We Are Issachar

The Sons of Issachar were a group of people mentioned in the Bible. According to the book of Chronicles, they were a tribe of Israel that had 200 chiefs who understood the times and knew what Israel should do. The tribe was named after Issachar, who was one of the twelve sons of Jacob. The sons of Issachar were known for their wisdom and knowledge, and they played an important role in the history of Israel

    Do you know Satan

Satan derives from the Hebrew 'ha-Satan'. 'Ha' means 'the'and 'Satan' means 'opposer' or 'adversary'.  The name described his eventual function as the opposer ofGod’s creation.  English 'devil', meant 'accuser', and 'slanderer', againdescribing his role.  There is no verse in the Bible that describes Satan'sappearance.     10 names  1. Roaring Lion  Meaning: One who looks for prey;animalistic; predatory     2. The Day Star  Meaning: A lesser light, a lesser being, aninferior source of light     3. The Tempter  Meaning: The person who presents achallenge before someone to disobey God.     4. The Accuser  Meaning: The one who presents someone’sviolations of the law before a judge; the one who presents someone’s sin toGod.     5. The Serpent  Meaning: The snake in the garden, thedragon in Revelation, the Leviathan.     6. Father of Lies  Meaning: The origin of deception, the firstperson to tell a falsehood.     7. For we do not wrestleagainst flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritualforces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor ofGod, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, tostand firm” (Ephesians 6:11-13).                 ******  Before iniquity     Ezekiel 28:14  Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have setthee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and downin the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the daythat thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude ofthy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hastsinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and Iwill destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.     The traditional Hebrew conception of cherubim as guardiansof the Garden of Eden is backed by the belief of beings of superhuman power anddevoid of human feelings, whose duty it was to represent the gods, and asguardians of their sanctuaries to repel intruders; these conceptions in turnare similar to an account found on Tablet 9 of the inscriptions found atNimrud.  As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the faceof a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the faceof an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.  *****************************************  After iniquity              Genesis 3:14-24 KJV  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hastdone this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of thefield; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days ofthy life: and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thyseed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception;in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thyhusband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hasthearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which Icommanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thysake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also andthistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of thefield; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto theground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shaltthou return. And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother ofall living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats ofskins, and clothed them. And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become asone of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and takealso of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: therefore the LORD Godsent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he wastaken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of EdenCherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of thetree of life.        Why did Satan fall?  The Five “I Wills” of Satan     Isaiah 14:13-14 Foryou [Lucifer] have said in your heart:     ‘I will ascend into heaven,   I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;   I will also sit on the mount of the congregation In thesides of the north;  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,   I will be like the Most High.’     Satan rebelled against God because he loved himself morethan he loved God. His sin was that ofpride and idolatry.   Satan now dwells in the earthly realm. He is our adversary and he roams the earthseeking whom he may devour     James 4:7  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and hewill flee from you.

    The End of The World

The End of The World  It’s not going to happen in ourlifetime, not until 1000 years after the second coming of Christ.  From thetime that I was born, the end of the world was coming soon. This sort offear-based control has been used on all of us. So many things that you and Ihave been told are so far from reality and this has caused so many to choose apath away from the truth. Fear should never be used to explain the scenario ofthe end of our world.   As abeliever, it is up to each of us to understand and discern the times. If youare a believer, your focus should be on the scriptures to answer the questionsthat you might have about all things related to the return of Jesus and the endof this world. It is very unsettling to witness a lack of understandingconcerning these things. That is why we are talking about them here. Let’s takea deep dive into reality.     I feel itis important to start here.  Matthew24:36  Butconcerning that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, northe Son, but the Father only.     Matthew24:44  Thereforeyou also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do notexpect.        Now, also weshould never fear the second coming of Jesus, he is the redemption and he diedon the cross to free us from punishment because of our sins.      John 14:1-3  Let not yourhearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my father’s houseare many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare aplace for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again andwill take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.     Ourunderstanding of time, through the eyes of God, is not so good. It is hard towrap your head around the idea of what or more so, who is God? I have spentcountless hours on that question alone. The funny thing is I test the spiritevery day. To truly understand someone, you must dig deep into the mind andcharacter of that person, the same is true with God. So, before we can findtrue answers, we must spend the time asking many questions.     I feel thatit is important that we look at how we look at things a little closer. In1Peter we are told this.  1 Peter 1:13  Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully onthe grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  What dothey say Grace is?  (InChristian belief) the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in thesalvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings.     I feel thatmany people misunderstand grace, and they are banking on this to get them intoheaven. We will look deeper into this in another episode.  With thatsaid, I would like to tell you that we do have a promise of his second comingand that you should joyfully await this spectacular event to unfold before ourvery eyes. In Hebrews, it tells us we eagerly wait for him.  Hebrews9:28  So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.  So whyare so many so fearful of his return? You need to ask yourself this question.  The Bibleeven tells us how he will return.  Acts1:10-11  And whilethey were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in whiterobes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? ThisJesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as yousaw him go into heaven.”     **********1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 *********  For the Lordhimself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of anarchangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christwill rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught uptogether with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we willalways be with the Lord.  It isclear from that scripture that those of you awaiting the rapture before theTribulation might want to reexamine the way you are looking at this time of hisreturn. We also think you should think more about the Parable of the TenVirgins in Matthew to help you understand why you should be ready at all times.  Matthew 251-13   Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likenedunto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet thebridegroom.   And five of them were wise, and five werefoolish.   They that were foolish took their lamps, andtook no oil with them:   But the wise took oil in their vessels withtheir lamps.   While the bridegroom tarried, they allslumbered and slept.   And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.   Then all those virgins arose and trimmed theirlamps.   And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us ofyour oil; for our lamps are gone out.   But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lestthere be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buyfor yourselves.   And while they went to buy, the bridegroomcame; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the doorwas shut.   Afterward came also the other virgins, saying,Lord, Lord, open to us.   But he answered and said, Verily I say untoyou, I know you not.   Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the daynor the hour wherein the son of man cometh.        John5:28-29  Do notmarvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear hisvoice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, andthose who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.     Matthew25:31-34  When the Sonof Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on hisglorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he willseparate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from thegoats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by myFather, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”     Matthew24:42-44  Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thiefwas coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house bebroken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming atan hour you do not expect.     It isclear, the ones that are ready and hear his call will be blessed.  1Corinthians 4:5  Therefore donot pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bringto light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes ofthe heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.     Let’slook at his coming from Revelations.  Revelation20:11-15  Then I saw agreat white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth andsky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great andsmall, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book wasopened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was writtenin the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead whowere in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they werejudged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hadeswere thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was throwninto the lake of fire.     So, Let’snot be rushed or even provoked and find the patience we need so we will not befooled by the wonders to come. Let's read:    James 5:7  Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits forthe precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives theearly and the late rains.     Jude 1:21  Keepyourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christthat leads to eternal life.  1 John2:28  And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidenceand not shrink from him in shame at his coming.        Revelation3:11  I am comingsoon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.           Revelation20:4-6   And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, andjudgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for theword of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neitherhad received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and theylived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.      But the rest of the dead lived not again untilthe thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.      Blessed and holy is he that hath part in thefirst resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall bepriests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.     Now it isclear from what we just read that the first resurrection is when Jesus returns. And the ones that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word ofGod, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither hadreceived his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; shall reign with hima thousand years.  But therest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.     So, Whatshould we be looking for?     The Two witnesses  From RevelationChapter 11  And therewas given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, andmeasure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.  But thecourt which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it isgiven unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot fortyand two months.  And I willgive power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand twohundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.  These arethe two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of theearth.  And if anyman will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth theirenemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.  These havepower to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and havepower over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with allplagues, as often as they will.  And whenthey shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of thebottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and killthem.  And theirdead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually iscalled Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.  And they ofthe people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodiesthree days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put ingraves.  And theythat dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shallsend gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelton the earth.  And afterthree days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and theystood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.  And theyheard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And theyascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.  And the samehour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and inthe earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant wereaffrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.  The secondwoe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.  And theseventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, Thekingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ;and he shall reign for ever and ever.     Also itis important to note that the restrainer must be removed.  2Thessalonians 2:7  "Forthe secret power of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now holdsit back will continue to do so until he is taken out of the way."     Then wewill see the Anti-Christ.     2Thessalonians 2:8  "Andthen the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow withthe breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming."     We also knowfrom 1st John     1 John4:3  "Andevery spirit that does not confess Jesus is come in the flesh is not of God.This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is inthe world already."     We areseeing a great falling away taking place in our world currently as we havenever witnessed before. All of this must happen first.        2Thessalonians 2:3-4  "Let noone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellioncomes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object ofworship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself tobe God."     2Thessalonians 2:9-10  "Thecoming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He willuse all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve thelie."        Matthew24:24  "Forfalse Christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs andwonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect."     Matthew24:29-30   Immediately after the tribulation of thosedays: 'The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; thestars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.'  And thenshall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all thetribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in theclouds of heaven with power and great glory.     Daniel7:25  "Heshall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of theMost High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall begiven into his hand for a time, times, and half a time."     Revelation13:7  "It wasgiven power to wage war against God's holy people and to conquer them. And itwas given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation."     As Imentioned earlier, you will be around for all of this.     Daniel 11:21  "In hisplace shall arise a contemptible person to whom royal majesty has not beengiven. He shall come in without warning and obtain the kingdom byflatteries."     The mark  Revelation13:16-17  "Italso forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, toreceive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they couldnot buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or thenumber of its name."     Revelation14:9-11  And thethird angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship thebeast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,     The sameshall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out withoutmixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fireand brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of theLamb:     And thesmoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no restday nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth themark of his name.     Revelation16:2  "Thefirst angel went and poured out his vial on the Earth, and ugly, festering soresbroke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped hisimage."     Now for theending, even though we will go through many things that might seem to scare us wewill be done with all the sins in our world. Be ready for the things coming inour world and know that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! We have aplace being made ready for us and the world will not end as we know it untilafter his 1000-year reign with us here teaching us all that we need to know tobe a part of his kingdom. I sure do hope that this clears some of the confusionthat is circulating about the world ending.  Just toadd: Being ready isto follow him. Follow his laws and commandments but most of all keep hisSabbath Holy!

    The 12 Tribes

It allstarted when Abraham established himself in Canaan and paved the way for theformation of the 12 Tribes of Israel. The death of Abraham in Genesis 25:8signaled a change. **Read Verse** The Bible next turns toAbraham's son, Isaac. From Isaac comes Jacob. Jacob produces twelve sons, andthese twelve sons become the 12 tribes of Israel.  It quicklybecomes evident in Scripture that the 12 tribes of Israel were seldom unifiedthroughout much of the history of Israel. Though unified under Saul and thenDavid, factions existed within certain tribes which always fought againstcommon opinion. Intense rivalries existed between tribes, in some cases leadingto civil war, and ultimately responsible for the division into two separatecountries: Israel and Judah.  Thefundamental social and family unit of the ancient world was the Tribes, theancient world was composed of several different elements.    Tribesconsisted of families, typically extended families and individuals not of bloodrelation. Oftentimes tribes would intermarry, and thus larger tribes, over the years, may absorb lesser tribes. Tribes were more defined by geographical regions andterritories than by social position, or blood. Tribes served to unite diversefamilies and members of society from all levels. The tribe was the social, religious, political, and military backbone of society.    The twelvetribes are as follows: Reuben, Simeon, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin, Dan,Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Ephraim, and Manasseh.  The Tribe ofLevi is often not listed among the 12 Tribes of Israel. However, it is a tribe, that is set apart from the other 12 as “God’s Chosen Tribe.” In Hebrew, Levimeans “attached” or “joining,” and is the one tribe that did not join inworshipping the golden calf the Israelites created when Moses was on MountSinai.    Nearing theend of his life, Jacob names each tribe after ten of his sons and two of hisgrandsons: Reuben, Simeon, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun,Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin. From his deathbed, Jacob goes into detailabout each tribe, sharing his blessings and prophecies for their descendants:“All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father saidto them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him”(Genesis 49:1-28)    in theBible, the Hebrew people, after the death of Moses, took possession of thePromised Land of Canaan under the leadership of Joshua. Because the tribes werenamed after the sons or grandsons of Jacob, whose name was changed to Israelafter he wrestled an angel of the Lord, the Hebrew people became known asIsraelites.  Jacob’sfirst wife, Leah, bore him six sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, andZebulun. Each was the father of a tribe, though Levi’s descendants (among whomwere Moses and Aaron), the priests and temple functionaries, were dispersedamong the other tribes and received no tribal land of their own. Two othertribes, Gad and Asher, were named after sons born to Jacob and Zilpha, Leah’smaidservant. Two additional tribes, Dan and Naphtali, were named after sons ofJacob born of Bilhah, the maidservant of Rachel, Jacob’s second wife. Rachelbore Jacob's two sons, Joseph and Benjamin. The tribe of Benjamin providedIsrael with its first king, Saul, and was later assimilated into the tribe ofJudah. While no tribe bore the name of Joseph, two tribes were named afterJoseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. The 10 tribes that settled in northernPalestine and were carried into captivity by the Assyrians became known as theTen Lost Tribes of Israel.    Now Let’s dive deeper into eachtribe.  Reuven  Reuven is the firstborn son of Jacob andLeah and the father of the tribe of Reuven, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.  Reuben wasthe firstborn son of Jacob. The Hebrew name Reuben translates to “Behold ason!” The birth of Reuben was exciting for his mother Leah, who felt that Jacobloved Rachel more than her (Genesis 29:16-17). Leah believed that this childwould make Jacob love her as much as he loved her sister (v. 32). The symbolused for the tribe of Reuben, described by Jacob as “my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength” (Genesis 49:3), is either a rising sun or ablossoming plant.    The tribe ofReuven settled east of the Jordan River and agreed to join the other tribes inthe war against the Philistines.    Simeon    Simeon wasthe second son of Jacob and Leah and father of the tribe of Simeon, one of thetwelve tribes of Israel.    The Hebrewmeaning of his name means "God has heard that I was unloved" (Genesis29:33). He and his brother Levi destroyed the entire village of Shechem inretribution for the rape of their sister Dinah (Genesis 34). Simeon was a partof the plot to sell his brother Joseph into slavery. After the family wasinvited to Egypt during the famine in Canaan, he was appointed as theindividual to stay behind as collateral for Benjamin so that his brothers wouldreturn from Canaan.    The tribe ofSimeon lived in the southernmost part of the Land of Israel.      Judah  Judah wasthe fourth son of Jacob and father of the tribe of Judah, one of the twelvetribes of Israel.    The nameJudah comes from the Hebrew word for gratitude. Leah gave birth to Judah andsaid "Now I will praise God" (Genesis 30:35) It was his idea to sellhis brother Joseph to a Midianite slave trader rather than leave him to die inthe pit (Genesis 37:27). He later became the spokesman for his father Jacob andhis brothers when they traveled to Egypt during the famine in Canaan. Hemarries Shua, a Canaanite woman, and has three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah.Judah is also involved with Tamar and has twin sons with her named Perez andZerach.    The tribe ofJudah inhabited Jerusalem during the reign of its kings David and Solomon andwas later the kingdom of all of the southern tribes of Israel.  The tribe ofJudah was the first territory established in the land of Israel, and itoccupied the southern part of the Holy Land. After settling south of Jerusalem,Judah quickly became one of the most powerful tribes in Israel. Known as theTribe of Kings, Judah has many notable biblical descendants, including KingDavid, King Solomon, and Caleb, as well as Mary and Jesus in the ChristianBible. In Hebrew, Judah (Yehuda) means “praise” and is often symbolized as alion.        Issachar  Issachar wasthe ninth son of Leah and father to one of the twelve tribes of Israel.    Oneinterpretation of his name is "man of reward" (Hebrew: shcar).Issachar was the product of the mandrake incident (Genesis 30:9-18) and wasinvolved in the plot to sell his brother Joseph into slavery. Issachar settledin Egypt after the famine in Canaan and had four sons: Tolah, Puvvah, Yov andShimron. He receives a blessing from his father Jacob that he "bends hisback to the load, working like a slave" (Genesis 49:14-15). The descendantsof Issachar are men of learning according to Jewish tradition.    The tribe ofIssachar settled east of the Jordan River just below the Sea of Galilee.    The Tribe ofIssachar is symbolized by a donkey, after Jacob’s biblical blessing: “Issacharis a rawboned donkey, lying down among the sheep pens. When he sees how good ishis resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his shoulder tothe burden and submit to forced labor” (Genesis 49:15-15). Known for theirwisdom and foresight during the reign of David, tribesmen from Issachar aredescribed in the Bible as “men who understood the times and knew what Israelshould do” (1 Chronicles 12:32).      Zebulun  Zebulun wasthe tenth son of Jacob and sixth of Leah and father of the tribe of Zebulun, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.    When he wasborn Leah said, "God has provided me with a good dowry" (Hebrew:zvad). He was part of the plot to sell Joseph into slavery, and later one ofthe groups was sent to Egypt to buy Grain. He later lived in Egypt with histhree sons Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. Zebulun received the blessing from Jacob:"Zebulun shall settle the seashores; he will be a harbor for ships; hisborder shall reach Sidon (Genesis 49:13). The tribe of Zebulun inhabited thenorthern land of Canaan. Both the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun are mentionedas brave soldiers in the Song of Deborah during the battle against Sisera(Judges 5:18).    The tribe ofZebulun settled to the west of the tribe of Issachar, in the middle of Galilee.      Benjamin  Benjamin wasthe son of Jacob and Rachel and the father of the tribe of Benjamin, one of thetwelve tribes of Israel.    Originallynamed Ben-oni, or "son of my affliction" by his mother as she laydying in labor, his name was later changed to Benjamin, meaning "son of myright hand" (Genesis 48:14). Next to Joseph, he was his favorite son.Benjamin the twelfth son of Jacob and born after Joseph was sold into slavery. After the family was invited to Egypt, Joseph sabotaged Benjamin's sack byputting a silver cup in it and accusing the brothers of stealing. Josephthought Benjamin would remain in Egypt, but Judah offered to take his place, saying that his father would be devastated if Benjamin did not return. Jacoblater blesses Benjamin while on his deathbed, calling Benjamin "a viciouswolf, devouring the prey in the morning, and dividing the spoil at night"(Genesis 49:27).    The tribe ofBenjamin settled in central Israel, a plot that included the cities of Jerichoand Jerusalem.      Dan    Dan was theson of Jacob and Bilhah (Rachel's maidservant) and father of the tribe of Danand one of the twelve tribes of Israel.    Dan was oneof the brothers involved in the plot to sell his brother Joseph into slavery.Later, Dan's father Jacob sent him to Egypt to buy corn during the severefamine in Canaan. Dan receives a blessing from Jacob that "Dan shall judgehis people" (Genesis 49:16). Similarly, one explanation of the name Dan isthat when Rachel was convinced that she was unable to have children, she cried"God has judged me" (Genesis 30:5). The region of Dan in the Book ofJudges is located in the far north of Canaan and referred to early in Genesis(Genesis 14:14).    The tribe ofDan also settled in the southern part of the country and since the tribal territorycovered both northern and southern parts of the country the expression"from Dan to Beer-sheba" indicates the entire span of the Israeliteland.    The fifthson of Jacob, Dan’s name translates to “God is my judge” in Hebrew, as theTribe of Dan was known for its judges and laws. In fact, one of the mostprominent judges of Israel, Samson, descended from the Tribe of Dan. The tribeis often symbolized as the scales of justice or as a snake, the latter theresult of Jacob’s blessing for his fifth son: “Dan shall be a serpent in theway, a viper by the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that his rider fallsbackward” (Genesis 49:17).      Naphtali    Naphtali wasthe son of Jacob and Rachel's maidservant Bilhah and the father of the tribe ofNaphtali, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.    The tribe ofNaphtali settled in northern Canaan and were described as brave soldiers in theSong of Deborah (Judges 5:18). Naphtali's blessing from his father called him"a running deer" (Genesis 49:21). Naphtali was given his name becauseRachel said, "With great wrestling’s have I wrestled my sister"(Genesis 30:8).      Gad    Gad was theseventh son of Jacob and father of the tribe of Gad, one of the twelve tribesof Israel.    His motherwas Zilpah, Jacob's concubine, and Leah's slave. Gad's name comes from theHebrew word troop. Leah named him Gad, saying "A troop is coming." Hewas part of the plot to sell Joseph to Egypt and was later sent to Egypt to buygrain during the famine in Canaan. Gad later moved to Egypt and lived therewith his seven sons. Jacob blessed Gad on his deathbed, saying: "Raiderswill raid Gad, but he will raid at their heel" (Genesis 49:19).    The tribe ofGad settled on the eastern bank of the Jordan River in the Gilead region andagreed to join the other tribes in the war against the Philistines.    Settled intoterritory east of the Jordan River, the Bible describes the Tribe of Gad as“brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear” (1Chronicles 12:8). The name Gad means “warrior” in Hebrew, and this tribe issymbolized by a military tent, for those who protected the borders of Israel, traced back to Jacob’s blessing for his seventh son: “Raiders shall raid Gad,but he shall raid at their heels” (Genesis 49:19).          Asher    Asher wasthe eighth son of Jacob and the father of the tribe of Asher, one of the twelvetribes of Israel.    His motherwas Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Leah named him Asher, saying "Happy amI" (Genesis 30:13). Asher played a role in the plot to sell his brotherJoseph into slavery. Asher and his four sons and daughter later settled inEgypt. Jacob blessed Asher on his deathbed, saying: "From Asher will comethe richest food; he will provide the king's delights" (Genesis 49:20)    The tribe ofAsher settled along the northern Mediterranean coast of Israel, as far north asthe city of Tyre.      Ephraim    Ephraim wasthe brother of Manasseh and the son of Joseph and Asenath, a woman who wasgiven to Joseph as a gift from the Pharaoh.    Jacobadopted the two sons as part of the tribe of Simeon and Reuben. Ephraimreceived the blessing of the firstborn, although Manasseh was the eldestbecause Jacob foresaw that Ephraim's ancestors would be greater than hisbrother's (Genesis 48:13-20).    The tribe ofEphraim settled in central Israel, stretching from just west of the JordanRiver to the central coast of the Mediterranean Sea.          Manasseh    Manasseh wasthe son of Joseph and Asnat (who was given to Joseph as a gift from thePharaoh) and the brother of Ephraim.    Jacob adoptsboth Manasseh and his brother Ephraim as part of the tribe of Simeon andReuben. Although Manasseh was technically the eldest son, he did not receivethe greater blessing. Ephraim does, as Jacob foresaw that his descendants weremore worthy of the blessing than Manasseh's (Genesis 48:13-20).    The tribe ofManasseh settled across the largest territory in Israel, stretching from theJordan River across to the Mediterranean Sea. Half of the tribe settled east ofthe Jordan River but agreed to join the rest of the people in the war againstthe Philistines.    Source: https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org
