Carlos Manuel Moutinho Paiva dos Santos, conhecido por Camané, nasceu em Oeiras, em dezembro de 1966. Aos 7 anos de idade foi obrigado a ficar em casa durante um mês por razões de saúde, e só tinha 3 discos: Beatles, Frank Sinatra e Charles Aznavour. Ouvia-os com grande admiração, e deles passou para o fado, para escutar Amália Rodrigues, Alfredo Marceneiro e Carlos do Carmo. Já disse em entrevistas que o fado entrou muito depressa no seu ouvido, “os fadistas eram óptimos intérpretes. Tinham um sentido da palavra único.” Começa por canta para a família, depois em público nas casas de fado, até que, com apenas 11 anos participa pela primeira vez na Grande Noite do Fado. Dois anos depois, na edição de 1979, chega à vitória e é convidado a gravar um LP produzido António Chainho. Casas de fado, palcos de produções nacionais, palcos do país de norte a sul e ilhas, palcos internacionais, Camané é hoje um dos nomes altos do fado e da língua portuguesa, uma espécie de embaixador da nossa música tradicional e também da nossa poesia, uma vez que escolhe cantar poetas portugueses, sempre que pode, dos mais clássicos aos contemporâneos. Tem no currículo inúmeros prémios.
