A Fond TTFN from Trek in the Valley

As you may have noticed, there wasn't a new episode of the podcast last week and there isn't this week either. Al has officially, and on good terms, left the show because he has other positive stuff to focus on! I, Adam, the other A name on the pod, am taking this as a sign to work on other projects...such as my podcast Movies Over My Hammy where we cover movies and their food tie-in menu items.  Stay subscribed to this feed because if and when I bring Trek in the Valley back, I want ya'll to be the first folks to know.  Huge thanks to Al for four years of fun podcasting. Be sure to follow him so you know whenever he drops music or whatever else he gets up to.  Follow Al: instagram.com/eyyemm95 @am95 SoundCloud.comic/a_l_f_r_e_d_o Check out Movies Over My Hammy here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/movies-over-my-hammy/id1859822205 Check out Adam's Free COMEDY SPECIAL: https://youtu.be/Qrhh1Fmw0_w?si=2WmYipY6kbPDiKpR Opening Theme Produced By Al Hirt Podcast art by Josh Trumbo of the Kamikaze Snowmen

    S3 EP 8: "The Price"

"It's a dry well. It's worthless." Woooah, folks! Here we have a classic diplomacy episode of TNG with "The Price." Picard finds himself hosting negotiations between a planet who found a stable worm hole, and the grimy space capitalists that want to buy access to it - plus the Federation. Also, Lloyd Braun from Seinfeld uses his secret Betazoid powers to control the negotiations and possibly...Troi's heart? Includes some absolutely disgusting massage stuff. Adam and Al get into it on this week's Trek in the Valley! Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 7: "The Enemy"

"Brinksmanship is a dangerous game." Romulans, man! Can't trust them to help you until you can, but then more Romulans show up that you don't have a connection with and things get weird. I think that's what this episode was about. Geordi met a Romulan in a lightening cave and there was a Neutral Zone standoff between Picard and a Romulan captain. The fate of the cease fire was in jeopardy, I tell you! Anyway, we have a great time talking about it. Check it out. If you dare! It actually isn'y foreboding like that.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 6: "Booby Trap"

"I was never a boy." Trek in the Vallites! We've got a Geordi coming in hot. In Star Trek: The Next Generation, S3 EP6, "Booby Trap" at first it seems like maybe Geordi is an incel, but it turns out he just can't relax around a lady unless she is the holographic personification of an engineer that is helping him solve a problem before everyone on the ship dies of radiation poisoning. Also, Worf has a couple good lines. We talk about it all and also more! Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 5: "The Bonding"

"I've always believed that having children on a starship is a very questionable policy. Serving on a starship means accepting certain risks, certain dangers. Did Jeremy Aster make that choice?" This week Adam and Al dig into an emotional and philosophical episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, with S3 EP 4, "The Bonding." In this episode, pretty much every single person feels responsible for some kind of death in some way. The various members of the crew navigate these feelings while dealing with a sort of powerful alien presence that, you guessed it, feels responsible for some sort of death. All that, plus Al having a successful what does Al remember, and some insightful recommendations, on episode #174 of Trek in the Valley.   Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 4: "Who Watches the Watchers"

"We grow, we live, and we die. In all the ways that matter; we are alike." Trek in the Vallites! We have a hot one coming on down out of the 'ol podcast tube. This episode is full of great guest stars and folks absolutely dropping hot craps on the Prime Directive. As always, Adam and Al dig into it with grace and aplomb.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 3: "The Survivors"

"No, no, no, no, no. You don't understand the scope of my crime. I didn't kill just one Husnock, or a hundred, or a thousand….I killed them all. All Husnock… everywhere." Woof. Kind of an intense episode this week, Trek in the Vallites. We're covering S2 Episode 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "The Survivors"! Picard and the gang run into the two surviving colonists of a massacre. However, and you are not going to even begin to start to even try to believe this, things are not as they seem! S3 EP 2: "The Ensigns of Command"

"Excessive honesty can be disastrous." Trek in the Vallites unite for we have a ripper of a Data episode. Picard suggests Data could be a little less honest at times to hide his weaknesses as an android pursuing command. Data uses that idea to mixed results while trying to convince some idiot settlers on some planet to not let the owners of the planet show up and vaporize them. Data and Picard are both on their various ticking clocks and we get into it! The alien race of the week is quite rad.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! S3 EP 1: "Evolution"

"I can't get the story of Gulliver out of my head; overpowered by Lilliputians." Cue "Evolution" By Edward Vedder and the Pearl Jam Gang! This week, Trek in the Vallites, we are covering the first episode of Season 3 of Star Trek: TNG, "Evolution." Which means this is technically season SIX of Trek in the Valley. In this one, the ship gets taken down a peg by tiny robo space-bugs or something! We recorded it a couple weeks ago. Wes Crusher seems to have become less annoying during the break between seasons.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! S2 EP 22: "Shades of Gray"

"How do we know this bug doesn't like androids more than it likes humans?" This week we get our first Star Trek: TNG clip show with the Season Finale of S2 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Shades of Gray." This episode tricks you into thinking it is going to be about Riker almost dying from alien infection, but then when the B-Story is supposed to kick in, it turns into a clips show. We touch on the "they were out of money" of it all, mention the writer's strike, but not in depth because we don't do that! Man, Frakes sometimes gets tied to bad Star Trek Season Finales... TNG S2 EP 21: "Peak Performance"

"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness, that is life." "Do you want to play a game?"...Is what Starfleet asked Picard. To which he said, "I would rather not, but I guess we need to be ready to fight the Borg so, sure." In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, Peak Performance, Riker and a ragtag crew in a derelict ship, face off against the might of Picard and the Enterprise. Will Word and Riker's guile, and Acting Ensign Crusher's open cheating, be enough to win? Or will it all go wonky when a Ferengi captain thinks he smells a profit? Oh, also, they play this weird game with the stuffy strategist observer where the competitors have these weird finger-milking gloves on while they play Connect 12 or whatever. Pretty gross! TNG S2 EP 20: "The Emissary"

"Sometimes I feel there's a monster inside of me, fighting to get out." Everyone, quick! Check it out. Adam and Al got together on the computer once again to record an episode of Trek in the Valley for YOU! This week the dudes in the Valley are covering a classic TNG episode which gets some of their highest ratings yet. In, "The Emissary" Worf is faced with a lady from his past and then he presumably loses his virginity. Also, some thawing Klingons pose a threat to Starfleet outposts. Don't worry, it all comes together, Star Trek style, and the dudes talk about it. Also, Al is stoked about the World Cup and Adam had to briefly be a wet blanket about it because, fun fact about Adam, he kind of sucks. Like the podcast and throw us a review! TNG S2 EP 19: "Manhunt"

"What a handsome race." This week the great Lwaxana Troi is back to shake things up on the Enterprise. She is going through Betazoid Super Menopause and she has her sights set on Picard. Picard attempts to hide from Lwaxana in a Dixon Hill story on the Holodeck that absolutely does not pay off in terms of action. Instead, Lwaxana becomes quite taken with a holo-bartender that she thinks is a genuine human man! Oh yeah, also, she is very racist and she solves an assassination plot out of the blue at the end. Also, also Adam tells the story about how he did road rage and thusly got road raged at!  **The audio is weird on this one. We had a bad input that caused some cracking. Still a good listen, because we have done this many times and are quite skilled, but you might get a crackle here and there and it isn't your ear budders.** Like the podcast and throw us a review! TNG S2 EP 18: "Up The Long Ladder"

"Now that's what I call a wee drop of the creature." We are Looney Toons 2: Back in Action. Meaning, Al is off of his adventure with trying to decide if fish is bad or not (it was), not, we are talking about the Joe Dante Looney Toons sequel. What an episode with which to return to coming back with...returning to! Picard is right in his element solving a space mystery. Hundreds of years ago a group of space colonists was split in two and half of them became old timey Irish people and the other half became science clone people! The solution to how the clones will reproduce without cloning may NOT surprise you.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! TOS S1 EP 17: "The Squire of Gothos" (Re-Release)

"I'll fix you for that! You cheated! You haven't played the game right! I'll show you!" Happy Sunday, gang. Hope you're all having a good long weekend if you can get it. We've got a bit of a curve ball this week. Al is out sick with some sort of disease. He is waiting on an intrepid starship crew to bring him his medicine but they are delayed by an all powerful what have you and such. Adam went down to a storage unit in the bowels of the ship to grab a classic from Season One of Trek in the Valley (and of Star Trek: The Original Series), "The Squire of Gothos." Yes, you could just go back and listen to this if you are new to the show, but this way, the levels are boosted with the new outro, it shows up in the top of your feed and Adam gets to check the "released an episode of TitV" box on his list so he doesn't lose his mind like when the Wendy's drive thru was closed. Anywho, this is what the show sounded like when we started out. If you enjoy the primitive vibes, go back and listen to those eps on the feed.  We will be back with a brand new episode next week with Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Up The Long Ladder." TNG S2 EP 17: "The Samaritan Snare"

"We are smart." Wowie-zowie, Trek in the Vallites, Adam is incredibly dumb. We know this about Adam. He's funny. He's handsome. He's charming. He's even pretty smart. He's also very dumb. What did he do this time? While, he did put together that, yes the "Snare" in the episode title refers to a trap, however he missed that the "Samaritan" in the title refers to the fact that the Pakleds run this con where they look for a samaritan to snare. Then, icing on the taco gang, Adam had to write this description in the third person, like a maniac. All this, and so much more, as Adam and Al cover Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 2 Episode 17, "The Samaritan Snare." Like the podcast and throw us a review! TNG S2 EP 16: "Q-Who?"

"You judge yourselves against the pitiful adversaries you've encountered so far: the Romulans, the Klingons. They're nothing compared to what's waiting." Listen up, everyone! This is one of the most important episodes of TNG ever. It is a **Top Rated** episode on IMDB for Satan's sake! In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "Q-Who?", Q is back and he is up to some even more extreme tricks! After his application for a job on the Enterprise is rejected, Q gets mad and tosses the Enterprise to a far away sector where eventually people die for real (in the show).  After Guinan does some space wizard hands at Q the crew finds themselves face to face with THE BORG (woah, that's one of the alien races that becomes integral to all of Star Trek...yeah, I know - it is a good an important episode). TNG S2 EP 15: "Pen Pals"

"Your whisper from the dark has now become a plea. We cannot turn our backs." Well well well. Well. If it isn't another week of Trek in the Valley. I am going to pop on Polymarket or Kalshi and just bet that maybe Adam and Al are going to come zipping in to town from outerspace to walk you through an episode of Star Trek where Data breaks the law! I think that bet would get me fine pile of credit chips.  In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "Pen Pals", data befriends a little girl on a pre-warp planet and he stomps all over the dang prime directive to help her out. I thought he was supposed to be some kind of lawyer-bot! Anyway, Adam and Al really dig in to this noodle scratcher.  Like the podcast and throw us a review! TNG S2 EP 14: "The Icarus Factor"

"You choose your enemies. You choose your friends. But, family, that's in the stars."  This week Adam and Al are in a bit of a disagreement over if this episode is low mid (Al) or mid plus (Adam) when they discuss Star Trek: TNG, "The Icarus Factor." A lot goes on this episode, gang, but primarily it is about Polaski being gross with Riker's dad. Riker's dad who is an old adult man named Kyle! I hope you aren't too honked out on that super dank greenage, because if you are, this episode is going to straight to your dome, bro. There is a strong possibility, you will flip your lid. This week, Adam and Al cover the Star Trek: TNG episode "Time Squared". This episode has twice the Picard and not enough Data. We do get to see Picard come face to face with his greatest fear; that he may actually be a terrified little baby coward man. "I don't believe this dialog. Did humans really talk like that?" The Enterprise gets a tip, from the Klingons of all space people, regarding the remains of a straaaaaange vessel. Adam and Al are here to tell you about it. In the Star Trek: TNG episode, "The Royale", we get another entry in the "Holodeck w/o Holodeck" sub-genre of Star Trek episodes AND the "Crew Finds Some Nasa Crap" sub-genre. The writers went, "we want to have the crew in an old timey Atlantic City hotel, but we can't go back the holodeck. What if the crew finds a holodeck somewhere else? Also, Nasa crap? I must protect his dream." WOWIE Trek in the Vallites. This one is a double dog doozy. We start with Al discussing how he is in the process of playing the field for a new guru, and then that segues nicely into this philosophy heavy episode of Star Trek: TNG, "The Measure of a Man." The guys talk about how wild it is that the Federation has an officer more racist against robots than Pulaski, how Data isn't property, and how Riker is just too dang good at his job. TNG S2 EP 6: "The Schizoid Man"

“When I stroke my beard thusly, do I not appear more intellectual?” Listen, this is very serious. A serious thing happened in this week's episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In "The Schizoid Man", Data proves that he truly has the humanity of a common rube as he basically tells his grandpa how to kill him. Adam and Al will help make sense of this absolutely sick and twisted story of possession and desire.  Like, subscribe, do all the stuff! TNG S2 EP 5: "Loud As A Whisper"

"They have been killing each other for a long time. Now they want to talk peace. So, something about the situation has recently changed. What's the new piece to the puzzle?" Hey Folks. This one is wild. We are covering a classic Troi-centered episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Loud as a Whisper". The Enterprise transports a very unique negotiator to help warring factions on a planet out there in the outer space somewhere. This guy is a negotiating genius and he has a disability that gives the writers the ability to discuss themes of disability and communication and patience. Also, these themes hit close to the visor for Geordi who has some very tough decisions to make! The storytelling is clumsy at times, but ultimately, it seems like they land fairly close to the right side of history. Don't yell at us. Like, subscribe, do all the stuff! TNG S2 EP 4: "The Outrageous Okona"

"Life is like loading twice your cargo weight onto your spacecraft. If it's canaries, and you can keep half of them flying all of the time, you're all right." We are back in the technological void that is your devices to discuss a fun episode of Star Trek: TNG, "The Outrageous Okona." You are not going to believe this, but in this episode, the Rocketeer and Lois Lane get down! Data learns about comedy from the medium from Ghost and Joe Piscopo from Saturday Day and Night Live. You would need to listen to this podcast to believe that we talked about it, that's for sure! **NOTE: There is a bit of background noise on Al's mic for the first 15 minutes or so! TNG S2 EP 3: "Elementary, Dear Data"

"I'll give you credit for your vast knowledge but your circuits would just short out if you were confronted with a truly original mystery." Well well well. Back to the 'ol holodeck. Back the phantasy room. Back to the crazy computer world making machine. This week Adam and Al cover, "Elementary, Dear Data"; in which, Dr. Racist Against Robots Pulaski challenges Data to solve a mystery. After calling him a fraud numerous times she gets kidnapped by a sentient Professor Moriarty. Oh, yeah, Data is Sherlock Holmes. Geordi is Watson. The dudes in the Valley enjoyed it! TNG S2 EP 2: "Where Silence Has Lease"

"Considering the marvelous complexity of the universe, its clockwork perfection, its balances of this against that, matter, energy, gravitation, time, dimension, I believe that our existence must be more than either of these philosophies."  Woah, folks. This one is a hot one that is coming in hot. Silence is having lease in a place and it is going to get wild for the crew of the Starship Enterprise. This week, Adam and Al cover Star Trek TNG S2 EP 2, "Where Silence Has Lease." Picard and the crew run into a massive space hole (heh heh heh...hole) and as is usually the case with these things, they end up inside that hole! Turns out is just another case of an advanced life form making sure humans are super evil. The results may shock you. Like, subscribe, do all the stuff! Happy Holidays From Adam and Al at Trek in the Valley! Adam here. I just wanted to drop into your feed to say that we are not back up and running with a remote set up since Al departed Los Angeles County! We are both chomping at whatever people chomp at to get back to it. We look forward to coming back at the end of the year or the beginning of 2026 with Star Trek: TNG Season 2. TNG S1 EP 25: "The Neutral Zone"

“Homemaker; must have been some kind of construction work.” Ohhh folks, this week the dudes in the Valley cover the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 1, "The Neutral Zone". Remember the big bad bugs from last week? Well, forget about them! One of the original big bad aliens is back in this sector, the ROMULANS. Those old goofballs from probably our favorite episode of ToS, "Balance of Terror" are back to solve a space mystery that is affecting both Romulan and Federation Space. They conclude that they need to take a firmer stance on the border of the NZ.  Also, Al has moved so the podcast is switching to 100% remote. Trying to keep the delay between seasons to a minimum, and we will hope to do the traditional season wrap up episode. Things are in flux but we are transitioning to a new era for the pod and we are stoked about it.  Like, subscribe, do all the stuff! This episode is a heartfelt Picard character building episode with a bit of time jumping madness. Adam and Al have a lot of fun talking about it and they are big fans of multiple Datas! Did I miss the point?” “No you didn’t, Data, you got it.” This episode was an absolute stunner when it first aired and honestly, it holds up! “Worf, how fast can you get a phaser lock?” “Fast.” This week Adam and Al are back for another fun time chat through of a Star Trek: TNG episode. On the docket for this week: The Arsenal of Freedom.  What if a planet of weapons salesfolks made a weapon so powerful it killed them all? “They are warning the dead, sir. A Klingon warrior is about to arrive.” This week, the dudes in the Valley cover Star Trek: TNG, “Heart of Glory.” This episode digs into Worf and Klingons and all of that good blood an honor stuff. Basically, some Klingons are mad about the Klingon / Federation Alliance and they get all Worm Tongue in Worf’s ear about it.  Opening Theme Produced By Al Hirt Podcast art by Josh Trumbo of the Kamikaze Snowmen Follow the Podcast on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/trekinthevalley.bsky.social Follow Al: instagram.com/eyyemm95 @am95 SoundCloud.comic/a_l_f_r_e_d_o

TNG S1 EP 18: "Coming of Age"

"Expect the unexpected." This week the dudes in the Valley cover Star Trek: TNG, "Coming of Age." It is in large part a Wesley episode and yet it manages to be quite good. Wesley has to take a fancy test and a girl who is out of his league calls him cute (he isn't). Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, we get a clip show without clips where the crew is grilled under a Star Fleet Internal Investigation about their past missions. TNG S1 EP 17: "Home Soil"

“It seems we are becoming detectives, Number One.” Terraforming! The act of turning a vacant rock devoid of even any chance of intelligent life is always the cornerstone of a society advancing across the stars.  But what if you screw up? What if there is some kind of life you didn't look for? Life made of plastic or something, maybe? Anyway, you will have screwed up big time and you probably got some people killed. Now you need to get a different job. Nobody in the terraforming world will give some killer of plastic aliens a second chance! "We need some of your children." This week the Enterprise crew runs afoul of an ancient civilization of artists and thinkers heretofore thought to be a myth. Oh yeah, and they need just a FEW of the children from the Enterprise to kick start the resurgence of their race because they don't understand genetics and such.  Adam and Al talk about it with much delight.  Opening Theme Produced By Al Hirt Podcast art by Josh Trumbo of the Kamikaze Snowmen Follow the Podcast on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/trekinthevalley.bsky.social Follow Al: instagram.com/eyyemm95 @am95 SoundCloud.comic/a_l_f_r_e_d_o

This week the dudes in the Valley cover the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "11001001," in which we meet the Bynars who take over the ship but for good raisins!  The Enterprise crew should learn their lesson about letting mysterious aliens work with Starfleet folks to upgrade systems on the ship.
