Ep 11: Red Flags In The Workplace
How do I ask for a pay rise? Am I the only one feeling like this? How do I know when it's time to leave my job? In this special episode of Wing It, Aiysha and Yvonne discuss the pit falls of entering the working world as a newbie, whether that be a school leaver or graduate. Knowing when to say no, the difference between not showing "resilience" vs. being taken advantage of and the importance of gut feelings are just some of the hurdles we have had to face when leaving university and starting work as a young adult. Confidence and awareness are of course things that come with time and experience but we hope this episode helps you to identify some of the red flags that you'll definitely want to watch out for when making decisions about careers, managers, and companies. We wanted to summarise the red flags that we've previously encountered in the workplace, and of course, we want to hear if there's any more that you think the Wing It community should be made aware of! Poor management If you cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel/no changes happening anytime soon Go with your gut instinct If you feel you are being treated unfairly - yes unfortunately bullying can still happen in the workplace When others feel the same way as you (you can't ALL be wrong) Physical signs - listen to your body! Ep 9: Palestine, Colonialism & Beyond
Welcome to another episode of Wing It where Yvonne and Aiysha are digging deep this week into not only the Palestine-Israel war, but the impact of Western imperialism on the world. We reflect on the shocking and inhumane treatment of Western powers towards countries based on the biased attitudes that have shaped the world into what it is today. Despite our school history lessons being limited to 19th and 20th century Europe, education and awareness are all key to making the smallest changes in our lives that could bring about the biggest differences. Here are some resources that could help make small steps towards expanding our knowledge and awareness of western atrocities and preventing it from happening again: Websites - https://www.history.com/topics/middle-east/palestine https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/20436092 Instagram accounts - @free.Palestine.1948 - @adnan_barq - @jewishvoiceforpeace - @theimeu - @letstalkpalestine - @muna.kurd15 - @ahmedeldin - @mohammedelkurd Films - Hotel Rwanda by Terry George - Omar by Hany Abu Assad - Paradise Now by Hany Abu Assad - Divine Intervention by Elia Suleiman

Ep 8: The One Where We Navigate Friendship
Relationships are always a big talking point but we rarely talk about the heartbreaks, challenges and beauties of friendships. The friends who are always there for you, the friends who come and go, the friends who are like siblings and the friends who are always up for anything. Today, join Yvonne and Aiysha as we chat to Ellis, one of Yvonne’s longest and closest friends on how the pandemic has affected our friendships, how previous experiences have shaped these relationships and how this has continued to change and develop with age. We hope you enjoy this episode and in celebration of the Friends Reunion, remember that no matter how much of a joke your life is, how broke you are or how much your love life’s DOA, your true friends will be there for you whatever it takes, through a pandemic, through a podcast and through the ups and downs of your life. Enjoy!

Ep 7 Part 2: Identity - Fluid Or Resolute?
Welcome BACK to part 2 of 2, where Tariq joins us again as we dive deeper than ever into the entanglement of culture, religion and identity. As three linguists, we talk about the benefits of learning a language, the fluidity of identity and the challenges a mixed culture can bring. We talk about being a ‘foreigner’ and the ‘other’ in another country and how your identity can completely change depending on where you are, who you’re with and what you bring to the table. Let us know your thoughts on identity and how fluid or resolute you think it is, and how vital it is to your life.

Ep 7 Part 1: What Shapes Our Identities?
We are BACK with another episode that’s been in the works for a while. In previous episodes, we have touched on the contrasting backgrounds and culture clashes we have both faced whilst growing up. But this time, we are going DEEP, discussing our own take on identity and what it means to be...well...us. And to help us navigate through this never ending maze, we are excited to introduce Tariq, a fellow navigator, who gives us an insight into the experiences he has faced that have come to shape his identity today. We hope you enjoy this discussion and the questions we raise whilst trying to come to terms with what it means to be white British, South Asian British and British Muslim.

Ep 6: Post-Lockdown Dreaming - What's on YOUR bucket list?
As we are FINALLY in the stages leading up to a post-COVID world, it was time to celebrate the moment with a brand new episode, spilling our hearts with the ambitions, dreams and goals that have been put on hold for a year! Join us as we talk about our plans for travel, seeing friends and family, sitting indoors and actually blowing out candles on a birthday cake (Remember that? Good times eh?) Of course there is still a long way to go for 'normal' to become the new 'normal' again (if that's even possible), but there's no harm in looking forward to seeing your parents or grandparents again or giving your friends a hug after talking to them them through a screen for months on end. Keep your hand sanitisers and your face masks close by and keeping socially distanced from strangers should be a thing anyway, but we hope this episode gets you motivated, excited and longing for the day you can finally start putting all those standstill plans into motion again. And if you're not quite ready to dive straight into the physical world or are feeling a little bit anxious or overwhelmed, then THAT'S OKAY. You are DEFINITELY not the only one. Take one day at a time and know you can still be your amazing introvert self, curled up on the sofa with a book. It just means that at least you can invite a friend over for tea and cake at some point! So whether it's partying, travelling, seeing family or just clothes shopping, let us know what YOU are looking forward to post-lockdown! Ep 5: Imposter Syndrome and Comfort Zones: How To Break Free
Imposter syndrome is on the tip of everyone’s tongue at the moment when it comes to lockdown, new jobs, applications and new paths in life. It’s something that the majority of people have experienced in their life and can have a significant impact on confidence and progress, holding them back without them even knowing it. In this episode, join us as we delve deep into the importance of speaking openly and honestly about mental health, particularly at the moment with the negativity of the news and social media is having such a suffocating effect on people's mental health. We also go a little deeper with what imposter syndrome actually is, how you can tell if you’re suffering from it and what to do to challenge and overcome it so it stops holding back the badass human you really are. Below are some great links and tools if you want to research a little more about it and as always, reach out with any questions or concerns you may have! https://time.com/5312483/how-to-deal-with-impostor-syndrome/ https://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_cox_what_is_imposter_syndrome_and_how_can_you_combat_it?language=en (The TED app in general has some amazing quick videos and tips and tricks on there for tackling everyday challenges)

Whether that's taxes, pensions, investments, bills, cars or mortgages, as we enter our twenties, we know a lot less than we should. But thankfully, there's more resources and advisors out there now to help guide and direct us. Breaking things down and making them simple is definitely the way forward! This week we are BACK with another episode talking about the big elephant in the room that has been a constant thought over lockdown: WEIGHT GAIN. Also, please don’t hate us as we discuss the woes and tribulations of wearing make up (we don’t know ANYTHING...) and the professional expectations of a woman’s appearance in the workplace. Tasha shares her insights on her journey through management, the do's and don'ts to creating a great team dynamic and encourages budding managers not be afraid to go for a role you don't think you're ready for! We navigate the challenges and stigmas attached to being a young manager, highlighting that age is merely a number because young people are often the one's that bring new ideas to the table. Remember, despite being young, you still have a voice and an opinion so don't be afraid to rock the boat and offer an outsiders perspective! We all agree that confidence and resilience bode well when trying to prove yourself as a credible manager at 22! We spoke for hours when recording this episode, but we managed to put together all the best bits into two bite-sized episodes - part two drops next week so stay tuned for the conclusion and more tips and tricks for current and aspiring managers!

We hear your thoughts and opinions on the topic and share our own in trying to steer away from the conventional way of defining "success" and overcoming the fear of "failing". We learn that most of the time, the only person stopping you from achieving something - is YOURSELF! If you want to contribute to future discussions and polls please follow @make_life_a_playground on Instagram, or to read more on the topic, please check out Aiysha's latest blog post on http://lifesaplayground.co.uk/ - 'Bungee Jumping into Success'
