#73: You are Not Your Body | Heart of Jesus – Ep. 3

from Breaking Trail · host Balakhilya and Ruben

The essence of spiritual life is understanding that I am not made of flesh and blood. I am not my body; I am the spirit soul inside. The Bible makes this very clear in verses such as “though our outer body is decaying, yet our inner body is being renewed day by day” and “flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God”.  Unfortunately, many times these verses are not fully appreciated and understood. Today we look closer at these verses in the light of the yoga wisdom. We explore our very essence and the purpose of it all; far beyond the physical body. We discuss the impact of materialism, the mistaken belief that "I am my body," and its consequences in society.  You’ll also hear us address the conflicts arising from sectarian viewpoints (us versus them) and emphasize the true nature of religion as harmonizing and based on love. We touch upon our need for spiritual food and the perishable nature of the material body in contrast to our eternal spiritual essence. Highlights: (2:41) Religion shouldn't create conflict, but harmony. Conflicts arise from sectarian viewpoints and thinking that we are our bodies. (11:34) Be skeptical of both religions and current belief systems. Your happiness shouldn't be tied to materialistic goals. (19:00) Jesus spoke in metaphors to help people understand. We need to speak according to people’s understanding. (24:57) “We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (30:07) A deeper discussion on resurrection and spiritual bodies (37:04) The Vedas explain the existence of two bodies: the subtle (mind) and the physical (gross atoms & molecules) (44:25) The madness of the world is because people are starving inside. When you are starving, you’ll do anything to fill your belly. (49:36) Transcendental sound are the spiritual, divine food we need. This is the daily bread Jesus was referring to.
