Absolvējusi glezniecības nodaļu Latvijas Mākslas akadēmijā, dzīvojusi Oslo, vēlāk studējusi un astoņus gadus dzīvojusi Šveicē, papildinoties dažādās pasaules mākslinieku rezidencēs un izstādot darbus Francijā, ASV, Japānā, Šveicē, Puertoriko un citur. Pašlaik dzīvi dala starp Cīrihi un Rīgu. Savos darbos Elza Sīle izmanto ļoti dažādus medijus, un tos varēja vērot arī līdz šim plašākajā māksinieces personālizstādē Latvijā „Zaķīšu pirtiņa”, kas pērnruden bija skatāma Rīgas Laikmetīgās mākslas telpā.
