Katie Gorka has had an extensive career in government and research. She was a research fellow for outreach at The Heritage Foundation and later joined the Trump Transition Team in 2016. From 2017 to 2019, she served as a senior advisor in the Office of Policy at the Department of Homeland Security, focusing on strategies for preventing terrorism, targeted violence, and combating the use of the internet for terrorism and human trafficking. In 2019, she briefly served as the press secretary for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.Before her government positions, Katie served as the President of the Threat Knowledge Group from 2014 to 2017. In this role, she offered expertise and training on irregular warfare and terrorism to various organizations, including the FBI, US Army Special Forces, Marine Corps, and law enforcement. From 2009 to 2014, she held the position of Executive Director at the Westminster Institute, where she conducted research and education on threats posed by extremist ideologies.Katie was born in Boston and grew up in various places on the East Coast, from Franconia, New Hampshire, to Asheville, North Carolina. She earned her B.A. in Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.Sc. in Politics of the World Economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She lived in Budapest, Hungary for twelve years, working on aspects of the post-communist transition, including projects to help rebuild civil society.Mike Gonzalez, the Angeles T. Arredondo E Pluribus Unum Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, writes on critical race theory, identity politics, diversity, multiculturalism, assimilation, nationalism, and foreign policy. He has nearly 20 years of experience as a journalist, with 15 years reporting from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He transitioned from journalism to join the administration of President George W. Bush, where he served as a speechwriter for Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox before moving on to the State Department’s European Bureau.Gonzalez joined Heritage in March 2009 and became a Senior Fellow in June 2014. In 2019, he was appointed as a chaired fellow. He is an experienced writer and public speaker, having contributed to publications such as National Affairs, The American Interest, Foreign Policy, The Claremont Review of Books, City Journal, Quillette, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Time.com, The Hill, Forbes.com, USA Today, The Guardian, The National Interest, The Daily Signal, and National Review. Gonzalez has also made appearances on various networks and stations, including Fox, MSNBC, PBS, the BBC, CNBC, NPR, C-SPAN, The Voice of America, Television Española, Canal Plus, and others in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.In 1981, Gonzalez started covering high school sports for The Boston Herald. Then, in 1987, he began working for Agence France-Presse and reported from various locations around the world for six years. During his first foreign assignment in Panama in 1987, he was arrested, spent a night in jail, and expelled by the dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega.After completing a two-year Master's in Business Administration program at Columbia Business School, he worked at The Wall Street Journal for 11 years. During this time, he wrote a column on the stock market in New York before moving to Hong Kong in 1995 as Deputy Editor of the newspaper’s Asia edition.
