The Inheritance Nobody Wants
It's been over a year since my mother passed, and we are still dealing with the aftermath — attics and garages full of junk, no will, no passwords, no plan. My parents didn't put their affairs in order, and that decision has cost my family a year of stress, conflict, and heavy obligation neither…

I Turned My Truck Into a Wildland Fire Engine
A QTAC 125HP fire skid unit showed up at the homestead, and by the end of the day it was mounted in the back of my truck, pulling water straight out of the irrigation ditch. In this video I install the nozzle, load the unit with the skid steer, fuel it up, run the Honda GX200 engine through a...

I Lost 55 Pounds. Now They Say I'm Anorexic
18 months ago I was 220+ lbs, high body fat, ashamed to take my shirt off in public. Today I'm sitting at 165 lbs, and the reaction online has shifted from indifference to accusations — "you have an eating disorder," "you're not healthy," "you're anorexic." In this video I talk about what…

Split Firewood With the King of Splitting Axes
Somewhere deep in the PNW mountains — location undisclosed — the War Band met up to cut firewood from windfall timber on public land. This trip had everything: burnt second-growth Doug fir with beautiful straight grain, a good haul with the crew, and me finally getting the hang of the flick/flip...

I Bought the New Version. I Hated It
I recently picked up a pair of top-of-the-line Pro Mark steel chainsaw chaps — and I don't like them. Too long, too thick, too many buckles, and the redesigned thigh pocket is a mess. So instead of keeping the new pair, I broke out the sewing kit and repaired my old, worn-out ones to get another...

I Solved My Tractor's Biggest Problem
If you own a farm tractor, you know the problem: there's no good way to carry a chainsaw. Toss it in the front bucket and it gets beat up, plus you lose use of your bucket. In this video I install a full quick-attach chainsaw mount system from ITC — saw sleeve, tool basket, and all — onto my...

This is a Warning To Men
I hated working with my father. He was impatient, quick to anger, and impossible to please — and I promised myself I'd never put my own kids through that. Then one day, building a bridge with my son Jack, I realized I'd become exactly what I swore I never would. This is a personal one. I talk…

I Fixed My Dying Homestead With a 100-Year-Out Trick
Parts of my pasture were dying — dry, dusty, covered in dandelions — while other spots were thriving with clover. The problem wasn't a lack of water, it was where the water was actually going. In this video I break out an old single-bottom plow, borrowed from my neighbor, and use it to cut...

It's Worse Than We Thought
Day 3 helping Greg and his family clean up after the Grasshopper Fire — and this time we found something we weren't expecting. The wildfire got hot enough to compromise the concrete foundation itself, a process called spalling, meaning even the slab has to be torn out and repoured before they can...

You Won't Believe What This Fire Left Behind
When Greg's family lost everything in the Grasshopper Fire, the fire made a 4-mile run to their home in under 40 minutes. Two houses, two travel trailers, a fifth wheel, a barn, and a shop — gone before anyone had time to think. I found out about it through a TikTok his niece posted, reached out,...

Their Off-Grid System Completely Failed. No Power. No Water
Off-grid living has a way of humbling you fast. When a family in our area lost their entire power system overnight — no electricity, no well pump, no running water — we grabbed the EcoFlow Ultra, five batteries, and headed out to see what we could do. What we found was worse than expected: a…

I Snuck Into a Wildfire Camp
Jack's on one of the biggest fires burning in Oregon right now — not far from home. Mrs. W was missing her son, so we loaded up 10 pizzas, snacks, and Sweet Loaf and headed straight for the fire camp. This is what it actually looks like inside an active wildland fire camp — the wash stations, the...

What I Learned Trying to Help After the Fires
We didn't bring equipment to Spokane. We followed the process. We went through an accredited relief organization instead of freelancing. And it still didn't go the way I expected. I was naive — not reckless, just wrong about what would actually be needed and how fast we could be useful. This is…

I've Fought Fires for 20 Years. I've Never Seen This
We drove hours to Spokane to see what we could do to help — arriving right as evacuation zones started lifting. What we found: 921 structures destroyed, 65,000 people evacuated, and devastation through suburban neighborhoods unlike anything I've seen in 20 years around wildland fire. This is the...
