My family and I are excitedly preparing for baby #3 as we ready our hearts and our homes for his arrival. One of the major things that I am doing this time around is setting up an intentional maternity leave for myself within both of my businesses. Q: Whenever I take deliberate time to be alone and focus on my business, I get overwhelmed with guilt for doing so. How do I know if this is God’s correction or accusation from the enemy?Truly, the best answer to this question that you will receive for your unique situation is only going to be found in communion and prayer with the Living God. He knows the nuances of your human heart and He knows the specifics of what’s going on with your family. However, I do have some level of wisdom on this from my own wrestling match with the Lord and hope that the following points can serve as an assessment for your own heart. When I look at the culture of the world, and even Christianity, today, I often find that people tend to fall on one side of the spectrum or another when it comes to a woman’s life calling and design.One camp says something like, “women should only stay at home, should get all of their fulfillment out of motherhood, and should only focus on raising their children. They should not work or do anything to create income for their families, but should learn to fully rely on and depend on their husbands.”The other says something like, “women are equal to men and therefore should be celebrated in whatever choices they make with their lives. We live in a day and age where women aren’t confined to the home and that is a good thing! We are worth so much more than just children’s ministry and making babies.”But what if there was actually a third, middle path that was only found in the heart of God?
