How a Nurse Balanced Alzheimer’s Care, Career, and Her Own Sanity
In this heartfelt episode of Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach sit down with nurse and caregiver Kathy Dent to discuss her journey caring for her mother through a 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Drawing from her experience as both a healthcare professional and a daughter, Kathy shares the realities of balancing caregiving, work, personal responsibilities, and self-care. The conversation explores the emotional toll of long-term caregiving, the challenges families face when loved ones begin losing independence, and the importance of finding purpose and support along the way. Kathy served as the primary caregiver for her mother from diagnosis in 2007 until her passing in 2020, while also maintaining professional and volunteer commitments. She discusses the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s, including changes in memory, smell, taste, and behavior, and how denial can delay recognition of symptoms. Working with veterans suffering from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries became a crucial emotional outlet that helped her maintain balance while caregiving. Kathy emphasizes that caregivers must care for themselves as well, sharing how years of prioritizing others eventually impacted her own health. “If you're not taking care of yourself, you really can't take care of the other person.” — Kathy Dent Caregiving affects millions of families, yet many people enter the role with little preparation. Kathy’s story provides practical insight, emotional honesty, and encouragement for anyone supporting a parent, spouse, veteran, or loved one facing cognitive decline or chronic illness. Her experiences serve as a reminder that advocacy begins with both caring for others and protecting your own well-being. The Hidden Cost of Checking Out: Why So Many People Feel Disconnected
In this thought-provoking episode of Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach welcome integrative psychiatrist and psychologist Omid for a deep dive into dissociation, trauma, identity, and the growing challenge of staying present in a hyper-connected world. Together, they explore how dissociation goes far beyond severe trauma, showing up in everyday life as emotional disconnection, chronic stress, and the tendency to live primarily in our thoughts rather than our bodies. The conversation examines how childhood experiences, family dynamics, technology, social media, and modern culture may contribute to a widespread sense of disconnection. Omid shares insights from more than two decades of clinical practice, explaining why reconnecting with physical sensations and emotions may be one of the most important skills people can develop for healing and personal growth. Dissociation Isn't Just Extreme TraumaOmid explains that dissociation exists on a spectrum, from severe trauma responses to everyday emotional avoidance and zoning out.The Mind-Body DisconnectThe discussion explores how modern life encourages people to live in their heads, making it harder to recognize and process emotions through bodily awareness.Identity vs. HealingThe hosts and guest discuss how diagnoses and labels can sometimes become part of a person's identity, potentially making healing more difficult.Community, Family, and Connection MatterThe conversation highlights the role that relationships, community, and meaningful human connection play in emotional resilience and recovery.“You can't heal what you're hiding.” — Isaiah FliessbachIf you've ever felt disconnected, overwhelmed, emotionally numb, or stuck in patterns you can't explain, this episode offers a fresh perspective on what may be happening beneath the surface. It challenges listeners to consider whether true healing begins not by thinking harder, but by reconnecting with their bodies, emotions, and communities.Follow Be Your Own Advocate with Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach on WSNtv for more conversations that empower you to take charge of your health, wellness, and personal growth.Watch & Listen:YouTube: Youtube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo: Vimeo.com/wsntvFacebook: Facebook.com/WeServeTvWebsite: Weservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvAlso available on RokuEpisode HighlightsMemorable QuoteWhy This Episode MattersFollow Be Your Own Advocate

The Hidden Connection Between Your Spine, Emotions, and Energy
In this episode of Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach explore the powerful connection between posture, spinal health, emotional well-being, confidence, and overall wellness. Isaiah explains that posture is far more than simply standing up straight—it is a reflection of our nervous system, emotional history, and physical habits developed throughout life. The conversation dives into how posture influences everything from circulation and mobility to mental focus and hormone production. Isaiah also demonstrates simple posture and breathing exercises that listeners can practice immediately to improve awareness, reduce tension, and create a greater sense of balance and presence.HighlightsPosture Reflects More Than Physical HealthIsaiah explains that posture is often a reflection of emotional patterns and protective behaviors formed early in life, sometimes as young as ages 2–5. These patterns can influence how we move, think, and respond to the world.Small Adjustments Can Create Big ChangesSimple changes such as lowering the chin, lifting the sternum, aligning the eyes with the horizon, and finding a balanced stance can improve focus, confidence, and physical efficiency in just a few minutes.Breathing and Posture Work TogetherThe hosts discuss how diaphragmatic breathing can help reduce tension, improve nervous system regulation, and increase oxygen intake while supporting healthier posture.Awareness Is the First StepRather than chasing performance, Isaiah emphasizes the importance of slowing down, assessing the body, and developing awareness through simple standing meditation and posture exercises.Memorable Quote“Good posture delivers that electrical impulse to the brain and keeps us in a ready, open, alert, good state.” — Isaiah FliessbachWhy This Episode MattersMany people think of posture as a cosmetic issue, but this conversation highlights how deeply posture affects physical health, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and even long-term wellness. The practical exercises shared in this episode require no equipment, cost nothing, and can be done almost anywhere, making them accessible tools for anyone seeking better health and self-awareness.Call to ActionFollow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv and join the conversation about health, wellness, personal growth, and advocacy.Watch and follow:YouTube: Youtube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo: Vimeo.com/wsntvFacebook: Facebook.com/WeServeTvWebsite: Weservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvAlso available on RokuHave you tried any of the posture or breathing techniques from this episode? He Survived War—But Almost Lost Himself at Home
The Forward Standard — Episode Summary Hosted by Tanner CourtneyIn the very first episode of The Forward Standard, Tanner Courtney sits down with cancer survivor Alyssa Gomez inside a Veterans Affairs hospital, setting the tone for a show rooted in resilience, service, and moving forward no matter the odds. This conversation is raw, human, and deeply American—centered on grit, faith, and the unbreakable spirit forged through adversity.1. A Battle at 14 That Redefined Everything Alyssa shares her leukemia diagnosis at just 14 years old—right as she was stepping into independence, dreams, and identity. What followed was a two-and-a-half-year fight that stripped everything down to survival and rebuilt her from the inside out.2. From Independence to Total Dependence—and Back Again Both Alyssa and Tanner reflect on the humbling experience of losing independence—whether through cancer or a life-altering accident. Their journeys reveal a powerful truth: strength is often forged in the moments we feel weakest.3. Faith Tested, Then Strengthened Alyssa opens up about anger toward God during her illness, only to later rediscover a deeper, more resilient faith. Tanner mirrors this through his own “why me” moment after becoming paralyzed—showing that faith isn’t about perfection, it’s about persistence.4. The Power of Perspective and Choice One of the most impactful themes: choosing your mindset. Whether confined to a hospital bed or rebuilding life after trauma, both guests emphasize that perspective is a daily decision—and often the difference between despair and purpose.5. Turning Pain into Purpose From volunteering with Teen Cancer America to Tanner’s mission-driven work with veterans and communities, both guests embody what it means to transform personal trials into service for others.“I just told myself to take it one day at a time… even slower—one moment at a time.” — Alyssa GomezThis isn’t just a conversation—it’s a call to remember what resilience looks like. From Cancer Patient to Advocate: Alyssa Gomez’s Story of Surviving the Impossible
In this powerful Care Heroes segment of Be Your Own Advocate with Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach, the hosts welcome Alyssa Gomez, whose life changed dramatically at just 14 years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Alyssa shares her deeply personal journey through diagnosis, hospitalization, and two and a half years of chemotherapy, revealing what it was like not only to fight cancer but to experience the world as the care receiver. Through her story, listeners gain insight into the emotional complexity of illness, the sacrifices caregivers make, and the unexpected strength that emerges through faith, humor, and family support. Alyssa’s resilience and advocacy offer hope to anyone facing illness or supporting a loved one through it.Highlights1. The Moment Life Changed ForeverAlyssa recounts how months of unexplained symptoms—exhaustion, bruising, fainting, and illness—led to a life-altering leukemia diagnosis at age 14. What began as a typical freshman year in high school quickly turned into hospital stays, blood transfusions, and an intense treatment journey.2. The Hidden Emotional Side of Being a Care Receiver While caregivers sacrifice tremendously, Alyssa explains that patients often struggle with guilt for the impact their illness has on family members. Her mother paused her career to care for her while her father worked tirelessly to support the household.3. What Truly Helps Someone Who Is Suffering Alyssa shares that the most meaningful support came from simple acts that made life feel normal again—laughter, music, cooking, art, and small moments of connection that helped her step away from the constant focus on illness.4. Turning Survival Into Advocacy After surviving leukemia and years of treatment, Alyssa now believes her experience gave her a purpose: to advocate for others facing illness and to bring awareness to the emotional and spiritual lessons that can emerge from hardship.Quote“You have no other option but to get through this. Why Your Nervous System Loves Bad Habits (And How to Retrain It)
In this powerful conversation on Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach dive into the fascinating relationship between the nervous system, the body, and the habits that shape our lives. They explore why our brains often cling to what is familiar rather than what is healthy, and how stepping into controlled discomfort—physically and emotionally—can unlock healing and growth. Isaiah explains how working with the body first, through breath, movement, and awareness, can reveal stored tension and emotional patterns that traditional mental approaches often miss. Together, they reveal a simple yet transformative idea: when we learn to stay present and compassionate with ourselves in difficult moments, we build resilience, confidence, and the ability to truly advocate for our own well-being.Highlights• Habits Are Built for Protection, Not Growth Isaiah explains that our nervous system prefers what is familiar—even if it limits us—because familiarity feels safe.• Growth Happens at the Edge of Discomfort By working with physical weakness or instability in the body and staying present there, people can unlock emotional and mental breakthroughs.• The Body Stores Emotional Memory When the right tissue or tension point is engaged, emotions often surface immediately, revealing how deeply the body holds past experiences.• Healing Begins with Self-Relationship True healing doesn’t come from the posture, exercise, or technique—it comes from the relationship we bring to ourselves while doing the work.Quote“The nervous system doesn’t want what’s healthy for us—it wants what’s familiar.” — Isaiah FliessbachCall to ActionFollow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv.SocialsYoutube.com/@WeServeNetwork Vimeo.com/wsntv Facebook.com/WeServeTv Weservenetwork.org Spotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtv Also available on Roku.

Rolling Hope on American Roads
Through breakdowns, prayers, brotherhood, and a shared mission, John and Jett show that love of country is found in serving people, lifting up veterans, and shining a light on those quietly doing good in their communities. From restoring a bus that will carry stories of courage across the nation to witnessing a veteran receive a life-changing companion, the journey reminds us that even when the road gets hard, faith, perseverance, and unity can keep us moving forward. This is a hopeful portrait of Americans choosing purpose over cynicism and service over noise.True patriotism is not just pride in a nation, but commitment to the people who make it strong.Hope grows when ordinary people use their gifts to meet real needs in their communities.Setbacks do not stop a meaningful mission; they often become part of the testimony.“We’re trying to highlight those amazing organizations… the more people we have doing good in this world, the more good is going to get done.”

The “Door Theory” to a Better Life: How to Flip Your Focus and Change Your Future
On this powerful episode of Be Your Own Advocate with Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach, we welcome Jay, founder of the Waterbar and a thought coach with over 35 years of experience helping people transform their lives from the inside out.Jay works with everyone from teens to CEOs, guiding them to identify emotional patterns, shift negative loops, and use presence as a tool for clarity and empowerment. Her philosophy is simple but profound: your emotions are not problems — they are signals. As Jay explains, “There’s 86,400 living seconds in a day… a lot of people don’t pay attention to what they’re thinking.”This episode dives deep into how awareness, emotional regulation, and conscious thought patterns shape our physical health, relationships, leadership, and overall life direction.Jay reminds us that emotions are not something to suppress — they are alerts.“Your emotions… are your guidance system.” – JayInstead of ignoring discomfort, she teaches clients to pause, become present, and examine the thought behind the feeling. This creates clarity instead of chaos. Many people replay the same emotional narratives over and over. Jay calls this “the loop.”“When you get used to feeling pain… your reflection brings it back to you.” – JayBy identifying these repetitive thought patterns, clients can consciously pivot — flipping focus from pain to intention. One of Jay’s most powerful frameworks centers on the awareness of time.“There’s 86,400 living seconds in a day.” – JayPresence is power. If you are not aware of what you’re thinking in the now, you unknowingly create your future from old emotional programming.Isaiah beautifully captures the essence of Jay’s work:“The presence is where it’s at.” – IsaiahWhen thoughts, emotions, and physical awareness align, the nervous system regulates, the body softens, and clarity returns. This is what Jay refers to as raising frequency and flipping the focus — a method she details in her book Codes Within. This conversation blends thought strategy, emotional intelligence, nervous system regulation, and personal leadership into one cohesive message:You are not a victim of your thoughts — you are the architect of them. From trauma and PTSD to executive leadership and teenage self-awareness, Jay’s work shows that inner coherence creates outer change. As Isabel reminds us:“You don’t just lose old patterns — you bring in new ones.” – IsabelThat replacement process is what creates lasting transformation. If this episode resonated with you, it’s time to step into awareness and advocate for your own life.Follow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv:YouTube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo.com/wsntvFacebook.com/WeServeTvWeservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvNow streaming on Roku.Remember — no one can think your thoughts for you.Be present. What Happens When Fear Disconnects Us From Ourselves?
In this powerful conversation on Be Your Own Advocate with Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach, Isaiah and Isabel welcome psychotherapist and somatic embodiment therapist Alexandra for a deeply grounded discussion on trauma, self-compassion, and how to advocate for yourself in times of fear and uncertainty.Alexandra shares how her path began in social work, wanting to advocate for others, but evolved into something deeper: helping people learn how to advocate for themselves from a place of embodiment and truth. She explains that healing isn’t about fixing what’s wrong — it’s about restoring relationship with the body, our story, and our interconnectedness. As economic uncertainty and cultural shifts create collective fear, the conversation explores how survival strategies, people-pleasing, and disconnection from the body shape our responses — and how returning to somatic awareness can transform the way we live and relate.Alexandra beautifully reframes the work of healing:“Self-compassion is the internalized village.”She explains that in a culture that prioritizes self-sufficiency and independence, we’ve lost communal support — but we can cultivate that internal village through conscious compassion and embodied awareness.1. Trauma Lives in the BodyAlexandra explains how fear, grief, and survival strategies become embedded physically:“We learn along the way what we need to do in order to survive… but those strategies follow us throughout life.”Through somatic work, we can identify where stories are held in muscles, fascia, posture, and movement — and begin releasing long-held patterns.2. Transformation Requires DiscomfortTrue growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. Isaiah emphasizes that change requires being “on the edge” — but in a loving container.“Change isn’t possible without some disorientation and discomfort.”Whether it’s setting boundaries or breaking people-pleasing habits, transformation begins where comfort ends.3. Fear Disconnects — Love ReconnectsThe discussion turns to macro shifts — economic uncertainty, cultural division, post-Covid fragmentation — and how fear narrows perspective.“When people go into fear, they disconnect from one another.” — AlexandraFear constricts posture, curiosity, and openness. The antidote? Conscious connection, breath, light, and intentional presence.4. Redefining Success and Fullness of LifeInstead of chasing happiness or external markers of success, Alexandra offers a new framework:“Once I shifted out of trying to pursue happiness… I just want to pursue full expression, full enlightenment, the fullness of being alive.”The conversation ends with a profound reminder: advocacy starts within. When we cultivate compassion for ourselves, we create healthier relationships with others and the world. In times of economic shifts and societal uncertainty, survival patterns activate quickly. We move into defense. We disconnect. We isolate. But this episode reminds us that:The body holds the story.Self-compassion restores connection.Healing begins with awareness. We can only truly do this work together. As Isaiah beautifully concludes, advocacy isn’t just outward — it begins inward. If this conversation resonated with you, don’t walk the path alone.Follow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtvYouTube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo.com/wsntvFacebook.com/WeServeTvWeservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvNow streaming on RokuStay connected. Lost in the System or Loved Like Family? Rethinking Senior Living in America
In this powerful episode of Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach welcome Kelly McGrath, administrator and founder of a small residential care home at Meadow Creek Senior Living Center in Marin County, California. Kelly shares her deeply personal journey into elder care, the realities caregivers face, and why small, home-like environments can radically improve quality of life for aging adults.Kelly’s passion for seniors began in childhood through close relationships with her great-grandparents and later evolved through hands-on experience in healthcare, including work at Kaiser. Today, she runs a six-resident care home focused on dignity, consistency, and emotional safety—values she believes are often lost in larger, institutional facilities. Why small care homes matter: Kelly explains how residents can “get lost” in large, hotel-style assisted living facilities, while smaller homes allow for deeply personalized, whole-person care.Caregiving is emotional labor: From dementia care to end-of-life support, Kelly discusses the emotional demands on caregivers—and why empathy, patience, and not taking things personally are essential skills.Families, finances, and fairness: The episode explores the financial stress many families face, how surprise fees in large facilities can be devastating, and why Kelly prioritizes transparency and stability in costs.Emotional repair at the end of life: Aging often brings unresolved family dynamics to the surface. Kelly reflects on how, sometimes, healing happens—and sometimes it doesn’t—but compassionate care still matters.“This is the final phase of someone’s life, and a lot of old emotions come up. Sometimes emotional repair happens at the very end—sometimes it doesn’t—but everyone still deserves care, safety, and dignity.”— Kelly McGrathWith the “silver tsunami” of aging Baby Boomers upon us, caregiving is no longer a niche issue. One in five Americans is now a caregiver. What If Healing Isn’t About Fixing What’s Wrong With You?
In this powerful and deeply reflective conversation, Isaiah and Isabelle welcome Indira Kukreja, a holistic practitioner whose life was transformed after a severe back injury left her unable to walk for months. What followed was not just physical healing, but the discovery of a new way of understanding the body, the nervous system, and what it truly means to live from internal authority rather than external reward.Indira shares how her work—what she calls holodeck technology—allows her to perceive and work with the body’s frequencies, helping people reconnect brain and muscle, release subconscious patterns, and restore alignment on physical, emotional, and energetic levels. Together, the hosts explore dopamine-driven reward systems, intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation, parenting, discipline, healing, and what it means to be at peace with oneself in a culture addicted to external validation.Healing Beyond the Physical: Indira explains how unresolved emotional and subconscious patterns often manifest as physical pain—and how releasing them can create rapid, meaningful change. The Reward System Trap: The conversation dives into dopamine, instant gratification, and how modern society struggles with tolerance, patience, and true fulfillment.Internal Authority as True Power: Moving away from external validation and into self-trust is framed as essential for health, peace, and authentic living.Being “Good” With Yourself: The discussion challenges listeners to redefine success—not as achievement or recognition, but as alignment, peace, and self-honesty.“Internal authority is your own personal power. When you realize that, there’s a peace that becomes unshakable.”— Indira KukrejaFollow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv and join the conversation that empowers you to reclaim your health, voice, and inner authority.Watch & Listen:YouTube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo.com/wsntvFacebook.com/WeServeTvWeservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvNow streaming on RokuKey HighlightsQuote of the EpisodeCall to Action

Who Takes Care of the Caregiver When Everything Falls Apart?
Care Heroes is a new weekly program launching under Be Your Own Advocate, created to spotlight the millions of people quietly carrying the weight of caregiving. From parents and spouses to adult children, teachers, and friends, caregivers often step into life-altering roles with little preparation, limited support, and enormous emotional, physical, and financial strain. In this introduction, Isabel and Isaiah unpack why caregiving is one of the fastest-growing—and most overlooked—realities in the United States. With more than 60 million caregivers today and the “silver tsunami” of aging Baby Boomers ahead, Care Heroes aims to provide connection, resources, validation, and community. The show will highlight real caregiver stories, explore coping strategies, discuss support systems and programs, and address the critical but rarely discussed question: Who are you after caregiving ends?Quote Highlight “They are heroic in the sense that they’re stepping up to fill a gap that society hasn’t prepared us for.” — Isabel DassingerKey Highlights (3)Caregiving Changes Everything: Becoming a caregiver can instantly reshape identity, finances, relationships, and mental health—often without warning or preparation.Caregivers Are Everywhere: Beyond family members, caregivers include teachers, nurses, aides, and community members who provide stability and care every day.Community Is Survival: Isolation is one of the greatest dangers caregivers face; shared stories and support groups can be life-saving.Why Care Heroes MattersCare Heroes exists to remind caregivers they are not invisible, not alone, and not expected to sacrifice their entire lives in silence. By sharing stories, tools, and hope, this segment honors caregivers as the backbone of compassionate communities—and invites others to step up, learn, and support.Call to ActionFollow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv and be part of the Care Heroes community.Watch, Listen, and Connect:YouTube: Youtube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo: Vimeo.com/wsntvFacebook: Facebook.com/WeServeTvWebsite: Weservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvAvailable on Roku

“The Problem Might Be Your Feet: The Health Connection No One Talks About”
In this episode of Be Your Own Advocate, hosts Isabel Dassinger and Isaiah Fliessbach sit down with Dr. Jack Zuckerman for a deep, practical conversation about feet—why they’re foundational to balance, strength, confidence, and healthy aging, and how ignoring them creates problems throughout the body.Dr. Zuckerman breaks down how the feet serve as the body’s sensory and structural base, explaining the role of joints, muscles, mechanoreceptors, fascia, and the nervous system. The conversation moves from modern shoe culture to barefoot training (done safely), and into real-world solutions for pain, imbalance, and even peripheral neuropathy.Your feet are your foundation. With 33 joints and 29 muscles, dysfunction in the feet can create a chain reaction of compensation and pain throughout the body.Mechanoreceptors drive balance and confidence. The sensory feedback from your feet tells your brain where you are in space—when that signal is dulled, stability and movement suffer.Modern footwear changes how we move. Constantly wearing rigid shoes can limit motion, reduce sensory input, and contribute to stiffness and adhesions over time.Neuropathy doesn’t have to mean “no options.” Dr. Zuckerman shares how combining movement, blood-flow restoration, and advanced non-invasive therapies can dramatically improve outcomes.“If your foundation is off, that’s going to create a trickling effect all the way up the chain.”— Dr. Jack ZuckermanThis episode challenges the idea that pain, instability, or numbness are just inevitable parts of aging. Instead, it reframes feet as an entry point to whole-body health—physical, neurological, and even emotional. Whether you’re an athlete, an older adult, or someone living with chronic pain, understanding and caring for your feet can be a powerful act of self-advocacy.Follow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtvYouTube: Youtube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo: Vimeo.com/wsntvFacebook: Facebook.com/WeServeTvWebsite: Weservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvAlso available on Roku

From Fitness to Mental Health: Why Firefighter Wellness Can’t Wait Anymore
In this powerful episode of Be Your Own Advocate, Isaiah and Isabel sit down with Sid Jemmott, a 20+ year firefighter with Marin County Fire Department, to talk candidly about health, wellness, and cultural change in the fire service.Sid shares his journey from teenage fire explorer to Health & Wellness Specialist, Union Health & Safety Chair, and Fire Academy instructor. The conversation dives deep into firefighter cancer risk, cumulative trauma, mental health stigma, and why fitness is often the gateway to broader wellness reform. This episode highlights how one persistent advocate can shift an entire department’s culture—and why that work matters now more than ever.🔥 Episode HighlightsCancer is now the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty deaths, surpassing cardiac events, forcing departments to rethink long-term health strategies.Wellness programs don’t just save lives—they save money, reducing workers’ comp costs, overtime, and long-term disability.Cumulative trauma matters: untreated stress, grief, and repeated exposure to tragedy can manifest as physical injuries years later.Fitness opens the door: physical training often becomes the bridge that allows firefighters to safely explore mental and emotional health support.🎙️ Quote of the Episode“Every traumatic call is another rock in the backpack. If you don’t offload those rocks, eventually it becomes too heavy to carry.” — Sid JemmottWhy This Conversation MattersFirefighters are trained to be strong, capable, and dependable—but that cultural strength can sometimes silence conversations about pain, trauma, and burnout. Sid explains how peer support, leadership buy-in, and union advocacy can transform resistance into resilience. With national momentum from organizations like the International Association of Firefighters, this shift is finally reaching the firehouse floor.🎧 Call to ActionFollow Be Your Own Advocate on WSNtv and stay connected with conversations that empower real change in health, wellness, and advocacy.Find us everywhere:YouTube: Youtube.com/@WeServeNetworkVimeo: Vimeo.com/wsntvFacebook: Facebook.com/WeServeTvWebsite: Weservenetwork.orgSpotify: Tiny.cc/WSNtvStreaming on Roku
