The Unfiltered Therapists
by Jess Ward, Kay Foster
We're two Midwestern therapists that tell it like it is. Our podcast focuses on topics we find interesting, while tying it back to mental health and our own clinical experience. We know therapy can be intimidating and scary, but it doesn't have to be. We know it's important to show up authentically in order to build the strongest relationships with our clients. And this podcast is no different. We hope you learn something new while we keep it real and totally unfiltered.

25: Things People Are Afraid to Tell Their Therapist
It's one thing to feel comfortable enough to share your worries and your joys with your therapist. It's a whole other thing to feel comfortable enough to share those parts of you that no one else gets to see; the embarrassing moments, the traumas you've experienced, the things you're most ashamed of, the parts of you that you worry will be judged most harshly. In this episode, we share some of things that people are most afraid to tell their therapist. And full disclosure, there are a lot of sensitive subjects that come up in this conversation: suicidal/homicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse, substance use, and more. If these are triggers for you, please skip ahead and be sure to prioritize your mental health.Where to find us:FacebookThe Unfiltered Therapists (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555886414027)Kay Foster, LISW (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557148641038)Hopeful Minds Therapy (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61554441941125)Instagram@unfilteredtherapists@hopefulmindstherapyPsychologyTodayhttps://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/kay-foster-ankeny-ia/953009https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/jess-ward-polk-city-ia/1127839Our Websiteshttps://ankenycounselingcenter.com/kay-foster/https://www.hopefulmindstherapy.com/Disclaimer - This podcast is not a substitute for therapy services. 17: Self-Care and Following Through With Recommendations in Therapy
This week we're changing things up a bit. We're challenging each other to some self-care activities/ideas to implement so that we can really get into the barriers that clients face when this comes up in therapy. Lots of times we notice that clients don't follow through with their own, or collaborative, ideas or goals to care for themselves so here's to taking a closer look at why that might happen. Plus, I (Kay) go down a rabbit hole (cue the ADHD brain) that might be very interesting to you. It definitely was for me. I have been so excited about learning this about myself and the way it's impacted my life. Seriously. This has changed so much for me. If you have ADHD you may be fascinated and want to do your own research. As always, we are not doctors and we recommend you speak with your own doctor before starting any new medication or adjusting your exercise/nutrition significantly.
