Get 'Er Done! Speeding Up & Reaching Goals

from Safety Chats Podcast · host Jason Starke

Here's a familiar scenario -  Your team starts off a project with a lot of energy.  But lately, activity has waned.  Maybe the team (or you) need a nudge (or reset) to get back in action. Listen how the “goal gradient effect” may be utilized to get the team moving again. Whether you are working toward setting or reaching your safety goals, the end may be closer than you realize. The Goal Gradient Effect states that as people get closer to a reward, they speed up their behavior to get to their goal faster. In other words, people are motivated by how much is left to reach their target, not how far they've come. The idea was named by behaviorist Clark Hull in 1932. Resources: FS Farnham Street podcast - a.k.a.
