Two Blokes and Their Books

This month--with Mercury in Virgo--Scot regales us with one of his very favourite stories: The Search for the Holy Grail (the real one, not the one by Monty Python). It's a wild tale of magic, holy objects, and chivalry: all the things that make for a great story!So join us as we learn about Sir Lancelot the Ladies Man, Sir Galahad the Christ Figure, Sir Bors the Obscure, and, of course, King Arthur and the Holy Grail.

Sorry for the late upload! This month, the blokes return to Aristotle's Metaphysics. We cover matter, form, and concrete being, as well as one of Aristotle's several criticisms of Plato's Forms.

This month (with the sun in Cancer), Scot introduces us to the long and interesting literary history of Robin Hood.

In part three of our study of Aristotle's Metaphysics, we finally get to the Metaphysics! We begin with Book 6, which asks what kind of science we can use to find the causes and principles of being qua being, after which we begin Book 7. In Book 7, Aristotle wants to establish what he means when he talks about being. This month the blokes return to Aristotle. Dimitri runs us through the rest of Aristotle's "Categories", laying out his thoughts about the categories themselves. This month Dimitri begins his exposition of Aristotle's Metaphysics, although we don't begin there. Our Redcross knight is overcome, intrepid Una enlists the help of a famous prince, and, even after his deliverance, the Redcross knight barely avoids succumbing to despair. Hard to know how to describe this one. The blokes try to talk about the metaphysical status of narratives and the characters that populate them and end with a rousing (if un-nuanced) critique of the Postmodern mistrust of metanarrative. If none of that makes sense, don't worry: there are two blue-collar, self-educated blokes with delusions of grandeur to clarify.

We eventually circle back to Thomas Oord and his approach to evil.
