The Responsibility Gap That's Killing Teams
Most business owners say the same thing:“My team doesn’t take responsibility.”But here’s the uncomfortable truth…It’s not just a people problem. It’s a system problem. It’s a leadership problem. And most importantly…It’s what you’re allowing. In this episode of the Uncovering Greatness podcast, we break down:Why people avoid responsibility at workHow fear and consequences shape behaviourHow businesses accidentally reward the wrong actionsWhy processes matter more than motivationAnd what you can do this week to start fixing itIf you feel like you’re carrying your entire team… this episode will hit home.00:00 Why no one takes responsibility00:45 Fear and avoiding consequences03:00 People aren’t lazy — they’re avoiding risk10:00 Why workplaces reinforce bad behaviour18:00 Leadership vs people problem25:00 Conditioning from school and upbringing32:00 How to build responsibility in a team38:00 What business owners should actually do42:00 Final thoughts

Why Your Team Isn’t Performing (And It’s Not What You Think)
Why Your Team Isn’t Performing (And It’s Not What You Think)Running a business is hard. Most business owners carry enormous pressure — payroll, clients, tax, growth, and a team that doesn’t always perform the way they hope. When results aren’t where they should be, the easiest place to point the finger is at the team. But what if that’s not the real problem? In this episode of the Uncovering Greatness Podcast, Barry Mitchell and Suleman Steele tackle one of the hardest truths in leadership:Your team isn’t the problem.Leadership sets the tone.Leadership sets the standards.Leadership creates the culture. And when performance is low, the uncomfortable question every owner must ask is:"What am I doing — or not doing — that is allowing this?"In this conversation we explore:• Why blaming your team keeps businesses stuck• The leadership behaviours that shape team performance• Why culture is always driven from the top• The difference between accountability and blame• How business owners can start shifting results immediatelyIf you lead people — whether it’s a team of five or fifty — this conversation will challenge the way you think about leadership, responsibility, and results.#Leadership#BusinessOwners#Entrepreneurship#TeamLeadership#UncoveringGreatness

The Hidden Cost of Suppressing Emotions at Work
In this episode of the Uncovering Greatness Podcast, Nicole Mitchell (Lead Processor) and host Sule break down the shocking truth about emotions in the workplace—and why suppressing them is costing you productivity, performance, and profit. Here's the reality: Managers influence 70% of an employee's emotional experience at work. That means if you're not aware of your mood, your stress, or your leadership style, you're directly affecting whether your team thrives or barely survives. And here's the kicker: 1 in 3 employees suppress their emotions daily at work, which leads to resentment, withdrawal, performance drops, and eventually—conflict.Nicole and Sule walk through a real team meeting where suppressed emotions almost derailed an entire week of productivity. They reveal how to create a safe space where people can express what's really going on, address the actual issue (not the fluff), and move forward without the emotional baggage that kills momentum. What You'll Learn:✅ The 70% Rule: How managers unknowingly control team moods✅ The Suppression → Resentment → Withdrawal → Performance Drop → Conflict flow✅ Why "being professional" is actually making your team unproductive✅ How to create a safe space without taking on other people's emotions✅ The real reason only 21% of employees feel connected to their work✅ Why addressing the issue (not the emotion) saves your week✅ The tablecloth principle: How small details reveal big team problemsIf you're a manager, business owner, or team leader, this episode will change how you show up. Because emotions aren't the problem—suppressing them is.👉 SUBSCRIBE for weekly episodes on leadership, sales, and personal growth.👉 COMMENT below: Have you ever suppressed your emotions at work? Who Are You, Really? Self-Awareness vs. What You Do
When someone asks "What do you do?" most people answer with their job title. But that's not who you are—and confusing the two is costing you everything. In this eye-opening conversation, Nicole Mitchell (Lead Processor at Uncovering Greatness) breaks down the critical difference between identity and occupation, and why most people have no idea who they actually are. From cultural expectations to childhood upsets, we explore why self-awareness is the missing foundation in African entrepreneurship. What We Cover:The Identity Crisis:Why we define ourselves by what we do instead of who we areThe danger of "I'm an accountant" vs. "I do accounting"What happens when you lose your job and your entire identity collapsesWhy most 30+ year olds can't answer "What do you want?"Cultural Conditioning:How different cultures (Zimbabwean, Indian, Asian communities) shape identityThe pressure to become a doctor, lawyer, or engineerReligious expectations and childhood upsetsWhy association and education dictate who you can be in certain culturesUnderstanding Upsets:What is an upset? (When your setup gets disrupted)How childhood upsets shape adult behaviorWhy people avoid learning because they associate education with painThe subconscious patterns controlling your decisionsSales & Self-Awareness:Only 1.8% of South African businesses invest in sales training (shocking!)2.9 million people work in sales in SA—but how many know how to actually sell? Why salespeople create the futureThe difference between a sales rep and an order takerSales is effective communication, not posting on social mediaBarry's Half Ironman Example:How Barry knew WHO HE WAS before starting trainingGetting coaches (Google, Ironman coach, nutrition coach)Changing behaviors: "I train fasted" vs. "I need to fuel for 7+ hours"The difference between being an "Iron Man" and looking like one (plastic vs. real)Why people who don't finish probably thought the registration made them an Iron ManSocial Media & Avoidance:Why we doomscroll (to go absent from what we don't want to face)How self-awareness changes your algorithmScrolling as avoidance of uncomfortable conversations or tasksThe subconscious reasons we avoid doing thingsPain & Growth:The human brain is stupid—it avoids all painBut pain is necessary for growthAcknowledging emotions allows you to move through them fasterFinding truth frees up energy and life forcePractical Application:Start asking "Who am I?" not "What do I do?"Identify as: I'm a wife, mom, friend, athlete, money-making machine, etc.The more you identify who you are, the more you'll enjoy lifeWhy honesty with yourself is the key to breaking throughPerfect for: Entrepreneurs, sales professionals, business owners, parents, anyone feeling stuck in their career or life, and people who've lost themselves in their job title.Mentioned:Alan C. Entrepreneurs Guide To Thrive
What Is an Entrepreneur? An entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. The process of setting up a business is known as entrepreneurship. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as an innovator, a source of new ideas, goods, services, and business/or procedures. Entrepreneurs play a key role in any economy, using the skills and initiative necessary to anticipate needs and bringing good new ideas to market. Entrepreneurship that proves to be successful in taking on the risks of creating a startup is rewarded with profits, fame, and continued growth opportunities. Entrepreneurship that fails results in losses and less prevalence in the markets for those involved.
