Trauma And Addiction with Dr. Natalie Feinblatt

Trauma doesn’t always look like one catastrophic event and addiction doesn’t always start as “bad choices.” We sit down with licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Natalie Feinblatt to connect the dots between trauma, complex PTSD, and substance use in a way that feels honest, compassionate, and practical. When the nervous system has been pushed past its limits, reaching for alcohol or drugs can become a form of self-medication that works for a while, until it starts taking more than it gives. We also get concrete about what trauma-informed addiction treatment actually looks like: thorough assessment, careful pacing, and a plan that respects where someone is in sobriety before diving into intense trauma processing. Natalie explains why language matters, especially for survivors who have been harmed while intoxicated, and why certain interpretations of “what was your part?” can backfire when trauma is involved. If you’ve ever felt stuck in shame, this conversation offers a different frame that keeps accountability without blaming the victim. Then we dig into EMDR therapy and the neuroscience of healing. Natalie breaks down bilateral stimulation, why trauma treatment has to include the body and the nervous system, and how neuroplasticity helps us build new pathways over time. We close with a powerful metaphor for realistic recovery: turning down the PTSD “radio” so life becomes livable again, even if the past still exists. If this resonated, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find trauma-informed recovery resources.Connect with Dr. Fleinblatt directly: https://telewellnesshub.com/directory/dr-natalie-feinblattWe are happy and honored to be part of your life changing health and wellness journey: https://telewellnesshub.com/This episode is proudly sponsored by: https://legalmed180.com/

    Bridging Law And Healthcare

Systems don’t heal people—people do. When law, healthcare, and community support finally move together, cases resolve faster, resources reach families sooner, and the person at the center gets the care they deserve. We sat down with Alex Gomez, VP of Marketing at Legal Med 180, to unpack how a collaborative platform replaces outdated expert directories with vetted, court-ready clinical partnerships that actually improve outcomes. We dig into the real bottlenecks attorneys face when tracking down the right medical and mental health experts, and why many clinicians avoid legally involved cases. Alex shares how Legal Med 180 builds bridges: clear expectations, aligned documentation standards, and a network of clinicians who understand both clinical rigor and legal needs. Instead of search-click-done, the model is relationship-first—so reports are stronger, timelines shorter, and clients get access to therapy, equipment, and life care planning sooner. You’ll also hear about Walk Them Home, the campaign at the heart of Legal Med 180’s mission. Built for first responders, veterans, and their families, it pairs advocacy and storytelling with practical resources that cut through red tape. The aim is simple: no one walks alone through injury, trauma, or disability. Together with TeleWellness Hub’s provider-curated tools and education, the partnership refuses to gatekeep knowledge and brings credible mental health and medical content where people actually need it.If you’re an attorney, there’s a faster way to find the right expert. If you’re a clinician, there’s a safe, structured path to contribute your skills to meaningful cases. And if you’re navigating a tough season, there are people ready to help—today. Navigating the Rise of AI-Powered Mental Health Support

Artificial intelligence is reshaping mental health care at breathtaking speed, but are we moving too quickly to embrace technology at the expense of human connection? As a licensed professional counselor since 2011, I've spent weeks researching this transformative trend to understand what it means for both providers and clients. The appeal is undeniable. AI-driven mental health platforms offer 24/7 support, affordability, and unprecedented accessibility. Studies show these tools can reduce symptoms for some users, and their popularity has skyrocketed with a 500% increase in usage since 2020. As someone who understands the midnight need for support when therapy appointments are days away, I see the potential benefits.Yet serious concerns emerge upon closer examination. Most AI systems provide mechanical responses that leave users feeling unheard. Some platforms have suggested actively harmful coping strategies, raising alarm bells about safety. Without a human provider's clinical judgment, AI cannot properly diagnose, personalize treatment, or adapt to complex emotional needs. Perhaps most troubling are the privacy issues – many AI mental health tools collect sensitive data that may be used for marketing or sold to third parties, a far cry from the confidentiality guaranteed by licensed professionals bound by HIPAA.For mental health providers, this shift creates both existential fears and opportunities. Many professionals who've invested years in education and training worry about being replaced by algorithms. However, I believe the path forward lies not in resistance but in ethical integration. We need mental health professionals at the table shaping how AI is implemented in our field, ensuring technology supports rather than replaces human care. That's why platforms like Telewellness Hub are creating communities where providers can navigate these changes together while advocating for human-first, ethical mental health solutions.Subscribe to join our conversation about the future of mental health care. Together, we navigate Sarah's decade-long journey through various therapeutic methods, including mindfulness, EMDR, CBT, and somatic therapy, culminating in her profound experience with ketamine. Discover how Sarah overcame her initial skepticism about ketamine's reputation and found it to be a groundbreaking tool in her healing process. In this candid discussion, Sarah shares the remarkable improvements in her sleep, mood, and emotional connections, attributing these positive changes to ketamine therapy. We celebrate her resilience and the newfound harmony between her mind and body, which has empowered her to navigate life's challenges with grace. Crystal and I highlight the importance of self-love, setting healthy boundaries, and being open to different therapeutic approaches. This episode offers hope and practical insights for anyone exploring ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or seeking effective mental health support.A personal message from Sarah (we are so grateful for her healing, the healers, and this innovative treatment option): KAP has worked differently than EMDR or other treatments as it enables me to process forgotten trauma, missing memories, physical sensations, etc without having to remember the specific details. Over the years, these blocked memories and physical traumas have been the biggest obstacle to my treatment. I have survived the depression, anxiety, insomnia, and other cPTSD effects, through denying, minimizing, self harm (eating disorder + substance/alcohol abuse), over working, being over active, isolation, people pleasing, etc. Basically, my firefighters and critics have taken the wheel most of my life. The antidepressant relief was felt immediately after the first session; the behavioral and mental changes have been more gradual over the last six months. Some changes include: how seamlessly I can accomplish tasks, get out of bed, good posture and PT/yoga, keeping good habits, interviewing for over a dozen jobs, planning and showing up (I struggle with keeping plans or having energy) for friend adventures, reconnecting with positive people, less social anxiety, excitement to try new things, ability to maintain eye contact, genuinely interacting with strangers, to feel and be with an entire range of emotions (notably rage) without regression, to clearly express my emotions/needs, to express and uphold boundaries, and (the biggest one) disowning my life-long abuser and navigating the backlash/disregard of my complex traumatic experience.I can feel my heart energy and want to love/help everyone feel better. I'm more connected to the left side of my body/right brain, than I can ever remember. I experience patience, grace, and respect for myself, my experience, emotions, struggles, etc instead of numbing out with marijuana and alcohol to push away the feelings that have been fighting to be expressed and felt. I feel blessed to be part of something bigger than myself, transitioning from surviving to thriving. I can finally feel for/connect with my inner child, being on her own from a very early age (possibly birth), and believe that I had no control over the things that were done to me. My bad habits aren't a reflection of my soul, it's what I did/do to survive. I can slowly transition away from these habits as I'm saWe are happy and honored to be part of your life changing health and wellness journey: https://telewellnesshub.com/This episode is proudly sponsored by: https://legalmed180.com/

Our enlightening chat traverses the landscape of medical massage therapy and its pivotal role in aiding recovery from surgeries and cancer treatments, dispelling the myth that massages are merely a splurge rather than a necessity for maintaining health and wellness.
