes into triangles, waited 6–8 weeks for a cereal box prize, and knew the heartbreak of running out of typewriter ink at midnight, this episode is for you. This week on the Superlatively Yes Podcast, Tanya and Jen take a hilarious and unexpectedly heartfelt trip through Gen X nostalgia. From Ronald Reagan and Johnny Carson to Scholastic Book Fairs, scratch-and-sniff stickers, propane curling irons, Swatch watches, acid wash jeans, and the emotional damage caused by boredom after sunset in the backseat of a car. Nothing is off limits. They revisit the collective moments that shaped an entire generation: Baby Jessica, the OJ Bronco chase, late-night television sign-offs, and growing up in a world where parents had little idea where their children were for hours at a time. Tanya and Jen also explore why Gen X became such a resilient, funny, and deeply creative generation, even if much of that humor came from unresolved trauma and from surviving discomfort with sarcasm. Later in the episode, the conversation shifts to one of their favorite movies of all time: The Devil Wears Prada 2. They discuss the fashion, the nostalgia, the emotional impact of revisiting beloved characters 20 years later, Stanley Tucci's unforgettable one-liners, Miranda Priestly's evolution, and the surprising message the movie delivers about creativity, humanity, and why authentic human storytelling still matters in an increasingly AI-driven world. This episode is funny, nostalgic, sentimental, and deeply Gen X in the very best way. Follow, download, and leave a five-star review if you're enjoying the show — it helps more than you know. The Gifts I Give Myself - A Different Kind of Self-Care
What if real self-care has nothing to do with buying another product? In this solo episode of the Superlatively Yes Podcast, Tanya talks about the quieter, gentler kind of self-care that has genuinely changed her life: preparing peace in advance. From setting a glass of water on the nightstand for "Future Tanya" to laying out Bombas socks like she's her own personal assistant, this episode explores the tiny systems, rituals, and habits that make life feel softer rather than more chaotic. Tanya shares her evolving relationship with procrastination, survival mode, urgency addiction, paper planners, "irreversible tasks," and learning how to stop abandoning herself in small ways throughout the day. She also discusses why calm once felt suspicious, how preparation creates freedom, and why the best self-care may simply be becoming trustworthy to yourself. This episode is funny, comforting, practical, and deeply relatable for anyone who feels overwhelmed by modern life, productivity culture, emotional exhaustion, or the pressure to optimize everything. Topics include self-care, routines, Gen X humor, procrastination, nervous system regulation, organization, intentional living, future self habits, daily routines, personal growth, emotional wellness, home systems, podcast reflections, and finding peace in ordinary moments. In this episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya and Jen revisit the classic five love languages from The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman—and then lovingly (and hilariously) expand the list to include the ones that actually define their lives. From "not having to explain the backstory" to "someone bringing you a Diet Coke without asking", this episode explores the deeply relatable—and often unspoken—ways we give and receive love as Gen X women. They reflect on how love languages helped a generation finally feel seen, why personality tests exploded when they did, and how understanding yourself can lead to stronger relationships, less friction, and a whole lot more grace. You'll hear: A quick breakdown of the original five love languages Why Gen X didn't grow up talking about emotional needs How love languages evolve over time The difference between giving love intentionally vs. authentically Tanya & Jen's unofficial love languages (you will absolutely relate) Why "acts of peace" might be the most underrated love language Why Diet Coke might deserve its own category Plus, a fan-favorite return of Cute & Fun, featuring beauty finds, home gadgets, and a few things you didn't know you needed until now. Mini Monday: Life is Life-ing
Mini Monday: Life is Life-ing The best part of waking up? Coffee… so you can sit back down again. In this Mini Monday, we're talking about what it looks like when life is full—not in a shiny, curated way, but in the "nothing is working, everything is happening, and why is there a generator involved?" kind of way. From tech struggles and chaotic afternoons to soul-sister truth bombs and the realization that maybe we don't need to overthink everything—we just need to do the thing—this episode is a gentle reset. We also get into: Why everyone feels a little stretched right now The importance of giving yourself (and your friends) more grace The difference between overthinking and actually taking action Why some things in life are not worth packing into the next season And a very important discussion about Carmex, moving, and letting go If you've been feeling overwhelmed, behind, or just a little off—this one's for you. Takeaway: Not everything needs to come with you. Some things you can just… let go. Give yourself some grace this week. Keep the important stuff. And maybe… don't pack the Carmex. ✨ Love Mini Mondays? Have you ever felt like life is one big mysterious puzzle without the help of the picture on the box? In this Mini Monday episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya shares a heartfelt reflection on what it means to live a meaningful life even when things feel confusing, overwhelming, or completely out of place. Through the metaphor of a puzzle, she explores how every piece of our lives, both the beautiful and the difficult, comes together over time to form something meaningful. From quiet weekends and everyday moments to dreaming again and staying curious, Tanya reminds us that life isn't just found in big milestones—it's built in the small, ordinary moments we often overlook. With encouragement rooted in faith, she closes by reading Romans 12:9–21 (NIV), offering a powerful guide for living with love, intention, and purpose in the week ahead. If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you're just going through the motions, this episode will help you reset, refocus, and remember that your life is unfolding exactly as it should—one piece at a time. What We're Watching, Reading, and Questioning with Jen
"Your life… and there is still time to write it." In this episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya and Jen bring their signature mix of humor, honesty, and heartfelt reflection as they unpack everything from modern friendship dynamics to fashion trends we may or may not be participating in (butter yellow nails…we're looking at you). The conversation kicks off with a hilarious nod to their earned right to have opinions—after surviving the wind suit era—and quickly moves into a thoughtful (and slightly concerned) review of Imperfect Women. The two reflect on what real friendship actually looks like, and why emotional awareness, empathy, and longevity matter more than surface-level connection. From there, things take a turn into storytelling and meaning as Jen shares insights from the book So I See You've Called in Dead, sparking a powerful conversation about legacy, relationships, and the idea that we are all, in a way, writing our own life story in real time. Of course, this wouldn't be Superlatively Yes without a few unexpected detours. Jen recounts her latest travel adventures (including airport behavior that raises serious questions about society), a deep dive into scent stacking trends, and a home update that includes birds in the attic, malfunctioning lights, and a doorknob that simply gave up. They also dream a little dream about seeing Harry Connick Jr. live in Nashville and staying at Dolly Parton's new hotel—because if you're going to plan a perfect night, you might as well go all the way. Through laughter, storytelling, and a few "are we okay?" moments, this episode reminds us that friendship is sacred, life is unpredictable, and sometimes you just have to find joy in the absurd. Breakdowns Before Breakthroughs
Good morning, sweet friends. Today's Mini Monday episode of the Superlatively Yes podcast is coming from a very full week—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The kind of week where life feels heavy and beautiful at the same time. In this episode, Tanya reflects on the contrast of life—deep, lingering emotions from what we watch, questions about the pace of modern life, meaningful moments with family, and the quiet realization that sometimes we're simply doing too much. From cleaning out closets and refreshing spaces to praying through hard things and sharing intentional time around a Seder dinner table, this conversation gently reminds us that life is happening in both the sacred and the ordinary. Tanya shares a personal shift—choosing to slow down and do just one thing at a time—and how that simple decision brought unexpected peace. She also reflects on the question so many of us ask: why do breakthroughs so often follow breakdowns? Through scripture, personal stories, and honest reflection, this episode offers encouragement for anyone feeling overwhelmed, stretched, or simply busy with life. If you've been moving fast, carrying a lot, or feeling the weight of it all, this is your invitation to slow down, take the scenic route, and focus on one meaningful thing today. Because maybe the breakthrough isn't in doing more… maybe it's in doing less, with more intention. Keep saying yes to the good stuff.

Trusting God With What We Cannot Control
Today's Mini Monday episode of the Superlatively Yes Podcast is coming from a very real and tender place. If you woke up feeling overwhelmed, behind, or carrying something heavy before your feet even hit the floor… this episode is for you. Tanya shares an honest reflection on what it means to live through seasons of unexpected change, emotional weight, and the quiet pressures of everyday life. In a world that often pushes us to keep going faster, this episode is a gentle invitation to slow down, breathe, and remember what actually matters. You'll be reminded that you are not alone in what you're feeling. Behind every front door are real lives filled with both joy and struggle. And even in the middle of uncertainty, you still have the capacity to move forward. This episode explores the powerful idea that the opposite of anxiety isn't calm… it's surrender. Letting go of what was never ours to carry. Trusting God with what we cannot control. And choosing to take just the next right step. Tanya also brings back one of the most meaningful concepts from the show: Proof the Day Existed. A reminder that progress doesn't have to be big to be meaningful. Showing up counts. Taking a breath counts. Choosing peace counts. If life feels like a lot right now, this episode will help you reset, refocus, and move forward with grace. Because the goal isn't perfection. The goal is proof. And some days, that is more than enough.

The Truth About Unexpected Change
Unexpected change has a way of getting our attention. We can hear about changes happening in the world all day long, but until something shifts in our own routines, our families, or our plans, we don't truly feel the weight of it. In this Mini Monday episode of the Superlatively Yes Podcast, Tanya talks about navigating seasons of uncertainty, stress, family dynamics, and the unexpected turns that life brings. She reflects on the reality that behind every front door is a family experiencing both good days and hard days, and that the human condition connects us all more than we realize. Tanya shares how faith, prayer, patience, and simple daily actions can help us move forward even when life feels overwhelming. She introduces her word for 2026—Triple—and what it means to pray for triple provision, opportunity, creativity, strength, and influence. This episode is an encouraging reminder that most problems are temporary, most people are good, and most situations are figure-out-able with faith, patience, and one irreversible task at a time. If you are navigating change, feeling overwhelmed, or simply need a hopeful reset for the week ahead, this episode will remind you that you are not alone and that the best chapters of your life may still be ahead. Topics in this episode include: Unexpected life changes Faith during difficult seasons Prayer and trusting God's timing Managing anxiety and stress Family dynamics and life transitions The power of daily progress The "Irreversible Task" mindset Finding strength during uncertain times Be safe, be funny, and say yes to the good stuff. It's Giving Swinter
A few themes from this episode: Healing is humbling, and sometimes accepting help is its own kind of growth. Not everything in modern life feels as user-friendly as it should. Your nervous system deserves compassion, too. Midlife may come with more sock decisions than anyone prepared us for. A good evening routine can be an act of self-respect. In this episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya and Jen are back behind the microphones, talking through one of those very specific life seasons where everything feels just a little harder than it should. From the strange weather whiplash of "swinter" to the humbling realities of recovering from surgery with only one working arm, this conversation is full of the kind of honest, funny, and deeply relatable moments that make you feel less alone. Jen shares the surprisingly long list of everyday tasks that become nearly impossible with one arm, including driving through Chick-fil-A, putting on deodorant, typing, fixing hair, changing sheets, and simply opening a bag of almonds with dignity intact. Tanya, meanwhile, brings stories from real life that include cleaning an apartment alone for hours, nearly taking Shawn out with a Swiffer after being startled half to death, and trying to make sense of why husbands seem uniquely gifted at appearing out of nowhere and alarming the women they love. The conversation takes a delightful turn through Bridgerton parties, Life360 surveillance by beloved family members, and the deeply unserious but somehow very important question of what socks grown women are supposed to be wearing now. Compression socks, slouch socks, no-shows, crew socks — nothing is simple anymore, and Tanya and Jen are not afraid to say so. Underneath all the laughter, this episode also lands on something meaningful. The girls talk about why life can suddenly feel more complicated in certain seasons, how technology should be making life easier but often doesn't, and what it looks like to thoughtfully care for yourself when your energy feels stretched thin. Jen shares what she is saying "superlatively yes" to right now: a new evening routine, better rest, and creating time for herself before bed instead of falling into the trap of revenge bedtime procrastination. Tanya opens up about self-talk, inner criticism, and the slow work of learning to treat yourself with more kindness. This episode is funny, comforting, thoughtful, and full of the kind of side conversations that somehow end up telling the truth. If you've ever felt overstimulated, overcomplicated, under-rested, or personally attacked by seasonal wardrobe changes, this one is for you. When You Don't Know What to Do, Do This (Mini Episode)
Some weekends stretch us. They stretch our patience, our hearts, our thoughts, and sometimes our faith. In this Mini Monday episode of the Superlatively Yes podcast, Tanya shares a gentle reminder for those moments when life feels confusing, overwhelming, or uncertain. What do we do when we don't know what to do? Tanya reflects on a weekend that left her heart spinning and reminds listeners of a simple but powerful approach to life's hardest moments. First, we pray. Then we take the next step. Drawing from her own practical approach to tackling overwhelming tasks, Tanya shares her "left to right, top to bottom" philosophy for moving forward when everything feels chaotic. Instead of waiting for clarity or motivation to magically appear, we begin with the next small step and trust that progress will follow. She also reads a meaningful passage from the book ReFramed, which she co-wrote with Jennifer, reflecting on the pace of Jesus and the quiet reassurance that we are not meant to panic our way through life. Jesus didn't run through the storms of life—He walked, steadily and purposefully, toward the next place He was meant to be. This episode is a comforting reminder that we don't need the whole plan to move forward. We simply need the courage to pray, cast our worries onto God, and take the next step. If your thoughts feel like a tornado today, this Mini Monday is here to steady your heart. Forward progress is still progress. Bent Wheels, Blonde Hair & Evidence the Week Existed (feat Shawn)
"Maybe adulthood isn't having it all together. Maybe it's just leaving evidence the week existed." This week on Superlatively Yes, Tanya is joined by Shawn while Jennifer recovers from torn bicep surgery (her hair is surviving… barely). What unfolds is a funny, honest, midlife conversation about bent Mercedes wheels, marriage dynamics, decision fatigue, blonde hair transformation, and what it really means to show up during a quiet week. From dealership warranty letters to sorting tax receipts as two self-proclaimed "alphas," Tanya and Shawn unpack the tension and humor of working together after 31 seasons of marriage. They talk about finishing The Lincoln Lawyer, streaming fatigue, DIY confidence with a new Dewalt miter saw, IKEA cabinets from San Antonio, and why sometimes the biggest growth comes from small, ordinary tasks. Plus, the SEC football metaphor that explains why Tanya walked into the salon as a redhead and walked out blonde. This episode is about alignment — in cars, in closets, in leadership, and in life. Small Things, Greater Things (Mini-Monday)
Good morning and welcome to another quiet little corner of Monday. This episode came from a gentle, reflective place in my heart — the kind of place that notices how often we underestimate small things. Small beginnings. Small progress. Small faith. We live in a world that celebrates big, loud, dramatic transformations. But God? He has always had a soft spot for the small. An acorn that becomes an oak tree. A tiny jar of oil that becomes an abundance. Loaves and fishes that become overflowing baskets. And maybe most tender of all… Little faith. Wobbly faith. Fear-wrapped faith. Faith that shows up trembling but shows up anyway. Because if this episode holds one truth I hope settles into your spirit, it's this: Small has never intimidated God. Little has never limited Him. Even wobbly faith is still faith. We talked about how easy it is to believe: "If it's small, it doesn't matter." "If I don't have much, not much can happen." "If my faith feels shaky, it must not count." And yet… God's entire history says otherwise. Some days, I come to Him with faith that feels brave. Other days? Faith wrapped tightly in fear, anxiety, questions, and "what ifs." And still… He receives it without disappointment. Without condemnation. With grace. Always grace. Tanya once said (and still believes): "Faith doesn't always feel like courage. Sometimes it feels like showing up while scared." Tanya once said: "My faith is strong. My nerves are not. God understands the difference." And maybe my favorite reminder of all: "You can bring God faith wrapped in fear. He's never turned that away." This episode is especially close to my heart during Lent — This season of returning. Recalibrating. Softening. Letting go of the illusion that we must arrive polished and perfect. Because Lent gently reminds us: We come as we are. Sometimes steady. Sometimes wobbly. Sometimes peaceful. But always welcome. And so I'll leave you with the same question we explored together: ✨ What do you want multiplied in your life? Peace? Energy? Joy? Confidence? Hope? Patience? And perhaps the braver question: ✨ How would you live if it overflowed? Thank you for spending a few minutes of your Monday with me. For listening. For reflecting. For walking this beautiful, imperfect, grace-filled life alongside us. Take care of your small things this week. They matter more than you think. With so much love, Tanya

Porch Pick Ups, Walking Pads, and Binge Worthy Shows
This episode is what happens when we sit down with "notes" and immediately ignore them. We cover life updates, corporate trauma, Marketplace porch pickups, and the shocking reality that it is ONLY FEBRUARY and we are already exhausted. Episode Highlights 00:00 — "It's February, and we're already tired." We kick things off with life updates, mild disbelief at the calendar, and the universal truth that January lasted so much longer than necessary. 01:00 — Valentine's Day Energy (or lack thereof) Red shirts are discussed. For Your Future Self; A Mini-Monday Reminder
Mini Monday Takeaways You are building a life for yourself, not a stranger. Later, older you is still you. This season is not a waiting room. Your life is happening now. Small actions create momentum. Tiny wins truly count. Schedule what matters. If it isn't scheduled, it gets sacrificed. Choose one irreversible task. One decision that moves life forward. If you're reading this, I just want you to know how genuinely glad I am that you're here with me. Mini Monday is about real life. Your real life. The one you're living right now. This week, we talked about something that sounds small but is actually enormous: You are not working for a stranger. You are very well acquainted with the person you are working so hard for. You are building a life for you — the same you that is reading this, just a few years down the road. I kept thinking about that beautiful reminder from the woman in her eighties: "This is the most wonderful time of your life. Remember to enjoy it." Not someday. Not "you'll miss this." But now. Because this season? This busy, messy, sometimes-chaotic middle? It isn't a holding pattern. It isn't the lobby before your real life begins. It is your life. And yes — the world feels loud. Fast. Unsettled. But even here, even now, life is still packed with extraordinary possibilities. Whether you're stepping into your wild-and-free empty-nest era or deep in the trenches of raising kids (and somehow also raising yourself), the invitation is the same: Live intentionally. Because if we don't gently direct our days, life will do it for us. And life, bless it, is not always the most thoughtful planner. So this week's Mini Monday challenge is simple and totally doable: Choose one irreversible task. One forward-moving action. One decision. One tiny moment of proof that your life progressed. Not everything. Just one thing. Friend, if your brain resisted? That's not failure — that's biology. Human brains are wired for comfort and safety, not productivity and spreadsheets. We're not broken. We're human. Which is why intentional living matters so much. It's not about becoming a machine. It's about becoming awake inside your own life. So wherever you are right now — busy house, quiet house, workday, reset day — I hope you'll ask yourself: "What can I do today that my future self will thank me for?" Then do just that. Nothing dramatic is required. Just fingerprints on the day. I'm cheering for you always 🤍 Love forever, Tanya

When Your Brain Tries to go Rogue (Spec. Guest Shawn)
"Vision isn't about becoming someone else. It's about becoming the person who actually shows up for their own life." In today's Mini Monday episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya sits down with Shawn for a thoughtful—and unexpectedly funny—conversation about fixing what's fixable, motivating ourselves without pressure, and developing a clear vision for the person we are already becoming. This episode is not about reinventing your life or chasing some future version of yourself. It's about leading your thoughts, energy, priorities, and well-being right where you are. Tanya and Shawn talk honestly about how our brains absorb our environments, often without us realizing it, and why awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have for growth. You'll hear practical insights paired with real-life humor as they explore how we sometimes overperform in one area to make up for another where we're underperforming, and how noticing that pattern can be freeing rather than discouraging. This Mini Monday is grounded, motivating, and refreshingly doable, with reminders that growth doesn't require perfection, just intention. If you're looking for a Monday reset that feels encouraging, realistic, and human, this episode is for you. Episode Timeline 00:00 – Welcome to Mini Monday and why today's conversation is about fixing, motivation, and vision 00:28 – What it really means to become the best version of yourself (not someone else) 01:20 – Leading your thoughts, energy, priorities, and well-being 02:10 – Why your brain is your most valuable asset 03:05 – How our environment shapes us more than we realize 04:20 – The idea of overperforming in one area to compensate for another 05:40 – Practical awareness without shame (and a little humor along the way) 06:55 – A realistic, encouraging Monday mindset reset Patreon.com/SuperYes Superlatively Yes website Superlatively Yes on Patreon Superlatively Yes Instagram Page Superlatively Yes Facebook Page Jen's Coaching Instagram: reframe your world Tanya's Instagram Tanya's Facebook

Propaganda, Purchases, and the Hotel Fiasco
Welcome back to the Superlatively Yes podcast. Somewhere between IKEA and a hotel room fiasco, we officially stopped caring — and honestly, it felt healthy. This episode is brought to you by the new official members of the "We Do Not Care Anymore Club." After leaving the house, traveling to San Antonio, and then immediately returning home, only to be unexpectedly confined indoors for over a week, Tanya and Jen are processing life, culture, movies, and expectations in real time with humor, honesty, and zero filter. They talk about the emotional whiplash of travel followed by forced stillness, including a hotel room fiasco that will absolutely make you feel better about your own travel stories. There's commentary on IKEA, hotel logic that makes no sense, and the strange way being stuck inside recalibrates what you suddenly care about… and what you absolutely do not. The conversation weaves through movies, modern culture, and the propaganda we're all subtly falling for — productivity myths, lifestyle pressure, and the unspoken rules we've accepted without ever agreeing to them. Tanya and Jen also explore what they may be opting out of heading into 2026, and why choosing comfort, clarity, and humor might actually be the most rebellious move. If you've ever come home from a trip exhausted, questioned why everything feels so loud, or found yourself thinking "I simply cannot care about this anymore," this episode will feel like sitting in a hotel room with friends, laughing through the chaos and making peace with where you actually are. Come for the San Antonio stories. Stay for the cultural observations. Leave feeling validated, entertained, and significantly less alone. ⏱ Episode Timeline 00:01 — Welcome back to Superlatively Yes and the immediate realization that leaving the house and returning home are two very different emotional events 00:30 — Introducing the unofficial sponsor of today's episode: the We Do Not Care Anymore Club 01:15 — The elephant in the room: being unexpectedly confined at home for over a week after travel 03:00 — Travel whiplash is real: why coming home can feel harder than leaving 05:45 — San Antonio reflections and how perspective shifts when routine disappears 08:30 — The hotel room fiasco: expectations vs. reality and why hotel logic never makes sense 12:00 — IKEA thoughts, consumer confusion, and how quickly priorities rearrange themselves 16:00 — Movies, media, and the propaganda we're all casually falling for 20:30 — The unspoken rules we've agreed to without remembering when we signed up 25:00 — What Tanya and Jen may officially be opting out of heading into 2026 30:00 — Humor, clarity, and realizing it's okay to care less about the wrong things 34:00 — Closing thoughts, laughter, and gentle permission to loosen your grip

Mini Monday: Evidence the Day Existed
Some days pass quietly. Others leave fingerprints. In today's Mini Monday episode, Tanya invites you to consider one simple, grounding question: What will be your evidence that this day existed? Not proof of productivity. Not hustle. Not a full reset. Just one intentional action that leaves a mark. This episode explores what evidence can look like, starting a DIY project, reading a chapter without distraction, watching a movie on purpose, taking a walk, opening a journal, hosting friends, making something with your hands, or capturing a moment you don't want to forget. Because when we choose to participate in our days, even in small ways, they stop slipping through us. Tanya shares a tender story from her daughter Jordan's birthday celebration and reflects on how moments, photos, conversations, and connection become lasting proof that a day mattered. From printed photos and handwritten captions to long phone calls that nourish the heart, this episode is a reminder that meaning is created—on purpose. As the week begins, this Mini Monday encourages you to do one thing that leaves evidence. One finished task. One memory. One beginning. Because tonight, when the day is done, you deserve to say: Yes. Today existed. And I was part of it. Mini Monday: Direction (Over Perfection)
"A rest area isn't a place to stop — it's a place to reroute. That's often where guidance begins." 190. Mini Monday: Direction (Over Perfection) Welcome back to Mini Monday on the Superlatively Yes podcast. I'm Tanya, and I'm really glad you're here. Today we're talking about direction — not perfection, not hustle, not starting over… just choosing where you're headed next. If you've found yourself paused, distracted, or pulled into a mental rest area lately, this episode is your reminder: rest areas aren't meant to be permanent stops — they're places to reroute. And sometimes, that's exactly where guidance begins. This Mini Monday is about small course corrections, tender progress, and choosing one irreversible step that leaves evidence your life moved forward today. Growth doesn't usually happen on a big stage — it happens quietly, in hallways, in ordinary moments, and yes… sometimes while being locked out of your own hotel room. If January didn't go how you planned, or if you feel behind before the week even starts, this episode will gently help you reset your direction with grace, humor, and clarity. You don't need a perfect plan. You just need a next right step. Analog Bags, Binge Revolt and Craving Elegance
*]:pointer-events-auto scroll-mt-[calc(var(--header-height)+min(200px,max(70px,20svh)))]" dir="auto" tabindex="-1" data-turn-id= "436c318a-93b3-40fb-8177-6f0ea5513e43" data-testid= "conversation-turn-4" data-scroll-anchor="true" data-turn= "assistant"> Something is trending on TikTok like it's brand-new, and Tanya is over here, like… sweet friends, I've been doing this since 1987. Welcome to the Superlatively Yes conversation about the "analog bag," aka your car purse, your tote, your emotional support bag, your tiny portable sanity kit. The one filled with notebooks, pens that actually write, something to read, something to do, and a little piece of your personality that does not require Wi-Fi. In this episode, Tanya and Jen talk about why having a "bag with a place to land" is more than cute. It's a practical way to reclaim your attention and calm your nervous system in a distracted world. Instead of automatically grabbing your phone while you're waiting in the car line, in a coffee shop, or between errands, you can reach into your bag and choose something that makes you feel present again. A journal for brain dumping. A list notebook that holds all the mental tabs you've been carrying. A magazine like it's 2003. A tiny creative hobby that keeps your hands busy and your mind quiet. Or even letters and cards, because yes, we are bringing back correspondence, and we are proud. Then we pivot into a second "everything old is new again" trend that honestly might change your evenings. We're watching one episode at a time, like the good old days. No bingeing the whole season. No Netflix asking if we're still alive at 2:00 a.m. Just one episode, the loop is closed, the TV turns off, and you get your night back. Better sleep. Better mood. Better attention span. Actual time for real life. Shawn Smith gets a proper shoutout here because he has apparently become the household spokesperson for emotionally stable adult behavior, and we love that for him. We also talk about why society is craving elegance again. Beautiful sets. Tailored clothing. smart, witty dialogue. Shows and movies that feel like a whole aesthetic reset, from Bridgerton's pop songs in a violin section to the anticipation of The Devil Wears Prada returning to the big screen. We don't want to consume everything instantly. We want to look forward to it, savor it, and let it be a fun part of our week. And because we cannot be trusted to stay on one topic for too long, there's also a quick snack segment that might actually become your new obsession. Warm dates (for five seconds, do not disrespect the microwave), a little cream cheese, hot honey, flaky salt, and chopped walnuts. One bite. Ten out of ten. You're welcome. We circle back to Tanya's Irreversible Task Challenge and celebrate the magic of finishing something that leaves evidence—cleaning a messy drawer and resetting a space. Letting go of the expired makeup palettes and doing the small things that make you feel like yourself again. Jen also makes a brilliant request that needs to happen immediately: Irreversible Tasks as stickers, so you can peel, place, and celebrate in your journal like the organized queen you are. This episode is your reminder that you don't have to let life dissolve into your phone. You can create calm on purpose. You can build a bag that supports who you are. You can watch one episode and turn it off. You can practice your talents. You can bring elegance back in tiny, realistic ways. And you can remember who you are again. If this episode made you feel calmer, more grounded, or like you suddenly need a fresh notebook and a tote bag that means business, would you do us a favor? Mini Monday: Delete, Replace, Visualize and Close a Loop
"You don't need more motivation. You need traction." Welcome back to Mini Monday. I'm Tanya, and I'm really glad you're here. In this episode, I wanted to gently remind you of something January has a habit of making us forget: it is not too late. If you didn't start the year perfectly on January 1st, you haven't failed. That's not how real life works, and it's definitely not how growth works. This Mini Monday is about traction, not pressure. I've been challenging us this month to focus on one irreversible task a day. Just one small, completed action that can't be undone. Something that leaves evidence your life moved forward today. It might be sending an email you've been avoiding, hanging a picture that's been leaning against the wall, or finally scheduling the appointment you keep putting off. Quietly starting still counts as progress, and progress is pleasing to the brain. Finished things build confidence. When we stop chasing motivation and start building traction, something shifts. Practicing the habit of finishing strengthens our confidence and helps us master our time. And time management isn't about pressure or hustle—it's how we begin to recapture our lives. This is preparation, not punishment. I also invite you to take an honest look at your life without shame or comparison. What's working? What's draining you? What have you outgrown but keep carrying anyway? You are allowed to make a change before things fall apart. You can reset without a crisis forcing it. Sometimes growth simply looks like stopping and choosing to do things differently. I shared a sweet moment from a recent family game night that reminded me how often life deals us into seasons we don't fully understand. Just like learning a new game, we watch, listen, and learn as we go. Learning still counts as progress. You belong in the season you're in, even if you don't know all the rules yet. We also talk about visualizing your future self—not in a vague or "woo woo" way, but clearly. How does that version of you move through mornings? What does she tolerate? What does she no longer put up with? That future version isn't imaginary. It's potential. And you don't become that person all at once. You become her one irreversible task at a time. I speak directly to self-esteem in this episode, because I see so many capable, thoughtful, qualified people holding themselves back from spaces where they absolutely belong. Confidence isn't loud. Confidence is giving yourself permission to show up, to take your place, and to be seen without apology. You don't always feel ready—but when you step forward, readiness follows. Before we wrap up, I offer a small bonus challenge for the week: delete one thing that steals your time and attention but doesn't serve you. Replace it intentionally with something that builds you. Replacement matters. It keeps your mind moving forward instead of feeling deprived. When you choose loops that actually close—loops that leave evidence—you begin to feel capable again. If you've been feeling behind, uncertain, or hesitant to step into the next version of your life, I want you to hear this clearly: you are not late, you are not behind, and you are not done. Take a deep breath with me. You still have time, and you are allowed to use it well. I'm so glad you're here, friends. Spending Mondays with you is my favorite part of the week.

National Quitters Day & Trading TikTok for Talents
Hi friends, It's Tanya and Jen, and we had so much fun recording this first episode of 2026 with you. This one started the way most of our best conversations do over chips and salsa… and somehow turned into a full-blown heart-to-heart about quitting, trying again, common sense, and how we're all accidentally wasting our talents on our phones. We talk about National Quitters Day (the second Friday in January — yes, we Googled it 😂) and why so many of us give up on our goals so quickly. Not because we're lazy… but because we set the bar so high and rely on motivation instead of grace. In this episode, we laugh, ramble, and tell the truth about: Why motivation never stays How "all-or-nothing" thinking makes us quit The Trim Healthy Mama rule that changed how we see mistakes (you get a reset in three hours!) Why tiny choices beat big, dramatic overhauls Learning to cook ten meals instead of becoming a gourmet overnight Reading more books and scrolling less And giving ourselves permission to start again tomorrow We also went full-soapbox about society in 2026 — because apparently we had some feelings 😅 — including: Traffic etiquette (LET ONE CAR IN, PEOPLE) Chick-fil-A drive-thru behavior Airport pajamas, bare feet, and barbecue on planes Bathroom manners (yes, we said boob-water) And why using a turn signal is not optional And then we got serious in the best way: We talked about trading TikTok for our talents — playing piano, cooking, reading, learning, creating, living — instead of scrolling away our lives. Jen shared her goal to read more in 2026 after going from 50 books to 12, and Tanya committed (on record!) to learning how to cook real meals instead of surviving on crockpot chaos and restaurant food. We ended with a simple invitation: What's one thing you could quit this year? And what's one thing you should make more room for? You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to do it every day. You just have to keep coming back. Thank you for being here with us, laughing with us, growing with us, and doing life alongside us. We love you so much, and we can't wait to see what 2026 holds for all of us. 💛 Tanya & Jen

Mini Monday: A Gentle Reset
In this Mini Monday episode of Superlatively Yes, Tanya invites you to slow down, reset, and gently begin your week, and your year, with purpose instead of pressure. We're living in a noisy, distracted world where most of us wake up already feeling behind. In this episode, Tanya talks about how easy it is to spend our days reacting, scrolling, and carrying too much in our minds and why a small reset can change everything. You'll hear: Why modern life leaves us overstimulated and exhausted The power of pausing instead of constantly pushing How writing things down helps the brain feel lighter and more in control Why simple lists, prayers, or honest conversations can bring clarity How small, finished tasks build a meaningful life over time Tanya also shares a heartfelt reflection on the journey of Superlatively Yes from its beginnings in early 2022 with Jasa, to Jennifer becoming a co-host, and how the podcast continues to grow and evolve alongside its listeners. This episode is a reminder that this show was never about being polished; it's about being present and walking through life together. As we step into 2026, this Mini Monday is a gentle invitation to live on purpose to notice, to choose, and to build a life you're proud of, one small moment at a time. To close, Tanya gives one simple challenge: Do one irreversible task today. One small thing that leaves evidence that today mattered — a walk, a prayer, a phone call, a page written, or a surface cleaned. Because we don't change our lives with giant leaps. We change them with small, finished steps. 🎧 New Mini Monday episodes drop every Monday on Superlatively Yes. Follow the show and share this episode with someone who could use a soft reset today. 💛

Progress Is Pleasing: A January Reset That Works
My sweet friends 🤍 If you're feeling a little foggy after the holidays, distracted, behind, or like everything is slightly "off," this episode is for you. Today isn't about restarting your whole life. It's a reset. A soft landing into 2026 with some simple systems that help your brain breathe again. What this episode is really about: Resetting, not reinventing. Getting the noise out of your head and into one place (because progress is pleasing to the brain). Creating evidence that the day moved forward. Recapturing our time, attention, and talent (instead of handing it to doom scrolling). Key takeaways (quick + clear): ✅ Progress calms the brain. Open loops create mental noise. ✅ A brain dump is a reset button. The goal isn't to do it all—the goal is to see it. ✅ Saving something to your phone isn't an action step. (Ask me how I know 😂) ✅ One irreversible task a day builds momentum and self-trust. ✅ When nothing in your environment reminds you what matters, you lose focus. That's why boards work. January Challenge: One Irreversible Task a Day An irreversible task is something that leaves evidence and can't be easily undone: A workout A journal page Reading a chapter Hanging a picture Styling a shelf Completing one project step 3 Board Ideas from the episode (choose ONE to start): Prayer Board – names, requests, scriptures, gratitude Vision Board – not "manifesting," just setting direction Life Board – current projects + punch lists + what matters right now (Simple supplies. No perfection. Just visible reminders.) 📎 Your Printable Download (Patreon Exclusive): ✨ 12 Irreversible Tasks Challenge — fridge-friendly + cute + motivating Use it exactly as-is, or let it inspire your own list. The magic is getting it out of your head and into the real world. 12 Irreversible Task Ideas (from the episode): Read a chapter or two Clean out one messy drawer Write in your journal Style an outdated/unfinished shelf Clean out your tote bag/diaper bag/back seat Go to sleep early Create a project you saved on your phone Create a January playlist Stretch on the floor for 20 minutes Put a meal in the crockpot early Do a 20-minute workout/walk/jog Take a pet for a walk (yours or somebody else's 😄) We're not trying to be busier in 2026. We're trying to be more intentional, more present, more skilled, and more engaged with our real lives. Pick one thing today that can't be undone… and let that be enough. 🤍

An Award Winning Podcast
Welcome back, friends! In this episode of the Superlatively Yes Podcast, Jennifer and I discuss various topics ranging from awards and personal achievements to fashion insights and conspiracy theories. We get tickled by our personal experiences with award-winning and losing, discuss a trending TikTok personality, and talk about what we are currently watching, including shows like Severance. Also, Jen tells me some very disappointing news about the Publishers Clearing House. We also explore the significance of awards and recognition in both personal and professional contexts. We reflect on our own achievements, the prestige of major awards like the Nobel Peace Prize and the Pulitzer Prize, and the journey of creativity in writing. Of course, we give made-up awards to one another for home management and finding lost items. Most importantly, we discuss the importance of acknowledging personal achievements, embracing flaws, and letting go of unnecessary competition. The conversation also touches on the significance of remembering others, the challenges of consumer culture, and the journey of personal growth and resilience. Thanks so much for hanging out with us. The Pressure We Put On Passion
In this episode, Jennifer and I delve into the multifaceted concept of passion, exploring its role in our lives (beyond the romantic notion often associated with it.) We discuss the pressures society places on individuals to find and monetize their passions, the importance of recognizing that passion can evolve, and the idea of Ikigai as a guiding principle for finding purpose. Also, we talk about nurturing passion without the burden of expectation, allowing it to enrich our lives instead of dictating our career paths. Thanks so much for being here, Tanya Superlatively Yes website Superlatively Yes on Patreon Superlatively Yes Instagram Page Superlatively Yes Facebook Page Tanya's Instagram Tanya's Facebook Takeaways Passion is often misunderstood and can create unnecessary pressure. It's okay for passion to change over time; it doesn't have to be a constant. Many people feel lost when trying to identify their passion, which is normal. Passion should enrich our lives, not dictate our careers. Finding your Ikigai can help clarify your purpose in life. It's important to separate passion from the need to monetize it. Real-life experiences can help uncover what you are passionate about. Nurturing passion can lead to unexpected opportunities and growth. Hard work and honest jobs have intrinsic value, even if they aren't our passion. We should allow ourselves to explore different interests without the pressure of being perfect. Welcome to Superlatively Yes's seventh season. We are back in this first episode of 2025 and we are so excited to connect with you all and bring some fun, fresh new content. Today I am here with my good friend and yours, Jennifer McCrodden. You know Jen, she's been around since season one. She's an OG. Jasa, our hilarious world traveling friend will be in and out this season. Before you get concerned, everyone and everything is fine. We're fine. We're just like in a super busy season. And this makes a lot of sense to us right now. We're so excited. We're committed to all of you in the SY community, committed to this platform. And we love this opportunity. Okay. Since we last had Jen on the Superlatively Yes podcast, she has become a drum roll please certified life coach. And do you know who has benefited the most from this so far? Me. I love to unwrap topics and conversations with Jen because she has such a wise and unique perspective. I learned something new from her guys every time we have a coaching session or a long lunch at Tacos for Life. Welcome back to the Superlatively, I'm sorry, the Superlatively Yes podcast, Jen. Jen (01:25.08) Thank you, Tanya. And that is so kind of you to say. I have greatly benefited from life coaching as well, and always from having tacos with you and hanging out. So it's a mutual benefit for sure. Tanya N Smith (01:35.535) Tanya N Smith (01:39.867) It really is. Yeah. Okay. So, let's just get right into it. Listen, everybody listen. Jen wrote me this letter and one of our back and forth moments of talking through topics and it absolutely made my day. It made me laugh out loud and that is kind of hard to do. So I want you to hear it. I want you to hear in her sweet voice and then we're going to talk about it right after. Jen (01:44.311) Yes. Jen (02:05.356) All right, a letter to my dear friend Tanya. Dear Tanya, all right, before we begin, a disclaimer. Do you remember when your grandparents used this phrase? If I had a quarter, I think my grandparents said if I had a dime, for every time you, fill in the blank, I'd retire and move away and be rich. Well, sadly, my friend, due to inflation, we are retiring coin money. Tanya N Smith (02:25.235) Mm-hmm. for sure. Jen (02:34.626) And we are only allowed to deal in tens and twenties because I mean, it's spendy out there folks. It's spending. So Tanya, if we had a $10 for every time either one of us has used one of these phrases, we would be podcasting from an island somewhere. And here are the phrases most often used by us. And this is why I can't be in charge. All the time. Here's another one that we use all the time. Tanya N Smith (02:47.667) Mm. Tanya N Smith (02:59.292) every day. Jen (03:03.608) From now on, you are the one making all my decisions. I'm done. I'm done. Why didn't you step in and intervene? Tanya N Smith (03:07.813) every other day. Jen (03:17.476) of For the Love of Nancy Reagan. You let me. Tanya N Smith (03:19.933) For the love. Yes, why did you let me do that? my word. Jen (03:25.42) Yes, and I don't know why Nancy Reagan, that's just who we use. And then here's one of my all-time favorites that we have said multiple times. What would Dolly do? I mean, what would Dolly do? Tanya N Smith (03:36.051) preach that one what would Dolly do? Listen, we know she would put on her heels and put on her makeup and she would look fantastic doing it. Jen (03:43.894) and she would do it, and she would do it well. So listen. Tanya N Smith (03:46.545) I love these. love these. I'm sorry. You have more. Go on, go on. Jen (03:49.484) No, no, listen, I'm not too proud to say it and I know you're not too proud to say it either. We need help, all of the help, in all of the ways, at all of the times. And both of us helping each other and supporting each other, it's been a pillar of our friendship for the past 25 years. The fact that we have either been on the front row of each other's lives or possibly co-piloted one another into some kind of shenanigans. Tanya N Smith (04:06.087) Yeah. Yeah. Jen (04:18.068) situation and the goings-on and the doings, it means that we have historical records. These are receipts, if you will, of all of the things. And so this letter is simply to remind you that there are no takesy-backsies. We've come too far. We're just going to keep moving on. And as such, I was going to make you a promise that I was going to be more chill in 2025. But even as I'm writing this, you and I both know Tanya N Smith (04:23.911) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (04:47.059) You Jen (04:47.296) And I can, I know you're laughing because that's just simply not going to happen. But here's what I'm going to attempt. And by attempt, that means of course you're signed up to support in all the ways I'm going to attempt self acceptance. No wait before you I roll self acceptance does not include the following. We will not be accepting fine lines and wrinkles. Tanya N Smith (05:15.027) Mm-mm. Jen (05:16.856) gray hair, or ugly shoes. Tanya N Smith (05:17.811) No, no, no, ugly shoes and no, absolutely not. Jen (05:22.67) There may be more that we add to this list later, but those are the top three that we will not be accepting in 2025. Tanya N Smith (05:28.453) No fine lines and wrinkles, no gray hair for us. For us, other people it's okay, but for us, we can't do it. Yeah. Right. Jen (05:34.21) You know, some people look amazing in gray hair and I celebrate it, but I'm probably not one of those people. So perhaps you were suspecting that I was going to reach out to you in early 2025 and say, this is the all new improved gin, new year, new me. But alas, no, but also yes, because I think that even though self-acceptance might seem small, It's going to be something that's big. And so part of self-acceptance might be me being OK with being an ambivert, which I can hardly even say. Tanya N Smith (06:05.777) Yeah. Tanya N Smith (06:12.787) Did you say ambivert? Did you say the word ambivert in the first five minutes of our podcast? Jen (06:19.63) Yes, yes I did. Mic drop. I need to be okay with not writing a novel, but enjoy writing all the same. Okay, we're gonna accept that my pie crust will always be classified as rustic. Okay, it's just going to be, that's how it's going to go. I will always be reading at least two books. I... Tanya N Smith (06:30.675) Hmm. Tanya N Smith (06:38.163) Hmm. Jen (06:47.118) Probably have spices in my spice cabinet that are expired. I mean who really needs coriander honestly Tanya N Smith (06:53.331) What is it? No, don't even need to It's okay. I've gone this long. Jen (06:56.162) We can't go down that rabbit hole. Jen (07:00.376) There are pictures of you and me from the 1900s before straightening irons and hair therapy, honestly. And they're going to stay out there. And here's what we need to do. We need to say, she was me. I am her and accept that. So here are marching orders together, dear friend for 2025. God loves us and we love one another. And let's just keep moving on. Tanya N Smith (07:05.871) bless our hearts. Tanya N Smith (07:18.589) Yeah, yeah, Tanya N Smith (07:29.991) I love it. Yay! Do you know how it thrilled me to read this letter? Like it was, okay, first of all, a letter, come on. Who has sent me a letter? I felt like the Blue's Clues guys. Like, yeah, I got a letter. And then I just love everything about it. And here's why it meant so much to me. You and I have been on this roller coaster when it comes to all the things we are supposed to accept or try to forget or. Jen (07:31.107) Love, Jen. Jen (07:36.654) Aww. I know, I was throwing it back old school. Tanya N Smith (07:58.575) work through on our healing journey. I mean, and I'm not downplaying any of that stuff, but isn't it fascinating that we have seen a revolt or maybe a revolution against New Year's resolutions, the New Year, new you mindset. And I wonder, know, friend, like, what does it say about us as a society that we are done? We are done with it always being on a 12 month improvement plan that starts every 12 months. Jen (08:12.792) Right. Jen (08:27.086) Right. Well, first of all, at first I thought it's just me. I'm, I'm revolting. But then I realized, no, I think the whole world is saying, I can't, I can't do it. And I think what it is is, you know, there are probably 915 million books, self-help books out there. There's so many plans. There's so many gurus. There's so many helping us. And again, like you, I'm all in. I want to do my best. want to learn. I want to grow. want to heal. I want to do all the things. But to be able to keep up with all the ounces of water and all of the vitamins and all of the... I can't. And so I need to pick what works for me. I need to accept myself where I am and move forward. But love where I'm at. If I'm always waiting... Tanya N Smith (09:09.094) Right? Jen (09:23.118) For the best me there is, I don't get to enjoy the me that I am now. Tanya N Smith (09:27.195) my gosh, that is so good. And I wish I knew that before I was, I mean, now that I'm 30, I'm beginning to learn a few things. Jen (09:35.67) Right. Same. Same, sister, same. Yeah. Well, a little. Tanya N Smith (09:39.079) Right? LOL. I'm a little older than that. But yeah, yeah. No, I mean, I say all the time I wouldn't go back to being 20 or 30. And that's not because I didn't love that part of my life or I don't appreciate other people being in that part of their life. It's because that's an exhausting thought to like go back and do it over again. It just really has to do with going back and doing it all over again. Jen (09:51.822) Mm. Jen (10:07.598) Maybe we're more tired. But I also think I wouldn't want to go back to those thought patterns. Right? If I went back, I've got to take my older 30 brain back to my 30 year old self, if that makes sense. Right? I need the wisdom that I have now in my 30 plus. Tanya N Smith (10:09.556) yeah. Tanya N Smith (10:17.171) There you go. Tanya N Smith (10:24.531) Right. Tanya N Smith (10:31.699) Because we've learned a thing or two along the way, coping strategies, mechanisms, survival skills in this world. And we just frankly didn't know them earlier. Jen (10:42.732) Yeah, and I kind of like myself now. Tanya N Smith (10:46.737) I like you too. Okay, I am not going to waste anybody's time. I'm to get right to four questions because you are so good at these four, at these suggestions, I should say. You have four suggestions and I call them ways to like navigate forward in life. There's probably a much better title for them. But Jen, what are your four suggestions for someone wanting to navigate forward in their life? Jen (10:47.989) Aw, thanks, Fred. Jen (11:11.169) Yeah, yeah. Jen (11:15.48) Well, just as we were talking about, these are not resolutions. These are not things we're going to go out and do. But I think, first of all, they have to be our mindset. And if there's anything I want to change, it's less doing and more how I'm approaching or my perspective towards the way that my life is right now. So the first one on the list is the best way to change anything is to understand what it is and why. And so. Tanya N Smith (11:43.223) That's good. Jen (11:44.396) you've heard about the five whys. Yes, everyone knows that you ask why five times to kind of get down to the basis level of what you're thinking or what you're feeling or what you're needing. And I think we don't employ that exercise often enough to really ask ourselves what is happening? Why am I feeling this way? what does this all mean for me right now? We just kind of push that aside. We push our feelings aside and we say, well, I read this article. I watched this great TikTok. I've got to move on with what this person is saying because they're an expert, right? And so stopping to examine why it's important to me or why it's not important to me or why I feel this way, I think it's the first real step in evaluating where you are and what you Tanya N Smith (12:25.116) Yes. Jen (12:38.39) are about and what you want to change or not change. Why are you wanting to make those changes? Tanya N Smith (12:41.553) Okay, so good. This is so, so good. I have a story about this that I have, we've talked about that I want to share it with the listeners about understanding why so that you can figure out what. But before we go, I mean, I want to tell the story because I think it will help somebody else because it did me. But I just want to put a pin in that and I want to say it again, that because you said it. Jen (12:55.47) So good. Tanya N Smith (13:08.505) These are your words. The best way to change anything is to understand what it is and why it is. And like you said, there are so many voices in our head that I think we forget to stop and say, what am I feeling? Why am I feeling it? And like, am I dead inside? Like me, like, you know, because sometimes when I am feeling that way, it's because I have absolutely forgotten to check in with myself, but we're going to come to that later. Please tell us number two, the second suggestion. Jen (13:37.038) I love that check in with yourself number two. These are some of the wisest words that I've ever read that were written by you my friend and You wrote them in a book titled reframed in the year 2020 of our of our Lord and Savior when life was super hard and You said embrace the season that you were in and boy did we have to embrace that season hard or that Season, embrace that's hard. But embrace the season that you're in. You know, I was reminded the other day, there's this song by Trace Adkins and it says, you're gonna miss this, right? And he's talking about raising the kids and things are hard and things are difficult and your job and your family and this and that or something else. And you know, you're gonna miss it. There are joys and there are beauty. Tanya N Smith (14:08.947) Right? Yeah. Yeah. Jen (14:35.286) all around us, all the time, even in the difficult times. And we have to stop and check in with ourselves and embrace the season that we're in and learn from it. Really dig in and learn from it to enjoy it before we move. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (14:48.307) Thank you. Tanya N Smith (14:53.031) Wise words. Jen (14:55.672) Kudos to you, friend! Tanya N Smith (14:57.427) Well, what I need to do is go back and read that chapter again called embrace in in our book because In that time period I believe I was doing that. I don't believe I've done it well Every single season since I wrote it or have I even thought about it, but it is my goal and I think it was on my mind and in my heart when I wrote it definitely but Yeah, I mean this too shall pass Jen (15:25.496) Sometimes we just need the reminder. Tanya N Smith (15:27.155) is a good and a bad thing, right? Okay. Well, thanks for quoting me. I didn't see that coming. Okay. Jen (15:29.708) Yeah. Yeah. Jen (15:34.414) Well, number three is that mistakes will be made. So plan for your discomfort. know, several years ago, my coach told me you need to pre plan. You need to prepare for prepare for difficult conversations ahead of time. Prepare for what resources are you going to need to get you through this season or this next difficult thing? And, you know, a lot of times we hop up and we put our boots on and we go out there and we try to do life and we, don't even think about really what we need to prepare ourselves for. And it was her wise words. Things are going to come up, prepare yourself ahead of time. Know that when you go to have this conversation, that's going to be difficult and walk into the discomfort knowing it's going to be uncomfortable, but I'm going to do it anyway. and so Tanya N Smith (16:10.193) No, we don't. Jen (16:31.434) in this self-acceptance moment, I'm gonna make mistakes. I'm gonna make mistakes every single day. And I need to plan for that to be painful and to hurt and to be patient with myself and to try again tomorrow. Tanya N Smith (16:48.631) that's so good. I have two things to add barely. Number one is, Jesus make this easy. The number of times a day that I say that to Jesus, Jesus make this easy. I'm about to encounter something that it's either uncomfortable. I'm not prepared for, I didn't expect whatever. And then the second thing is you said mistakes will be made and those aren't always mistakes made by us. Sometimes it's someone else's mistake. Jen (17:13.998) That's right. Tanya N Smith (17:17.127) that lands in our lap and you talk about learning how to be patient, planning for discomfort. Jen (17:25.282) That is so true. Absolutely. A fender bender, a word that someone says to you that just lands wrong or hurts your feeling. Choices are made, you know, loss. All of that comes at you not planned for, not prepared, not picked by you. But your discomfort is going to be off the charts. And we have to be prepared for that. Tanya N Smith (17:25.361) when it's like out of your control. Tanya N Smith (17:43.005) Right. Tanya N Smith (17:46.983) That's so true. Yes. Well, in the way that we prepare is by, I mean, what you said planning ahead, it's so brilliant because we have put this into action. You and I in different ways have talked about this throughout the year. Sean and I have talked about this. When something blindsides us, I mean, whether you want to talk about like someone driving badly on the interstate or a family member, whatever is having something or a friend, know, just whatever a coworker, like whatever you're dealing with, you decide ahead of time how you're going to react. Jen (18:20.142) Mm. Tanya N Smith (18:20.379) And you think, you can't do that. You can't decide in every situation how you're going to react, but you can decide to pause. And you can decide to pull back for a second and take a deep breath and not react until you have thought about it. And I just always like to think, what do I look like in the moments that I'm reacting? It can be very humbling. Let me tell you, can be very scary. Jen (18:39.95) Right. Yeah. Jen (18:46.796) I'm glad there's not a camera recording every moment of my life. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (18:49.403) Right, it's not the actual Truman Show. Okay, so good. Let's go on to your fourth suggestion. Jen (18:55.054) So this last one is maybe not a suggestion as much as a reminder that self-acceptance is not a resignation. I'm not giving up. Right. I'm not quitting all the things. What I'm doing is putting acceptance of myself and where I'm at and the season that I'm in ahead of anything that I want to remove. change, negate, leave, whatever the case may be. I'm putting at the top of my list to do is accepting right where I'm at right now. Tanya N Smith (19:36.751) I love that you clarified that because yes, I have sometimes thought self-acceptance means stop trying. And it can, but it doesn't have to if you reframe it in a different way. If you say, accept that I don't know everything I want to know about this topic so I can start from where I am and learn more. It's a more positive approach, right? Jen (20:05.59) Right. And you're giving yourself the grace. science is proven when we give our self-validation and acceptance, we're much more likely to change than if we're setting rules out for ourselves. And I know I've shared this story before, but the times that I said I'm going to get up at 5 a.m. and I'm going to exercise. Tanya N Smith (20:20.827) I don't Jen (20:32.972) And you're going to do it, Jennifer. And there's no excuses, right? And I do that four days in a row. And the fifth day, I'm like, yeah, I'm not getting up early to exercise. Right? And if I accept that, OK, this is not the way that works for Jennifer. Here's what works for Jennifer. Right? Tanya N Smith (20:41.8) Yeah. Tanya N Smith (20:50.349) there you go. Yes, I like that. I love the way you switch that because I can be real easy on myself. You know? Jen (20:58.094) Right, but we can also be very harsh on ourselves too and very critical. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (21:00.915) same time. That's so good. So instead of being like you no good dirty dog, you didn't get up when it was 5am and it was 40 degrees outside and go walking by yourself in the misery of the dawn, you would be like, maybe I should walk this afternoon. Jen (21:15.726) Maybe I should go ride the exercise bike. Maybe I should take the stairs at work several more times. There are options that I can give myself. Tanya N Smith (21:23.485) There you go. Jen (21:28.802) that don't have anything to do with me being critical about something that probably shouldn't have been in my life in the first place, right? A rule that I imposed on myself or a resolution that I imposed on myself that doesn't even really fit and doesn't get me to where I want to be anyway. I think that's key. It just doesn't get me to where I want to be. So why even put it up there? Tanya N Smith (21:42.895) Yeah, a made up rule. Yes. Okay, flashback. That's so good. I just had a flashback, you know, back in another life, I was a teacher and I remember very little about my time as a college student training to be a teacher. But I do remember that I took a summer class to learn how to teach physical education. I had to get up at the crack of dawn, drive 30 minutes and sit in a classroom to learn how to teach physical education. And I thought, this is ridiculous. What have I done with my life? But here's what I remember. One of the many things, mistakes, and they were mine. Okay, I remember two things, lying. I remember two things. The instructor had a different color of nail polish on every single day. It was a summer class. We met five days a week. Every single day, her nail polish matched her outfit. Hello. This was 1995. Jen (22:22.39) Mistakes have been made. Jen (22:43.093) Love. Love. Tanya N Smith (22:45.713) Okay, now something that actually matters. She told us this story that when she was first teaching physical education at her school, that she had a list of rules and she so happily wrote one through 10, do not touch the balls, know, whatever, do not do this. Absolutely no running here. And she had all of these 10 rules and she said they were very clear and easy to understand. And she was so proud of herself. And her principal came in and he looked at the rules for a little bit and he said, so these are the rules for your gym. And she said, yes, they are. And he said, OK, those are good rules. But I'm going to have you take them down. And I want you to rewrite them all without using no and do not. Jen (23:36.302) I had literally just got chills. Tanya N Smith (23:41.459) And this was back before, you know, we assumed people cared about kids. Jen (23:43.296) Right, conscious discipline and all the things. Yes, yes, when we knew nothing. Tanya N Smith (23:48.061) So, yeah, we knew nothing but this principal did. And he or she said, that's not the way to affect change and to gain the respect and to have a nurturing environment. Take them all down. I'm sorry, my septic alarm is going off. you give me just a second to text my husband. Okay, hang on. Jen (24:07.776) Okay, absolutely. Plan for discomfort. Tanya N Smith (24:14.267) Okay, this is a fun game we're playing. Jen (24:21.922) Let's just accept right where you're at and brace this season, Tanya. Tanya N Smith (24:25.137) Thank you, thank you, because it's hot. Can you hear it buzzing? That is alarming because I'm assuming the neighbors can. It is so loud because it's attached to this wall of which I am sitting in the room of. So. Jen (24:28.684) I cannot at all. Jen (24:34.648) Wow, okay. Well, I wanna... Jen (24:40.556) Wow, I want to give a shout out to the mics that are only picking up your voice and not that your home is melting down currently. Tanya N Smith (24:49.139) I just heard Sean open the door to go outside. Okay, so here's what happened today at 6 a.m. I pulled the big dogs inside at 6 45 a.m. A crew showed up to take my roof off and put it back on from the May damage from the May damage. What? How can that be Tanya? It's February 2025. That's what I'm saying. It takes a long time when everyone in Benton County needs a new roof. And then in the process of that, we had to call a plumber who said, Oh, you need a new septic pump. And I was just like, what am I, an ATM? So Sean, we're just, it's hemorrhaging over here is what I'm saying to you. It's hemorrhaging. I can hear Sean out there like pressing buttons right now trying to get everything to be quiet. Jen (25:22.36) No. Jen (25:31.574) horrible I'm so sorry Tanya N Smith (25:39.331) I predict there'll be a plumber here in a few minutes. What do you think? Jen (25:42.476) I think you're going to get a plumber in the middle of the night. Yes. Tanya N Smith (25:46.149) my word. Okay, well we're just gonna keep going. We're gonna push on because it is very important to me to tell the story with you. I feel safe telling these stories with you because you point out to the listeners all of the gaps and you explain me really well. Like a translator, if you will. True story, I woke up at the end of January and I realized something huge about myself. Jen (25:50.914) I love it. Tanya N Smith (26:14.653) that I had been living in survival mode since, for me, I can measure it since the end of May. We had a lot of things happen around here all at once, and I truly thought I was handling them one at a time, doing a great job. Like, knock that one down, give me another. Knock that one down, give me another. And I noticed one day that the systems Jen (26:17.006) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (26:42.877) that I had previously relied on to help order my thoughts and organize my days. Those had not even been thought of since the end of May. Tanya N Smith (26:55.567) And I do not use the term survival mode lightly. I'm not using that lightly in this situation. Let me read to you the definition that I found on the Google machine. And this is from jcmh.org. It stands for some name. Survival mode is essentially booting, as a computer term, in safe mode. Things like trauma, prolonged grief, and even just burnout can cause our brains to opt into booting this way. It basically, our brain is entering survival mode. Do you remember back when we had the big computers where we would turn them on in safe mode? So if there was a virus, the virus would not attack the computer and bring it down? Jen (27:34.978) you Tanya N Smith (27:44.039) That's what it's talking about. And survival mode clicks us into suppressing something within us in our brain. So anyway, what I've learned is any short or long term, very stressful experience can be traumatizing. And we can't measure it against someone else's trauma. So you know the trauma responses. Fight, flight. Jen (27:44.184) Right. Jen (28:10.094) don't know. Tanya N Smith (28:11.549) freeze and then the one that we all now understand that is, yeah, fun. So what I've learned again from this website that these result in your body saying, I will only do essential functions. That is all I'm capable. Jen (28:15.118) Yeah. Jen (28:28.014) Right. It's like COVID when essential workers were the only ones allowed to go and do the work, right? Everyone else had to stay home. Tanya N Smith (28:36.723) 100 % yes. Jen (28:38.198) Yeah, and your body is like, we're only, we're now I'm doing the bare minimum. We're keeping the lights on. That's about it. All extra activities will be paused. Tanya N Smith (28:48.241) Right. Right. Food in mouth, lights on, lights off. Do it over again the next day. Did we survive it? Yes, we did. Okay, we did something right. Keep going. Jen (28:59.918) Yeah. Tanya N Smith (29:02.739) Okay, back to this website. We often have a lack of focus. I'm raising my hand. A feeling of, wait, what just happened? Like the feeling of reading something five times over and you still don't know what you just read, what it's about, or even listening to it. You feel like you're operating on a short fuse or you're just simply exhausted and procrastinating things that you wouldn't usually procrastinate. because your higher functioning brain has shut down in favor of base survival. Jen (29:34.68) Wow, as you're reading that, I'm curious, like, what's your response to that knowing that has been you for months? Tanya N Smith (29:45.869) I was very surprised that I had not checked in with myself sooner. I thought I knew myself better than that. And I thought I was above it. Jen (29:52.686) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (29:57.415) Yeah, I really did. And then people saying, you're doing a great job. You're doing such a great, you know, you're doing such a great job. look at you, you're doing a great job. And I thought, I must be doing a great job. Tanya N Smith (30:10.597) On the outside, I do believe I was. On the inside, I believe I was struggling a Jen (30:15.906) Yeah, yeah. I think we're. Tanya N Smith (30:17.329) You know, and isn't that what we kind of have learned to do in our lives? Keep it inside. You gotta move forward. You got, know. Jen (30:26.84) You're going to get up every day and you're going to keep going. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (30:29.095) Yeah. I'm hearing Joshua like yelling back and forth with Sean in the backyard. And I just don't think it sounds good. I just think something's going. Jen (30:37.07) I love that this whole scenario at your home is basically mirroring what we're saying. We're just accepting it. I don't know, we're just accepting it. It's fine. Tanya N Smith (30:44.147) It is so... Like, we're up to here in sewage. Jen (30:52.75) totally fine. Tanya N Smith (30:52.849) Moving on, doing a podcast like it's not even happening. Jen (30:56.174) That is clearly someone else's gig. I don't even know. Tanya N Smith (31:01.039) okay. So reading this article, this helped me. Okay, first of all, sitting down and Googling survival mode opened my mind to girl, that's you. And I think it's other people. Jen (31:05.954) We have. Jen (31:11.31) Sure. Jen (31:15.286) Okay, well let me go back to what we just said. The best way to make a change in anything is to understand what it is and why it is. Tanya N Smith (31:22.951) That's it. That's it. Because I didn't know how to help myself because I didn't know what I was helping. I just didn't know. Here's what I learned. And you have told me these things. Here it is written out in one sentence. Well, two. There are three ways of responding to manage and prevent survival mode. Self-compassion. who just said that? Self-regulation. who said that? Embrace. Jen (31:24.887) Yeah Tanya N Smith (31:51.545) and self-care. who said that? That was you. Self-compassion, self-regulation. I know what I'm gonna do when it happens to me. I'm gonna pre-plan. Self-care. I'm gonna accept where I am and not be ashamed of it. Gonna move on. Okay, I have to text them because the alarm just went off again. Jen (31:59.854) Mm-hmm. Jen (32:14.252) I love it. We're just going to accept right where we're at. Tanya's self-regulating her emotions right now and caring for the family. Jen (32:28.654) You know, we really wanted to bring a real life scenario to the podcast today. Tanya N Smith (32:34.574) my word. Jen (32:36.876) Yeah. Tanya N Smith (32:38.043) Okay, yeah, I'm trying to, yes, I'm trying to self-regulate right now because I'm like, why? Why? Here's what I think. We must have something really good to say to people because it's very difficult to complete this podcast. Jen (32:43.447) Yeah. Jen (32:48.992) It's very difficult tonight. It's very difficult tonight, for sure. Tanya N Smith (32:53.819) Well, again, that if you want, if you feel like you've been in survival mode, it would not surprise me friends is what I'm saying because it snuck up on me and one day turned into the next, turned into the next. And here's what I ended up saying to Sean. Now let me, I'm not far removed from this, nor have I completely popped out of this mode because it was just days ago I said to Sean, my goodness, I only do two things a day. Jen (33:04.462) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (33:23.215) I am not okay. And he said, Jen (33:25.87) You're just becoming aware of what is happening to you. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (33:32.273) Yeah, just now. So I'm going to work on self-compassion, self-regulation, especially when my septic alarm is screaming in my ear while I'm podcasting. And I think I do a pretty good job of self-care. So I'm going to be like, you know what? Good job. Keep it up. Keep it up. But yeah. Jen (33:51.682) Keep it up. You're doing well. Well, one of my favorite questions to ask you all the time is how are you resourcing yourself? How are you taking care of yourself? And so let's just have a mini coaching session right now. How are you resourcing yourself now that we know where you are and how you are? Tanya N Smith (34:00.025) Okay, I love it when you ask me that question. I love it when you ask me that. Jen (34:15.842) What are the ways that you're going to support yourself? Tanya N Smith (34:20.037) Okay, I am going back to time blocking my days. And this is not because I'm trying to regulate and what am I trying to militarize my life? It's because like I heard someone say recently, if you have a dog, what do you want to do? You want to build the dog offense? Why do you build the dog offense? Cause you want it to run around and enjoy its life. So when I time block my days, it means, Jen (34:34.274) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (34:48.623) On Tuesdays, that day is all about this instead of everyone else's. Or Thursdays, that is self-care day from morning to evening. You get to do that whole day. Jen (34:52.472) Yeah. Jen (34:58.99) Wow, so you're building yourself in some self care by blocking your time. You know that you cannot completely rearrange the schedule, obviously, and there are things that you're not gonna be able to manage time-wise because they're gonna get pushed to you. But you are setting up time to care for yourself and blocking time for the things that matter. Tanya N Smith (35:03.731) Mm-hmm. Tanya N Smith (35:09.523) Mm-mm. Tanya N Smith (35:22.887) That's the only way I know how to do it. I don't know another way. Jen (35:24.928) As your coach, I'm giving you two enthusiastic thumbs up on that. I do, yes. You're putting yourself back on the schedule and you haven't been on the schedule for a minute. Tanya N Smith (35:29.073) All you do? Let me tell you, that makes me so happy. Tanya N Smith (35:36.571) I am. you know, another thing that I appreciate about the awareness of survival mode is spiritual wellness. Jen (35:46.126) Hmm. Tanya N Smith (35:48.027) I heard that in a way that I had not heard it before, I think, you know, that's one of the, one of the reasons why I've enjoyed growing older is because I do hear things the same way, but different, you know what I mean? That's it. But it does suggest like we're burned out and we can't see the bigger picture anymore. And that is one of the reasons why our brain clicks to survival mode because we haven't stopped and like, Jen (36:00.066) Yes, I hear the same things, but they land differently. Yeah. Tanya N Smith (36:17.075) Maybe for me, for me it's journaling and having like, I can see my one year, three year, five year goals or what I want to do this week or today. But I have to see, I have to visually see it. I forget, I forget so fast. But when I stopped seeing that bigger picture burnout, because I'm like, I don't remember why I was doing that small thing in that way. Yeah. So like, Jen (36:40.362) Right. I've forgotten. Right. Tanya N Smith (36:46.771) I work so hard on myself and I work so hard on the job that I'm doing, but the fruits of my labor, they come out as skittles instead of watermelons. And I'm like, now, what am I doing this for? You know? Jen (36:58.39) love that. Say that again. Tanya N Smith (37:05.263) As like, for instance, right now, my house is literally falling down around me, but no, I'm kidding. It's not, it's all okay. It's figure outable. But no, the fruits of my labor sometimes come, they are picked as Skittles and I was expecting watermelons. The watermelon is coming. Like, but I forgot the bigger picture and that's hard for me to deal with. Jen (37:08.054) Okay. Jen (37:13.304) Yeah, it is. Jen (37:22.03) you Yeah. Tanya N Smith (37:28.859) And that makes me feel burned out and that makes me feel hopeless and that makes me forget all of my systems and then just boom, I'm back in survival mode again. Jen (37:37.302) Yeah, you get kind of tied down to where you're at and you can only narrow the focus on one tiny little thing. It's like Mark, my husband Mark all the time says it's the broken nail syndrome where it's like there's 50 death by a million paper cuts. There's 50 million things and then you break a fingernail and then that's just you can't cope, right? That's just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. Tanya N Smith (37:38.236) So yeah. Tanya N Smith (38:00.945) That is so true. That is so true. I'm sorry, I'm gonna text real quick. Are we addressing the alarm? So, do you like that? Jen (38:08.302) I love how you said that. Are we addressing the alarm? See, I would have texted 911? Tanya N Smith (38:21.331) What is happening in my life right now? Jen (38:21.39) So we are addressing the alarm is what I'm hearing you say. Tanya N Smith (38:25.681) No, they just said we don't hear an alarm. And I'm like, what? can you not hear an alarm? What's happening? happening. Okay so anyway this is funny I'm so glad this is happening why it's happening but anyway you've got to I have to remember how to feel excited about something again because the original excitement like it wanes and I forget what I'm doing anything for so Jen (38:37.368) my goodness. Jen (38:50.734) Yeah. Jen (38:56.046) for sure. Tanya N Smith (38:59.827) Anyway, that's where, that's okay. That was where, that's where I am. Like everything's okay. Nothing terrible has happened in my life. I just got off track and burdened down by a lot of things at once, like everyone does. And I let myself absolutely fall under the weight of that. And so there we go. I'm just saying it could happen to you too. And if it does self-compassion, self-regulation and self-care, just like you told us in those four ways of moving forward. Jen (39:00.067) guess. Tanya N Smith (39:29.997) I'm going to go back up to those because they're so good. You said the best way to change anything is to understand what it is and why it is. And then we talked about go ahead and embrace that season that you are in. Mistakes will be made. We need to plan for the discomfort and be patient. And then fourth and finally, we're not resigning. We're not giving up. We are moving forward while understanding where we're starting from. Jen (39:59.522) Right. And I think that's so key in the story that you just told about yourself. Now that you're understanding where you're starting from or where you're currently at, why it's happening and what it is, you can come in and triage yourself and take care of yourself and resource yourself to the next place. Right. And so you're not, you're not quitting. You're not resigning. You're supporting yourself in a way to make meaningful change without prescribing to yourself a regiment and list of dos and don'ts. Just like in your story with the the gym teacher and the principal. doesn't have to be don't do this. It could simply say be, I see where I'm at. I didn't realize I was here. This isn't exactly where I want to be. This is the perspective I want to have. This is the joy that I want to put back in my life. Tanya N Smith (40:40.509) So true. Jen (40:58.328) Here's what I'm really attempting with these resolutions or these rules or these goals. Here's what I'm really attempting to obtain is that are a better way to obtain that than getting up at 5 a.m. and exercising in the cold and dark. Absolutely there's better ways to do it. There's better ways to take care of yourself than setting up rules. Tanya N Smith (41:21.959) I'm so glad you're here today. Thank you for talking us through this. I cannot imagine a better conversation, a more timely conversation, a more helpful way of learning how to move forward and process through things that we're processing through. We're going to do this again, right? Jen (41:38.35) I would love to do this again. I love the thought of having conversations to support ourselves, to grow, to learn, and to learn to take care of ourselves. Tanya N Smith (41:50.987) me too. Okay, friends, hey, that's all for today. Junie's Party, Chocolate Coke and Little Rock
Welcome to Season 6, Episode 159 of The Superlatively Yes Podcast. Jasa and I have been running in circles this week, but unfortunately, not the same circles. We talk about Junie's over-the-top birthday celebration (which led Quincy to a new dog sitter,) my time doing some in-state work traveling with Shawn, and then I introduce Jasa to an old favorite childhood beverage of mine: Chocolate Coke. I quickly drove through Jasa's hometown of Bee Branch, Arkansas, yesterday and couldn't wait to tell her all about it. We recapped The Golden Bachelorette, and I did a little shopping in Little Rock that I was happy to tell Jasa about. We tried out a new intro and outro and can't wait to hear what you think about it. As always, thanks for spending time with us! We sure do love you! Fashion Panic, A Sugar High and Fall Hosting Ideas
Sweet encouragers, aren't you so thankful for second chances? Full disclosure; Tanya and I recorded a complete podcast on Tuesday of last week and we trashed it because I forgot how to podcast. Tanya patiently waited for me to calm down for the week and this is what we like to call the "Take Two Podcast". Excitement dominates from the beginning as Tanya speaks from the joy in her heart over the Razorback victory on Saturday. The whole city cheered and celebrated until the wee hours of the night. Woo Pig! I recap the weekend Leighton and I shared with Point of Grace and the Circle of Friends weekend. We enjoy catching up on TV and movies, as well as, Tanya's very appropriately timed cute and fun segment. I gush over Prince William, Nicole Kidman, and Bananas Foster dessert. The dogs make an appearance as we discuss their varied love languages. Thank you for joining our conversation today as we kick off season 6 with a trip to Denver, some quick wardrobe changes, and more hilarious "Tails From the Dog Park." Tanya loved her trip to Denver and told all about the details and Jasa filled us in on what we didn't want to know about food. It was a fun reunion and, of course, way too long, per usual. But all in good, clean fun. We love you - thanks for hanging out here! Pumpkins, Mansplaining and Dances with Lovey
Beloved audience, I have a vacation destination recommendation that gets five out of five stars and Tanya has a precision television recommendation that gets a zero out of five stars. We're bringing it all to you and we call it as we see it! I've been to Dreams Onyx in Punta Cana with the cutest kids in the whole USA and Tanya has been doing "choring bores" because her house continues to try to kill her but she has on a happy face because fall weather is landing in Little Flock. Starbucks says so. Pumpkin spice, Razorback football, and Caitlyn Clark come bubbling out of her today and I feel equally as bubbly because of vacay memories, Quincee stories, and cowboy accessories. Shep keeps us both laughing and Suz is a ray of sunshine as she blesses us with her very own cute and fun segment for the week. Thank you for stopping by! You Just Never Know: Pigs, Orcas and Bathroom Stalls
Here is the second ½ of Tanya and me catching up on life as we know it. Tanya gets tickled as I tell of some traumatic events that occurred on the cruise ship. I can't even reel her in to appreciate that I actually got to see my very first orca in Alaska; no pun intended. We laugh with Leighton and Suz for excitedly buying all of us matching Bippity Boppity Boo t-shirts for Junie's upcoming 2nd birthday celebration, later realizing that they were actually Alice in Wonderland. Tanya ends the show with her version of "wee, wee, wee, all the way home". Enjoy each other! Adventures at Sea and Encounters with Pigs
Come on in! Welcome to Episode 153! Tanya gets "voluntold" to watch the new "Twisters" movie with Shawn and gets twisted up in a storm of her own when she and Jen go to see "This Ends with Us". This creates a (Blake) Lively discussion. Shepherd, the introvert, gives a list of reasons why he couldn't answer his friend's phone call, knowing Tanya would understand. I have a fun time talking all about our latest cruise, including the story about our cruise friend. Lily, who always gives us gifts. This time we give her some Nashville originals, wrapped up in a cowboy hat that made her day. This is the first half of our fun, but we have so very much to say that we are forced to record episode 153 ½. Thank you for joining us! I'm your host Tanya. Jasa (00:08.293) your other host Jasa. Are we just on a first name basis Tanya (00:12.069) You know, I think it's Jasa (00:17.587) So we are, I've forgotten how to podcast. I have been a million miles since I sat behind this microphone. We are sharing episodes every week here on Patreon, including some people have commented they really love the video version. So those are here on Patreon. And as always, the membership is dirt cheap, $5 a month. The address is patreon .com slash super yes. So there's really no good reason anyone to be left out of the fun. Tanya (00:48.344) Yeah, we have some series on there that are really exciting and fun and we hope you can join us to listen to those. But today, I'm stealing your line. Jasa (00:57.543) Today we are talking about Mariah's wedding. Tanya's past two weeks, my Alaskan cruise and a really amazing party I helped host last night that has me absolutely exhausted today but also floating because of the goodness and we have missed you. So thank you for being patient with our crazy schedules and hanging out with us today. Tanya (01:22.542) We really have so much to talk about today. So here we go. Tanya (01:33.996) I'm not sure if you noticed our music didn't upload in our last podcast, so there was just awkward silences abounding. Jasa (01:42.257) Well, I'm glad we've learned to be comfortable with awkward silence, because we hear it, we hear the silence every week. Tanya (01:48.79) Right, yes, and it is a little bit awkward, but you know, what I want to say to you is welcome home from your journey. Jasa (01:57.031) Thank you, was an amazing journey, still reeling, trying to catch up on sleep because it was a busy, cruise. But you know, I said to Cliff, it's kind of like working on the dairy farm, especially during hay season. We just worked all day every day and just practically fell into bed, but it was just fulfilling, satisfying work. And you know, to see the joy on all 2 ,000 faces of the passengers. that had paid to be on a Gaither cruise and to see their enthusiasm and their excitement. And so many of them, it's a once in a lifetime trip. They have saved for this, they have planned for this, this is the last thing they're ever going to do, a big trip. First time seeing Alaska, first time seeing the Gaithers live. It was great. It was absolutely phenomenal. Look at my Sandy Patty cap. Tanya (02:49.634) Your Sandy Patty cap is phenomenal. Yeah, the first thing I noticed was that you had that on. Jasa (02:55.679) It is adorable. So we've sold out because they were such a hit, but I think we're getting more. Mm -hmm. Cause you need one. I need you to have one. Mm -hmm. -huh. It is. It is. Tanya (03:01.1) Really? Okay. Well, you need to put my name down. Yeah, I do need one. Well, first of all, they're cute. They're black and white. That's my colors. That's my whole aesthetic is black and white. And they're just they're just pretty. So yeah, I'll I will wear Sandy Patty merch any old day of the week. I would love that. Yeah. So so a lot has happened while you've been gone friend. I want to hear all about you though first. I just want to Jasa (03:15.889) Mm -hmm. Jasa (03:23.739) I want you to because I'm telling you I've already started telling you stories this morning and you were like save it for the podcast Because not only I mean we had this huge cruise which was huge huger than huge and then had this party last night that was incredible and you know before I went on the cruise I flew into Virginia for a few days and Felt I mean there's I feel how am I trying to say this? There's nowhere else that I feel more love than with my grandkids Nobody is that excited about me coming. And so the joy of my heart, my heart is still soaring from that. I just cannot get over it. Like, they're to the point now that it's like, Lovey, sit by me. Lovey, sit by me. And just super, super sweet. Lovey, I want to show you something. It was so, so sweet. So anyway, I say all that to say start first. Because I barely know. Tanya (04:19.042) Well, I mean, I hate to start first. I hate to start first. Well. Jasa (04:21.883) barely know what you've done. I had so little time on the cruise and I missed you. I would just send you the text going, I missed you. What am I missing? Tanya (04:29.966) I'm so busy, I can't talk, I miss you. Well, what I was also gonna talk to you about is you got caught up in trying to get to Virginia and then flights being canceled and then Cliff, yeah. And then, yeah. Jasa (04:40.25) Yes! If my husband was not magical when it comes to flights, wouldn't have gotten to go. But you know, with that IT thing that affected Delta the most, like, I'm just glad he knew a workaround. Like he called him and said, I need a workaround. This is important that she gets there. And so he got me there. But there are people have horror stories of missing. Well, mean, Point of Grace just told me yesterday they were in Michigan and had to be in North Carolina and they delaying, delaying, ended up canceling their flight. They had to get on a different airline, fly to Nashville, rent a car, drive to Asheville. The show started at 730. They got there at 8 .05. They had to get on stage in their travel clothes by 8 .15 and everybody just went with it. And I was telling them, you know what, as an audience member, we love being a part of something like that. Tanya (05:19.575) No. Jasa (05:37.915) Their flight was canceled. They're driving in. And so they just got up there in their travel clothes and it was just a ball. But it's happening all over the country, all over the world. Tanya (05:47.98) Wow, what a story. I didn't know that happened to Point of Grace. They're just such professionals. Jasa (05:50.949) Yeah, well that was just yesterday. Yeah, it just happened like they got home from Asheville yesterday. So it was the day before yesterday that they were in Michigan trying to get to North Carolina and then what am I asked? Tanya (06:04.802) Yeah, so there's this new kind of a thing on social media. I don't know if you've seen it yet where people are saying, if I can't drive there, I won't go there. And I'm not opposed to that. Not that... Jasa (06:12.485) Mmm. Jasa (06:16.027) I think you've been saying that for a really long time. You started that. Yeah, you started that before it was cool. So if it's trending, it's only because you started Tanya (06:18.83) What, 30 years? Tanya (06:25.216) It's basically the Tanya movement. If you, if I can't drive Jasa (06:27.437) It is the team. Hashtag me too. Tanya (06:32.578) And I'm fine to stay the night and then drive some more and then stay the night and then drive some more and enjoy things along the way. you know, so, I mean, that doesn't always work if you're going overseas or like say to Alaska, but anyway, it works. Jasa (06:36.667) Yeah. a great plan. Jasa (06:46.213) Right. Yeah. It works for you. Tanya (06:48.928) I say that, but you know Shawn drove to Alaska. Jasa (06:52.517) Did he? did, what did he drive up there for? Tanya (06:53.27) Yeah, yeah, he talked to Alaska So it turned out to be a life -changing experience. He went with a guy by the last name of Prophet. I don't even remember all the details. I'll tell you when it was. It was when Josh was in the hospital in Little Rock having his appendectomy. Shawn got a phone call from a friend, and he was like, would you like to join us on this Alaskan adventure? Jasa (07:14.947) He was up, he was already gone. Tanya (07:27.372) We are being sponsored by, they were doing a documentary, so we were being sponsored by this major television station and this documentarist, and we're driving this one of a kind land cruiser that in this, yeah. So this land cruiser has made it all over the world, being driven by a lot of different people, but mostly by this one particular family in Utah. Jasa (07:40.987) knew it had to do with the Land Cruiser. I just couldn't remember the details. Tanya (07:55.466) Anyway, Sean said, bet, I'll go in a heartbeat. So Josh went out of the hospital at midnight because you know, they keep you until your insurance runs out. And then they're like, may the odds be ever in your favor. Yeah. So I said, will sleep in a hotel next door. I'm not going any further. Like my little kid just had an appendectomy. So we stayed in a hospital right next door. We got up the next morning. Josh was feeling just fine. He was bouncing back. Sean stopped at Jasa (08:04.424) huh. See you. Peace out dude. Tanya (08:22.528) some sort of an outdoor store because we didn't have a lot of them way back in the olden days. He got everything he needed because they were living out of the Land Cruiser. They weren't doing hotels. So he got everything that he would need to survive in, I don't know, what is it called? The Alaskan Tundra? What's it even called? Jasa (08:33.508) Whoa. Jasa (08:42.577) don't know, but everything Sean needs would fit in a travel size case. All he needs is the essentials. Remember when he forgot his comb? And then he used something else for a comb? What did he use? A fork? Tanya (08:53.134) What did he use? I forgot. Jasa (08:59.503) We're talking marine survivalists here. It does not take much for Sean Smith to travel. But you know what? You balance the two of you out, so. Tanya (09:05.472) It doesn't. Right? Clearly. Yeah, clearly. He can just keep a go bag in the back of his car and he can go anywhere at any time. Always ready to go. And I'm like, but I need some notice, sir. I can't do that. I have some things to plan out. Sorry. I'm, I'm carrying what I'm calling my smoker's cough. It's still my lingering COVID cough. And Sean said, where is it in Jasa (09:09.959) Clearly. Jasa (09:20.283) SIR Jasa (09:30.032) huh. Tanya (09:32.696) throat or in your lungs. And I'm like, hopefully in my throat, so. Jasa (09:35.675) Yeah, hopefully. Let me ask one other thing. What did this have to do with Sean and Josh going to Utah? Wasn't that a Toyota thing? Tanya (09:45.174) So they met, Sean became really good friends with these men. You know, when you sleep together in a Land Cruiser. I think there was a cameraman. Jasa (09:48.517) Right, that's what I thought. Right. Was it just the two of them in the Land Cruiser? hoping. Tanya (09:59.694) So it was either three or four people. Jasa (10:02.545) my word. Tanya (10:03.842) Yeah, I they would sleep in the middle like they would set up little things to make sure the bear didn't come after them They they bathed in the hot springs, you know They did all the Alaskan things and then you know There was a documentarian who like produced the the video it pretty cool stuff. Honestly pretty cool stuff You know, I haven't thought listen I haven't thought about it until this very moment. So I have no clue but I will get that information to you Yeah, it Jasa (10:09.661) wow. Jasa (10:19.397) Where can we say this? Have you ever seen it? Jasa (10:28.667) I would love to see that. That is fascinating. Tanya (10:32.172) So he became friends with these guys, they were like, a couple years later when Josh got older, well, they were always saying, come visit us, come visit us. So then they started saying, hey, come visit us. We'll go on this expedition. We'll go on this ride. We'll go on this. We'll go on that. And then Sean became introduced to family after family. And so now it's just part of our extended Utah family. Jasa (10:50.171) Mm yeah, that's so cool. I love that. So rugged. Tanya (10:54.826) and New Mexico family. Do you remember that time that we had, which is why I don't go. Do you remember that time that we had COVID and I was stuck in Vegas and we drove home because, Jasa (11:04.535) huh. Yeah. 100 % Tanya (11:07.96) So we had to come through New Mexico. spent the night there, because you have to stop at some point. And I remember walking in, and the lady at the front desk was like, she just held her hands out. And I was like, can I get a room? And she was like, I guess. And I was like, OK, do you have a room? And she's like, I don't know. Nobody knew what was happening. So we Jasa (11:28.571) Well, and I was home because I had it. And I was, remember I was patient zero in Pope County and people were talking about me on Facebook, but they didn't know it was me. They're like, we've heard somebody has COVID and we demand to know where she works. Because I got it from Sandy. Well, Sandy and I got it together. We all got it because, and it all started, this woman came in coughing at the concert. We all, we all have her face in our minds. Tanya (11:46.648) You did! Tanya (11:50.232) Mm -hmm. Jasa (11:56.817) to this day, but we all ended up with COVID and didn't even know what it was. So I'm home and you're the one traveling with COVID. So we're trying to get you home and we don't know the rules. I mean, at least I was home and we did not know the rules. It was, what a time, what a time for you to be gone. Tanya (12:11.726) Sweet Sandy Patty. She told me that story. During your wedding, we were talking about the whole COVID thing. And she said to me, she told me this story and she said this, the sweet lady came up to her and she was like, snot was coming out of her nose. She was sweating. She was feverish. And she was coughing, like, you know, hacking. And then she's like, I just had to come see you, Sandy. Like she came and like went through the line afterwards to Jasa (12:40.295) She did, she did. Tanya (12:41.784) to like hug her and Sandy was like, and yeah, that was too late by then. It was too late. Jasa (12:47.787) But we did not, at the time we did not really know. I mean it was, it all happened that weekend. It literally, you know, everything was open when we were at that concert and everything was closed by the time we got home. Like it really, that was some weekend. Yeah, and then you're trying to come home. Tanya (12:51.128) Nobody knew COVID. Tanya (13:01.262) I remember somebody from Russellville, I was talking to weeks later, if not months later, and I said, yeah, JSA, I ratted you out is what I did. Because back then it took six weeks to find out if you were positive or not. And so, that's right. Because know, such organization when the COVID hits. But okay, so maybe it was months later. Jasa (13:15.931) Yeah, well by this point. It really did. Well, they lost my results. Yeah. Tanya (13:30.815) I mentioned to someone about you having COVID and they said, is she the one? Jasa (13:39.555) Yeah, she was the one. Tanya (13:40.558) Yeah, you're both famous and infamous, my dear, for bringing COVID Jasa (13:45.958) Well, and the funniest thing about it is we, had gotten, I was hosting the youth group at my house and I mean, it just couldn't have been anywhere. So I'd cooked fettuccine Alfredo for the entire youth group. Everyone came over. We had gotten a new couch. Everybody was wanting to try out the new couch. So we're all snuggled up together and everybody knew I had been with Sandy because everybody's like, tell us about being with Sandy. And I was telling everybody and stuff. then, that night after everyone leaves, Cliff texted me and was like, Sandy has COVID and then it was on Instagram. So then everybody knew. And so then everybody's like, no, we're going to get tested because of Jason. All night for me to be cooking and hosting and snuggling. Yeah. So it's sent. Yeah. I really, I was a super spreader for sure. Didn't know. I thought it was still in China. I had no idea it made its way across Tanya (14:29.634) Right! Yes! Jasa (14:43.461) way to America, I had no idea Tanya (14:46.102) Okay, that's hilarious. I don't know why we were talking about that. because when we stopped in New Mexico, some of those friends, family, lived there, and Sean said, we're coming through New Mexico, and they were like, we got you, we got you. We're gonna take you to eat where we know that it's open and you can go eat. So they took care of us in New Mexico, and then we ended up making it home. But I don't know why we got off on that subject, but that's maybe. Jasa (15:13.947) Because of the Land Cruiser family. Your extended family. Your extended cruising family. Tanya (15:16.078) because the Land Cruiser family. And I was sitting in an Airbnb in Las Vegas by myself because we had rented it for 12 people. Nobody showed up but Sean and I. This huge mansion of a home which is kind of scary when you're by yourself. And then, you know, I had done my shopping, whatever. And then Sean was at a meeting and I was watching like all these planes landing and they're like, we're not letting these people off. They've been on there for 12 hours. We think someone on there is infected. And I thought, Jasa (15:25.411) I remember, I remember this. Jasa (15:42.587) my word. That's terrifying. Tanya (15:45.678) I'm not getting on a plane. I'm not getting on a plane and someone say, we're just going to have to circle for the end of time. And then once we land, you're going to need to stay on here for about four to six business weeks. I'm not doing that. So we rented a vehicle, the last vehicle. People were getting out of Dodge is what they were doing when they were in Vegas. And you knew it was bad when they shut down the buffets. Jasa (15:47.515) Mm -mm. Jasa (16:11.503) Absolutely. Tanya (16:13.836) I think they just brought those back. don't know. Hopefully there's some sort of sneeze guard situation, but anyway. Okay, so welcome home. Jasa (16:16.57) Yeah. Jasa (16:22.417) Thank you, thank you, I'm glad to be home for a few days. Tanya (16:25.986) Well, while you were gone, I attended the most beautiful wedding. Jasa (16:31.035) I would love to have seen that girl get married. I bet she looked stunning. Tell everything. Tanya (16:38.19) She was stunning her dress. It was an off the shoulder draping situation. And then she had a beaded, it was just the most gorgeous beaded clip -in veil that went the length to the floor. And then her long, beautiful auburn hair. It was very vintage, very elegant. I kept saying the word elegant. This entire thing is just so elegant. It was extremely Jasa (16:54.011) Really? That's so vintage. Tanya (17:08.15) intimate and personal, know, not a lot of people were there. And it was just so beautiful. They read their vows to each other. They each had a little notebook. know, Mariah would like turn the page and read and turn the page. It was funny. It was sentimental. It was meaningful. It was personalized. Everything there was, it just reflected them so beautifully. And then we, we went the little chat of the little reception area which is new because you had your wedding shower in this chapel a wedding shower in this Jasa (17:42.339) I did. One of the best days of my life. Thank you, Suzanne Gaitley and Layton for hosting the shower and then the people that came and the prayers that were prayed and the gifts that were given and the hugs that were given. It was such, I mean, I'm still floating from that. I would say that is one of the top five best days of my life. Tanya (17:48.019) Mm -hmm. Tanya (18:10.06) I would agree. was there. Jennifer and I were there. It was so spectacular. Well, since that time they've added on a reception hall, which is small, quaint, beautiful. The wedding planner did a beautiful job, keeping everything going. Sorry with the phlegm. I'm Jasa (18:11.94) And now, you are. Jasa (18:29.799) Well and it's called Gately Heals, Gately Gardens. Yes, because Crystal Malloy, they're building it themselves. Josh built it themselves. She grows the flowers. It's a real turnkey wedding venue. So yes, we've been friends with Crystal and Josh for a very long time and she took the engagement, surprise engagement pictures for Layton and Hunter. and then she did our wedding photography. So she has had a lot of experience in weddings and it was just, she, they are the perfect couple to do this. And so I'm thrilled every time I see a wedding there and that they're growing and everything. So, I mean, can you believe she grows her own flowers for it? Is anything more turnkey than that? Tanya (19:16.566) Absolutely not. In fact, the flowers were so beautiful. I took a video of the venue for you and Jen and I sent it to both of you, right? Didn't I send it to you guys? And those lime light hydrangeas, hydrangeas. I don't know which part I'm supposed to say a short A or a long A, but they're everywhere all over Northwest Arkansas. And then she had the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. So if it ever stops being as hot as the underbelly of hell itself, I am going to go to and buy some of those and I'm going to just drown my house in lime light hydrangeas. They're beautiful. Jasa (19:52.441) I'm glad that you love them so much. Tanya (19:56.11) But so besides the wedding being meaningful and precious and kind and beautifully done, Mariah and Chance had a newspaper, like a newspaper. And it was rolled and it was wrapped in this beautiful gold something or another at everybody's place. And while they were having pictures, we could look through this. And the front was like the cover was them. Jasa (20:24.793) I Tanya (20:26.124) Like they were the main story. And then inside was all these little tidbits and facts about them. And there was even a crossword puzzle, which was answers for the day's events. Like what was the pastor's name? And it was so creative. So we enjoyed looking at that. They had little pens for everyone, and they were monogrammed with their name. No detail was left untouched. Here's what I thought was really, really neat. Jasa (20:39.557) Goodness, that is so unique. Tanya (20:54.274) Mariah did a dance with her father, of course, with Michael. But they didn't play the entire dance because Mariah was like, unless you're doing, you know, like a dance dance, that's a long time for people to watch you dance. So they just took a snippet of the song and that ended the dance. And then later on her and Chance did the same thing. Or maybe I have that reversed. But anyway, both times it was just a small snippet of the song so we could see them and watch them dance. I thought that was a brilliant idea. Jasa (21:05.645) I agree. Jasa (21:24.485) That is a brilliant idea. Tanya (21:26.35) Yeah, because unless you have some sort of choreographed, well thought out, you know, swing dance, 60 seconds is enough. 90 seconds is enough. Jasa (21:36.219) Well, think Shep and I have already decided what we're going to dance to when he gets married. You know, my little 17 year old, if he ever gets married, is because I was with someone the other day that said that her husband and his mom started out dancing slowly and then they ended up doing the Napoleon Dynamite dance. And I'm like, that's a dance I can do because I can't do many dances. But anyway, Shep, he was like, yes, that's it. That's what we're going to do. Tanya (21:54.914) There we go. See? Tanya (22:04.246) Okay. Well, I look forward to being a part of that. I will. Don't... Don't worry. Jasa (22:06.257) So remind me. Remind, remind Shep and I. Many moons from now. When my baby gets married. Tanya (22:15.766) So that was definitely a highlight and then there's other things that have happened, but let me just tell you what's going on in my home right now We are We are basically moving but staying in the same home. Okay? Okay, so people are moving rooms around to make rooms for different things This involved cleaning out Tanya's office closet now that office closet is a walk -in closet Jasa (22:22.426) Okay, I would love to know. Jasa (22:39.899) Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm. Tanya (22:44.718) And I have lived in this home for 10 years. So Josh volunteered Sunday night to start the process, cleaning out the closet. He said, you know, doesn't everything just need to come out of the closet? I was like, yes, rule one of organi - organi what am I trying to say? Organizing? Thank you. Everything comes out. He said, where do want me to put it? So I'm kind of like fixing dinner and stuff. I said, you can put it on the dining room table. Jasa (23:04.217) Organization. Tanya (23:13.996) So he and Sean unloaded, listen, it took the entire dining room table, it's stacked five deep, all the square footage around the dining room table. I did not know one could put so much stuff in an office closet. And here's what I've learned. I am so Gen X. I have so much paper, paper, paper out the wazoo paper. I have filler paper, college paper, notebook paper, spiral bound paper. I have small notepad paper, graph paper. Jasa (23:40.241) graph paper, journals. Tanya (23:43.474) graphic paper, journals that have never been open, tons of copy paper cardstock, colored cardstock. Jasa (23:46.641) Copy paper. Colored paper. construction paper. Tanya (23:55.126) And you know what goes with paper? Staplers. Paper clips. Three hole punches. Jasa (23:59.02) Well, okay, Gen X plus homeschool mom forever and ever and ever and it's like paper was our world. We lived in a paper world. We truly did. So it doesn't surprise me one bit. I will say it did surprise me that you could fit all of that in a closet. You sent me a picture of your dining room table and I was like, my word and what did I suggest? I was like, you may need to just rent Tanya (24:08.674) Yes! Tanya (24:13.068) You know what we live in now? Jasa (24:28.232) a storage. What is it? We call it a storage. Yeah, a storage unit. Tanya (24:30.944) A unit. A storage unit. Yes. It was a brilliant idea. Jordan came over last night because I said, I might be a little overwhelmed with decision making because my ADHD is strong with this one. And so she came over last night and looked around and I said, what do I do with this? And she said, it all has to go. And I said, okay, go where? And she said, goodwill. Goodbye. Jasa (24:41.744) Might Jasa (24:57.702) my. Goodbye. my. Tanya (25:03.118) And I was like, but I have three different three -hole punches. That's correct, Mom, and you don't need even one. So I need you to let it go. So she said I'm going to have to make some hard decisions. So I sat with it. I thought about it. I did 10 things to avoid the thing because, like I said, the ADHD is strong. I went and installed a wireless hub in my garage in order to avoid the dining room table. Jasa (25:10.117) Right. Jasa (25:31.729) What's a wireless hub? Tanya (25:33.758) well, I have one garage door that's not attached to my other garage door. They're separate. One's a two car, one's a one car. And now I can control them both from my phone. Jasa (25:45.787) That was worth Tanya (25:47.008) Sure, sure. Those two hours of my time. Josh walked out during this time and he, Josh and I, do projects really well together. But then we also respect when each one wants to do a project alone. So I was on a ladder in the garage with a drill, putting pilot holes in overhead in order to install those little things so that you can screw something in, because it had to go in the ceiling of the garage. I don't know why I had to do this. Well. Yeah, do it cuz that's something else to do But so he walks out halfway through and he says hey Could you use some help over there? And I said no, I don't need any help Thank you because once again when you're avoiding doing something by doing something else You don't want someone to help you because they might make it go faster and Then you got to do the thing. Okay, so he said You don't need my help. Well all the sheetrock dust gone your head might suggest otherwise Jasa (26:18.469) Mm -hmm. Jasa (26:44.419) goodness. Tanya (26:45.536) And I said, all the sheetrock dust in my eyes might suggest that too, but I'm fine. And he said, okay. And then a little bit later, Sean comes out eating a turkey sandwich in one hand and holding a ladder with the other. Jasa (26:59.645) okay. Tanya (27:03.374) Which I said, hey, thanks, but don't help me, okay? So today, the goal after this podcast, is it already 1 .15? Tomorrow, the goal. Tanya (27:17.582) could very well be to finish this project. More to come. But basically, it had to be done. I do realize that I don't need approximately 42 notepads. I do realize that we are in a paperless digital society. So I'm going let it go, is what I'm saying to you. I'm going let it Jasa (27:17.863) long have we been talking? Jasa (27:39.963) Are you gonna take it to Goodwill? Because somebody's gonna love that paper. Tanya (27:44.002) Yeah, I am. I'm taking a lot of the paper to Abigail because she likes to play office. But the rest of it she doesn't want, no one wants. So I will ask a couple people if they want it and if they don't, off it goes. Jasa (27:48.313) That's a great idea. That is a great place. That will bring you joy to give that to her. Jasa (27:58.727) Points. Jasa (28:03.727) I think it's a gold mine for someone. We came across such a gold mine one time, which first of all, you were the one who always, because I had one younger than your youngest, you gave us so much homeschool material. And it just made it so fun for us because if Tanya picked it out, it was gonna be really cool and fun. So that, but then one day we got this email that said, hey, this school has closed down. and they've put all of their stuff in a storage building on Petty Jean Mountain. Do you remember this? Well, we went on a field trip. The kids and I were like, my gosh, how fun would that be? So we jumped in the car, went to Petty Jean Mountain, and we got so much neat stuff. And we got this one huge roll of yellow paper. And do you know, like, in public school, the teacher would have that on a roller. Remember that you would make your Tanya (28:36.514) Kind Tanya (28:59.042) Yeah. Jasa (29:00.795) billboards with and everything. Tanya (29:01.912) That giant craft paper, I know exactly what you're talking about. Jasa (29:05.251) giant craft paper so we got a full roll of that and that that roll of paper changed lives until I think Layton still has it but we would like when someone it was their birthday we would go and like wrap their house with this big yellow paper if someone won a tournament Tanya (29:16.258) No way. Jasa (29:26.213) we would go wrap it with this, like, we, that paper. So everyone, especially at Crosslife, would go that yellow paper because people would come home to their house being wrapped in that yellow paper. So that was difficult for me to get rid of because you know me, I attach memories to things, but you say to Tanya (29:44.152) Do not attach memories to things. Things are things. Things are not people. Yeah. Jasa (29:48.455) Yeah, you say memories are not attached to things, they're attached to people, which has been very helpful to me because, I had to get rid of everything to move here. Like I had to literally just get rid of almost everything to just start over. Everything fit in a 12 foot trailer for, you know, my whole life and Shep's whole life. We just brought in that 12 foot trailer, but letting go of my homeschool stuff. I mean, we're, we just love paper. Tanya (30:17.23) Yeah. Yeah. Jasa (30:17.261) and hole punches and scissors and markers and construction paper. Like it was just, it was our whole life for so long and I have such good memories of Tanya (30:23.106) Yes. Tanya (30:28.906) I am completely stumped as to what I'm going to do. But then if you, if you, right. No, we don't need them. You're not, right. So see, it makes no sense. But nothing says Gen X or more than paper because do you know that there are some businesses that don't even have a printer? Jasa (30:33.989) Here I am trying to get you to give it to me. I'm sitting here going, I'll take all your hoards of paper. But I won't because I can't. I have no room for it. And I have no children to homeschool anymore. Jasa (30:50.918) You're right. Tanya (30:55.15) They may have 500 people and they don't have a printer. Everything is digital. So anyway. Jasa (31:00.699) Well, I was with Edward Jones, you know, before I came here and we were pretty much digital. Tanya (31:06.742) Mm -hmm. Yeah, I've got to get with it. I've got to get into the new world. I've got to do a lot of cleaning out I do think I have a shredder somewhere. So maybe I'll find that and you know what I anyway it's more to come on that but right now I feel upside down I Feel upside down. Thank you. That's in part appreciated. Jasa (31:24.401) Blessings to you. Blessings to you. I know it's difficult, but I know you also can do this, and obviously you have a lot of people willing to help you. They're just not telling you what you want to hear, but they're willing to help you. Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm. Tanya (31:34.284) Yeah, I do. No, or taking it away. They're just telling me what to do with it. Because Jordan said, if you don't get rid of this now, I'm going have to do it when you die. That's what she said. That was her motivational speech. Yeah. Jasa (31:45.396) I think of that often. I do think of that often. That my kids going through my stuff and going, why would she keep this? This is silly. Why would she keep this? I don't want that to happen. I don't want to be looked at as silly when I'm gone. Tanya (31:55.446) I don't either and I, yeah. Right, right. Or people will say that darn woman never threw anything away. So I looked at it Sunday night and I thought this is the way I die. And then I looked at it Monday and thought not today. I looked at it Tuesday, not today Satan, looked at it Tuesday and thought I'm gonna get a trash bag and make a few decisions. And by Tuesday night after Jordan left I Jasa (32:04.109) Exactly. Jasa (32:14.063) Not today, Satan. Jasa (32:22.33) Mm -hmm. Tanya (32:25.11) I had come to terms with the fact that it's all gonna go. And I'm not sad about it anymore. In fact, I feel excited. So anyway, ADHD, that's the thing. It's a blessing, it's a curse. Jasa (32:43.643) Well, I think you're doing a great job. I don't know who needs to hear this today. I think it's you, Tanya. You're doing a great job. Keep doing what you're doing. Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm. Tanya (32:50.434) Thank you, friend. I appreciate that. I appreciate that. Okay, my week has been, my last two weeks have been a lot more simple than yours, so I am happy to run through them. We went to, yeah, yeah. Jasa (33:03.277) want you to. I'm pulling this fan over because I think my face is starting to glisten. Tanya (33:08.974) I laughed so hard when Cliff said to you about some topic, hey, I think I've got this down to 65. And you were like, degrees on the air conditioner? And he was like, no people. Jasa (33:23.512) Yeah, that was so great! Tanya (33:26.862) Yeah, yeah, it's it's not pleasant. I don't like summer and I'm sorry. I know people love summer. know there are There's a group of odd people out there that love summer. They love heat. They love sun Jasa (33:41.413) do love all of those things. I'm a beach girl, I'm an outdoor girl, and I also don't like wearing, I like tank tops and tank tops. Boy, that's a hard word to say, isn't it? And shorts and flip -flops. Like, I love summer dresses. I love all of that. The only time, I mean, for the most part, I'm just hot at night, and I like it cooler. Other than that, I do. I like summer, and I like tanning, and I like going to the beach, and all of those things. Tanya (33:49.954) Right. It's words. Tanya (34:09.134) Well, I sent Sean and Joshua because I freeze them out at night because I like, you know, I turn it down to 65. If someone said we're OK with 63, I'd be like, really? Because how about 60? 59? So there is a mattress out now that has water running through it. It chills or it heats. And I sent it to Sean and Josh and said, I think I need this. And I think I do. I think I do. Because I get angry. I get, okay, I will. I'm a very easygoing to some degree person, but when I get hot, I get angry. So, mm -hmm. Jasa (34:40.133) Hey, follow up on that. Jasa (34:48.357) Yes you are. Yes. Jasa (34:55.111) Is that kind of like hangry? Instead of hungry angry, it's hot angry? It's hangry. Tanya (34:57.038) Yes! That's what it is! That's probably what that actually means. Yes, I get hot angry. Jasa (35:06.895) Let me ask you this. Before my surgery, I almost ordered a cooling blanket. Have you heard of cooling blankets? I literally was just about to order it and then I thought, well, I love to be cool and then have warm blankets on top of me. I don't think I would like to have a cool blanket on top of me. So I'm going to explore that a little more. So let me know what you if you find out about that as well or just, you know, the water bed. Tanya (35:13.208) What's that? What's the cooling blanket? No! Tanya (35:24.354) Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tanya (35:37.26) The waterbed, yeah. That's the thing that I thought was this could be problematic. This could be problematic if your mattress is filled with water. So, okay. Jasa (35:39.623) They're coming Jasa (35:46.235) We'll just get a warranty. Especially if you're gonna put your electric blanket on top of your water bed. Mm -hmm. You may burn more than your sheets, my friend. Tanya (35:51.907) Mm. Mm -hmm. Okay, so maybe this is just not a good plan. But I need something, is what I'm saying. Jasa (35:57.905) I don't know. Let's explore it. Let's explore it. This could be life changing. Let's explore it. I love the idea of it. Sounds very peaceful. Tanya (36:03.982) Well, do. The week that we went to Mariah's wedding, we had to stay all night in Russellville because it started at 10 in the morning. And we got Jasa (36:11.37) huh. And the dang Darnale Bridge, did you have any trouble getting across it? Tanya (36:15.362) The Darned Dardanelle Bridge is under construction. No, we went right across it. But I thought, I'm not going to miss a wedding because I'm sitting on the opposite side of the Dardanelle Bridge, you know. So I'm not point of grace. People don't wait on me. I am we all four of us. Yes, you actually would have. So all four of us, got hotel rooms and stayed in in in Russellville. OK, so that's Thursday. Then the very next night, Friday night. Jasa (36:24.037) maddening. That would be Jasa (36:28.743) Mariah would have. Mariah would have. Tanya (36:42.55) Shaw needs to go to a retirement party in Harrison, Arkansas, which is, you know, that's another, yeah, opposite end of the state. So we got there, we did that. We ended up booking a room, yeah. Jasa (36:47.757) Opposite end. Jasa (36:54.437) let me ask you. Did - never mind. I thought maybe you drove through Bee Branch and Clinton, but you didn't. You went up through Jasper. Tanya (37:00.718) no, because we came through Little Flock. So we just took Interstate 49 home. We went home. Sean worked most of the day Friday. And then we, he worked all day Friday. What am I saying? And then we left from Little Flock and went to the retirement party in Harrison. So we weren't there as long as we thought we would, we were going to be there. Although we were there for a while. I had booked a room in Harrison because I don't really want to sleep in a Land Cruiser. That's not my style. But, Jasa (37:05.095) you went home. Okay. Jasa (37:30.638) With your essentials kit. Tanya (37:31.694) or Sean's car. yeah. So as we got out kind of early, know, Branson is 26 miles from Harrison. Like it's just right there. And Sean said, OK, I know we're staying in Branson tomorrow night, but go ahead and just cancel this hotel. I don't care. I'll pay for it. It's not much. And let's just get onto Branson. And I said, you betcha. Nope, nope, nope. Couldn't happen. There was no availability. Branson was sold out. Yep. Jasa (37:57.681) Seriously. Well, is everybody just doing the last two raw before school started? Branson's a good place for that. Tanya (38:03.446) Yeah, I think so and lots of groups lots and lots of groups like family reunions family chat list lots of tour buses full of people everywhere So we pull into Branson Saturday morning. It's fine. We so we haven't slept in our own bed Thursday night We didn't sleep in our own bed, but that was Wednesday night didn't sleep in our own bed Friday night Then we slept in a hotel bed again on Saturday night. So I really was missing I was beginning to I was kind of like you Jasa (38:31.267) It's just so funny that you're saying we did not sleep in our own bed for three nights in one week. And I'm just like, I'm happy if I do get in my own bed three nights in one week. Tanya (38:36.024) three nights in one I don't know how you do it. don't. need my... Well, I'm going to tell you what I would probably enjoy. Unpacking once. Which is what you get to do on a cruise. Jasa (38:54.799) Yes, yes. Tanya (38:55.82) But being somewhere different every night, packing and unpacking and that sucks the life right out of all, no more joy left. Jasa (39:03.663) Now I will say, so two weeks ago I had to, knowing the airline situation, I wasn't sure I was gonna get to Virginia and home before I had to be in Seattle. So I had to have everything packed so in case Cliff had to meet me somewhere, he would have my thing. So I went to Virginia and I slept in Truett's bed Tuesday night and Wednesday night. And then I came home and slept on No, Monday night and Tuesday night. And then I came home and slept in my own bed. Thankfully, my flight made it home and then got up and then we fly there and then we stay in a hotel room for two nights. And then we get on the cruise and we stay on the cruise for whatever, seven nights, six nights or seven nights. But I was a little bit, my head was a little spinny with all of that happening because I was trying to pack for just Virginia and then just for Tanya (39:51.79) Yeah, I can imagine. Jasa (39:59.18) know, hotel and just for the cruise or whatever. So, and we know I can't think on that level. Tanya (40:04.012) I mean you kind of need two of everything to do that. You need two of a lot of things to do that. To have an extra bag. Jasa (40:06.543) So then I came home and I've washed all my dirty clothes, but thankfully we get to do laundry on the cruise. And so we get to bring a lot of things home that are already clean. So then I came home and just washed a few things and I haven't really unpacked, but today I'm just going to unpack just to make sure I have everything I need and then pack it back because it's all clean. So, and we're doing the exact same cruise. Tanya (40:30.466) Because you're leaving. Is it the exact same cruise? A Gaither cruise? Jasa (40:34.887) It's the exact same cruise. Well, no, it's not a Gator cruise, but we go to the exact same ports. I'm super excited about this cruise. This is a new one for us, but he is a podcaster and his name is LT. And I did not know who he was, but he has a huge following. Apparently there are 700 people on this cruise, but he's a Marine. And what he did was, Well, I guess I better not tell everything yet. but the Isaacs are singing on the cruise, so that will be fun, but I'm hoping that it's, yeah, I'm just really looking forward to it. That's what I'm saying. I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah. I'm going to listen to him before I go. Cliff has listened to him. So he's like a conservative Christian podcaster. his family talked him into having this podcast. They were like, you have way too much information and has a huge following. So I'm really looking forward to Tanya (41:16.78) Okay. Tanya (41:24.974) Gotcha. Tanya (41:32.878) so they were like, you're talking to us too much. So if you could just talk to the screen. We can relate to that, can't we? Jasa (41:37.799) Right. Yeah. Pretty phenomenal. He's a pretty phenomenal guy. So... Yeah. Tanya (41:46.468) that'll be fun. That'll be really fun. So six nights, seven nights. Jasa (41:52.112) Ummm, well like we're gone longer than that. Ummm, because we have to be there early but yeah, I mean it's a seven day cruise. It's seven day cruise, seven night cruise, I don't know. You know, I live in the moment. Are we going home today? No, we're not going home today. Tanya (42:05.09) I'm curious, is it the same boat? Do you know, have any way of knowing that? So actually you just could have stayed on the boat. Jasa (42:08.539) Yeah, it is. It is the same boat, which is cool when we get to do that. Yeah, we could have. Not really, because another cruise went out and then it comes in and then we get on and go. But a lot of our people do stay on the cruise. Tanya (42:21.454) gotcha. Okay. Or you could have stayed in Alaska. Okay. So many interesting things. Wow. Well, yeah, it is an incredible Jasa (42:28.059) We could have, yeah. Yeah. It's an incredible job that I love so much. So many interesting people. Like I said, work really, really hard, but it's just such satisfying work and I love Tanya (42:44.642) I'm so proud of you. You're just a busy little queen bee and I love it. You're just taking control. My favorite story is that you have to tell some people like, this is not your event. Like you're not the right color card holder to come into this event. And then they like to be like, but I want to. And then you have to tell them no, which, how does that work Jasa (42:57.445) Right. Yeah. Yeah. huh. Jasa (43:06.408) Well, and I will say that some people really appreciate that and some people don't. So usually the people that will push back are the people who do not appreciate the rules. They like to create their own rules. But then I had some people come up to me at the end of the cruise. This one man in particular said this to me. goes, they were getting autographs from the Gaithers and he said, I'd like to get your autograph. And I just laughed and he goes, no, let me tell you why. He said, because you knew the rules. and you enforced them and I appreciate Tanya (43:37.23) See, you are famous. Jasa (43:42.407) Well, to my door people, so the Gaither Cruise, we had 2 ,000 passengers. so interacting with the, so mainly we're taking care of the VIPs. But when I interact with the passengers, we're all assigned to a door that comes into the auditorium. But my, mean, it is a very serious situation on the Gaither Cruise. And a lot of them are, have mobility issues and they have wheelchairs and scooters and canes and walkers and all of this kind of stuff. sweet, enjoyable people. They will line up outside of my door an hour and a half before the show starts because getting good seating is just so important. So there are two different colors because every show we have to do it twice. But then in addition to those two other colors, we have four different priority colors so that everybody gets a chance to go in first and get a good seat. So I have all of these sweet, sweet people lining up outside of my door for an hour and a half. And you know when you're at Disney World and you're in these long lines, they try to make it enjoyable by showing videos and stuff like that. So I try to make it enjoyable for my people and kind of get to know them. And you know, we're all creatures of habit. So whatever door we go in the first night, we want to go in that same door with the same person and sit in the same area. You know, so by the end of the week, like we're all crying singing Friends Are Friends Forever because we've really gotten to know each other this week. And so it's just sweet people. And so we, go up, the first night I went out and I said, hi, welcome to my door. My name is Jasa. Clearly I'm from Boston. They always think that's the thing. Tanya (45:20.398) Well they thought you were the warm -up comedian act. That's what they thought! Jasa (45:24.259) I told them, said, this is my only stage. So this is my stage. So we would sing and like the first night that the priority color was yellow. And I said, yellow is my favorite color in honor of yellow. Let's sing. You are my sunshine. So we sang you are my sunshine. And I videoed it. Everybody's singing. And of course, a lot of people there are like song leaders or singers that have been singing great Gator music their whole life. And so we had some people that really were standouts. and they're singing and they were harmonizing and they were singing louder than other people and they were giving me their credentials and I've been singing Sandy Patty my whole life and I mean I get to hear all of this stuff with all of these people. Lots of people are telling me about how their spouses have died and then they're coming alone and I'm telling you I love it so much. I love those people so much and then another time that I'm interacting Tanya (45:52.483) Tanya (46:15.97) Yeah. Jasa (46:21.003) with the people is they all get an opportunity to meet and greet the stars. So they stand, I had a thousand people in line to meet and greet Bill Gaither, Sandy Patty, Mark Lowry, and the Gaither Vocal Band. And it's so important to them. Some of them were bringing the oldest... Tanya (46:30.573) Whoa. Jasa (46:40.973) material you've ever seen, like when Bill and Gloria were so young and had just started, and these were precious things to them to get to meet, and then they get their picture made. So what we do, Cliff's part of the picture taking group, I work the line. So I go through the line and I tell everybody. Now to make this efficient, you've got to have your book open where you want to sign and you've got to have your camera ready. I said you've got to have your passcode in. I said if you get up there and start trying to remember your passcode they're gonna say next. So have your camera open and they're gonna take your pictures and everything and so I got to walk through this whole line. This was twice I did this a thousand people each day. that I get to walk through and get to ask everybody about their lives and they ask me about their lives. And so that night, that first night I told Cliff, I said, I have never used more words in my whole life. I used 400 million words today. And it was funny, Cliff and I would be around each other, but we didn't get to talk. And I went in one night and I'm like, tell me when you have the head space for me to tell you about my drama today. Tanya (47:46.776) when you have the heads. Jasa (47:49.315) Because we're so, so busy. But it's just a great busy because we know all of the people on the ship, like the entertainment director and the captain and all the people, you know, we know them personally and that is so fun to know them. And then we get to know the VIPs personally because we pick them up at the airport and then we take them to the hotel and then we take them to the ship. So we get to know them on a personal level. And so when I'm standing there, waiting for their luggage to come, which takes longer and longer these days, you know, like we're standing there an hour. I get to know people so much better and it's so fun. And so then like the VIPs will come in and they're like, Jace, have you seen my mama? It's just so Tanya (48:35.053) I would be in trouble there. Okay, but you remember faces. Jasa (48:38.051) You would, but you and Brad Pitt would be, yeah. Well, but you get to know them on a very deeper level when you're with them so much. So it's just so fun. And then our friends Jim and Sharon went with us on the cruise. And I told them, said, no, we're probably not going to see you for the first three days. And we really didn't. But then a little later in the week, we got to do things with them and we got to go. It was the greatest thing because one of the neatest things about Alaska is the salmon. Tanya (48:45.592) That's true. That's very true. Jasa (49:06.683) And can be, and Cliff was there, you know, two weeks before and there were no salmon. They came in the night before we got there this time. So we're standing and you can just see, I could give you, I could write a term paper on salmon. Like it is so fascinating. I mean, that the Lord has done this, but the salmon, they're jumping up in the air and coming down. You know what they're doing when they do Tanya (49:33.07) Is it called spawning? I don't know. What are they doing? Jasa (49:36.559) Maybe, maybe you should help me write this term paper. But they're causing their eggs to fall down lower. That's what they're doing. But they don't know what they're doing. God has just put the instinct in. And so it's just popping like popcorn out there. And we walk up in the, nobody is more fun to watch this with than my friend Sharon because she was just screaming and laughing every time they'd pop up. It was like so fun for her to see that. And so we stopped watching this dammit and just started watching her. Tanya (49:39.534) No. Jasa (50:04.421) because she was so cute about it. Then, then, okay, that was when we were in Sitka. And then we get in Ketchikan, and you can go, there's a river there, and their goal, what they do, what they are born for, is to swim upstream. So you're watching them, and they swim upstream, and then something catches them and carries them all the way And they, but all they know, all they know to do is just swim upstream. And they go up and then they lay their eggs and that's mostly their whole life. But it is just such a fascinating things to see. took, fascinating thing to see. I took pictures and videos that I'm going to send you. But we're just so excited that they got there the night before because Cliff felt so much pressure because Jim and Sharon were going and he just wanted them to have the best. you know, experience ever because sometimes we go to Alaska and it's fog and you can't see the glaciers or anything and if the salmon are not there, I mean it's beautiful whenever you go but I woke up that first morning at the glacier and it was foggy and I just started praying number one for Cliff because I knew how important it was to him that Jim and Sharon see this and I started praying for them. Tanya (50:58.35) OK. Jasa (51:14.241) And thank the Lord, it went away. The weather was beautiful and perfect and we had the best time with them. It was just so great. And I got to be with one of your personal faves. Tanya (51:27.404) Linda Randall. Yeah, I don't know a lot of people that you travel with, but you sent a selfie in an elevator and you were trying to tell me who all was in the, and I was like, Linda Randall. Linda Randall. And you said, how do you know her? said, God on the mountain, she slays that song. And does she end up singing it on the cruise? Yeah. That's right. That's right. Yeah. I finally got the entire video because the first one you sent me was like three seconds. And I thought that was me and JSA. Jasa (51:38.222) huh. Jasa (51:45.317) Yeah. Remember us at Uvideas. Jasa (51:52.817) Yeah, because somebody came and asked me a question. I'm like, dang it. No questions, please. Tanya (52:01.922) My mom and papa, you my mom has a beautiful singing voice, strong, beautiful singing voice. If she had wanted to record albums and do that with her life, she easily could have. But her and her, yeah, well, her brother -in -law, yeah, don't have, I don't sing, but you know, I can, I played the piano. But her brother -in -law and her sister and her, they did travel and they did do things a lot. They Jasa (52:12.901) Wow, that explains a where your talent came from. Okay. Tanya (52:30.594) They were in high demand, one might say. Well, anyway, the band broke up at some point. And so I became the piano player and mom and my papa, my grandfather, they would sing God on the mountain. And when you talk about bringing down a church, they would bring it down. And I just had the pleasure, well, the honor, the undeserved honor playing the piano while they, while they did that. But in order to learn, Jasa (52:49.585) Wow. Tanya (52:59.65) how to follow them, because they would just take off. They just take off from... I really had to know that song. And so I had Linda Randall on a, not a CD, no ma 'am, on a cassette tape. Yes, I did. Was not, not that old. But I had her by my piano on my boombox. And I would just rewind and play to understand the chord changes and the runs and the transitions and the callbacks. Jasa (53:03.302) Mm -hmm. Jasa (53:12.325) At least it wasn't an eight track. Tanya (53:29.166) Yeah, I had to be on my toes. If I have listened to her sing that song once, I have listened to her sing it 300 times. So it's a part of my core memory. And then her face, of course I recognize her face, but also her hair. to die for. Jasa (53:36.458) my word. Jasa (53:42.405) that hair. Well, she is a beautiful person inside and out. So last cruise, I only knew her from the outside. This cruise, what's another thing that is great? This is my plug for Inspiration Cruises, people. If you want to go on a cruise, go with Inspiration Cruises because they're going to make it as personable and turnkey. Tanya (53:48.695) Yes, she Jasa (54:07.751) as you could possibly expect. And I just get so much feedback at the end. It just makes me so proud to be a part of this company. But we go on excursions with the passengers so that they can spend time getting to know the artists that they've only admired their whole life. So if you would have been with me, Tanya, you could have gone to a salmon bake with Linda Randall, Gordon Moat, and Jimmy Fortune. and we got to go to the salmon bag and you saw the reel that I made. They literally, it was a buffet, there was a waterfall there, we just went and spent the afternoon with passengers. Okay, here's the sweetest thing. So Jimmy Fortune sang with the Statler Brothers for 21 years. He wrote more than a name on a wall. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go listen to it now and take your Clen -X's with you. That song, I will cry every single time on that song. Tanya (55:01.047) Okay, we're going to link that song in our show notes so you don't have to remember it I'm putting it in right now. Okay? Jasa (55:01.095) and it's a mom saying, okay, okay. The mom is saying, please tell him he's more than a name on a wall. And you know what, while I'm talking about. So Jimmy, so he's been retired from the Statler Brothers for 22 years and he is a solo artist now. Well, my dad had told me how much he likes Jimmy Fortune. Tanya (55:15.064) Yeah, I did. Jasa (55:25.773) And I said, he's going to be on my cruise. And then I found out I was going to be on the excursion with him. And my dad said, if you get a chance to tell Jimmy, tell him I don't only admire him as a singer, but also as a Christian. So I got to tell Jimmy that. And he said, can I use your phone and send your dad a video? Yes. And did I not send you that video? OK. And he gets on there and he said, what's your dad's name? And I said, James. And he said, James. Tanya (55:46.21) Stop Tanya (55:49.677) You did. Jasa (55:55.803) He said, I love you too, buddy. He said, I appreciate you and just the most sincere thing. So then we get to the excursion and Cliff and I are eating with Nina and Jimmy. And I said, so, you know, really the purpose is, is that you just interact with the guests. And I said, I'll be taking pictures and everything like that. And Jimmy Fortune says, he said, I love it. I love it. He said, if God's given me one gift. Now we know what Jimmy Fortune's gift is. He is one of the most incredible tenors on the planet. He said, if God's given me one gift, it's loving people. And he said, I love people. And he and Linda and Gordon Mote cannot say enough about Gordon Mote. So he is blind, but like so, so super talented. He's played with the Gathers forever and everyone else. Like he is a legend. Tanya (56:34.306) Wow. Jasa (56:51.823) But anyway, then I had some other friends on the cruise, Carolyn and Jim, but Carolyn's first name is Elizabeth. So she, her husband said, now her name is Elizabeth, right there on the spot, Jimmy Fortune burst into the song Elizabeth. That was the Statler Brothers, probably number one hit ever. Best hit ever. Tanya (57:12.405) See, it's the gift that keeps on giving. You can't even go on an excursion and not be entertained by these people. Jasa (57:18.363) Well, then it got better. Of course, I'm videoing everything because I was like, are you kidding me that I am in Alaska and Jimmy Fortune is just impromptu Lee, impromptu Lee. Would that work? In an impromptu fashion, he started singing Elizabeth. Okay, well then you think it can't get any better than this. Gordon Moat was like, let's do that again. I want to harmonize with you. Tanya (57:28.846) Sure Tanya (57:44.172) No way. Jasa (57:44.999) had died and gone to heaven. It sounded like angels singing, me and angels. But it was just so fantastic. Like I could not get enough. So I was just floating. It was just such an amazing time. So I'll just let me tell you who was on there. When you get Gaither and friends, you don't know who his friends are going to be. Now lot of these friends have been with them for well, 40 years. I think at least yeah, since the beginning of time. So he has the Gaither vocal band, which at this point consists of Reggie Smith, whose wife is Lady Love, so she's on there too. Adam Crabb, who's from the Crabb family. His brother Jason Crabb just had Song of the Year last year called Good Morning Mercy. Can't get enough of that, so good. But then, okay, just a little interruption here. I was standing outside of my doors, you know, trying to keep a red out of the blue section. And then all of a sudden I hear Jason Krabs singing, They Baptized Jesse Taylor, which my dad used to sing. And so I said to her, don't come in these doors. I will be right back. But that is one of my favorite songs because my dad used to sing it to me. So I go in and film it for my dad, you know, because it's so good. And then the beautiful thing about Bill Gaither, it's all unscripted. No one knows when they're going to sing, what they're going to sing. Like it's just amazing. And then you think you've sung your song and you start walking to your seat and he'll go, let's sing that last verse one more time. So then he comes back and it just keeps going and going and going. And it was just so fantastic. So Angie Priam is on there, soulful, and her and Chris Blue are on there. Like they sometimes would go to their seat, and Bill would start talking and they would just start it from their seat all over again, over and over and over. And I'm telling you, we had hundred year old people rocking the boat, rocking the ship. I mean, they were holding hands, they bless them. They would get their phones out. Tanya (59:51.926) wow. Jasa (01:00:00.313) and try to find their flashlights and wave them. And if there people in my area and they were trying so hard and the song would be over before they could get their flashlights. So I was trying to help in that way. So they could get their flashlights on. Of course, then they'd turn around and go, now how do I turn it off? But it was so sweet. And of course, everybody had to do that because Sandy Patty was singing Love in Any Language. And everybody's Tanya (01:00:22.391) straight from my heart she was singing that, okay? Of course! Jasa (01:00:26.977) It was wonderful. Let me think who I have not mentioned. Let's see. Okay, we had the Easter's there. Jeff and Sheri Easter. And we had Karen Peck and New River. okay, so Chris Blue was on American Idol or one of the singing shows. But anyway, phenomenal. And if you can look up one song, it's... I can't even walk without you holding my hand. You know me, I'm always gonna give more words. It's probably not that long of a title. And then, The King's Highway. really? But for him to sing it, it is so new. I'm walking on the King's Highway. Tanya (01:00:55.246) Woo. Tanya (01:01:03.82) he threw it way back. Yeah. Those are both, those are both really old ones. yeah. I used to play that for the, for my Elderleaf Church friends. Yes. Jasa (01:01:19.281) I'm so glad that you know these people because you my kids don't know who they are. But do know the Gaithers. Tanya (01:01:23.458) Well, if I don't know the people, I know the songs. So I don't always know both of Tanya (01:01:31.072) I've been to a Gaither concert, thank you very much. I was really seriously raised on the Gaithers because I was in a little Baptist church that's Southern Gospel music. And so that's where we took everything from. If we learned a new song, yeah, that's where we learned it from. Jasa (01:01:43.185) That's all of the southern... Yeah. That's the only Southern Gospel that existed when we were children. This was before, you know, the 80s and Tanya (01:01:51.818) true. This is when the Florida boys were a thing and yeah absolutely yeah I cut my teeth on gospel music yes and I have a healthy respect for it because it has a lot of good memories with it Jasa (01:01:56.667) Jasa (01:02:06.459) Well, I have to throw in there our friend Kevin Williams. He is the one who runs everything, but he's also the comedian of the group. So he keeps everybody dying laughing. I look around, I think sometimes some of the old people don't get what he said or maybe didn't hear what he said because I'm just dying laughing. And then you got Matthew Holt who plays the piano. That's incredible. I'm trying to think who I missed because it was a packed, packed stage. Absolutely. It was packed, it was fun, it never stops, it's high energy, it goes for two hours. Yeah, I mean, I never, I've got one more thing to say is Benji Gaither is Bill and Gloria's son and he got up and sang Sweet Caroline. And once again, everybody was trying to get their phone Tanya (01:02:40.302) Wow. Get your money's worth, yes. Jasa (01:02:56.793) and wave it. It was just so fun. And then all the kids were there and they all go up onto the stage. I was going to finish the Gaither vocal band is now Reggie Smith, Adam Crabb and Wes Hampton. Tanya (01:03:11.071) okay. Okay, I didn't know who it was Jasa (01:03:12.803) Yeah and Todd Settles. Todd Settles are the four Gaither vocal band members. I think they have been for quite some time because when we're on the cruise the TV pretty much only plays Gaither videos. we, and I went back and we were watching from you know the earliest ones and picking everybody out when they were so much younger and stuff Tanya (01:03:24.919) Right. Tanya (01:03:32.526) Well, let's it used to be Guy Penrod, Mark Lowry, and David Phelps? Yeah. And then there were some other ones that came and went, but yeah, they're kind of the OGs of it all. That's fun. Jasa (01:03:44.675) Yep, absolutely. So Mark is there, but he just, he sits by Gloria, everybody else stands up, but he just keeps sitting by her and just is real affectionate with her. And then he just says funny things that aren't expected, you know, how funny he is. But he's a delight. Yeah. And he's sang some solos and sang with other people. Gene McDonald is one more I have to mention. He's the bassiest bass ever. He's the deepest voice I've ever heard. Tanya (01:04:01.696) in true Mark Lowry Tanya (01:04:13.88) Wow, okay. A good time was had by all. Here's what I'm hearing is that you're probably gonna be on the stage next because you are making a name for yourself with audience entertainment. You're the pre -show is what you are. You're getting everybody warmed up for the actual show with your banter and your comedy. Next thing we know, you're gonna be a headliner. Jasa (01:04:14.159) He was there. Yeah. Jasa (01:04:28.305) Hmm? Jasa (01:04:39.161) No, no, it's just very isolated to one door out of six, are my door people, but I just, love them. We enjoy each other. Then, then we just started singing Gaither songs. So we sang because he lives, he touched me, family of God, you know, we were, I was taking requests at this point and we were just singing and filling the whole ship with Gaither music. So, Ken Davis was there as the comedian. Andy Andrews was there. Tanya (01:04:52.88) yeah. Jasa (01:05:09.401) I'm telling you, it was star studded. Tanya (01:05:13.368) What a time to be alive. Jasa (01:05:15.195) For real. Tanya (01:05:17.294) I'm gonna stop us right here, friends. We have so much more to talk about, but we've hit our one hour and five minute mark, but we're not even, we have just scraped the surface. So join us next time for part two of episode 150. I guess it will be episode 150 and a half. Jasa (01:05:19.793) Are Tanya (01:05:41.452) So don't forget to come back and join us soon. We will be right back. Thank you so much for listening.

Let's Talk TV, Food and Little Bit of Sports
Well, Hello. I didn't see you there. So glad you're here! Tanya and I just thought we didn't have a lot to talk about today, and then we got started and couldn't stop. Caitlyn Clark made history this week and is playing at noon, so needless to say, Tanya is in a big hurry to finish up and cheer on her girl. She dreamed about Sam PIttman and shows up in Razorback swag to celebrate only 50 days until Razorback football season. I'm hurrying due to an electrician coming this afternoon to check on some weird things happening over here. We ooh and ahh over Leighton's appearance on the podcast last week. Reece says her quote, "he was creepy age" will go viral. Our July 4th celebrations were dynamite and I bring in some delicious food items as my cute and fun. Our new segment that we are affectionately calling, "Let's talk TV" includes some old and even some incredibly old classics, inspired by Verna, as well as some new releases (at least to me). Tanya got me hooked on Reba so I'm off to see what Barbara Jean is up to. Stay classy. Catching up with Leighton
It is with great joy and honor that I welcome you to the podcast where Tanya and I catch up with my daughter, Leighton. Leighton is a young mom of two who makes her own sourdough and kombucha and has recently traveled internationally with her toddlers. She gives us perspective on raising kiddos in the Year of our Lord 2024, along with some life hacks and DIY projects she and her husband, Hunter, have done this summer. Tanya is Leighton's second mom so it is always a joy for me to sit in on a conversation with the two of them. Leighton's cute and fun segment is unlike anything we have ever offered you here on the SY podcast. Enjoy the fun! In this episode, We discuss Jasa's upcoming hip replacement surgery, and, Jasa of course shares some funny stories - as well as some poetry! We also discuss my recent experiences, including watching movies at the theater and a trip to Branson. We have a great cute and fun segment, where I share a Pop Tarts-themed eyeshadow palette I found. In this conversation, We also delve into affordable hair care products, cute fashion finds, luxurious bath towels, a disappointing hotel experience, and our recent entertainment recommendations. We also mention a true crime podcast and a MasterClass course I enjoy. The conversation is filled with humor and personal anecdotes that we sure hope you will enjoy. Thanks!
