An ex-traffic patrol officer with a cult following known as The Church of The Last Testament was arrested in his settlement in Siberia at dawn on Sept 21, 2020. Twenty-seven years ago, on February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents attempted to execute a “dynamic entry” into the compound of The Branch Davidians at Mount Carmel. The failed operation then turned into a 51-day standoff. During that time, Koresh and most of his followers had refused to leave the compound, which was surrounded by tanks, armored vehicles, and more than 600 federal agents. The standoff ended when a fire engulfed the complex on April 19, 1993. Most people can tell you what happened on April 19, 1993, in Waco, Texas when law enforcement laid siege to the Branch Davidian compound. Eventually, the FBI launched an assault and initiated a tear gas attack in an attempt to force the Branch Davidians out of the ranch. Shortly thereafter, the Mount Carmel Center quickly became engulfed in flames. The fire resulted in the deaths of 76 Branch Davidians, including 25 children, two pregnant women, and the current leader, David Koresh. But how were the Branch Davidians formed?
