But their lives and stories have value and deserve to be shared. Just as they, as human beings and children of God, deserved to die with dignity. Like me and others, Miles heard a call from God, a call to do something he'd never thought of doing. Also like me, it took him a while to say yes. But once he did, what he and his team have created has been a huge blessing to those who have walked through their doors. And a blessing to all those involved. Welcome to Episode 175 of the Warrior Words podcast!   When God told me I was supposed to be a podcaster and public speaker, I had no idea how to do either one. I didn't want to do either one. In this episode, both of those things come together! I am speaking with my speaking coach, Emanuela Hall! It's amazing that when you are obedient to the Holy Spirit, He directs you to what - or who - you need. Emanuela is a performer and lover of the stage, who found a neglected niche in 2020 when people started to move online more and more. She started coaching, creating courses, podcasting, and doing all the things on social media to build an online business. She also had three children, whom she now homeschools, and three births that didn't go as planned. Then she decided to do something for herself and participated in a 30-day creativity challenge. In those 30 days, she wrote a short play about her breastfeeding experiences and was blessed to be able to perform it on the stage. She struggled with all of the "shoulds" and "have-tos" of being a mom. And in 2025, those "shoulds" started showing up in her business. But she learned from her motherhood "shoulds" and realized that she could take a pause to discover who she was created to be. Were all of these things in her life things she wanted or that which society told her she "should" be? Welcome to Episode 172 of the Warrior Words podcast!   When it rains, it pours. That's a sentiment I've held onto most of my life. It seems, looking back (and while living it!), that it's poured most of my five+ decades. There's a story in the Bible about this, with which we are all likely familiar: The Story of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15. Welcome to Episode 166 of the Warrior Words podcast!   Happy Easter ~ He is Risen! Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we, too, have hope in our own salvation and resurrection. We now have hope of Eternal Life after death. Death is not the end. It does not have the final say. Jesus conquered death. And so, when our loved ones pass on from life on this earth, we have hope that we will see them again, and more importantly, that they will be with Jesus in eternity. So Eastertide is the perfect opportunity to share a story about a friend who ended her battle with cancer recently. I share with a little of my own selfish sadness, but I also share with hope, joy, and lessons learned. There is beauty in the suffering she gracefully endured, and there is beauty in my grief as her friend. So I share the blessings of friendship, as well as some lessons from this specific friendship that I think are applicable to many of our relationships. I recently had the opportunity to volunteer for an event. In this episode, I called my reaction stupid and selfish. And it's true, but it's also silly (I love alliteration!). It truly is a way to shift the focus from your mess to helping someone else with theirs. While I was serving, I wasn't thinking about the stuff going on in my own life. I was sharing with other people and having conversations - one even made someone consider something opposite to her beliefs. My participation encouraged others and made people smile. Serving is designed to help others, but it also helps us as we serve. Welcome to Episode 159 of the Warrior Words podcast!   Are podcasters authorities? This is a question I thought about this week, as my week took a different turn. I've spent the last few weeks talking about listening to the Holy Spirit, confirming His message, and then taking action with that information. And then I got some news I wasn't expecting, nor was I willing to consider what was being presented to me. I realized - about 24 hours later - that I had failed at what I'd been "teaching" over the past weeks' episodes. I had a pity party for the situation itself, and then for the fact that I wasn't practicing what I had just preached. Prayer. Willingness. Openness. I began to open myself up to the idea, its benefits, and the possible gifts it could bring. I started to listen again. In this episode, I share my thoughts on myself as an authority, but more so about the reality of my - and our - humanness. We fail at times in the things we teach. The important thing is to admit, confess, and learn lessons. Then, power forward with the Holy Spirit. One thing you'll hear in next week's episode is that the Israelites followed God and then forgot Him. They confess, align with God again. Then they forget Him again. It's a cycle. It was cyclical then. It is cyclical now. Fail. Confess. Welcome to Episode 158 of the Warrior Words podcast!   I had no idea this would become a series when I sat down to record the first episode a few weeks ago. Yet, here we are in the third installment. I was thinking about the first two episodes where I talked about listening to the Holy Spirit, and confirming (and being obedient to) the Holy Spirit's Whisper, and it felt incomplete. Then I had a meeting with someone who was a referral from someone else. It was my first "high-profile" meeting with someone in the nonprofit space, someone who had the possibility of helping. I felt out of my league, so I sought advice from someone whose knowledge in this space is far beyond mine. That act of acknowledging what I didn't know and humbly asking for help calmed my nerves. The meeting went fabulously. I met a new faith-filled person, and left with resources I didn't know existed. This is only part of the story. The story is really about taking action. It's about after you've confirmed what the Holy Spirit is asking you to do, you need to move your feet. You can't sit home and just pray about it. Don't get me wrong, you should still "pray without ceasing," but it can't be the only thing. When you are partnering with God on assignment, you need to DO something.  Listen. Confirm. Welcome to Episode 157 of the Warrior Words podcast!   What do Gideon and Noah have in common? Both were tasked with impossible or perhaps seemingly ridiculous tasks. We are told that one balked at the idea, but we're not told how the other one initially responded. Gideon asked to test God multiple times before his obedience. We only know that Noah was obedient. Both risked stares, laughs, taunts, and, of course, failure to listen and do what the Holy Spirit asked them to do. These two Biblical men are inspirational to me, and I think of them often when I reflect on and actually work on the things I've been asked to do. I don't claim to understand all the reasons. I just know that when I look back, I can see the Spirit's involvement in so much. I see things I never would have, or could have, done. I see things I wouldn't even have considered. And yet, here I am. God's not done with me - or you!  I'm back this week, expanding on my two metaphors from last week: germinating seeds and ladder rungs. For good measure, I throw in a third. Being open to the Holy Spirit opens us all up to those stares, laughs, taunts, and failures, but it also opens us up to a ride we never envisioned. Welcome to Episode 156 of the Warrior Words podcast!   For much of my life, I think I just went through the motions in my faith: doing things out of duty, checking the boxes, punching my timecard.  Can anyone relate? I had this mindset that God needed to hit me over the head with a 2x4 or flash a neon sign to get my attention. I'm sad to say, I got that 2x4 a few times. Preaching on the Gospel of John, Chapter 1, discussing the first apostles, my priest talked about a simple line in verse 39. A line many people may not pay attention to: "It was about 4 in the afternoon." Why is that there? In his interpretation, my priest said that it was a significant enough event that they wanted to remember the moment they met the Messiah. Then he asked us to think about when we first encountered Jesus, really met Him. I'd have to say, for me, it was when I began to homeschool my kids and teach them the faith. It's not that I didn't have faith or believe before that. It's that I didn't internalize it. It wasn't personal. So, no wonder I needed that 2x4. In this week's episode, I talk about listening to the Holy Spirit. We can't truly hear the Spirit's whispering if we're not paying attention. Welcome to Episode 154 of the Warrior Words podcast!   It feels good to be back! I recorded this episode in my office because I can walk again. It's not perfect or pain-free walking, but it is walking. The 2.5 weeks of zero weight-bearing were tougher and longer than I thought they would be! Welcome to Episode 148 of the Warrior Words podcast!   I have a very short episode for you this week. As I mentioned in a previous episode, I had an ablation for my lower back and an ankle reconstruction surgery last week. Yes, both procedures occurred less than 48 hours apart. That scheduling was actually a blessing in disguise. I am home and able to do most things. Except I can't walk. At all. No weight at all on the ankle, and the splint is huge. I'll post a photo on my community tab over on YouTube. Let me just say that my toes are freezing because none of my extra-large, super-warm socks are big enough to cover them. I am super grateful for everyone who has prayed, sent messages, helped with rides, and helped with groceries. Everything has been a blessing. Do you ever pray like you're at the Burger King drive-through? Well, as much as we may not like it, God does not answer prayers like Burger King offers to let you have it your way. Through a series of medical challenges, I've discovered (to no one's surprise) that God's orchestrations are better than my plans. And while this particular orchestration is not how I wanted it, or would have planned it myself, I am seeing that, as usual, He is right. So, while this episode was meant to be an update with some practical information, it turned into another reminder - mostly for myself - that His thoughts are above my thoughts, and His ways are higher than my ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). But these are no ordinary bricks. Well, the bricks may be ordinary, but the designs and the builder behind the designs are definitely not. John was born with a chronic illness, but it wasn't diagnosed until a bit later. He knew he struggled with certain challenges, but instead of allowing them to keep him down, he learned to advocate for himself. And he found comfort and hope through plastic bricks. With his determination and increasing skill, small buildings grew bigger. Houses became churches. John found himself developing a stronger prayer life with each brick and with each design.
