466. The Content You Consume Will Distort Your Reality Of Marriage And Life
In life, we become what we consistently consume. The content we take in whether from social media, movies, music, or TV gradually shapes the way we think, feel, and interpret the world around us.For example, if someone regularly scrolls through social media filled with posts promoting distrust in relationships or extreme views about the opposite sex, it can slowly influence how we perceive our own spouse even our their real-life relationship is healthy and strong. In the same way, if a person repeatedly consumes content that objectifies others, it can distort how they view relationships and intimacy, potentially impacting how they treat their spouse. The bottom line is simple: what we consume influences who we become or how we view our spouse and marriage. That’s why it’s important to be intentional about the media we allow into our minds. This idea is also supported by research. A study published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology found that individuals who spend more than 30 minutes a day on social media report higher levels of depression and anxiety. In this episode, Nick and Amy discuss the importance of being mindful about what we consume, and how choosing healthier, more positive influences can lead to a more fulfilling life and stronger relationships, whether in marriage or in preparation for one.🔥 Haven’t checked out the Ultimate Intimacy App yet? 464. When It Comes To Intimacy In Your Marriage, If You Don't "Claim" It, Someone Or Something Else Will
In this powerful episode, Nick and Amy dive into a bold and insightful quote they read."By God's good design, a man's sex drive is strong. If it is harnessed and intensified within marriage, it can be an incredible force fastening a man's affections and passions to his wife. I believe that it is right and godly to claim your husband's sexual desire as a potent source of influence in your marriage. This power was intended for you and for no one else. Unfortunately, if you don't claim it, someone or something else will."Nick and Amy unpack the deep truth behind these words, not only about sexual desire but also about the emotional intimacy in marriage as well. They explore how neglecting to intentionally claim your spouse’s affection, emotionally and physically, leaves your marriage vulnerable to distractions, temptations, or outside influences. If you want to strengthen your marriage and guard the precious bond between you and your spouse, this episode is a must-listen.Tune in now and discover how to claim what’s yours to protect, cherish, and celebrate your spouse like never before. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 462. We Asked 3000 Husbands & Wives What They Wished For More Of In Marriage? Survey Answers
In this episode, Nick and Amy dive into a simple but powerful question: are couples wishing more for a better marriage instead of actually doing the things that build one? After surveying married couples, the answers revealed something surprisingly consistent about what people feel is missing in their relationships.Husbands and wives shared a desire for more emotional connection, quality time, appreciation, less screen distraction, and feeling more prioritized. These aren’t complicated needs—they’re the everyday things that often get lost in the busyness of work, kids, and life responsibilities. What stood out most is that many of these desires aren’t out of reach. They don’t require a different spouse or a different season of life. They come down to small, intentional choices—how we communicate, how we show up, and what we prioritize when life gets full.In today’s conversation, Nick and Amy go through real survey responses and talk about what they actually look like in marriage. If you’ve ever found yourself wishing things felt different, this episode is meant to help you shift from wishing to doing in your own relationship. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 461. Marriage Superpowers: "Her Initiating & Him Saying "I've Got It!" WHY These Two Things Change Marriage With Expert Austin
In superhero movies, every hero has something unique that makes them powerful, but they do not discover their strength alone and they do not use it randomly. They learn what their power is, how it works, and how it impacts the people they are trying to protect. Marriage is very similar. Each spouse has different emotional needs, different ways they feel loved, and different “super powers” they bring into the relationship.I shared how for many husbands, when a wife initiates affection or makes him feel desired, it is like his entire world shifts. It strengthens his confidence, connection, and emotional bond. For wives, when a husband steps in and says “I’ve got it” without her having to carry everything alone, it feels like emotional relief, safety, and love. It is like someone stepping in to carry the weight of her “battle,” even for a moment. These small actions often speak louder than words ever could.Think of it like superheroes working together on a team. One hero might have strength, another might have speed, another might have the ability to protect or heal. If they all try to operate the same way, the team falls apart. But when they understand each other’s strengths and work together intentionally, they become unstoppable. Marriage works the same way. When spouses learn each other’s emotional “powers” and love languages, and then intentionally use them, the relationship becomes stronger, safer, and more connected. This is where love as an action really comes in. Just like superheroes do not just say they will save people, they actually show up and act, love in marriage has to be lived out in real ways. It is expressed through words, service, affection, support, and emotional presence that is tailored to what your spouse actually needs. In this episode, we talk about both sides of this, how masculinity and femininity play into these “super powers,” and how understanding your spouse’s emotional needs and love language can completely transform your connection. When couples stop guessing and start intentionally loving each other in the way their spouse actually receives love, marriage stops feeling like a struggle and starts feeling like a team working in sync.If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 460. Is That Dang "Mental Load" Killing Your Intimate Life? We Talk BOTH Sides!
In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy dive into a topic that many couples really struggle with in their marriage, but don't know how to handle... the mental load in marriage. Often invisible and rarely discussed openly, the mental load includes the planning, remembering, organizing, and emotional managing that keeps a household and relationship running smoothly. While it can affect both spouses differently, it is frequently carried disproportionately by one spouse, leading to stress, resentment, and disconnection in the marriage. In this episode, Nick and Amy talk about what the mental load is and what it looks like, why men and women are different in how they handle the mental load, and most importantly, how to communicate about it.If you struggle with holding resentment from the mental load, or you want to keep it from infiltrating your marriage then this podcast episode is for you!If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. Many couples ask us this question: Why doesn’t my marriage feel like it did in the beginning? The truth is, just like each year, our marriage has different seasons where intimacy can feel different. 452. Emotional & Sexual Foreplay Ideas For Your Marriage: Why BOTH Are So Important!
In this engaging episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast with Nick and Amy, the conversation focuses on the importance of both emotional foreplay and sexual foreplay in building a strong, intimate marriage. Nick and Amy break down how intimacy starts long before the bedroom and how emotional connection throughout the day can greatly influence physical desire later on.The discussion explores why emotional foreplay is especially important for creating attraction, desire, and safety in a relationship. Simple daily habits like giving compliments, writing love notes, showing physical affection that is not sexual, sharing meaningful conversations, praying together, planning date nights, and speaking your spouse’s love language all play a major role in strengthening emotional connection. They also talk about sexual foreplay and how it complements emotional intimacy. Ideas like slow kissing, massages, flirting through text messages, setting the mood with music, playful teasing, and intentional sensory touch can help couples create more meaningful sexual experiences. They emphasize that both emotional and sexual intimacy require ongoing effort, communication, and intentional investment from both partners.Nick and Amy also discuss how different life stages, stress, distractions, and unmet expectations can cause couples to drift apart if they stop doing the things that helped them fall in love in the first place. Ultimately, this episode encourages couples to keep prioritizing each other, communicate openly about their needs, and continue building intimacy throughout every stage of marriage. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 451. Emotional & Sexual Intimacy Go Hand In Hand Part 2 - With Expert Austin Ellis
In this powerful episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are again joined by therapist Austin Ellis to discuss part 2 of the previous podcast 449: Emotional and sexual intimacy go hand in hand. They discuss why so many couples struggle to maintain emotional and sexual intimacy after marriage. The conversation focuses on how life changes, unmet expectations, and lack of communication skills can create disconnection between partners. Austin shares practical insights on how couples can rebuild intimacy by developing new relational tools rather than relying on the conditions that existed when they first fell in love. The discussion explores how emotional, sexual, spiritual, intellectual, financial, and recreational intimacy all play a role in a healthy marriage. They talk about how selfishness, entitlement, pride, fear, and shame often replace connection when couples stop intentionally investing in their relationship. They also emphasize that marriage requires daily commitment, vulnerability, and a willingness to understand your spouse’s needs, wants, and emotional experiences.Austin provides therapeutic perspective on how couples can move from conflict and disconnection to unity by improving communication, building emotional safety, and choosing love over fear-based reactions. The episode also highlights how trauma, betrayal, and unresolved emotional wounds can impact intimacy—but that healing and hope are possible with the right tools and support.Ultimately, this episode encourages couples to view marriage as a lifelong journey of growth, teamwork, and intentional connection, showing that ultimate intimacy is built through consistent effort, love, and commitment to each other. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 449. Emotional & Sexual Intimacy Go Hand In Hand: Sex Is Actually More Emotional - With Expert Austin Ellis
In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are joined by Austin Ellis to talk about how emotional and sexual intimacy are deeply connected in marriage. They discuss how feeling emotionally safe, valued, and understood often creates a stronger desire for physical closeness, while healthy sexual intimacy can also strengthen emotional connection and help couples feel closer overall. The conversation also explores a common “stand off” many couples experience in marriage. One spouse may say they need more emotional connection before they feel desire for sexual intimacy, while the other spouse may feel that physical intimacy is what helps them feel emotionally connected. Austin shares that sexual passion in marriage is often fueled by strong emotional connection first, but that both spouses play an important role in building that bridge. When couples intentionally work on communication, appreciation, and spending meaningful time together, emotional closeness grows, which naturally increases desire and passion.Amy and Austin also talk about how this difference does not have to become a barrier in marriage. Instead, it can become an opportunity for growth when both spouses are willing to understand each other’s needs and meet in the middle. When one spouse works to strengthen emotional safety and connection, and the other continues to show affection, pursuit, and patience, couples often find that the emotional and physical sides of intimacy begin to reinforce each other.Austin highlights the importance of vulnerability in this process. When spouses feel safe sharing their thoughts, needs, and feelings without fear of judgment, it builds trust and deepens the connection between them. This episode reminds couples that emotional and sexual intimacy truly go hand in hand. By nurturing connection, communicating openly, and making intentional efforts toward both emotional closeness and physical intimacy, couples can move past the stand off and build a stronger, more passionate, and more fulfilling marriage together. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 447. How To Move Forward When You’re Stuck In Conflict — Lessons From A Listener’s Experience
We had a listener write in and share this experience. She and her husband have four kids and a great marriage. They’ve both decided they don’t want any more children. The challenge is that she feels a lot of anxiety around intimacy because she’s afraid of getting pregnant. She’s asked her husband to get a vasectomy, but he doesn’t want to, and he may have very valid reasons for feeling that way.So now they’re at a bit of a marital standoff. Neither of them knows what to do or how to resolve it.The truth is, they both have valid reasons. They both feel strongly about their perspectives. Neither one is necessarily right or wrong. But this is the kind of issue that, if left unresolved, can grow into a much bigger problem and create serious conflict and tension in the marriage. And this situation isn’t uncommon. In fact, it happens all the time. Couples often find themselves with differing opinions where both people feel justified and both may actually be right. So the question becomes: how do you resolve something like this?In situations like this, it’s easy for things to escalate. A wife might say, “Well, then we’re not going to be intimate until you go get a vasectomy,” drawing a hard line and issuing an ultimatum. On the other hand, a husband might respond with, “I’m not doing it, and you’re just going to have to deal with it,” which can leave his wife feeling dismissed and anxious every time intimacy comes up.You can see how dynamics like this, and so many others like it, can quickly lead to resentment, hurt feelings, and deeper marital strain. The good news is, there are solutions. Not just for this situation, but for the many conflicts couples face in marriage. In this episode, we’re going to share our thoughts on this specific scenario and also talk more broadly about how to navigate disagreements like this, the kinds that show up in marriages every single day.If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 446: The 6 Types Of PASSION You Need In Your Marriage!
The grass is not greener in someone else’s marriage. It is green where you water it. We have learned that firsthand. There have been seasons where our marriage felt easy, connected, and full and other seasons where things felt off, not because love disappeared, but because we stopped being intentional. Most couples do not have a love problem. They have an attention problem. When something feels dry, it usually just means an area has not been nurtured.Over time, we have realized that strong marriages are built on six kinds of passion. Sexual. Fun. Emotional. Purpose. Growth. Spiritual. When these layers are healthy and working together, a marriage feels hot, joyful, deep, united, growing, and spiritually anchored. When even one is neglected, you can feel the shift.Sexual passion keeps the spark and exclusivity alive. Fun passion keeps you laughing and enjoying each other. Emotional passion creates safety and vulnerability. Purpose passion unites you around shared direction. Growth passion pushes you to become better together. Spiritual passion keeps everything centered and sacred. Each one plays a critical role. Sexual keeps your marriage exclusive. Fun keeps it light. Emotional keeps it secure. Purpose keeps it aligned. Growth keeps it progressing. Spiritual intimacy protects them all.If your marriage feels off, do not panic, evaluate. Ask yourselves which area needs more water right now. Not with criticism, but with curiosity and commitment. Thriving marriages are not built overnight. They are built through small, faithful investments over time. Start watering intentionally this week, and watch what begins to grow.If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 445. You Don’t Have Multiple Priorities In Marriage, You Have One... And It Should Be Each Other
What if the key to transforming your marriage isn’t more time, but clearer priorities? In this episode, Nick and Amy are joined by therapist Austin to discuss one foundational truth: your marriage should be your priority. Not work. Not kids. Not phones. The marriage.Austin explains that many couples enter therapy focused on surface problems or looking for a “bad guy.” But when couples strengthen their emotional, physical, and spiritual bond, many issues naturally improve. When the relationship is healthy, everything else such as parenting, careers, stress functions better. It’s Not About Time, It’s About IntentionPrioritizing your spouse doesn’t require hours each day. It’s often small, consistent actions:A thoughtful textPlanning intimacy before a busy dayProtecting date nightChoosing your spouse over your phoneThese simple efforts say, You matter to me.When a spouse feels prioritized, connection can rebuild quickly. The Distraction ProblemMost couples live in “urgent but not important” mode — constantly reacting to notifications, emails, and distractions while neglecting what matters most.If your marriage is truly the priority, it should go on the calendar first — not last.A weekly “couples council” can help you stay aligned: express appreciation, review schedules, and intentionally plan time together before filling your week with everything else.A Covenant MindsetMarriage isn’t just a commitment — it’s a covenant. When you drift, repair isn’t about blame. It’s about course-correcting and saying, You matter most. I’m all in.A strong, intimate, playful marriage isn’t complicated. 443. Too Late to Set Boundaries in Your Marriage? Why Boundaries Show Love With Expert Austin
It’s easy to think love in marriage is only shown through romance, gifts, or intimacy. But one of the most powerful ways to show love to your spouse is through healthy boundaries. Boundaries aren’t about control, distance, or keeping your spouse out, they’re about respect, emotional safety, and creating a marriage where both of you feel valued, understood, and protected. In this week’s episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, we sit down with therapist and expert Austin to talk about boundaries in marriage. 442. Nobody Ever Teaches You How To Be Married - So Give Your Spouse & Marriage Some Grace
Nobody ever really teaches us how to be married. Most of us walk into marriage full of love and hope, but with very little understanding of what we’re actually stepping into. We come from different families, different upbringings, and different beliefs about money, sex, parenting, communication, and conflict. Then suddenly, we’re expected to blend all of that into one shared life.Marriage often feels like being thrown into the deep end and told to figure it out as you go. And for many couples, the struggle isn’t a lack of effort—it’s a lack of tools. We don’t know how to build the marriage we want, and sometimes we don’t even know what tools we’re missing. In this episode of Ultimate Intimacy, Nick and Amy talk about how many of us have unintentionally built patterns, habits, and even entire marriages we never meant to create. Not because we didn’t care, but because we were never taught how to do it differently. They explore why understanding this truth can change everything, and why learning to extend grace to ourselves and to our spouse may be one of the most powerful steps toward deeper connection and intimacy. A while back, we shared a video on social media about the importance of making time for intimacy, dating, and connection in marriage. One man responded strongly, explaining that he, and many other husbands, simply did not have the “time” and felt we did not understand the realities of busy life. What followed was a conversation that went back and forth for nearly three hours, centered on his belief that there was truly no time available to connect with his wife. At one point, Amy gently pointed out that while he felt he had no time for his marriage, he had found several hours to engage in the discussion and remain active on social media. The conversation ended shortly after, but the point remained clear. We hear this often. Couples talk about being too busy for date nights, postponing vacations, putting off intimacy, or avoiding deeper emotional connection. Yet we live in a world where convenience surrounds us. Food arrives in minutes, answers are instant, and entertainment is available at the push of a button.Still, many couples feel they do not have time for the most important relationship in their lives, their marriage. The truth is not that time is unavailable, but that it is often unintentionally allocated elsewhere. Screens, distractions, and endless obligations slowly take priority while marriage gets pushed to the margins. When couples begin to look honestly at how time is spent, even small shifts can create space for meaningful connection. Prioritizing marriage is rarely about finding more time, it is about choosing where our time goes.In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, we talk about why “too busy” is the ultimate relationship killer and the simple things you can do to reclaim your time, your connection, and your love, even in the middle of life’s chaos. If you’ve been putting your relationship on the back burner, this episode is your wake-up call.If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 432. Don't Have The Intimate Life You Want? Do These Emotional Intimacy Things First
We talk about this all the time on the Ultimate Intimacy podcast — emotional intimacy and sexual intimacy go hand in hand. You can’t expect a strong sex life if you’re not emotionally connected first. For most people, especially many women desire doesn’t start in the bedroom. It starts with feeling heard, valued, and emotionally safe. If that connection is missing, sexual intimacy often disappears right along with it.That’s why when couples say, “Our intimacy isn’t where we want it to be,” we usually ask them how the emotional connection is, and most the time it isn't connected either. When you focus on listening, showing appreciation, spending intentional time together, and connecting without pressure, walls come down and desire naturally begins to return. And here’s the exciting part... when emotional intimacy improves, sexual intimacy often comes back stronger than ever. Couples become more open, playful, and connected, and intimacy turns into something you both look forward to again. So if you want a better intimate life, don’t skip the foundation.Build emotional closeness first, and watch every part of your marriage thrive. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 431. Love Doesn’t Assume... Love Asks, Love Listens And Love Responds
One of the fastest ways intimacy erodes in marriage is through assumption. We assume our spouse knows what we need.We assume they understand how we feel.We assume love means they should just “get it.”But marriage doesn’t work on mind-reading as we have talked about before, it works on communication. When we assume things, we stop asking questions. And when we stop asking questions, we stop truly knowing our spouse. Over time, those assumptions turn into unmet expectations, and unmet expectations almost always lead to frustration, resentment, or emotional distance.Dr. John Gottman, one of the leading marriage researchers, talks about “bids for connection” the small moments where one spouse reaches out for attention, affection, or understanding. When those bids are ignored, often because of assumptions, couples slowly drift apart. Assumptions also damage sexual intimacy. When one spouse assumes rejection, disinterest, or “now’s not a good time,” desire goes unspoken. Silence replaces vulnerability. And eventually, intimacy feels awkward or distant, not because love is gone, but because communication is.In this episode, Nick and Amy talk about how making assumptions or assuming things in marriage can crate a lot of disconnect and conflict.Healthy marriages don’t assume. They ask. They clarify. They check in.They choose conversation over silence.Because love isn’t proven by how well you guess, it’s proven by how well you listen. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 429. Why The Lower Desire Spouse Needs To Initiate Once In A While
In many marriages, the higher-desire spouse ends up being the one who always initiates sex. Over time, that dynamic can leave the lower desire spouse feeling pressured, and the higher-desire spouse feeling unwanted or unseen. But here’s the truth: when the lower-desire spouse initiates, it can be incredibly powerful. It communicates love, desire, safety, and “you matter to me” in a way words alone never could. In this episode, Amy and Nick dive into 12 fun, flirty, and confidence-boosting ways the lower-desire spouse can initiate sex with a higher-desire spouse. They also share why sexual intimacy matters so deeply in marriage, and why initiative from the lower-desire spouse can be a total game-changer for connection, trust, and emotional closeness. If you want more passion, more playfulness, and a stronger bond in your marriage, then this episode is for you. 🔥If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. 428. Is The Sexual Intimacy In Your Marriage Controlled By One Spouse?
In most marriages (whether done intentionally or unintentionally), the lower desire spouse typically has complete control and say so when it comes to sex. They determine "if" a couple is going to have sex, "when" they are going to have sex, and everything related to sex in the relationship. Many husbands have expressed to us that they are the higher desire spouse and are scared to initiate sex with their wife for fear of rejection, having it cause an argument or conflict, and many other reasons. Because of this, and the fact that most women have a responsive desire style, many couples are not connecting sexually in their relationship (and often living in sexless marriages, or close to) because sex in the marriage is typically up to the wife.In this podcast episode Nick and Amy discuss the reasons why this is, and how couples can work together to find a balance in their sexual intimacy and relationship where both spouses needs and desires are being met, and sex is something that both spouses have mutual respect and control over in the relationship. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage.
