Episode 5: Heir of Fire Part 2 - Deep Dive

In this episode, we will be discussing the plotlines of the characters that are back in Erilea, while Aelin is in Wendlyn. These characters include Dorian and Chaol, as well as a couple new and important characters: Aedion Ashryver is introduced, as well as Manon Blackbeak and the Witch Clans.  In this book, Dorian and Chaol face fracturing loyalties in Rifthold. Dorian is struggling to hide his forbidden magical abilities from his father, while seeking a way to control them. Chaol is torn between his duty to the King and his personal moral compass. We meet Aedion Ashryver, a general in the King of Adarlan’s army… and also Celaena/Aelin’s cousin. We learn that Aedion is playing a strategic game within the court of Adarlan - balancing his ruthless public image with a hidden mission to protect the things he cares about most. We also get to (finally) meet Manon Blackbeak, the heir to the Blackbeak Witch Clan, who is tasked with training wyverns and forced to compete in violent war games. We'd love to know in the comments... Which major character would make the absolute worst real-life roommate, and who is defending them? Next week we will continue our ToG coverage, jumping into book 5, Queen of Shadows! We are focusing solely on Part 1: Lady of Shadows. Episode 4: Heir of Fire - Part 1 - Deep Dive

In this episode, we will be discussing the plot lines and character arcs of only Aelin, Rowan, and the events happening in Wendlyn and Doranelle. Since this book introduces several new characters, and takes place on two different continents in the ToG world, we are splitting up our coverage into two different episodes, following the characters that are on different continents, separately. This book follows Celaena Sardothien after the devastating events of Crown of Midnight. Emotionally broken by loss and guilt, she is sent across the sea to the kingdom of Wendlyn. Rather than carrying out the mission she was sent to complete, she instead begins a journey of self-discovery that forces her to face her true identity. She is forced to confront aspects of herself that she has spent years running from and denying. This novel expands the world of Throne of Glass, and lays the foundation for the epic conflicts that follow. We'd love to know what you thought of Heir of Fire. People seem to either love it or hate it. We are split down the middle! Episode 3: The Assassin's Blade - Deep Dive

This week, we are diving into The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas, the prequel novel, typically read 3rd in the 8 book series. The Assassin’s Blade is a prequel collection of five novellas that takes place prior to the events of Throne of Glass (book 1). It follows Celaena Sardothien, Adarlan’s most notorious assassin, as she navigates dangerous missions, tests the limits of her loyalty to the Assassin’s Guild, and fights for her independence. The last novella in this book ultimately leads directly to Celaena being enslaved in Endovier, which happens prior to the events of ToG. The book explores themes of freedom, friendship, love, courage, and personal growth, while introducing many characters and events that become important later in the Throne of Glass series. We’d love to know if you prefer reading this book 1st, 3rd, or if you have a different reading order.
