El 13 noviembre de 2004, John Balance, miembro fundador junto con Peter Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle, Pychic TV) de la banda de culto Coil, murió al caerse por un balcón. La trágica muerte de Balance puso fin a más de veinte años de activismo y genio musical por parte de uno de los proyectos más interesantes de la escena electrónica/industrial que han existido nunca. Es esta la razón que llevó al músico belga Stéphane Grégoire a poner en marcha un homenaje a la desaparecida banda con la edición de este Cd que lleva por título The Dark Age Of Love, para lo cual ha reunido buenos músicos y compositores para reinterpretar a su manera el legado de Coil, llamado This Inmmortal Coil formado por Yaël Naim, Bonnie Prince Billy aka Will Oldham, Yann Tiersen, Matt Elliott, DAAU, Chapelier Fou, Sylvain Chauveau, Christine Ott, Oktopus (Dälek), Nightwood, David Donatien y Nicolas Jorio, que ha estado 4 años trabajando en el proyecto. En palabras de Peter Christopherson : “Es la primera vez que alguien con sensibilidad musical y talento ha versioneado de forma magistral las canciones de Coil. No ha habido un solo momento durante la escucha de todo el álbum en que haya dejado de tener los pelos de punta por la emoción que sentí.
