Time for Crime

Almost 30 years after two young women were brutally murdered in Phoenix, the man charged with the killings could be sentenced to death. Bryan Patrick Miller, who is now 49, was not arrested until 2015 when new genealogy data led to a breakthrough in the cold case and is now going to trial. He is accused of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of attempted sexual assault.

Gary Lee Triano was a millionaire real estate developer from Tucson, Arizona who was killed in Catalina Foothills by a pipe bomb explosion in his Lincoln Town Car on November 1, 1996. His former wife, Pamela Anne Phillips, a one-time model, real estate agent and socialite, was charged with orchestrating her ex-husband's death. In a sensational trial nearly 18 years after Triano's murder, Phillips was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Phillips, who is now incarcerated at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Perryville, claims that Triano's death was a mob revenge killing.

On the night of October 24/25, 1996, Doris Carlson drove John McReaken and Scott Smith, roomers in her house, to the nursing home where Doris Carlson's elderly mother-in-law, Lynne Carlson, resided. Smith served as lookout while McReaken entered the building. McReaken repeatedly stabbed Lynne in a bungled attempt to kill her. Lynne suffered greatly, but did not succumb to her fatal injuries for some 6 months.

On November 24, 2009 Shari Lee Tobyne shoots and kills her husband Dwight Tobyne, dismembers his body, and discards the remains in three separate counties.  What was the reason for her to murder her husband and chop up his body?

Marjorie Ann Orbin is an American woman who murdered her husband Jay Orbin in Phoenix, Arizona, on or about September 8, 2004, which would have been his 45th birthday. Jay Orbin was a jewelry dealer. In September 2004 he returned home to Phoenix from a road trip to Florida. Police said he arrived at his home on September 8, based on cell phone and credit-card records. He was never seen alive again.

The morning of August 10,1991 a cook for the Waddell Buddhist Temple came to work as usual. The cook opened the door to discover Arizona’s most gruesome mass shooting. There were p members shot in the back of the head and placed face down in a circle. An investigation launched and 4 men from Tucson were arrested and brutally interrogated but did police have the right suspects. Sloppy forensics, false confessions and 13 hour interrogations did little to help solve the case. Finally with a small break in the case, everything changed.

On February 24, 2006, Charles Vallow married Lori Ryan (Afterwards knows as Lori Vallow) in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Charles,  a lifelong Catholic, became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), converting to his new wife's faith. This is the story of this fine man’s demise at the hands of the people that he trusted.

It was January 2, 1999, and 9-year-old Kimber Biggs and her 11-year-old sister were playing in the street in their Mesa neighborhood while waiting for an ice cream truck.  After a while, Mikelle's sister got cold and went inside for her jacket; her sister stayed to wait, clutching the quarters she got from her mom to buy ice cream.  When she returned minutes later, her sister had vanished, her bike lying abandoned on the sidewalk beside two quarters strewn in the street.  

After a night of partying with a friend, 42 year old Brian Eftenoff of Phoenix, AR comes home to find his 30 year old wife Judi unconscious and near death. She dies minutes later despite efforts to revive her. After an investigation police make Brian their prime suspect, believing that he forced his wife to take a lethal dose of cocaine.

When Baby Gabriel disappeared more than 11 years ago, his young mom, Elizabeth Johnson, became a household name.  Elizabeth took Gabriel, then 8 months old, to San Antonio in violation of a custody agreement with his father, Logan McQueary. She told McQueary that she smothered the baby, but changed her story, claimed she gave him to a couple she met in a San Antonio Park. 

Jason Derek Brown is an American fugitive wanted for first degree murder and armed robbery in Phoenix, Arizona. On November 29, 2004, Brown allegedly shot and killed an armored car guard outside a movie theater and then fled with the money.  On December 8, 2007, he was named by the FBI as the 489th fugitive to be placed on its Ten Most Wanted list

Arizona, which ruled that criminal suspects must be informed of their right against self-incrimination and their right to consult with an attorney before being questioned by police. This warning is known as a Miranda warning.

Eva Dugan was a convicted of murderer the murder of Andrew J. Mathis.  She was sentenced to execution by hanging at the state prison in Florence, Arizona, resulted in her decapitation and influenced the state of Arizona to replace hanging with the lethal gas chamber as a method of execution.

Elizabeth Diane Downs is an American criminal who murdered her daughter and attempted to murder her other two children near Springfield, Oregon, in May 1983. Following the crimes, she told police a man had attempted to carjack her and had shot the children. She was convicted in 1984 and sentenced to life in prison plus fifty years.

Winnie Ruth Judd  was a medical secretary in Phoenix, Arizona, who was accused of murdering her friends, Agnes Anne LeRoi and Hedvig Samuelson, in October 1931. The murders were discovered when Judd transported the victims' bodies, one of which had been dismembered, from Phoenix to Los Angeles, California by train in trunks and other luggage, causing the press to name the case the "Trunk Murders". Judd allegedly committed the murders to win over the affections of Jack Halloran, a prominent Phoenix businessman.
