El Liceo alicantino continúa la tradición de la mayoría de capitales europeas, y el 1 de enero de 2008 acogerá el tradicional concierto de Año Nuevo, que en esta ocasión correrá a cargo de Cristina Simionescu (soprano), Calin Bratescu (tenor) y la Orquesta Filarmónica Estatal de Iassi (Rumanía). El programa está dedicado a la música de la familia Strauss y otros compositores coetáneos, o sea la mejor tradición de valses, marchas y polkas de la Viena imperial. El conjunto orquestal estará dirigido por Alfonso Saura, quien inició sus estudios en los conservatorios de Alicante y Valencia perfeccionándose posteriormente en dirección bajo la guía del maestro Constantin Bugeanu en Bucarest (Rumanía). En la actualidad, Saura es director titular de la Ópera de Cámara de Florencia. Durante los años 1996 a 1998 fue director titular de la Florence Sinfonietta. En el año 1993 fue director principal invitado de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Kiev (Ucrania). A modo de ejemplo del estilo de música vienesa, escuchemos la pieza "Arte y naturaleza" de Johann Schrammeln, interpretada por el Neue Wiener Ensemble en Alicante en 2006.
