    Waiting Patiently

Curious child Maker of things The flowers are blooming And the rain continues Finger in the wind It’s a hard stop I say what I can say But I have questions I have some history I’ve been out west The road is the road is the road No more and no less You drove your little car From sea to shining sea Now that car sits in the driveway Waiting patiently. You and me In a strange world Together watching Together watching it all I could use We could all use An early morning light Oh a bird in flight Finger in the wind Oh It’s so hard stop Yeah, I say what I can say And I have questions Seems like there’s so much at stake these days Can’t let it can’t let it, get away Well you drove your little car All the way to me And the car sits in the driveway And its waiting, waiting waiting Patiently, patiently. Oh the car sits in the driveway Waiting patiently

    5am

You sing Hallelujah every morning Good god all mighty every night Darker than you thought Well that’s what you get When you pull down your pants down In the middle of the set You take out your gun And you wave it around Drive your truck home To your hometown Gone with the wind Voice in my ear Talked to my dad I suppose you could hear Eighty eight keys and a microphone Five in the morning Sink like a stone I got a basement full of water And a head full of dreams I got nothing to loose Nowhere to be I beat the sun up in the morning Push it up, like a plant coming up In the spring Naked in the basement Waiting for the dryer Small glass of red wine A bit of desire Well I asked myself a question Will this ship ever sail again Looked in the mirror It’s kind of a shame Your house by the bay Has burned down again Turning back I whispered I’m sorry This is who I am And this is what I do Three hour wait to leave for LA It could be, no it could be the last time I see it The ocean I remembered A memory This won’t last forever Someday we will be gone One by one by one It’s getting late When I realize Everything floats Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Well Everything flies Big gulp of whiskey Little glass of wine Its all about that sacred dream The one that doesn’t last forever Well the ice is so thin The applause just a din Yeah Im drinking too much again Said you knew me when Said you knew me when The river rose faster than we thought Getting kind of scary All the leaves are falling from the trees I started walking again I started walking again Looked in the mirror It's Kind of a shame Your house by the bay Has burned down again turning back I whispered Im sorry This is who I am And this is what I do

I have a picture, out of focus A group of my friends when I was twelve It was taken in my back yard The swimming pool behind us Late nights sitting In a room under the stars Riding through the back streets The moon follows the car Well it haunts me just a little How much is just plain gone Some are dead and I’m relying On getting lost in that feeling. And the quarry is full of water It filled up so fast I remember standing near it How deep and empty it could be I made a lemon cake For no good reason I threw in the rest of me Maybe I never tell them It will go to the grave with me What is sacred And it is Sunday, the sun is rising Imagining what it will be like Imagine what will they say When you hear it What will you tell them Tell them about you and me Maybe I will never tell them Maybe it will go with me to my grave I have a picture, out of focus A group of my friends when I was twelve It was taken in my back yard The swimming pool behind us Late nights sitting In a room under the stars Riding through the back streets The moon follows the car Well it haunts me a little How much is just plain gone Some are dead and I’m relying On getting lost in that feeling. Best Intentions 25-2

Saw the card reader sitting there Walked past but she pulled me right in laid out the cards as I watched I’m Damaged goods I’m the sweetest dream I’m good to go My heart is beating Now we’re standing with the stars Like a memory, Like Children The best that we can be Dearly departed We gather here today Drink a toast to those who left Through back our heads and say What ever happened to easy Where all the landmarks go The river is over it’s banks And the rain has turned to snow Our dreams are nesting In the tops of the trees In spite of our best Our best intentions If your heart is worn There’s is my melody With candles lit The best it can be The sea comes up to the sand As usual,I wade right in You give me your hand You give me your hand You give me your hand I must be going I hear my ship coming I Would you believe it We’ve done it again Dearly departed We gather here today Drink a toast to those who left Through back our heads and say Now we’re standing with the stars Like a memory, Like Children The best That we can be Saw the card reader sitting there Walked past but she pulled me right in laid out the cards as I watched I’m Damaged goods I’m the sweetest dream I’m good to go My heart is beating

We gather here today With our best intentions We drink from the cup That’s strapped to our belt Through back our heads and say Darling come back to me now Come back and lie down beside me The river is over it’s banks The leaves are off the trees If your heart is worn Here is my melody I am the song Not the singer Out in the desert To watch the sunset The younger you the younger me I walked past the card reader She pulled me right in She told me to buy her some smokes She laid out the cards in a square as I watched I asked her what she could see She brings birds to the feeder I watched her dance With a version of me Out in the desert Walk one more time The younger you and the younger me Now we’re standing with the stars This will be a memory Like Children Like children Darling come back to me now Come back and lie down beside me I can’t dance this dance without you

Caught By The Bridge And The Branches

Lyrics Well the house on the corner burned down I took your picture where the living room was You were holding You were holding a baby It was a Polaroid And it faded with time Nothing to restore the view New water Through old grounds Stronger then I remember Stronger then I remember remember it well Sometimes I dream of the past Up against the fence I would finish what you started. You liked to call us strangers And you told me what to do They found a body in the river Below the dogwood Bloom Caught by the bridge and the branches I stole my mothers cigarettes In the winter I stole my mother’s money In the spring I know a man Who drags his stuff behind him And he goes from town to town He’s a heavy metal gypsy And he’s wearing the crown His mother never told him She was proud I see folks sitting by the ocean Looking out over the water And every day I see more I suspect they’re lonely And the water Is a comfort Knowing they can’t run anymore They found a body in the river Below the dogwood Bloom Caught by the bridge, caught by the branches

    Something Different On My Face

Sitting in the same seat in Starbucks That I sat in in January It was much colder then, everything was frozen. And the sun was much farther behind Thinking of you driving east in a dress And how the everything is carried by the wind And how the wind is us So much greener now Everything has blossomed A rush of cold air surrounds the oyster bar near the paddock Lots of skinny legs in shorts I take a couple pictures of the plane There's something different on my face The sun's now on the horizon. And a tail wind will carry me west and I race the sun 240 miles from Chicago Running 15 minutes early Over the great lakes An island shaped like an elephant Engines powering down One large stack from a factory Makes a small mark on the atmosphere And the clouds, oh the clouds Clouds fall off to the south While putting on my scented oil I spill it Now I am sure the rest of the plane knows my story too They know my desire They know my place They know They know just how I undressed her Yeah, just how I undressed her Engines off ....we float Dropping slowly back to earth The only straight lines below are made by us In our desire to get to where we are going Giving us away And I laugh just a little Yeah I laugh just a little My ears pop There's something different on my face There's something different on my face There's something different on my face And a tailwind carries me west

    We The Living

We the living Yeah we take our time There’s always tomorrow To make up our mind We the living We’ve got troubles ahead Making mountains out of mole hills I’ve heard that said Oh I miss you so miss you so Oh I miss you so We the living Learn to laugh and smile But love and understanding That can take a while Oh I miss you so Miss you so Oh I miss you so Do you ever feel Like you missed the train You got off at the station And there you remained Every train that came by Blew it’s whistle in the air It wasn’t calling you It wasn’t calling you It wasn’t calling you I wish my words meant more So much more They are hollow in my head
