This Sunday, in John 15, Jesus will say to his small band of disciples, ‘I have called your friends’. It is what he calls any one of us, as we come to put our faith in him. And what a friend we have in Jesus! The one who can say, because of his love (John 15.13) - friend, your sins are forgiven. The friend who promises to walk with us through the valley. The friend who can lead us safe, home, to the place he has prepared for us. What friend!

Jesus delivers the Upper Room Discourse, comforting His troubled disciples on the eve of His crucifixion.

In John 13:1-17, Jesus washes his disciples' feet during the Last Supper. This shocking act of humility demonstrated his radical, selfless love. By taking the role of a lowly servant, Jesus taught his followers that true greatness in his kingdom is found in serving others, not in seeking status.

John 12:44-50 is the final public speech of Jesus in the Gospel of John. It highlights three key themes: unity with the Father, salvation versus judgment, and the divine authority of His words.

The Apostle Paul urges believers to live out their faith by maintaining unity, practicing humility, and using their diverse spiritual gifts. He explains that every Christian is equipped by church leaders to build up the body of Christ, ultimately leading to spiritual maturity and truth-filled love.

Paul defines a divine mystery: God’s plan to unite both Jews and Gentiles into one unified body (the Church). Previously hidden, this was revealed so that all people can be fellow heirs of Christ.

This pivotal moment outlines the universal pattern of sin: deception leading to disobedience, which results in shame, broken relationships, and attempts to hide from God. It sets the stage for the rest of the Bible, establishing humanity's desperate need for redemption and a Saviour - the second Adam.

Rather, in James 3 the focus is on how faithful Christians speak about other human beings made in God’s own image, calling us to account for abusive language. However, to get to this argument, James begins with a meditation on human speech and on the potentially destructive power of the human tongue.

True, saving faith is inherently active and inevitably produces good works, while faith without action is dead, useless, and merely intellectual agreement.

Favouritism - if you fail to love God and other people, everything else falls apart.

True faith perseveres through trials, finds joy in spiritual status over earthly wealth, and matures by obeying God’s Word.

James says that for followers of Jesus, joy is not to be tucked away on a shelf like a fine wine, kept on special reserve and poured out only in those rare occasions when we believe all is as it should be

Jesus's physical resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian faith, proving His victory over sin and death, and guaranteeing believers will also rise with immortal bodies, transforming our hope from a mere wish to a powerful, enduring reality, urging steadfastness in faith and service.
