Ketogenic diets: Weighing the evidence on weight loss and health outcomes.|Espresso Knowledge Shot.

from Decoding Healthcare Research · host Agora Project

Ketogenic diets have become increasingly popular due to their ability to produce rapid weight loss. These very low-carbohydrate diets put the body in a state of ketosis, altering physiology and metabolism. Ketogenic diets have been studied for weight loss, diabetes, performance enhancement, and as a treatment for refractory epilepsy, especially in children. However, the effects of ketogenic diets on many other health outcomes have been inconsistent between studies. While some systematic reviews have examined their impact in specific populations, a comprehensive assessment of the evidence from these existing reviews has been lacking. A new umbrella review published by Patikorn and associates aimed to systematically evaluate, summarize, and grade all evidence from prior meta-analyses on the diverse associations of ketogenic diets with various health outcomes. //~Social media~///: These episodes of 'Espresso Knowledge Shots' or quick paper reviews are also available on the 'Decoding Healthcare Research' Podcast.
