Have we confused human burdens with God’s commands?Matthew 23:4-5a. Have we confused pleasing humans with pleasing God?Ecclesiastes 4:4-6. Are we resting? Do we have two hands full of toil?Romans 4:1-8. Are we trying to earn what God gives as a gift?Matthew 19:16-22. Has another master captured our heart?

Series: N/AService: Sun AM (1)Type: SermonSpeaker: Scott KerchevilleWhy did Jesus curse a fig tree and shut down temple operations? In both actions, He exposed the danger of religion that looks healthy on the outside but bears no fruit for God. Mark 11 and the corresponding temple sermon in Jeremiah 7 confront us with a searching question: are we merely leafy, or are we truly fruitful through faith in Christ?

Ashley travelled to Arkansas to meet my family in the summer of 2009 in between our sophomore and junior years of college. One evening we played a card game named “Nerts.” It is a fast-paced game and it always got rowdy in my family. We called names, slapped, pushed, threw cards. It was great. After we cleaned up, I realized Ashley had disappeared. I found her in her bedroom crying. “You guys are so mean! You all hate each other!” I was confused — we just finished…

Series: N/AService: Sun AM (2)Type: SermonSpeaker: Scott KerchevilleWe have the promise of being with Jesus when we die. This can even be preferrable to life on earth (Philippians 1; 2 Corinthians 5). So, why did God raise Jesus from the dead? And why did he promise to raise us (with our bodies) from the dead? Among many reasons, consider two:(1) Resurrection is needed to deal with (and reverse) sin, injustice, and death.(2) Resurrection is needed to restore Christian relationships.
