The Way of Light

How might your life look different today if light were no longer to exist? No more lamps, flashlights, fire, or even the sun. Your whole world would be turned upside down. In fact, why stop there? Life as we know it would cease to exist. So why is it that we choose to live so much of our lives in the dark? We tend to feel safer when we’re not exposed: and yet, the very brokenness we aim to hide grows infinitely more dangerous in the dark. You don’t have to hide anymore. Choose the path worth taking and journey with me as we walk in the Way of Light. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onthewol/support

#24 | Words with friends | Levi Hinshaw

#23 | Face to Face | Practical Evangelism Part 4

Stay tuned for a short but personally significant update on the WOL. The last in the P.E. series. Where Evangelism is first and foremost about sharing the gospel, the good news of Jesus to unbelievers, we all need to start somewhere. Here are some practical ways to lead regular everyday interactions back to Christ, even in smaller ways. As people you speak with seem open to go deeper, do not be afraid to let the Lord take you there! The Gospel is the death burial and resurrection of Christ for the payment of our sins and the salvation of all those who believe. Do not be ashamed of the gospel! Just know your conversations must start somewhere, and this episode will give you ideas on where to start. Search the scriptures. Allow God to have the primary voice in your life. Invite him to speak to you and use you in the overflow of his love for you.

    #22 | I don't know what to do | prayer

A lamp unto our feet brings clarity to immediate steps. A light on our path brings clarity for the future. The word of God does both (Psalm 119:105). And if scripture does not address your situation, let everything that you do, be for the glory of God. This will be the last prayer episode for a while. Stay tuned over the coming weeks to hear more about the plan for TWOL this year.

    #21 | How to not suck at evangelism | P.E. Part 3

Practical Evangelism - It's important to practice as a follower of Jesus. It's also important to understand how to not suck at it. There are two primary ways you could suck at evangelism: 1. When you never try. 2. When your knowledge supersedes your love. So how to we grow? Prayer | Care | Share Here are some basic prayers you may begin with: “Father, thank you for loving me. Help me to love others the same way.” “Lord Jesus, I am your servant. Use me to tell of all you have done.” “God, help me to see others the way you see them.” “Lord God, fill me with boldness to preach the gospel.” “Lead me by your Spirit and give me the words to speak.” “Heavenly Father, you know all things. I do not. Help me do your will.” “Today, LORD, lead me to those you have chosen, but have not yet chosen you.”

    #20 | Love > Knowledge | prayer

As we learn to talk with others about our faith, it is essential to let the love of Christ be on the forefront of our minds. 1 Corinthians 13 makes it very clear that we may possess all knowledge... but without love, we have nothing. *Audio recording is off on this one FYI.

    #19 | Talking with Strangers about Jesus | P.E. Part 2

Practical Evangelism (P.E.) What even is, "evangelism" anyway? - STORY TIME - Well, evangelism is NOT placing an invite card to your church in the checkout aisle of your local Walmart and calling it a day. Are you living out what God created you for? Or have you let fear and insecurity prevent you from sharing about Jesus?

    #18 | Restoring Hope | prayer

    #17 | Making it Personal | Practical Evangelism (P.E.) Pt. 1

When it comes to God's grace, you must learn to receive it before you can share it with integrity. After receiving God's grace, we are tasked with resounding it in the world around us. That is the beginning of evangelism. So where do we start? Swipe up to see this weeks question on Spotify! Leave a comment OR send in a voice recording to share your thoughts. Verses mentioned: Matthew 5:14 Ephesians 2:1-10 Romans 10:13-15 Mark 16:15

#16 | May you EXPERIENCE the love of Christ | prayer

While praying these words, I was met with a truly sincere burden for you. Though I may not know you, our Father does. He knows what you need. My deep desire for you is a mirror of Paul's for Ephesus: That you may experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.

#15 | Who am I becoming? | With Emily Ordonez

From the power of words and identity, to pursuing counterfit light through Netflix binges and masterbation. This conversation goes deep and may just inspire you to modify the way you following Jesus. Emily Ordonez, sets a new standard for me on what it can look like to lead a transparent life. In her recent book, "Broaden Your Becoming", Emily draws out the very things that most often hold us back from who we could become. The very person God created and called you to become may not be so far out of reach. Order, "Broaden Your Becoming" on Amazon Follow Emily, on Instagram: @ordonez__emily

#14 | Remember what the LORD has done | prayer

When it's hard to be grateful for things of today, remember the past and give God his due praise. David's prayer of desperation and transparency might just be what leads us to turn a corner. Check out these 3 primary parts to his song and prayer in Psalm 77. 1. Cry out to God in desperation 2. Share your troubles in great detail 3. Recall what the LORD has already done

#13 | Dead or Dormant? - Lessons from a cricket

Being in and admiring nature has always been a simple way for me to connect with God. This time however, caught me off guard. A lesson I didn't see coming, from a creature I naturally despise. Verses referenced/implied: Ephesians 1:5 Ephesians 1:3 Ephesians 2:10 Hebrews 4:16 1 Peter 2:9 Psalm 46:10 Psalm 37:7 Matthew 11:28-30 Psalm 23

#12 | When you don't want to pray | prayer

Maybe it's just me, but mental and spiritual "funks" take place on a semi-regular basis. What can we do when we just don't feel like praying? Follow Davids example in Psalm 143.

  14. 12

#11 | What triggered this depression

I was certain God messed up making me and feared the thought of people knowing the depths of my emotional brokenness. Vulnerability and transparency are essential to living life in the light. If you are carrying a weight that leaves you feeling alone, you're not. This one is personal. If I can share in transparency, you can too. Book to read: "Try Softer" - Aundi Kolber

#10 | Why should I lift my hands? | prayer

Why do Christians raise their hands during worship? Should it only happen when the music is on, or is it a posture we should be more accustomed too? Embrace this uncomfortable way to pray and make it a habit.

#9 | Brother Fails and Losing Faith | Interview with Breezy Dyck Pt. 2

Tune in to the last of this two part interview with my sister, who has come to believe significantly different things then what we were taught. Learn from my mistakes and let the love of Christ in you compel others to His reality. Hear my younger sisters honest perspective of my failures as a brother.

    #8 | Psalm 23 - Don't miss this | prayer

Take a few moments and allow the Lord to be in his rightful place as your shepherd. Acknowledge your own position as a sheep. You are not in control. Find rest when you release it to him. Pray simply through Psalm 23.

#7 | Finding Common Ground | Interview with Breezy Dyck Pt. 1

Our first guest to interview on the WOL is significant for many reasons. The top reason is the privilege I have to call her my sister. Breezy and I are close in age, yet distant in our beliefs. We grew up in the same home and left with very different perspectives on truth. When she told me a number of years ago that she was an atheist, my pride took over and I focused more on my pitch for Christianity than I did on loving her well. This interview is one that is meant to allow public exposure of my legalistic, self righteous and blindly arrogant past. P.S. Happy birthday little sister! 2/16

    #6 | RUN from robotic | prayer

Have you ever found yourself driving somewhere on autopilot? After being on the road for a while, you don't remember what road you took to get to where you are. It is scary to think that sometimes we can mindlessly drive around in a 4,000 lb heap of metal without considering where we are going. Prayer can feel similar. At times, even robotic. What does King Solomon have to say about the intentionality we should have in our prayers? When it comes to our time with God, mindless moments are meaningless.

  20. 6

    #5 | Yep. Still blind.

It's time to get personal. This is hard to talk about. Each day brings new awareness to the dark corners within our souls and it is no different for me. It feels like every time there is a ray of light bringing hope on the horizon, it is followed with a test of faith. In this talk, I'm getting real about my most recent blind spots.

  21. 5

    #4 | Expose Me | prayer

Everyone has hidden sins. Especially those who assume they do not. In this prayer episode, we will invite God to shine light on those hidden places within us. It is through the exposure of hidden sins that we begin to find freedom from them. Freedom that can only be found in Jesus. - For reference: Psalm 19:12-14 & Psalm 139:23-24

  22. 4

    #3 | Am I blind?

There are dark corners in the heart of every human. Are you aware of yours? Jesus often criticized the Pharisees and "Religious" leaders of his day for holding a flawed perspective of Gods intent for them. They were convinced like many of us today that they could see quite clearly the things of God. All the while, deceiving themselves into thinking the darkness within them was actually light. They thought they could see, but they were actually blind. How can we begin to eliminate the dark corners in our own lives? Admit you are blind Invite the Light Follow it Key Takeaway: Transparency is the gate to the way of light.

  23. 3

    #2 | Fresh Start | prayer

"Good" & "Busy" have become the two primary responses among Americans in response to, "How are you doing?". These responses have become so normalized that we don't consider the repercussions of our busy lives. Slow down and take a moment in prayer today through Psalm 51. Invite God to shine light on the business of your life and create in you a clean heart. A clean heart is a fresh start and it all begins with Jesus. Slow down and listen.

    #1 | The Origin Story

There are key moments in anyone's life that become pivotal in our formation. In this episode, I share some of the personal significant beginnings leading to this project that is, "The Way of Light". For me, it all seemed to start with a blue chair. What was it for you?
