Answers with Ken Ham - A Right to Die?

This is Ken Ham, on a mission to call the church back to God’s Word and the gospel. Over half of Americans believe euthanasia should be an option for the terminally ill. Canada legalized it a decade ago, and over one hundred thousand people have ended their own lives. What does God’s Word say about this practice? Well, euthanasia is really an attempt to “be as gods,” just like what Adam and Eve wanted. But we’re not God and we have no “right” to try and be gods. The Bible makes it clear that taking an innocent life is murder. Euthanasia under the guise of compassion—it’s really murder. Life is precious and a gift from God. Decisions of life and death belong to our all-knowing God—not humans. Dig Deeper Life—a Gift from God Living Wills—On the Edge of Euthanasia?

The Christian Working Woman - Proverbs for Work Integrity

Presented by Lauren Stibgen As we dive into integrity, I have been thinking about Proverbs and how they relate to work. They are filled with wisdom, and a good roadmap for working with integrity! I thought it would be helpful to define this book of the Bible that is a home for practical wisdom as a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. In fact, if you take time to read through this book of the Bible, you might be surprised at how much people quote and paraphrase from God’s good book of wisdom! First, some facts. The word proverb is defined as “a short pithy saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice.” (Oxford Language Dictionary) While Proverbs is a book of the Bible, there are common secular proverbs like curiosity killed the cat or a watched pot never boils that you may have heard. I am sure you could quip a few more. The biblical proverbs are also short, pithy sayings in general use, and this use in our case is as a guide to living a life pleasing to God. Not to be confused with a commandment or a prophesy, these proverbs are good advice to help keep us on the straight and narrow path and far from sin. We can find proverbs for just about every aspect of life ranging from family and friendship to sex and money!  And, yes, we can find many proverbs which can help guide our work. Although Proverbs is made up of 31 chapters, not all 31 have proverbs. In fact, the first 10 chapters and the last two chapters are poems that help frame our views on wisdom and the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 1:7a gives us a big hint about the sum of all 31 chapters: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…. Basically, if you want to be wise, trust God; this will lead to life. If you are a fool, you won’t trust God, and this will lead to death. Proverbs compares and contrasts actions that lead to a life that thrives in wisdom and a life that leads to death. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Proverbs helps guide us in the path of life, away from sin. As believers in Jesus Christ, we know our works will not earn us this eternal life, but we also know we still will fall short and sin. Proverbs provides us with wise reminders of how we can lead lives that point others towards Jesus and not away from him. With a posture of fear, in the sense of reverence and awe towards God, we can seek wisdom in the book of Proverbs that helps us at work!

    A Word With You - Guaranteed Disclosure - #10331

Every once in a while the monotony of driving the Interstate is broken by some interesting signs. Sometimes I'll see one and my mind will get going, and it will process what I saw and I'll think about it for several minutes. I remember one in particular. There was a big, old truck speeding down the Interstate and it had in bold letters this sign: "Guaranteed Destruction of Confidential Files and Records." Well, that got me going! There was also a phone number. I didn't write it down; I didn't actually have any need for their services. But there was a number to call if you wanted all your confidential things destroyed. I thought about who might want a service such as that. I brainstormed some intriguing reasons and some intriguing people who might want to call that number. Guaranteed destruction! Actually, there's another sign that interests us even more. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Guaranteed Disclosure." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from 1 Corinthians 4, and I'll begin reading at verse 4. Paul says, "My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness, and He will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time, each will receive his praise from God." This phrase that brings to light the hidden things and exposing the motive of men's hearts in the original Greek has the thought of turning something inside out; opening all the closets, showing what no one else has seen before. In other words, God is going to expose every secret. Now, there might be some who think they've destroyed all the evidence. The fellow driving that truck, he had that sign that said, "Will destroy your confidential files and records." Did you know that no matter who destroys them on earth, God still has His copy? He knows every detail of every one of your financial dealings, every financial transaction, and every business transaction. He knows the letters you have written that you want no one else to see. He knows your motives, your websites. He's recorded every idle word, every angry word, and every dirty word. We think we got away with it because no one else knew. If God knows, you're caught, and He does. And so will everyone else one day. That's why the Apostle John says, "Walk in the light as He is in the light." It's so freeing to be able to live saying, "I've got nothing to hide." Live without sinful secrets. You don't have to worry then if the closets come open. There's nothing there to hide. Live lives that are relaxed and confident, because you've got no fear of discovery; you don't have to keep looking over your shoulder. When you're living within the limits, you don't have to keep looking in the rearview mirror to see if the law enforcement is coming over the hill. Again, some of the most liberating words in the world; look in the mirror, "Nothing to hide." Isn't that awesome? God's sign says: "Guaranteed Disclosure of Confidential Files and Records." So, live the kind of life that isn't afraid of everybody knowing, because they will.

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Clenched Fists and Open Hands

Read: Job 12:9-13 Alicia tried to peel back her baby sister’s fingers. “Mom left me to watch you for five minutes, and you’re already trying to take something you shouldn’t.” Bella’s hands were in tight fists, and it was hard for Alicia to get back the little ball that belonged with her dollhouse. “You could choke on that. You don’t want it.” Alicia got her toy back and tried to get her sister settled with something safer. She was relieved when Mom came back and took Bella to get ready for their grandma’s birthday party. At the party, Alicia greeted her grandma then sat down to listen as her aunt thanked everyone for coming. “We have a question for you, Mom,” her aunt said. “As you’re turning seventy, do you have any advice for us?” Alicia’s grandma smiled. “Always live your life with open hands.” “What does that mean?” Alicia’s mom asked, moving to her aunt’s side. “Never hold on to anything in your life, thinking you can control it or that it’s yours,” Grandma said. “Always live with open hands, letting God have control. You don’t know what’s best for you, but God does. We can trust Him with our lives because Jesus gave His own life to save us. I am who I am because I’ve been trying to put my life in God’s hands year after year.” Alicia thought of her sister and her tight fists. The things that Bella tried to hold on to weren’t good or safe. She wanted those things, but she didn’t know they could hurt her. “You look deep in thought.” Mom stepped up to Alicia, Bella in her arms. “Mom…” Alicia stood. Her sister’s hands were in tight fists. With her mom’s help, she opened Bella’s hand and took a small stone away from her. “Where did you even get this?” Mom shook her head. “We should know that when she has her hands like that, she’s trying to keep something she shouldn’t have.” “That’s kind of like what Grandma was saying,” said Alicia. “We sometimes want to hold on to things when God knows they’re not good for us.” Mom nodded. “Grandma gave us good advice—to live with open hands and trust God to fill them with good things He wants for us.” –Emily Acker How about you? Do you live with open hands, trusting God to take care of you and direct your life the way He knows is best? Or do you try to control everything and hold on to the things you want, no matter what? We often want things God knows aren’t good for us. Instead of clenching on to what you want, put your life in God’s hands and trust Him to fill it with the things He knows are good for you. Today’s key verse: You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11 (NIV) Today’s key thought: Live with open hands

Wisdom for the Heart - The Original Robin Hood (1 Samuel 21-22)

Share a commentDavid’s story takes a hard left when fear takes the wheel. He’s hungry, hunted, and making split-second choices that don’t look like the fearless giant-slayer we remember. We walk through 1 Samuel 21 to 22 as David lies at Nob, eats the holy bread, and then reaches for the one symbol that should have been unnecessary: Goliath’s sword. That moment becomes a mirror for the way our own “past wins” can turn into a crutch, while present-day trust quietly drains away. Then things get even more unsettling. David runs to Gath, enemy headquarters and Goliath’s hometown, gets recognized, and survives by pretending to be insane at the gate. It’s messy and humiliating, yet it also highlights God’s providence in the middle of bad decisions. We talk about what this reveals about anxiety, desperation, and the temptation to grab whatever feels safest when God seems silent. We also press on a crucial spiritual principle: yesterday’s faith is not enough for today, because God calls us to daily dependence, daily prayer, and daily obedience. The cave of Adullam shifts the entire tone. Psalm 142 gives us David’s raw words, spoken out loud, as he confesses, complains, and pleads for mercy. From that dark place, God begins rebuilding: reconciliation with family, a surprising community of people in distress and debt, and a renewed posture that defines real faith without pretending to control outcomes: “until I know what God will do for me.” If you’re between a rock and a hard place, this will give you language and direction. The Wisdom Journey - A Training Manual for Mission Trips (Luke 10:1-9)

Share a commentA rescue mission only works when someone is willing to go into the hard place, and the most striking part of the World War II story we open with is the leader’s honesty about the cost. That same honesty shows up in Luke 10, where Jesus appoints seventy-two disciples and sends them ahead of him with a clear-eyed view of what the work will feel like. If you have ever wondered whether your life has a purpose beyond the next obligation, we lean into a simple line that reframes everything: your life is not an accident, it is an assignment. We trace the logic of Jesus’ “training manual” for mission and everyday discipleship: the harvest is plentiful, the laborers are few, and prayer is not an optional add-on. We talk about why Jesus sends people in pairs, why dependence is built into the instructions, and why obedience to Christ does not come packaged with comfort. “Lambs among wolves” is not meant to scare us into hiding, but to remind us who is sending us and who is ultimately in charge of the outcome. We also get practical about integrity on the road: staying focused, resisting the urge to upgrade our comfort, and choosing to serve people rather than use them. And when results show up, we highlight the discipline of deflecting praise back where it belongs by pointing to the kingdom of God. If you care about Christian mission, evangelism, calling, and humility, this is a passage worth sitting with. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review telling us which principle challenged you most.Learn more about twenty-five years of global impact, and reserve tickets to our gala. https://www.wisdomonline.org/mp/25 Learn more at https://www.wisdomonline.org/Support the show

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread - Plague of Lies

“What a cruel act to be untruthful,” German theologian and monk Meister Eckhart once wrote in a poem that contrasts relationships built on trust and honesty with those damaged by lies. He described truthful, loving words as “wonderful spices mixed into the days.” But lies, he emphasized, are like earthquakes in the mind and poison to the soul: “Havoc is created in the mind that can no longer trust someone once loved . . . . a plague is spread by one who cannot tell the truth.” The imagery of a plague spread by falsehoods might seem stark. But to take speech seriously resonates with how our words and their impact are described throughout Scripture. When Paul describes to new believers the difference between life before and after their union with Jesus, words take center stage. “Do not lie to each other,” the apostle emphasizes, “since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self” (Colossians 3:9-10).         There are many reasons to be tempted to lie or distort the truth. Sometimes we might think it’s the best way to protect ourselves or others. But through Christ’s love, through His Spirit at work in our hearts, we learn a different way—one transformed by “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (3:12). And we learn how forgiveness and love can create the kind of trust and peace that brings rest to our souls (v. 15).

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - How Dirty We Are!

Read: Psalm 37:23-24; Jeremiah 18:1-6 “I like coming to visit you, Grandma,” Olivia said as she sprayed more cleaner onto her rag. “It’s nice having you here,” said Grandma. “Miss Cindy was glad for your help with the younger children at youth camp. She wondered if you’d be interested in leading the children’s class at church this week.” She picked up a knick-knack to clean and winked. “You might become a great youth leader someday.” Olivia lowered her head. “I don’t know. I’m not sure God can use me for anything. My stubbornness gets me into trouble a lot.” “Hmm.” Grandma gazed down at the picture frame she was holding as she slowly wiped the glass. “Oh, Grandma, look!” Olivia giggled when she showed Grandma her soiled rag. “This shelf was really dusty.” “My goodness!” Grandma chuckled. “I guess it’s been a while since I last cleaned it. It reminds me how God can make great things out of dirt.” “What do you mean?” asked Olivia. “Well, doesn’t the Bible say we were made from the dust of the earth?” Grandma asked. Olivia nodded. “That means we’re made of dirt,” Grandma said. After the last shelf was cleaned and everything was put back, Grandma tapped her chin with her finger. “You know, Olivia, if God can use dirt to make something as beautiful and miraculous as a human being, just think what He can do with our faults and mistakes.” “Like what?” Olivia plopped onto the couch. “God can use them for good. That means not only forgiving our wrongs, which He does, but using them to help others see how Jesus has transformed us,” Grandma said, nestling into her rocker. “For example, He can use mistakes from our past to help us understand what others are going through and show them His love. Or He can take personality traits that sometimes get us into trouble and help us use them in a positive way instead.” She smiled at Olivia. “Like using someone’s stubborn streak to make them a strong spiritual leader who won’t back down when faced with difficulty.” “I never thought of it like that,” said Olivia. She smiled back at Grandma. “Maybe I’ll help Miss Cindy with the smaller children after all!” –Beth Anne Ingram How about you? Do you think God can’t use you because of your bad habits or past failures? Guess what—He can! He doesn’t let anything go to waste, but finds a way to put it to good use. He forgives your sins and uses the traits and experiences you have to develop qualities in you that help you show His love to others. Trust Him to use every part of you for good. Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread - Wounds That Build and Heal

According to research, Gen Z can detect a false compliment from a mile away. While the intention might be kindness, the members of that generation value something deeper: genuine respect and honesty. Not looking to be flattered, they want to be believed in. When truth is spoken, they feel respected, taken seriously, and are challenged to grow. But this is likely true for most of us. Psalm 141:5 gives voice to this wisdom. David wrote, “Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me.” In his prayer to God, he asked that he would welcome loving wounds from friends as kindness (v. 2; see also Proverbs 27:6). David was intimating that real love doesn’t dodge difficult conversations. It tells the truth, not to shame people, but to help be drawn to God and not “be drawn to what is evil” (Psalm 141:4). This passage reminded David’s listeners that wise, truthful feedback isn’t about tearing others down but building them up. Let’s not fear receiving correction from the right sources, and let’s not shy away from offering it either. We don’t need more sugar-coated words. We need people who are willing to speak the truth in love. Sometimes, the words that sting the most are the ones that build us, heal us, and help us become who God made us to be.

Read: Psalm 134; Colossians 3:17, 23-24 The church building was dark and empty. Mandy’s mom turned on all the lights. Mandy followed her down to the cleaning supply closet in the basement. “I’ll start in the bathrooms,” Mom said. “How about you mop and dust upstairs? And try to finish a little faster this week, okay?” Mandy wandered slowly upstairs with the mop, swinging the bucket and humming. As she dusted music stands on the stage, she looked out at empty seats and imagined them filled with smiling, clapping people who raised their hands in praise. She took her mop handle and, pretending it was a microphone, sang into it. She called to the pretend crowd, “Sing out! Everyone!” She dropped the mop, strummed an imaginary guitar, and jumped off the stage. On her landing, she raised her hands along with the clapping “crowd.” Suddenly she heard real clapping, and she looked up and saw Mom. Mom smiled. “Now I see why it takes you so long to clean.” “I’m sorry, Mom. I just wish I could be up there playing music and singing when real people are here. Mopping all alone doesn’t seem like it matters much to anybody. The singers and guitar players are the ones who really serve God.” “Did you know that God put a psalm in the Bible for people like us?” asked Mom. “They served in the temple at night.” “Really? Did anyone notice what they did?” “I don’t know, and I don’t know if anyone notices what we do, but God notices. He told night workers to lift up their hands and bless the Lord. God told all His servants to worship Him.” “Not just the music leaders?” “When you’re cleaning, you’re serving Him just as much as they are. The Bible tells us it’s not what we do, but how we do it, that matters to Jesus. He served us by leaving heaven and coming to earth to save us from sin, and when we do our work out of thankfulness and love, we’re serving and worshiping Him.” Mom picked up the mop and handed it back to Mandy. “Then I’d better do a good job!” Mandy swished the mop across the floor and made it shine. –Laura Roesler How about you? Do you feel like you’re worshiping when you’re cleaning or doing other chores behind the scenes at home or church? The Bible says to let everything you do be done in love (1 Corinthians 16:14). Whatever you do, day or night, can be done out of love for Jesus and others—including work that no one notices. Even if you serve in a way no one sees, Jesus sees you, and you can do it to thank Him for saving you and to honor Him. Today’s key verse: Oh, praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you who serve at night in the house of the Lord. Psalm 134:1 (NLT) Today’s key thought: Worship God day and night

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread - Living Out God’s Love

Branden’s father was dying of cancer in his fifties. Wanting to help, Branden talked his parents into moving in with him so he could assist them. His dad loved the tropics but could no longer travel, so Branden got creative. He landscaped a pond behind his house, stocked it with fish, and installed a waterfall that tumbled over rocks. He trucked in three loads of beach sand, added banana trees, lights, and tiki torches, and built an awning for shade. His dad spent his last days enjoying a backyard island paradise. Branden’s actions reflect the kind of harmony between parents and children envisioned in Exodus 20. There, God through Moses instructed the children of Israel: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12). That directive grows out of the commands to love and respect our heavenly Father (vv. 3-8) and bridges to the last five commands, which instruct us how to love and respect our fellow human beings. Don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t covet (vv. 12-17). Honoring parents might come easily for some. For others, it’s extremely difficult. There’s too much pain and distrust. Old wounds refuse to heal. We can commit it to God our Father, who understands that pain. He enables us to live in His love.

Answers with Ken Ham - A Future Rest

This is Ken Ham, author, speaker, and blogger on the Bible’s reliability and authority. Work is a good thing even though we work in a sin-cursed and broken world. This should remind us of the future rest coming to those who trust in Christ. A day is coming when there will be no longer a curse. Our service to the Lord will be joyful, just as it was for Adam and Eve before sin. You see, Jesus came to earth to do his work, and he accomplished it. That’s why he cried “it is finished” on the cross. While on earth, he experienced all the trials of living in this cursed world but joyfully served his Father, even unto death. We follow his example as we look forward to our future rest, available through in Christ. Dig Deeper How Can We Have Rest? Is Jesus Coming Soon?
