לפני עשר שנים בדיוק אבי אפללו ושני שותפיו הקימו את סימפלקס, חברה שממפה ערים בתלת מימד ברזולוציה גבוהה פי חמישים מזו שקיימת בגוגל מאפס. הם החליטו להקים את החברה במודל של בוטסטראפ, כלומר לא לגייס כסף ממשקיעים, אלא להתבסס על ההכנסות של החברה, מתוך רצון להישאר עצמאיים ויעילים. סימפלקס משתמשת במטוסים קלים כדי למפות תוך שעתיים ערים בגודל של תל אביב ומוכרת את הגישה לפלטפורמת המיפוי לערים, אדריכלים, מהנדסים, מתכננים, גופי ביטחון והצלה, ואפילו פוזלים לשוק הגיימינג כדי לעזור למפתחי משחקים לעצב משחקים בסביבת תלת מימד אמיתית. לפני כשנה הם החליטו בפעם הראשונה לקחת כסף ממשקיעים וגייסו 40 מיליון דולר מקרן פורטיסימו כדי להתרחב לשווקים חדשים, ביניהם, ארה״ב, יפן ואיטליה. פרק עם חברה שונה בנוף, ויזם שרוצה להנגיש מידע מורכב כדי לתכנן את הערים שלנו בצורה טובה יותר, ואפילו להקל על מכבי אש או משטרה להציל חיי אדם.
