He's a 5-time Emmy Award Winner (for audio post mixing) He currently mixes shows on PBS, including the weekly show Motorweek He's also mixed for the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and AOL. He's mixed live shows for Dave Matthews, Allson Krauss, Marty Stuart and a host of others. He's also an expert in surround sound mixing, including Pro-Logic, 5.1 and Dolby E. Over the past several years he's served as a Chief Panel Judge on audio mixing/sound design and music composition for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as well as being a Panel Judge for the ITS Monitor Awards. Ladies and gentleman, the incomparable John Davidson! John gives us a fascinating insider's look into mixing for television and film. He tells us how "what you've done" is more important than just about anything else, including formal schooling. He shares with us how he got his start in the business, which is a blueprint for anyone looking to get started with any type of commercial studio today. He also outlines some of the unique challenges with creating mixes where the quality of the final presentation is in the hands of others who might not be particularly skilled in sound production.
