9ES336: Hot Rods Plot

from 9to5 (dotcc) Podcast Network (Montreal)

It’s wild to me that after years and years of terrible vampire movies we’ve been treated to two great ones in the last few months. First “Nosferatu” in December and now Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners”. Is this the renaissance that vampire aficionados like the three of us have been waiting for? Let’s hope so.   So yeah, “Sinners” is great and I very much love the idea that ownership of the movie will revert back to Ryan Coogler in 20 years. Honestly that should be normalized. I know studios will hate it but screw that. Coogler wrote, produced and directed “Sinners” – he deserves to eventually own it. More of that please.   Speaking of “Sinners”, we take a look at the movies coming out this summer and boy oh boy is that a pile of remakes and sequels. I guess I should be happy that we got one great brand new movie to kick off blockbuster season because for the next few months it’s remake and sequel after reboot.   Also – minor correction for those of you who read the show notes: Constantine 2 isn’t coming out until 2026. Sorry to get your (and my) hopes up for the one sequel I truly care about.   Meanwhile – over on Garbage Time, we talk about the NHL Playoffs and get into the dark, dark place of the Hockey Canada trial. We lighten things up a little afterwards by talking about the Bad Lieutenant movies and the Jono teaches us all about conquistadors! And how awesome the Aztecs are:  https://mattlakeman.org/2020/06/25/polygamy-human-sacrifices-and-steel-why-the-aztecs-were-awesome/ If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
