#260 | Be A Good Friend To Yourself
Send us Fan MailYou can spot the right move for your best friend in seconds, but when it’s your own life, the same problem suddenly turns into a spiral. That disconnect is exactly what we’re tackling here, with one core idea that’s simple to say and surprisingly hard to live: be a good friend to yourself.I share why this has become the biggest piece of advice I’ve leaned on lately, especially after walking through a rough first half of the year and the emotional aftershocks of a long-term relationship ending. When you’re hurt, it’s easy to slip into anxious cycles, replay every detail, and take on responsibility that was never yours to carry. We talk about the moment therapy called that out clearly and the shift that followed: stop expecting yourself to do the work of two people, then punishing yourself when you burn out. From there, we make it practical. I lay out the “zoom out” questions that help me reset in real time: Would I tell my friend this? If my friend said this thought out loud, what would I say back? Those prompts can interrupt negative self talk, reduce social media comparison, and create a more grounded, resilient state of mind. We also dig into the boundary behind it all: don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.If you want a cleaner mindset, stronger self-worth, and a healthier way to move through hard seasons, press play. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a rating and review so we can help more people win.Thank you for tuning in! #243 | The Courage To Be Called "Crazy"
Send us Fan MailWhat if the word “crazy” is just how people describe commitment they don’t yet understand? In this episode, we explore why bold goals—whether building a business, pursuing elite performance, or chasing an unconventional dream—often look irrational before they look successful. From the persistence of Walt Disney to the entrepreneurial leap of Sara Blakely and the fan-first innovation of Jesse Cole, the pattern is clear: meaningful work gets labeled “crazy” before it gets respected. We also break down the difference between followers and real community, why other people sometimes project doubt onto your ambition, and how reframing criticism can fuel discipline and resilience. If you’ve ever been told your goals are unrealistic, this conversation will help you stay focused, build courage, and keep moving when progress gets quiet.Takeaways“Crazy” is often the early label for courage and uncommon commitment.A large audience isn’t the same as a real community that supports your mission. The goals that look irrational early are often the ones that create the biggest impact.Thank you for tuning in! #242 | 'The Boy You Are Today Is The Man You'll Be Tomorrow': Lessons from Mom
Send us Fan MailThis episode is personal. I wanted to honor my Mom by sharing four life principles she gave me—lessons about character, family, discipline, perspective, and love that continue to shape who I am today. “The boy you are today is the man you’ll be tomorrow.” Time moves fast. If the inputs don’t change, the outputs won’t either. The small habits, the private disciplines, the way you show up when no one’s watching—that’s who you’re becoming. Identity compounds just like results do.She also taught me: love and protect your family—they’re the only one you’ve got. Don’t take your people for granted. Keep the door open to those who are different than you—my Mom is an immigrant, and our home was always open. And maybe most importantly, she helped me hear differently. #231 | Demonstrate Genuine Care: Check-Ins May Save Lives
Send us Fan MailThis episode starts with a simple truth: the holidays hit everyone differently. What unfolded during a long training run on the Ravenel Bridge turned a routine “how’s it going?” into something heavier—something that demanded presence, not performance. When the night later connected to a reported suicidal person, it became clear that endurance didn’t matter nearly as much as paying attention. You may not control the outcome, but one real question, asked with care, can change the direction of someone’s story.Takeaways:Stop asking surface questions—ask ones that invite real answers and listen long enough to hear them.Leadership and trust grow when people feel seen, remembered, and safe telling the truth.Keep resources ready and be willing to help someone take the next step, even if it’s uncomfortable.Thank you for tuning in! Send us Fan MailA brutal, beautiful truth sparked Edwin’s transformation: a “short” run that broke him open and led to a promise to never quit on himself again. He breaks down how discipline, faith, and purposeful systems turned that vow into a lifestyle powered by daily wins and pressure-tested habits. We explore the link between adversity and spiritual growth, and how to build a real relationship with "The Big Man Above."Edwin is also joining me as we run across the entire state of South Carolina beginning on 12/4/25.Key Lessons:Choosing to become an endurance athlete despite being extremely out of shapeHow to choose “hard but reasonable” goals and build simple systems that make them stickDaily spiritual practices: Scripture, prayer, obedience, hearing God’s voice in the quietWhy confidence becomes predictable when built through reps, preparation, and purposeThank you for tuning in! #225 | Winning Is: Inner Peace = High Performance
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, Ryan reframes success through the lens of awareness, alignment, and steady effort. Drawing on conversations with high performers and adventurers like Damian Browne—who rowed solo from New York City to Ireland with no prior rowing experience—you’ll hear how the real victory lies in self-realization and inner peace, not outcomes or applause.Damian’s story reveals a sharper, more useful definition of success: one measured by honesty, courage, and connection. #224 | Melding An Ironmind: Rowing Across The Atlantic & The Hidden Value In Pushing Your Body Ft. Damian Browne
Send us Fan MailWhat happens when the ocean tries to break you? Within hours of launching his solo Atlantic row, Damian Browne—former professional rugby player turned world-record-holding adventurer—was seasick, cramping, and drifting backward. Then he caught his thoughts and asked three simple questions: What are you here to do? How do you do it? Then do it. That mental switch became the blueprint that carried him thousands of miles across the Atlantic, completely alone and without a functioning rudder. In this episode, Damian unpacks the Ironmind philosophy—the mindset system that turns fear into focus and suffering into strength. We explore the Four Controllables he teaches at the Ironmind Institute: body position and technique, breath, effort, and self-talk. Through real stories from the open ocean, Damian shows how to re-enter the present moment when chaos hits, and how voluntary adversity builds self-trust, self-respect, and resilience. You’ll also hear about his next mission: a run around Ireland to raise one million euros for charity—with open community miles each morning so others can join the journey. This is more than a story of endurance; it’s a lesson in how to lead yourself when everything else falls apart.Connect with Damian: ironmindinstitute.com @auld_stockThank you for tuning in! #219 | Boring Is Sexy: How The Best Use "Boringness" As Secret Weapons To Win
Send us Fan MailWhat if the real secret to extraordinary success isn’t in grand gestures or viral moments—but in embracing what most people consider boring? In this episode, I break down how the best in the world use routine and repetition to their advantage. Mark Zuckerberg wears the same gray t-shirt every day. Steve Jobs stuck to his black turtleneck. Kobe Bryant spent hours shooting the same free throws. Tiger Woods drilled three-foot putts over and over again. These habits weren’t random—they were intentional ways to save energy for what really mattered and build consistency that compounds into mastery. The truth is simple: consistency beats intensity every time. Yet, we’re wired to chase dopamine hits and quick wins. Social media can fool us at times. As Naval Ravikant says, true wealth (and success) comes from the “boring” path—like steady index funds instead of risky meme stocks. The same principle applies across life: the unsexy, repeatable actions compound into greatness.Cheers to embracing boring!Thank you for tuning in!
