Episode 127: What’s in the Pack? | Our Bowhunting Gear for Deer Season

Deer season is almost here, which means it’s time to dump out the hunting packs and figure out what actually deserves a spot. In this episode of the Wild Faith Podcast, Evan and Luke break down what they carry into the deer woods for early and mid-season bowhunting. We talk about the actual job of a hunting pack, the core gear we refuse to hunt without, and how our setups change between quick morning hunts, longer evening sits, and all-day hunts. We also get into early-season clothing and managing sweat on the walk in, food and water, coffee in the tree stand, and what changes when you're trying to self-film a hunt without carrying half a production studio into the woods. Then we put the overlooked gear to the test with our Bowhunting Pack Sleeper Draft, picking the little items that don't always make the essentials list but can completely save a hunt when you need them. From rangefinders and extra releases to wet wipes, battery banks, folding saws, paracord, camera gear, and yes… toilet paper, we're breaking down what stays in the pack, what gets left at home, and what we've learned from years in the deer woods. Deer season is right around the corner. Time to get the pack ready. Episode 126: Early Season Bucks | Food Plots | Stand Placement |

Hunting season is almost here and we are ready to get back in the woods. This week we are talking all things early season whitetails. We get into food plots, what to plant, where to put them and why you do not need a tractor or a giant piece of ground to make a good kill plot. We also break down stand placement, staging areas, bedding, scouting and how close you should actually get to a buck early in the season. One of the biggest things we get into is hunting the hallway. You do not always need to be right on top of a buck's bed. Figure out where he is bedding, where he wants to go and find the best spot somewhere in between. We finish it up with some quick hitters on mornings versus evenings, cold fronts, hunting in the heat and when it is time to start moving away from your early season setups. Bucks and ducks are almost here. Let's go. Episode 124: The Wheat & The Weeds | Why Does God Allow Evil to Exist?

Why does God allow evil to exist? It's one of the oldest and most difficult questions people have ever asked. If God is all-powerful and all-loving, why doesn't He simply remove evil from the world? In this episode of Wild Faith, we walk through Jesus' Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds in Matthew 13 to discover how Scripture answers that question. We explore where evil came from, why God allows it to remain for a time, why the wicked sometimes seem to prosper, and what our response should be as followers of Christ. Along the way, we'll look at Satan's counterfeit truths, God's incredible patience, the danger of spending our lives pointing out everyone else's weeds, and why Jesus calls us to first examine our own hearts. Most importantly, we'll be reminded that God hasn't forgotten His field. The harvest is coming, justice will be made complete, and our calling isn't to fix the world—it's to remain faithful while trusting the Farmer. Whether you're wrestling with suffering, questioning God's timing, or simply wanting a deeper understanding of one of Jesus' most powerful parables, this conversation will encourage you to trust God's plan even when you can't yet see the whole picture. Episode 122: What Would You Do With 40 Acres? Building My Dream Whitetail Farm

What would you do with 40 acres? In this solo episode of the Wild Faith Podcast, I'm breaking down the habitat plan for my family's farm and walking through the improvements designed to turn it into a property that holds more deer, creates better hunting opportunities, and encourages mature bucks to move during daylight hours. From bedding areas and food plots to travel corridors, waterholes, screening, stand locations, and hunter access, I'll share what surprised me most, what projects I'm most excited about, and where I think most hunters get it wrong when managing a small property. Along the way, I'll challenge you with questions every landowner and deer hunter should consider: • Food plots or bedding cover? • What's the most overlooked habitat improvement? • Can 40 acres consistently hold mature bucks? • If you had one weekend and a chainsaw, where would you start? • Where would you spend your first $5,000? This farm means a lot more to me than just hunting. It's a place filled with family memories, lessons learned from my dad, and hopefully a place where my daughters will one day create memories of their own. Improving this property isn't just about growing bigger bucks—it's about stewardship, legacy, and leaving something better than I found it. Whether you own 5 acres, 40 acres, or 400 acres, this episode will get you thinking differently about deer habitat, hunting pressure, and how to maximize the ground you have. After listening, send me a message or leave a comment: What would YOU do with 40 acres? Episode 117: The Return to the Wild | Basswood Lake BWCA Trip 2026

On this episode, we recap our recent trip to Basswood Lake in the BWCA. Jake, Jordan, and Ryan experienced the Boundary Waters for the first time, and together we share stories from an unforgettable few days in the wilderness. We talk about the incredible fishing, the beauty of Basswood Lake, and what it's like to truly get away from it all in one of the most remote places in Minnesota. From chasing walleyes, smallmouth, and northern pike to weathering a storm miles from camp, the trip was full of adventure, lessons learned, and memories we'll be talking about for years. Most importantly, we share where we encountered God throughout the trip in the beauty of creation, the challenges we faced, and the brotherhood built around campfires, canoes, and life in the wilderness. A huge shoutout to LaTourell's Moose Lake Outfitters for helping make the trip a first class experience.  Basswood delivered another trip we'll never forget and a reminder of why it's important to step away from the noise and return to the wild. The Check-In: The Weight of Being "Fine"

How many times have you said "I'm good" when you really weren't? We are back with The Check-In, and this week we're talking about the pressure men feel to always have it together. The truth is, a lot of us are carrying more than we let on—stress, responsibility, anxiety, exhaustion, and the fear that being honest will make us look weak. In this episode, we unpack why men stay silent, the lie that strength means handling everything alone, and what it actually looks like to be honest about where you're at. If you've been carrying a weight nobody knows about, this conversation is for you. You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to pretend you're fine. And you were never meant to carry it alone.   Wild Faith Podcast Links: Store: https://www.wildfaithpodcast.com/category/all-products Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wildfaith/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@wildfaithpodcast YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WildFaithPodcast

Episode 116: Do You Want To Be Healed?

A lot of men say they want change. Peace. Freedom. Discipline. Healing. But what if part of us is still clinging to the very thing keeping us broken? This week we dive deep into the story of the crippled man at the Pool of Bethesda in The Gospel of John 5, where Jesus asks a question that still cuts straight through the heart of men today: "Do you want to be healed?" We unpack why so many men stay stuck in cycles of anger, isolation, addiction, shame, distraction, and spiritual numbness — even when they know they need change. We talk about the fear of surrender, the death of the old self, and why true healing in Christ requires more than just wanting life to get easier. This is a raw conversation about what it means to stop lying beside the pool and finally get up and walk. If you’ve been carrying the weight of the old man for too long, this episode is for you.   Wild Faith Podcast Links: Store: https://www.wildfaithpodcast.com/category/all-products Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wildfaith/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@wildfaithpodcast YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WildFaithPodcast

Episode 114: Late Season Longbeards & Last Chance Gobblers

Late season turkey hunting is where things start getting real. The woods get quieter, birds stop following the script, and every hunt starts feeling more like a chess match. In this episode, we talk through how our mindset and tactics change once the season starts winding down and why this stretch of the season might actually be some of our favorite days to hunt all spring. We dive into midday run and gun setups, pressured gobblers, aggressive calling, roosting changes, decoy strategies, covering ground, and what it takes to finally get a stubborn late season tom to commit. If you’re still holding a tag and trying to make one last bird happen before season closes, this episode should fire you up to get back in the woods. Episode 112: Why Early Season Turkeys Are So Hard to Kill (And How to Beat Them)

Early season can be some of the toughest turkey hunting of the year. The birds are still grouped up, gobblers are locked down with hens, and if you’re hunting before hens start nesting, it can feel like every tom in the woods is answering… but none of them are coming. In this Turkey Talk segment, we’re talking through why those first couple weeks can be such a grind and what to do when birds are still bunched up and henned up. We get into calling strategies, working hens instead of gobblers, setup adjustments, and how to stay patient when it feels like nothing’s working. We get into when to call, when to shut up, how to work the hens instead of the gobbler, and why sometimes the best move is just keeping it simple and letting the woods do the work. Episode 111: Turkey Camp at the Farm. (Chasing Birds in SE Minnesota)

We kicked off turkey season the right way down in SE Minnesota at the farm. Miles walked, boots worn out, and plenty of birds to keep us humble. Toms grouped up, birds playing games, and one of those weekends where you earn every opportunity. Long days, short nights, and even with Evan battling being sick, it was an absolute blast. This year at camp we had the whole crew. Luke, Evan, Erik, and Sam all in camp together. Camp was unreal. Good people, plenty of laughs, and time in the woods doing what we love. Big shoutout to Sam Melton on his first out of state bird and his first Minnesota bird. Could not have drawn it up any better and it made the whole weekend that much better. A lot of close calls, some funny moments, and a whole lot of boot leather burned. Exactly how you want to start a season. Turkey Talk: Bad Weather = Good Hunts (How to Kill Turkeys in bad weather)

Rain wind crappy weather whatever it is if you want to kill a turkey you better learn how to hunt in it. This episode we get into what we’re actually doing when the weather turns. When we’re going and when we’re not. How birds react in wind vs rain and where we’re trying to be when it gets nasty. We talk calling adjustments, moving more when you can get away with it, and why getting tucked into the woods can be the move when it’s blowing hard. Big thing we hit on is being there when it breaks. That window right after the rain stops can be money and a lot of guys miss it just sitting in the truck or waiting it out at home End of the day if you’ve only got one day to hunt and the forecast sucks you still go you just hunt smarter. Episode 107: Why Would a Good God Allow Suffering?

If God is good… why does life hit this hard? In this episode of Wild Faith, we step into one of the hardest questions men wrestle with—but rarely say out loud. Suffering, silence, pressure, and the weight of trying to lead when everything feels uncertain. This isn’t a polished answer or a surface-level conversation. It’s real. It’s raw. And it’s grounded in the truth of the cross. We talk about why God allows suffering, the reality of evil and free will, what it means when God feels silent, and how Easter changes everything—even when life doesn’t make sense. Turkey Talk: Why Turkeys Hang Up & Go Silent (And What To Do About It)

Turkey hunting has a way of making you feel like you did everything right… and still got beat. In this episode, I break down two of the most common situations every hunter runs into — birds hanging up just out of range and gobblers that go completely silent. Most of the time, it’s not random. There’s a reason it’s happening. I walk through what those birds are actually doing, why it happens, and how you can start handling those situations better this spring. If you’ve ever watched a bird stall out at 60 yards or thought the hunt was over when the woods went quiet… this one’s for you. This week on the podcast we sit down with DJ Dean from Weatherby and cover everything from spring turkeys to faith in the outdoors. We kick things off talking about Weatherby’s legacy in the hunting world and dive into their new turkey shotgun lineup, including the Sorix and Element II. This is where the conversation goes deeper, talking about how hunting becomes more than just filling tags and the lessons that stick with you for life. We also spend time on faith and the role the outdoors plays in it. The quiet moments, the perspective it brings, and why so many people feel closest to God when they’re out in the woods. Turkey Talk: DJ Dean – Western Turkey Hunting & Weatherby’s 2026 Turkey Gun Lineup

On this episode of Turkey Talk, Evan and Luke sit down with DJ Dean of Weatherby to talk about chasing turkeys in the West and what makes hunting Merriam’s turkeys different from birds in the Midwest. DJ shares insights from his experience hunting big country out west, including how terrain, elevation, and wide-open landscapes change the way you locate and hunt gobblers. The guys discuss scouting strategies, covering ground, and adapting when birds don’t behave like the Eastern turkeys many hunters are used to chasing. They also dive into gear, breaking down Weatherby’s turkey shotgun lineup and what makes a great turkey gun heading into the spring woods. From pattern performance to optics and loads, DJ explains what he looks for in a setup and why the Weatherby Element II and Sorix have become reliable options for turkey hunters. If you’re planning a western turkey hunt or just want to learn more about chasing Merriam’s in big country, this conversation covers tactics, gear, and real-world experience from the field. Turkey Talk: Top 5 Most Common Turkey Hunting Mistakes

In this episode of Turkey Talk, Evan breaks down five of the most common mistakes turkey hunters make in the woods and shares some lessons learned from years of chasing spring gobblers. Turkey hunting can humble anyone quickly, and a lot of times it’s the small decisions that end up making the biggest difference during a hunt. Evan touches on things like calling strategy throughout the day, the importance of good setups, and how movement in the woods can make or break an encounter with a sharp-eyed bird. He also talks about the role of patience and discipline in the turkey woods and how sometimes the biggest mistake hunters make is trying to force a hunt instead of letting the birds dictate what the day is going to look like. If you’re getting ready for turkey season, this episode is a great reminder to slow down, pay attention to what the woods are telling you, and focus on the fundamentals that can put you in the right position when that gobbler finally commits. 👉 Be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more faith-driven hunting and outdoors content! Turkey Talk: Turkey Hunting 101 | Season 3 Kickoff

We are excited to kick off Season 3 of Turkey Talk and thankful for everyone who has followed along and supported this series. Turkey hunting is rooted deep in who we are. It is part of our DNA and something that keeps pulling us back into the woods every spring. This episode is all about what turkey hunting actually is. It is a close range chess match where you are not ambushing birds, you are convincing a gobbler to come looking for you. It is different than deer hunting and it is different than waterfowl hunting. It is personal and it all happens inside close range where every decision matters. We talk through the basic gear you actually need to get started. A shotgun and a good turkey load, camo that blends in, one reliable call, a good seat or vest, and the patience to stay put when it counts. You do not need a pile of decoys or a dozen calls. You need discipline and time in the woods. Monday Turkey Talk episodes are short and focused on one subject at a time to help you become a better turkey hunter. If you want more in depth conversations, strategy and knowledge from experienced hunters and guests tune into the Wild Faith Podcast on Wednesdays where we dive deeper into turkey hunting throughout the season. 👉 Be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more faith-driven hunting and outdoors content! Episode 99: Faith on the Pin — Surrender, Discipline & Purpose with Chris Hamm

In this episode of the Wild Faith Podcast, we sit down with Chris Hamm, President and CEO of HHA Sports and founder of HHA USA, for a deep conversation about faith, discipline, leadership, and surrender. Chris shares the early roots of HHA Sports a family-founded archery company built on precision, craftsmanship, and integrity. Growing up in the shop formed more than business skills. It built patience, discipline, and a deep understanding that faithfulness in small things matters. We talk about stepping into leadership and carrying a legacy, but the conversation moves deeper into Chris’s personal faith journey. He shares what it looked like to surrender control and fully give his life to Christ, especially in seasons where outward success did not equal inward peace. Sobriety became part of that surrender choosing clarity and daily obedience over self-reliance. What once felt like giving something up became gaining something far greater. It reshaped his leadership and restored depth to his relationships. We also touch on the philosophy behind HHA’s single-pin sights and how preparation, simplicity, and trust in the moment mirror our walk with God. Prepare faithfully. Release the outcome. Chris shares the heart behind HHA USA and how serving veterans and first responders through archery, community, and the outdoors has become faith lived out in action. This episode is about discipline, surrender, restoration, and aiming your life at what truly matters. Episode 98: Sacred Grounds and Spring Gobbles

In this episode, we tackle a hard truth: Christian values are increasingly in the crosshairs of modern culture. From churches being interrupted during worship to growing hostility toward biblical truth, we talk plainly about why interrupting a Christian Mass is not protest—it’s a warning sign. We discuss why believers must stay spiritually alert, grounded in Scripture, and unafraid to stand firm.   From there, we shift gears into the woods—talking spring turkey season outlook, plans, and goals—before wrapping with life updates and upcoming trips. Episode 97: Formed in the Quiet (Why God Meets Men in the Wilderness Before Using Them)

In a world that never stops talking, God often does His deepest work in silence. From Moses in the desert, to David on the hillsides, to Elijah in exhaustion, and even Jesus in the wilderness, Scripture shows a clear pattern: God forms men in isolation before He uses them in public. This episode explores why God removes noise before giving direction, why the wilderness is not punishment but preparation, and why stillness is so uncomfortable for modern men. We unpack how solitude exposes what’s inside us, strips away false identity, and builds humility, obedience, and trust that can’t be learned in crowds. If you’ve ever felt overlooked, stuck, burned out, or unsure of what God is doing in your life, this conversation is for you. The wilderness may not be where you wanted to be—but it may be exactly where God is shaping you for what’s next. 👉 Be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more faith-driven hunting and outdoors content! Episode 95: Skills Worth Passing Down

Who taught you what you know? Most of the skills that shaped us weren’t learned in classrooms or from instruction manuals. They were passed down—through time spent together, by watching, doing, and being present. In this episode, we reflect on the parents, grandparents, and mentors who invested in us without ever calling it a lesson. We talk about faith that was modeled at home, values learned through consistency, and outdoor skills shaped by responsibility, patience, and respect for God’s creation. We dive into how hunting, fishing, and time outdoors taught us humility and trust. Why some lessons only stick when someone teaches us well, then steps back. And what it looks like to pass on faith, skills, and confidence without controlling the outcome. This conversation is about gratitude for what we’ve been given—and the responsibility we now carry to pass it on. Because in the end, our kids won’t just remember what we said. They’ll follow what we lived. Episode 94: Why Do We Hunt?

Why do we hunt—really? In this episode, we sit down for an honest conversation about faith, food, tradition, stewardship, and responsibility. We talk about why hunting isn’t an escape from life, but a way to stay grounded in it. From knowing where our food comes from to passing down values, caring for the land, and finding clarity in the quiet places, this episode breaks down the deeper reasons behind the hunt. Whether you’re a lifelong hunter or just curious about the mindset, this is a real, faith-based discussion about purpose, discipline, and respecting God’s creation.   👉 Be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more faith-driven hunting and outdoors content! Episode 93: The Long Wait - Learning to Trust God’s Timing Through Faith and Patience

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the faith journey — especially for men. In Episode 93, The Long Wait, we reflect on James 5:8 and the story of John the Baptist in prison, a man who fully believed Jesus was the Messiah yet still found himself waiting in darkness. We talk honestly about seasons where God feels quiet, answers don’t come, and faith is tested. To close things out, we spent some time talking about Christmas and what it means to be the light in the dark.
